Chapter 8
Five Years of Peace
Walking down the halls of Cair Paravel lost in thought about what to do for Peter's birthday. He is turning twenty-one in a few days. Hearing my name called had me turning around seeing Susan coming towards me. "Bri what is the matter?" Looking confused she sighed. "I have been calling after you for a while now."
"Oh sorry Su. Just things on my mind that's all. Specifically Peter's birthday and what to get him." She smirked making me raise my eyebrows. "What?"
"I know what you can give Peter for his birthday." She grinned from ear to ear which is very unusual for Susan Pevensie.
"And what would be?" She came up to me whispering it into my ear causing me to blush ten shades of red. "Susan Pevensie!" Staring at her unbelieving that that idea just came out of her.
"What? You have been married for five years and still you know..." Waving my hands cutting her sentence short. "I can help you find the perfect outfit." She snickered.
"Thank you but no. I'd rather have a mutual agreement between my husband and me. Thank you very much." Still blushing at her statement.
"Just trying to help." Shaking my head she burst into a fit of laughter. She was being quite un-Susan like today and was wondering if she traded places with Lucy somehow.
"What's so funny?" Someone asked coming up to us. Turning around seeing Peter writing something in his agenda. He smiled kissing Susan on the cheek then me on the lips. Slipping his arm around my waist looking at his sister then at me. In the last five years his hair has grown out and little wisps of a beard. Making him all the more handsome.
"Nothing just trying to figure out what to get you for your birthday." Susan smirked as she excused herself. Before she left she winked making me blush again. Looking down trying to hide how red my face was. But he noticed with on quick glance.
"Are you feeling alright? You look awfully red." Placing his hand to my face checking my temperature. "No fever, maybe you should go and rest. I will have someone bring you up a cup of tea."
"I'm fine Peter really. Just something Susan said. It's nothing really." Looking at me with an eyebrow raised.
"And what would that have been?" He question. Not wanting to tell him I just shook my head. "Bridget Pevensie don't make me have to tickle it out of you." Threatening as his hands went to my sides and started tickling me.
"AHH STOP PETER!" Yelling through fits of giggles. Finally getting free booking it down the hall towards the garden next to our room with Peter right behind me. Almost out the door when he grabbed me, pulling me back into the building. Laughing and trying to gain our breath pulling me into his chest.
We calmed ourselves down looking at each other. I could see his love for me in his eyes. "You are so beautiful Bri. How did I ever get lucky enough to have you as my wife?"
"How did I get lucky enough that you are my husband?" Smiling he picked me up and headed back inside. "Peter where are we going?" Clinging to his neck.
"To our room." Was all he said. Laying my head on his chest as my face burned.
Peter's twenty-first birthday came and we all went riding through the kingdom. It was a beautiful sunny day perfect weather for a ride. Riding through the Shuttering Woods when a sound caught my attention. Stopping Stargaze for a moment listening for the sound. "What is wrong your majesty?" She asked as I continued looking around and listening.
"I thought I heard something. Must be my imagination." We continued to join the others when the same sound echoed through the woods. "There! That's the sound I heard. It's coming from over there."
Going through the woods until the trees parted revealing a field of wild flowers. Stopping and listening carefully then a baby's cry caught my attention. Getting off Stargaze making my way through the flowers to come upon a baby who looked no older than a few weeks. Picking him up, he instantly stopped crying.
Looking into the baby's blue eyes he smiled and gurgled. Instant love flooded my heart for the baby. Looking around seeing no one was around meaning the baby was left alone. "Don't worry dear one I am here now."
"Bridget where are you?" Peter called for me. Standing up making my way back to Stargaze whom I left back at the edge of the field.
"Over here your majesties." Stargaze called. Peter dismounted and coming towards me then stopped mid step when he saw what I was holding. "Bridget where did the baby come from?"
"I found him in the middle of the field. We can't just leave him." Looking at Peter. He looked down at the baby watching him fall in love with the baby just as I had.
"You're right we can't leave him here. Let's go back to Cair Paravel. He'll have to be examined to make sure he is alright." Peter helped me onto his horse as I held onto the baby. Peter climbed up behind me as we went back to Cair Paravel where the others were waiting for us.
Back at Cair Paravel the Susan and Lucy rushed over asking me if I was alright until they noticed what I was holding. "That's a baby." Lucy exclaimed.
"Where did you find it?" Susan asked.
"In a field of flowers in the Shuttering Woods. We are going to take him to the healer Aburon." I said as Peter and I headed for the healers room.
Knocking on the door the old healer opened it. "How can I help you your majesties?"
"I found this baby in a field. Please look him over and make sure that there is nothing wrong with him." Taking the infant from me looking him over. I held onto Peter's hand praying that he was alright.
"Your majesties?" Aburon called coming up to us. Holding the baby in his arms as he looked around at his new surroundings. "He's in perfect health. What shall your majesties do with the babe?" Peter taking my hand knowing already on what we have decided.
"We'll adopt him and raise him as our own." Peter informed the healer. Aburon frowned by his announcement.
"Your majesties with all due respect but taking care of a babe is hard work. I suggest letting one of the maids with more experience take care of him." Aburon explained.
"You doubt that we don't know not how to take care of a baby? It was my wife who found him in the first place." Peter grew angry placing my hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
"I mean no disrespect your majesties." He bowed after handing me the baby.
Leaving the healer's room and headed for our own chambers with the little bundle of joy. It felt so right that he came into our lives.
"What are you going to name him?" Lucy asked us. As the three of them sat in our chambers waiting for the news on the baby. Looking at him the only name that seemed perfect for him
"Liam Daniel Pevensie." Whispering it to our son. "In honor of my late brother William."
"It's perfect for a prince of Narnia." Peter kissed my head then touched Liam's hand. Liam grabbed Peter's finger placing it in his mouth to suck on. We smiled and of course when a baby does something cute we all went 'aw'.
"I think someone's hungry and in some clothes rather than just the blanket." A maid was summoned to bring up a bottle and a change of clothes for Liam. Sitting down in the rocking chair that we had brought in I started feeding him. Peter changed first for the banquet that would start in a few minutes. Then he took over feeding him as I changed.
Coming out of the wash room seeing Peter taken the role of being a dad very well. Noticing me coming out and smiled. "How can this feel so right? I have been terrified thinking that someday we'd have children and not knowing what to do. Now that Liam came into our lives it feels so natural." Grabbing a towel placing it on my shoulder then taking Liam to burp him. Peter got out of the chair laying his hand on our son's back.
"I know the feeling. I didn't think I would ever be a good mum. Do you think Aslan had meant for us to find him?" I asked as he burped bringing him down just in time to see him yawn. When a knock on the door Peter answered it seeing a maid carrying a crib in. "Where did that come from?"
"I know not your majesty. But it was left at the door." Leaving the crib then left. Peter noticed a note on the side of it. Taking it off reading what was on the card.
"For the new prince of Narnia." Handing the card to me I noticed that it had a picture of a lion's head on the note.
"I have a feeling I know who it is from." Peter said smiling. Going over laying Liam in the crib he fell right to sleep. Peter placing his arms around me. "I love you so much Bridget. This has been the best birthday present I could ever have asked." We decided to show him off to our guests. Taking the crib and Liam to the banquet hall for all the guests see and congratulate us on our unexpected arrival of the new prince of Narnia.
