Author Note: Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is my first EVER FanFiction. I hope you like it, because it would be rubbish for me if you didn't…
Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters, places, lyrics or back-stories. I only own the idea of my story, which is a shame, but there you go…
Fiyero ran up to the room he shared with Glinda. It had never occurred to him before how much it had been, well, Glinda-fied. Toss toss he thought, with a smile, remembering that day with Elphaba back at Shiz. He remembered her sheepish grin, the way her forehead crinkled when she got angry. How passionate she was. She was someone who stood up for what she believed in. Before that day, he'd not been bothered by animal rights, but now…he never used animals as servants. He never used them for anything. But she was gone. Oz knew he'd looked for her. Maybe Glinda was right. Maybe she didn't want to be found. Glinda, his…fiancée? He couldn't get used to that. Fiancée. In a few months, he's be standing with her at the altar. He sat down on a pink, fluffy beanbag and began to untie his shoelaces. He couldn't carry on leading this double life. He had to stop looking for Elphaba. If he found her, what would he do? Turn her in? Let her go? Turning her in would mean she would die, letting her go would mean he'd lose everything. And now finding her would destroy him. He'd used every fibre of his being searching for her and she'd eluded him so far. It was too much to bear. He'd resign. Then someone else would have to take care of it. He wouldn't have her blood on his hands. That decided, he stood up and shook off his boots, pulling on a pair of casual shoes. He made his way back down to the ground floor, where Glinda stood by the door, alone.
"Where were you?" she shrieked. Fiyero shrugged. He'd made it a habit, not answering questions. A bad habit. He offered a smile.
"It's alright." He said, after some thought. Glinda began shrieking again, something about his not setting a good example, being in charge of the search for the Witch and just running off like that. She'd had to lie for him. She kept saying 'the Witch' and it began to get to him. They were meant to be best friends. Then he realised what she was saying. He couldn't believe how stupid he was. She still thought he was in charge of the hunt for Elphaba. No, not the hunt, that made her sound like an animal. The search for Elphaba.
"I have to go" Fiyero interrupted her. He turned on his heels and hurried off past her. Glinda was shocked. He was still thinking. She remembered her last day with Elphaba, how strangely he'd acted at the station. Elphie was a touchy subject for him. Any mention of her and he clammed up. He wouldn't speak about her to Glinda and that made her worry. She knew it was a common fear, that your fiancé would fall in love with your best friend, but she was scared all the same. Anyway, some best friend she was. She hadn't contacted Glinda at all since she'd left and although they'd parted on good terms, there was still something left unsaid. She'd gotten so used to calling her 'the Witch' for the people of Oz that she'd started doing it all the time and that was annoying Fiyero, she could see it. She didn't know what to do about him. She wanted to make him happy, but the more he said he was, the less she believed him. Elphaba would know what to do, but that was exactly the trouble. Elphie knew Fiyero better than she did. Somehow, even though they'd barely spoken, they had some sort of connection. Maybe it would be better if she was here. At least then they could see each other again. Glinda had no real friends in the Emerald City. She'd never had any real friends ever, except Elphie. And now she'd lost her because of some stupid monkeys.
