Over The Hills and Far Away

They were supposed to be invincible.

Yes, all heroes were she supposed. They would come in on their valiant steed laced to the teeth with armor and weapons. Knowing nothing but courage, they would confront their enemies with powers unknown to any and strike them down swiftly and easily. After the monster had been destroyed and the village was saved, they would take the hand of the beautiful flawless princess and live happily ever after.

Was it a problem then, that her 'knight in shining armor' wasn't clothed in armor but a simple red button up vest, shorts, and a straw hat? There was no valiant steed but a simple pair of sandals that seemed attached to his rubbery feet. She had yet to decide if it was really courage or stupidity that drove him forward and through the many obstacles that stood within his path.

However, as she leaned against the dilapidated wall her weary eyes watching faintly as a lone figure stood up between all of them and certain death. Watching as her mythical captain stood war torn and fatigued, the girl came to several conclusions at the same time.

Luffy was a hero within his own right, no wait… on second thought he was far from a hero, he was a pirate. A rubbery pirate that's only true weapons were an array of violent hits, no legendary swords, no magic powers, just brute strength and a will that out matched any.

Wincing a bit, the girl watched as her captain was careened into the outer wall of a local pub. The very structure seemed to groan with the force of his impact as the wall gave way. Unknowingly, the young navigator held her breath as there was a lack of movement from within the debris …

"Gomu Gomu no … Bullet!"

Like a single ray of light that shined through the darkness, Luffy's fist rocketed through the smoke and into the gut of his opponent.

Upon seeing her captain exit the wreckage, the girl let out a strained chuckle as she rested her back against the wall. Letting her feet give way underneath her she slid down to her derriere and groaned a bit.

"Gomu Gomu no … Ba-zoo-ka!!" She didn't get to see any of the damage the move might have done, but she could hear the loud sounds of its impact, and could clearly imagine his face contorted in concentration as his arms shot out in front of him.

She supposed it was alright that he was not a 'Knight in shining armor', and it wasn't like she was the beautiful pure princess that he deserved.

Nami also decided that Luffy was better than invincible. He was a never changing fixture within her life, reliable, loyal, silly, and most important of all he was her captain. An enigma that's strengths knew no bounds as he fought against the true monsters within this world.

'Shishishi!"

Letting her head dip forward a bit, her eyes got covered by the straw hat that she forgot was in her possession. Lifting her hand above her head, the tangerine haired girl let her fingers slowly trace over the contours of the headwear. Then through all the aches in her body, the girl tilted her head back and let out a loud boisterous laugh that she was sure was heard by all around her.

'Everything will be alright …' was the last thing she had decided upon.

Why, you might ask?

Because Luffy was no measly 'knight in shining armor' but something much better, he was going to be the Pirate King.

And that was something that no hero could ever hope to stand up to.
