Soul to Squeeze

She was watching the wind play with it. Sometimes it would merely flip the object over, or it would actually pick it up and carry it. It was right; she supposed to watch that vibrant old straw hat move around like that. It wasn't meant to sit still for too long, for it would shatter the spirit that dwelled within it.
Although the wind was still a poor excuse for the headwear, for it did not match the energy or the strength of its owner. For the wind would stop, letting the hat fall to the ground in a crumpled heap of dirt and straw.
Something that he never did.
Still though the hat always found the strength to pick itself off the dirt and once again drift into the heavens. Free, spirited and strong, it was just a simple hat. Nothing was different about it other than the fact that it was his hat.
Letting the wind pick up her tangerine locks the girl observed the hat as it swooped down by her. It was bent, ripped, dirty, and the ribbon was on its last few threads.
However, its value was beyond measure as its notoriety was known throughout the Grand Line.
"And most important of all…"
"Shishishi!"
A figure crossed the short distance that had been made between the hat and the ground. The rubbery shadow bellowed a gleeful laugh as his arm extended and clasped around the sailing hat.
"Gotcha!"
Touching down once again, the fabled hat was nestled in between his raven locks. The captain didn't seem to notice her presence as he sped off once again laughing at the top of his lungs.
"...it's a crown worthy of a pirate."
