Dust In The Wind

She closed her eyes, cherishing upon the single fixture within her very much fleeting life.

A cherished moment, something rare, unforgettable, and irreplaceable. However, just this once she wished to hold onto it just a little more, to let her mind drift into the nothingness and prolong it.

The faint rustle of the grass shifting around her resting body left slight tickles across her flesh. Within the endless clear sky, a sun hung high enjoying its position over her, bestowing her with a blanket of warmth.

Orange locks flickered across closed lids almost tauntingly asking for them to open.

However, none of this was why she wished for time to stop. But the feel of a long appendage finally tightening around her waist letting them surround her and allowing a secure feeling to spread across her whole being.

Is this how it feels to be whole?

As much as she tried the young woman could not think of that arm never holding her, nor could she bare the thought of not feeling his breath lightly brush passed her shoulder.

No, it was very much true that Nami needed this. This rare moment when her captain's strength and optimism was briefly shared with her allowing them both to enjoy this time…their time.

Moving her slothful fingers the young woman had momentarily forgotten about the straw hat that rested under her palms. Its surface hard, poking against the skin of her hand but at the same time comforting, letting her know that this was reality.

For this brief moment time stopped, the grass stilled, the sun stayed within the blue sky, and orange locks finally ceased its attempts of rousing her.

Yes, that's all it would take to make her happy. However all of hope of that was shattered as she felt the stir of the man behind her,

"N-Nami ..."

The young woman didn't answer instead feigning sleep as his presence drew ever closer, although she could not see it, the straw hat navigator knew that a smile would be placed upon his face. Her assumptions were proved correct as he burrowed into the crook of her neck, "Let's stay like this forever …" he murmured.

Much to her protest a grin slowly spread across her features, "Lets ..." she whispered into the wind, and so with that light response Luffy's hold tightened upon her as his head came down and rested behind hers.

They both know it would not last much longer, for soon their crew would come back from their trek into town. And with that they would once again begin the life that they had chosen.

Sometimes it's the simplest of moments that are the most unforgettable.
