I don't own anything, Haymitch, Plutarch, and Effie, they all belong to Suzanne Collins. It will rain is by Bruno Mars.

I walked up to the repeatedly ringing phone and answered it, "Hello!" On the other side of the line was Plutarch, he sounded a worried.

"Haymitch… We found Twelve's Escort and-"I interrupted without any care, "wait! You're saying you found Effie… Effie Trinket… How is she? Is she fine? She's still alive right? Bring her here, back to thirteen; I want to see her-"

I wanted to thank him next but something in his tone changed. "Haymitch… Effie, she's… She's dead."

I felt my knees buckle with tears streaming down my face. I can't believe it, I thought, she's gone… She's actually gone, there'll be silence and I'll never hear her capitol accent ever…

Right at that moment I remembered my promise to her…

The arena's force field broke into pieces, and just like that I stood up and hurried for the roof. Before I could take a step, a small and fragile hand grabbed me. I turned my heels to face her, Effie was crying, although not enough to uncover her true self. "Haymitch what's happening? What will happen to me? What will happen to you?"

She was scared and terrified. I wrapped my arms around her and replied, "You'll be fine princess. I promise. I will keep you safe." She wrapped her arms around me, tears still streaming down.

"Do you really promise Haymitch?" Effie replied and I simply nodded. "Yes. I promise, princess."

I let go of her to head up to the roof where I'm going to be carried away, when the Peacekeepers came into the room eyes locked on Effie. I tried to grab her but it was no use, they've tackled me to the ground.

I punched them off of me, but it was too late. She was gone.

I then got up and ripped the wall phone out and threw it. "I'm sorry," I said to myself, "I promised you… I should've kept that promise… I SHOULD HAVE!" I was crying and I never cried.

I thought of that day and thought of her, "Next time, princess…" I said to said, "I promise next time, princess."
