I'm not dead! :D I have been on a LONG hiatus from my writing for personal reasons, however, I should be a lot more active on this site from here on out. I hadn't had a chance to read the wonderful reviews you all left for chapter one until just a moment ago, but with the reception this story got, I've found the motivation to continue it. I know it's been months since it was updated, and most likely people just assumed it'd be left a one-shot, but I hope those of you who read this enjoy it as much as chapter one. xD There will be a change in setting, and a time skip for this next chapter.
WARNING: Heavy Light spoilers, for those of you who haven't read it yet.
So, without further adieu... Chapter two of Dream Come True! :3
"Thank you, Sam," she said in almost a whisper. Her arms were around his neck now, he could feel her hot breath on his face. Her voice tickled his ear when she spoke, a faint whisper, clearly heard from this close. He could feel his heart beating faster and faster. He was probably blushing a bright red by now, something he'd always done when embarrassed or shy. She leaned in just a little more, her lips less than an inch from touching his...
Suddenly, Sam's eyes shot open, and a small gasp escaped his lips as reality finally sunk in. He glanced around at his surroundings, noticing the TV still on across the room, and the somewhat fancy couch he now laid on. He'd fallen asleep a few hours earlier, in the middle of the afternoon. He groaned, laying back down on the couch and looking up at the ceiling fan, feeling a bit guilty about his dream.
"It hasn't happened in a while.. Why now..?" Sam muttered, not really meaning for anyone to hear.
"What hasn't happened in a while?" Diana asked, raising an eyebrow as she walked in from the hallway adjacent to the room he was in. She looked as beautiful as ever, despite how much Sam didn't want to notice. In fact, since the FAYZ wall came down, she'd actually become more beautiful than ever. She wasn't as malnourished as before, and looked almost like she did before the FAYZ even started.
"Nothing," Sam lied, knowing that she could see through it. However, to his relief, she didn't push the issue any further, and just sat down next to him, nonchalantly watching TV. It had been almost a year since they were at Lake Tramonto together, and they'd kissed. Neither of them talked about it often, preferring to avoid the issue due to their current living situation.
After the kiss, Sam had gone back to his own home, and only a few days later, Astrid returned. Although what happened with Diana never left his mind, he wasn't able to just ignore Astrid...
Now, months later, the barrier was down, and the three of them were actually living together. Sam would never have thought that this was how it'd end up, with both of them here. He was officially with Astrid again, and he and Diana had never really talked about that night.
Sam had zoned out, and Diana had taken notice, looking over at him curiously. She obviously expected a response to her question from a moment ago, her curiosity piqued.
However, she quickly lost interest, instead looking at what was on the TV. Sam looked too, and suddenly realized why she was so interested. On the screen was some old movie Sam didn't recognize, about a soldier. The movie seemed to be reaching its climax, with the soldier rushing off towards the opposing army and firing off many rounds from an automatic weapon. However, he was quickly shot down, while his allies used the distraction to race off in another direction, making their escape. The soldier whose name Sam didn't know had a dramatic death scene, and had obviously been a key part of the plot, in some way or another.
Already aware of what was happening, Sam glanced towards Diana, and sure enough she looked sad once again. In the time that had passed, she'd regained a bit of her old personality, but she hadn't truly healed. Reaching for the remote, Sam turned off the TV, shifting a bit closer to Diana and opening his arms to her. Without any further prompt, she fell into his arms, her head resting on his shoulder as she slowly began to sob, tears running down her face.
No matter how much he wanted to comfort her, Sam couldn't think of anything to say, so he just held her there in his arms. She clung to him tightly, and they stayed that way for well over ten minutes, neither wanting to let go. Even Sam had to admit that now, after all that had happened, he missed his brother. Just this small reminder of Caine's final moments was enough to cause sadness within Sam, so he couldn't even imagine how Diana felt.
A few more minutes passed, and slowly, the tears stopped. Diana looked up at him, her eyes red and small tear stains on her cheeks. He looked back down at her, her dark eyes looking more sad than he'd ever seen them; while slowly lifting up his right hand and caressing her cheek, wiping away the remnants of her tears.
Sam slowly laid down on the couch, and Diana went with him without much of a fight, laying in his arms. He reached down to a thin blanket next to them, on the floor, and pulled it up over the two of them. They stayed that way for a while, just holding each other, until Diana slowly drifted off to sleep in his arms. Her small snores were the only sound he heard in the room, as he slowly drifted off as well, feeling remorseful over the loss of his brother, despite how much they'd fought... However, another feeling laced his mind as he closed his eyes.
Despite everything that had happened, and his many attempts to convince himself he only loved Astrid, he still cared for the beautiful, fragile girl in his arms more than anyone else in the world.
I know it's a big jump from post-plague to post-light, but I think that this story should work better this way! I'm excited about how this should go from here, and I should be updating this a lot more regularly now. Also, if any of you happen to know of my other 'one-shot' story, Confusion, that should be updated soon as well.
Please leave a review with any suggestions for the story or comments about how it's going; whether your review is good or bad! I accept all kinds of criticism, as long as it's constructive. :3
