*Paul POV *
"I want to kill him." I decided firmly, biting my thumbnail.
"We all want to kill him, Paul," Quil said irritably, rolling his eyes. "But you can't exactly maul someone in the middle of English."
"How the Hell did that prick get into the school anyway?" Jared hissed.
"It's the blending," Sam answered. "Ever since La Push started letting Forks students in, it's been harder and harder for us to discriminate between humans and...whatever the Hell else there is roaming around Washington. At least not at first glance. I could smell him the second everyone was in the parking lot."
"I'm will kill him." I murmured.
"And how are we supposed to do that now that he's Haley's new best friend?"
"Why does it matter? She shouldn't be around him, he's obsessed with her and it's disgusting." I argued, my face growing hot.
Across the room, Jacob shook his head as 15 year old (Technically 5 year old) Renesmee and 14 year old Claire raced through the bookshelves of Dr. Cullen's office, giggling and squealing as they went. Quil immediately stopped fiddling with his hands and watched as Claire weaved around the room. It made my stomach turn, thinking of Imprinting.
"Obsessed with her?" Edward mused, knitting his eyebrows together. "Girls, maybe you should go find Aunt Rosalie, make sure she isn't too lonely." he murmured. I nodded as they left the room.
"Yes, obsessed. It's sick. When we were back in the forest, the first time Haley saw me change, he was staring at her like she was a meal."
"They all stare at people like they're meals..." Jared muttered. Sam shot him a look. "Sorry, sorry."
"No, you don't understand," I protested, shaking my head. "This was like...unhealthy, even for a bad vampire. He looked like he was deciding between killing her and marrying her, it was awful."
"Did he say anything about her?" Edward asked quickly, sitting upright. Shit. This couldn't be good.
"Uhm...yeah. Something about her blood pitch? Her ringing? Dinging?"
"She's a Singer." Edward sighed, putting his face in his hands. Double shit.
"She's his Singer." Carlisle corrected.
"What the Hell is that?" Jacob demanded.
"It's rare. It's extremely rare, even more so than Imprinting," Carlisle murmured, looking concerned. He took a seat on the black leather sofa across from me, his forearms propped up on his knees as he spoke.
"Think of it as your favorite piece of cake," Emmett mused. I shot him an annoyed look. Emmett and I had become friends, but not that good of friends. Not good enough friends to joke about Haley. "It's literally your ideal cake, made just for you, it'd make you the strongest person in the entire world right? But if you ate it, there'd be this hole in your heart left when it's gone. You love this cake. You can neve-"
"What Emmett's trying to say is that Jackson will either maim or fall in love with your girlfriend." Jared shot blandly. I couldn't help it. My body started to tremble. Maim? He'd be lucky if he got within three feet of her. He'd be lucky if he spoke , no, looked at her again. I wanted to kill him. I would kill him, right now. Right the fuck now.
"Not now," Edward demanded calmly, reading my thoughts. "You have to think of the repercussions."
"Repercussions?!" I spat, shooting to my feet. I could feel my cheeks growing red. "HE'S GOING TO KILL HER."
"If Jackson were to drink Haley's blood, he'd be almost twice as strong as a newborn."
"So he's going to fucking kill her." I repeated.
"This isn't a known fact!" Carlisle pleaded. I shook my head.
"In case you haven't fucking figured it out yet, not everyone ends up in a fairytale like Edward and Bella." Jared quipped. Embry nodded in agreement, and a look of pain washed over Edward's expression as his eyes flickered to his wife.
"I can't breathe." I growled, running my shaking hands over my head. I was going to explode at any minute. He was going to kill her. He was going to rip her apart and drink every ounce of life from her body. I couldn't do it. I couldn't stand it. I wouldn't.
"We have to warn Haley." Embry said desperately.
"Warn her?!" Sam cried. "She can't even remember what she had for dinner last week and you want to try and convince her that vampires and werewolves not only exist, but one is out to drink her blood?! Yes Embry, brilliant idea."
"Sam we have to do SOMETHING." I cried, my eyes burning. Do not let the tears fall. Do not let the tears fucking fall.
"She isn't defenseless," Carlisle tried. "She has you, she has most of the Pack in school with her, she's got Anna. Paul, you've got to believe that we will do everything we can to protect her.
"It isn't going to be enough!"
"PAUL CALM DOWN!"
"Look, worst case scenario, she ends up like Bella!" Emmett tried. The entire room fell silent. End up like Bella? End up like Bella?! Bella nearly died in childbirth. Scratch that, Bella had died in childbirth. And not only had she'd lived through her Mother's death, she was about to live through her Father's and she'd never be able to escape this life even if she wanted to because there is no re-do button in life.
I exploded out of my skin right then and there, Sam phasing as well and knocking me sideways into the wall. We crashed against the backyard forest floor, a roar ripping itself through my throat as I fell. On my feet in seconds, I was sprinting, I was flying, I needed to tell her. I needed to tell her now.
