moving along

A/N Okay I apologise for the year long hiatus on this story. Life got in the way but I will try my best to get it going now and maybe even finish.

Let e know what you think and thank you xx

I woke up pretty early the next morning. I've never been one for sleeping but I really struggle when I'm not in my own bed. Although my own bed doesn't seem like my own any more. Every time I try to sleep in I think of Taylor so I end up sleeping on the sofa. Don't worry I understand how pathetic I sound, trust me.

I'm already dressed and ready to go so I head down to the kitchen to grab a coffee. I can already hear idle chit chat down the stairs and I spot Kyla teasing Glen. I can't help but smile when I see them together. Yes, the boy annoys the living crap out me but my sister really loves him and I can tell he loves her.

"What you staring at Davies?" Glen shouts at me getting my attention and a death glare.

"I was actually thinking 'hey maybe that guy with his hands over my baby sister isn't that bad' but I guess I'm wrong" I reply with a smirk and I hear a snigger from a chair at the counter. My eyes land on Spencer and she gives me a kind smile which I return.

"You love Ashley" Glen retorts offering a hug which she walks past heading towards the coffee jug.

"I tolerate Carlin"

"Play nice children" Kyla warned taking Glen's hand and taking him towards the living room.

"Did you sleep okay?" Spencer asks me as she sips her coffee. I notice she is wearing those silly ski pants that have suspenders I make a mental note to mock her for that.

"Meh the bed was nice but I'm not much of a sleeper" I always enjoy my first sip of coffee and this morning was no different. I barely notice the look on Spencer's face.

"What?" She is still looking at me like I grew a second head.

"You really didn't just hear the noise you just made when you sipped your coffee?" She still looks at me like I'm insane and I just stare back at her confused.

"Ashley I swear to god you just made a noise which most people reserve for the bedroom" I notice her blush slightly as she tells me and I smile again then shrug.

"I really love coffee" I smile and she raises her eyebrows.

"I can see" Spencer climbs off her stool and tips the rest of her coffee away.

"You don't like the coffee?" I am almost offended that she would tip this beautiful coffee away.

"It was okay"

"Maybe you just need to find the right coffee" I suggest without realising that the comment could be misconstrued. I try to read Spencer's face but she looked blank for a while and then she smirked.

"Maybe I do" And with that she was heading out. I'll admit she surprised me yet again and I was almost speechless. I was pretty sure that Spencer had just flirted with me just like she had done the night before but I was pretty sure she was straight. I just sat there and watched her leave trying to think of something to say. Shortly after Spencer's swift exit Kyla came bounding back into the room with a smile on her face.

"You ready to go Ash?"

"Erm sure"

"You okay?"

"Yep, so who else is coming with?" I snap myself out of my daze and focus on Kyla.

"Just me and you. The boys are hitting some blacks and Spencer is with Paula skiing" Kyla explained and I nodded along as I placed my coffee cup in the dishwasher.

"Skiing sucks" I laughed getting an eye roll from Kyla. We grabbed our stuff from the garage. Luckily the Carlins catered for guests and had spare boards and boots. I actually have my own board but she is in storage so I had no time to get her which sucks but I'm sure one of these will do me.

We have been boarding for a few hours and Kyla had finally convinced me to stop before we did our last run. I'll admit that I ignored her requests to stop for quite a while, which may seem mean but my head was so clear and I felt so relaxed that I didn't want it to end. I gave in though because Kyla looked like she might die any time soon.

I grab Kyla a soda from the bar and we crash on the snow.

"So what's Spencer's deal?" I ask surprising myself trying to act casual.

"You making small talk or are you genuinely interested?" Kyla raised a suspicious eyebrow at me. I didn't know the answer myself but I had asked the question so I went with it.

"Just trying figure out who I'm hanging with for the next 2 weeks" Once again I try to be casual, not sure how well that worked for me.

"She's cool, pretty chill but tends to lose it whenever Aiden is about. Nobody really knows why she broke up with him, not even Aiden. She's pretty secretive and spends a lot of time on campus at school" Kyla finished a took a sip of soda. I was hoping she would elaborate but she didn't. Looks like she knows as much as I do about the youngest Carlin.

"Hey pretty girls" An obnoxious voice caught our attention and there stood Glen and Aiden with dumb ass smiles on their faces. Glen crashed next to Kyla and gave her kiss while Aiden stared at me like a complete ass.

"Can I help you?" I was losing patience and really wanted to get down the bottom of the mountain so I could finally take advantage of après ski.

"You look cute when you're annoyed" I couldn't actually believe the idiot was hitting on me again.

"Look dumb ass I'm going to break this down for you. First of all I am super gay, the gayest of gay! Secondly you are supposedly here to win back your recently ex girlfriend so hitting on me is really stupid and really goddamn annoying so back the fuck off!" I finished my sentence with a hard poke to his giant chest with my gloved hand. He looked at me with sad eyes and I almost felt sad, almost.

"Help me win her back then" Aiden finally said to me and I think he means it as well.

"Dude I am not helping you get a girl back that clearly can't stand you. Move on and be a man or something" I can't believe this guy, was he really as dumb as he looked? I decided that this would be a good moment to get my ass down the slop. I click myself back on to my board and head down the slope. Kyla knows where I am headed and she knows I can handle myself on my board. The mountain is quiet and I feel more relaxed than ever. I almost don't think about Taylor and about our trip to whistler the other year. Nope I'm not thinking about that at all. I finally slow myself down as I spot the bar that everybody is meeting at for dinner. I take off my board and place it against the rack removing my helmut. I always dread taking off my helmut knowing my hair will be mental so I head straight to the bathrooms to access the hair situation.

Checking my reflexion in the mirror I note that I look pretty good in fact I think I look better than I have for a while. Don't get me wrong I'm no ego maniac but over the last few months I lost a few pounds, drank too much and stopped working out so I was starting look a bit rough around edges. But now with slightly red cheeks and a real smile I was starting to look like me again.

I head to the bar feeling pleased with myself when I spot Spencer at the end of the bar talking to a shorter dark haired girl. I can't help but watch them as they interact and then it hits me! They are flirting, they are most definitely flirting. I know what flirting looks like and that is it. Just as I am about to turn away I see them swap digits and I feel a bit strange, not sure what it is but I turn and head back outside where we are meeting.

Everybody is there, taking off their gear and getting settled. Everybody greets me with a smile and hug which I quite like. I'm not pro at hugging yet but I'm less stiff than yesterday. I spot Spencer heading over to the table and she has a smile on her face that I haven't seen yet and it suits her. It soon falls away when her eyes land on Aiden calling her over to sit by him so I grab her so she sits next to me. She looks a bit surprised but smiles again before I start panicking.

"Figured you'd need saving" I finally say and she nods. She's wearing a cute beanie and her oversized sunglasses, the snow girl look suits her.

"Yea I think he followed me most of this morning"

"Did you get here alone?" I know I'm prying but this girl has me intrigued.

"Erm yea my Mom was slowing me down" She laughed getting a scowl from her red faced Mother.

Random chatter continued around the table. Everybody was sharing their stories from the day. Glen was talking loudly grabbing everybody's attention. I had lost interest in the story and was looking around the garden. I had been enjoying the cute snow girls since we arrived on the resort. The thought of being with somebody other than Taylor terrified me but I was starting to feel like I could handle a completely physical fling. I spotted the cute bar maid that Spencer had been talking to earlier and noticed that she was smiling at Spencer who was still sat next to me. Spencer was looking at her too with a goofy smile and my suspicions were becoming reality or at least I thought so. The cute brunette walked over to our table and pulled out her pad ready to take our orders. She was a lot cuter up close and had beautiful green eyes.

"Hi I'm Jamie, I'll be your waitress today" Her eyes caught mine as she finished talking and I gave her a sweet smile. Now I know I haven't flirted for a while but I was good when I was younger like really good. I used to love making girls blush and it was a skill I was hoping would come back over time.

"Hey Jamie" I smiled as I took off my glasses keeping her attention on me. Most of the table were discussing what they were having to eat, well everybody but Spencer who was staring intently at her phone pretending Jamie and I were invisible.

"I'm Ashley. It's nice to meet you"

"You too. What can I get you?" I saw the look in her eye and it felt good. Well, it did until I saw the slight annoyance on Spencer's face. For some reason I can't help myself.

"Can I get a rum and coke?"

"Anything to eat?" I almost giggled like a child but I held it in.

"Do you have any suggestions?" I asked with a raised eyebrow and I saw a slight blush on her cheeks. I forgot how good this felt.

"A few..." Jamie started but Spencer dropped her menu on to the table.

"I'll have the wedge salad with ranch" Spencer looked quite calm so maybe they were just 'girlfriends' and I had mis-read the situation.

"I'll have what she's having" I finally said with a smile which was matched by Spencer's.

After we ate we all walked back to the chalet together. I was walking slowly dragging my board in a way I was always told never to do. I notice Spencer appear beside me carrying her skis like a pro.

"So was she your type?" She asked getting my attention quickly.

"Who?" I'm trying to buy myself some time.

"The girl from the bar" Oh her I thought to myself.

"Maybe I'm not sure" I'm trying to be vague but I'm worried I sound rude.

"Do you like her?"

"I was just flirting'" Yep she is jealous. I know that tone, hell I've used this tone and being on the receiving end of it. I guess I'm back to square one with the Spencer orientation quest. I know I could just ask her but where's the fun in that? If I'm honest this is the longest I have not thought about Taylor an it's because I have been focusing on some crazy mission that I have appointed myself.

"So you don't like her?" She looks at me with those bright blue eyes and I can't help but be honest.

"Truthfully she's cute and probably a great catch for somebody else but she's not for me. Truth be told I haven't flirted properly since Taylor and I broke up. I just wanted to see if I still could. You know?" I am rarely honest and for some reason with Spencer I can't help it.

"Well you're pretty good at it" She whispers to me like she had done the day before and once again I felt shivers. I was about to reply or last I was trying to when Glen appeared.

"We are going out tonight ladies no arguments!" He yelled. I wanted to say no but I saw Spencer agree and I felt myself nodding in agreement. Damn it Davies!
