It's been a couple of months since Thor, Jane, and Darcy had shown up at the tower. Everything was going fine, all the girls had struck up a tight friendship, Steve's relationship with Peggy was going great, and Thor and Jane were inseparable. Steve drove to Brooklyn in his forties style car. Goddamn he loves this car. He took to roaming the streets seeing how things had changed. He passed a movie theater and smirked at the memory of him and Bucky before the Stark Expo. After he passed it he saw an alley next to it. He walked into it realizing that is was the same alley he got beat up in after his fourth attempt to join the army.
As he kept walking down all his memories of Bucky started flashing through his mind. He felt tears well up in his eyes. He turned and started walking and tears streamed down his face. At least I still have Peggy. And the Avengers, it's almost like a family. If only Bucky…..no! Stop thinking about it! He thought as he sped through the darkness of the alley. He thought he sensed someone behind him but he thought it was just his imagination creating the image of Bucky behind him.
Then he felt a prick in his neck, he turned and saw a tall, dark, and muscular figure. Then, his body crumpled to the ground.

Steve woke up in a cell with a blazing headache. He sat up quickly a rubbed his head. He took a moment to observe his surroundings. Empty stone room, no bed, metal bars. This seemed familiar, a little too familiar for his liking.
"We've been looking for you for a while Captain." Said a person from the shadows. Their voice sounded so familiar, a voice that he just couldn't place a face or a name to.
Steve raced to the bars and put on his most menacing face and sneered, "Who the hell are you? Where am I?"
The person stepped forward, "That's classified. You were assigned as my target to capture, and as soon as I get word I'm gonna kill you."
Steve studied this person very closely. About the same height as him, long brown hair, and a metal arm with a red star on it. But, the thing that struck him the most was the person's face. The all too familiar face to go with that familiar voice. It was Bucky! His childhood friend, practically his brother. Memories flashed before his eyes, memories of them playing in the orphanage, Bucky setting him up on failed dates, Steve rescuing him from HYDRA, fighting side by side…Bucky dying.
"Bucky? Bucky is that you?" Steve asked, his voice shaking. This was impossible. As impossible as it was, Steve was so happy that this was happening. He just hoped he wasn't hallucinating.
Bucky scoffed, "Who?"
"Bucky, Bucky it's me. It's Steve. Steve Rogers! You know me! We're best friends, brothers!"
Bucky, or whoever he was supposed to be now, moved closer to bars, "I don't know you. You're just a target. You mean nothing to me."
Steve was crying now, "James Buchanan Barnes. You never say that me. We mean the world to each other. A team! Forever and always, remember?"
"You're crazy. It's no wonder they want you dead."
Steve ground his teeth together and yelled, Goddamnit, Bucky! This isn't you. Remember who you are. Remember what you did! Remember me! Steven. Rogers. Your best friend! Captain America!" He said looking straight into Bucky's eyes.
Then Bucky's eyes seemed to stare straight past Steve and into Space. His face went blank as his past life flashed before his eyes. He saw him saving Steve from the bullies at the orphanage. Then fast forward ten years later and he's trying to talk Steve into asking a girl out to the freshman dance. Fast forward another ten years and him and Steve are talking to Peggy at the bar and everything in between. The last memory he saw was Steve shrinking into the distance as he fell off the train.
Bucky stumbled back and fell against the cold brick wall as if he was hit by a truck. His chest was heaving and he was sweating. It was like being woken up in vice, he could hardly breathe. He took a couple minutes to regain himself and then he inhaled a deep breath like it was his first time breathing oxygen, "Steve?"
Steve's eyes brightened and he reached toward Bucky, searching for the companionship he's been missing all these years. "Steve. Yeah, Steve. That's me. You remember?"
"Oh God, Steve! I'm so sorry. I'm so goddamn sorry!" He shakily stood up and grabbed Steve's shoulders through the bars. "That wasn't me I swear. You know that. I'm so sorry." Bucky was tough, but he could feel the tears stinging in his eyes.
"No, Bucky it's not your fault. It's ok. We just need to get out of here before someone sees us. C'mon, help me outta here."
Bucky nods and he unlocks Steve's cell. Bucky motions to the hall. "Down this hall. There's a secret emergency exit not to far from here. We have to hurry." Steve nodded curtly and they took off towards the exit.
While running Steve looked down at Bucky's arm. He didn't want to know but he couldn't help but ask, "Bucky, what happened to your arm?"
Bucky smiled ruefully but he answered, "Remember when I fell off that God forsaken train?" When Steve nodded he continued. "Well surprise surprise I didn't die. Arm got ripped off though. Russians found me, patched me up, brainwashed me. Clearly there's a lot more detail but we'll talk later when we get the hell out of here." Steve nodded once more and they both picked up pace. Steve was still confused at how Bucky could keep up with him, let alone how he was even alive. But he could take a good guess.

Once they were outside and a far, safe distance away from the base Steve pulled out his StarkPhone and started to dial. But looked weirdly at him and asked, "Don't you need service or whatever for those to work?"
"It's a StarkPhone. It has a homing signal in it. They're probably almost here. I'm just checking to see that it's activated." Steve said smiling. Stark was a real ass sometimes, but he never ceases to amaze. Plus the thought of Peggy plastered a smile on his face. They hid out in a cave and caught up for the time being. About Peggy, what they've been up to, The Avengers, what happened to Bucky, about everything they could think of.
They weren't even half way done talking when the Stark helicopter showed up a half an hour later. Peggy jumped out once it landed and ran to Steve. She kissed him full on the lips as passionately as she could manage. She all about buried herself in his chest murmuring how happy she was that he was ok until he pulled her out of her trance.
"Uh Peggy," he said slowly, "you might wanna take a look to your left."
She swiveled her head to the left and saw Bucky smiling at her like he used to all those seventy years ago. She yelled, 'Bucky!' and ran to hug him. She squeezed him and cried and kissed him quickly, obviously happy to see him.
"How? How are you still here? How is this even possible?" Peggy asked excitedly with extreme confusion lingering in her voice.
Bucky laughed, "I could ask you the same thing. But, on one of our missions I was knocked out by an explosion. Steve's mouth was bleeding I guess and he gave me mouth to mouth to save me. Never really thought much about it at the time but it was pretty handy in the long run"
Peggy smiled and laughed, unable to contain her joy. She wrapped an arm around Steve and replied with her own story, "Well, before Steve went to stop Schmidt I kissed him and his mouth was bleeding. You can probably guess what happened next."
At that moment Tony stepped in and ruined the moment. "Look this catch up session is really touching and all but we really should get out of here. Barnes, it's real nice to meet you. Tony Stark. Now let's rock 'n' roll outta here!"
As they were boarding the helicopter Bucky turned back to Peggy and Steve and asked, "Tony Stark. Stark as in Howard Stark?"
"Got that right. Acts just like his dad too." Steve answered. "He's got a point though. Let's get back to New York. You got a lot to get caught up on, buddy."
With that they took off back to New York, back to Stark Tower.

After they had gotten back Steve and Peggy introduced Bucky to the whole team. Except for Jance, Darcy, and Thor. God knows where they were. Darcy and Jane probably took him out to show him all the uses of Walmart or the magic of Macy's. Everything seemed to go pretty well. His first impression with everyone seemed to be quite good. Him and Natasha apparently had some kind of thing in the past but Clint made it very clear that it was not to happen again.
After the little share-fest and yet another explanation of why someone from the forties was alive and well Steve, Peggy, and Bucky sat down with some whiskies in the common room. Everyone was there doing there own little things like eating, watching TV, or reading. Or in Stark's case, fiddling with robotics as Pepper sits there and idles over him. They began to continue their conversation as three new people walked into the room."
"Hello friends!" Thor's voice boomed in the large common room. "Why are you all inside? It's a beautiful day outdoors!"
Natasha looked up at him, amused. His hyper antics always amused her, "It's raining big guy. On Earth that doesn't qualify as 'nice.'"
Bucky looked at the tall blonde god and his eyebrows furrowed, "Jesus. Who's the brick house?"
Peggy and Steve both chuckled at the name as Steve answered, "Oh that's Thor." They waited for a somewhat amazed reaction from Bucky but he just stared at them blankly. Back in school Bucky always took the opportunity to sleep in history class.
"You know," Peggy continued for Steve, "Thor. Like Norse God of Lightning Thor."
Bucky leaned in with a skeptical expression and spoke lowly, "So you're tellin' me that that guy," he pointed to Thor, "is a God?" When they nodded he went scoffed. "You really expect me to believe that?"
"Bucky." Peggy gave him a you're-kidding-right look. "After all this stuff that has happened is it really that hard to believe. The hulk. Super Soldiers. It's not that much of a stretch."
Before they could continue someone yelled "Hey, Peggy!" All of their head snapped to Darcy. She was waving Peggy over to the kitchen table where she had set down all her shopping bags. (The "common room" is basically one floor but it's this gigantic room for everyone to chill in together)
"If you'll excuse me, boys." Peggy said with a smile as she went to indulge herself in the casualties of being a girl.
Once she was gone Bucky took a sip of his whisky and asked Steve, "Ok so I gotta ask one thing. So we got two master assassins, three super soldiers, Iron Man, the scientist with anger issues, and the god." He gestured his head to Jane and Darcy. "What are the two dames doin' here?"
"Who?" Steve asked. "Jane and Darcy?" He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. "I'm really not the one to explain this. Hang on a second." He stopped talking and looked as though he was concentrating on something really really hard. Bucky just sat there staring at his friend like he had two heads.
DARCY'S POV:
I was showing Peggy this sweet pair of boots when out of freaking nowhere it sounded like someone was screaming for me inside my head. I wrote it off until I realized, oh yeah telepathy. Someone probably is. I channelled in and found that it was Steve.
Darce. Darcy. Darcy! DARCY! Can you hear me? He thought loudly, trying to get my attention.
You bet I can. Jesus calm yourself. Whadda need Steve-O? I thought back at him.
So I'm gonna need you to-
Wait. Who's that guy with you? Shield agent? Did Fury send him? I'm soooooo not in the mood for Fury.
I saw Steve smile slightly from across the room and he replied, No he's not shield. If you'd just come over here and let me explain you'd know. C'mere. Bring Jane and Peggy.
Aye aye Captain.
"C'mon girlies."I chimed at Jane and Peggy. "We're goin' on a fieldtrip."
Jane and Peggy smiled and rolled their eyes at me. Despite all the weirdness that's happened in my life I always try and act as though everything is normal. As if I don't have super powers and I'm not now a part of the Avengers initiative.
NORMAL POV:
Darcy popped up next to Steve. "What do you want Steve-O?"
"Well this is my old, very old friend, Bucky." Steve started. "We go way back."
"To say the least." Bucky interrupted with a charming smile. Even all this time he couldn't help himself around pretty ladies.
"Right. To say the least." Steve agreed." But uh, he was wondering why you girls were here?"
Jane knit her eyebrows together and asked kindly, "What do you mean by 'here?' Like why are we at Stark Tower?"
"Well yeah, that's partially it, but I was wondering why exactly two beautiful dames were in something like The Avengers." Bucky said, flirtation in his voice.
"Ooooooh." Darcy drawled out. "So you wanna know why us 'beautiful dames' are here eh?" He nodded skeptically and she smirked. "Alrighty, get ready for a magic trick." She backed up while saying, "Now you see me," Darcy went invisible and disappeared along with her clothes (SHIELD laced a few fibers of some special material into all of her clothes so they would turn invisible with her) and finished, "now you don't." You could hear the playfulness and smugness in her voice.
Bucky jumped out of his chair and his eyes widened to the size of plates, "Oh, what the hell?! Where'd she go?!"
Just then he heard this voice inside his head, Wouldn't bother looking big boy. You're not gonna find me.
What the hell is this?! Are you like telepathic or some shit? He thought back to her. This was a lot to take in.
Oh yeah I know it's a lot to take in. Mind reading, telepathy, invisibility. Weird ain't it? But that's not even all buddy boy.
Darcy reappeared in front of him with a big amused smile. By this time everyone in the room was watching with entertainment as Darcy messed with Bucky and Jane stood by, waiting to calmly explain everything as usual.
"Stevie," Darcy announced, "you ready for another go at it?
Steve's face quirked up into that half smile and Peggy's heart fluttered as he spoke, "Yeah sure, why not? Put it up." They both placed their elbows on the table, ready to arm wrestle.
"Whoa whoa whoa, Steve." Bucky warned. "This isn't a good idea. You're gonna break this girl's damn arm. And I'm not playing 'nurse Bucky' when you do."
"Well it's mighty nice that you care and all," Darcy said with a fake all-too-sweet smile, "but I'm a big girl. I got this. Alright, Steve. One….two….THREE!" They started their struggle to see who would win and Bucky whistled, impressed with her strength.
While they were arm wrestling Jane pulled Bucky aside to tell him what happened. "Hi, Bucky was it? I'm Jane Foster." She said kindly while shaking his hand. "That girl over there arm wrestling with Steve would be my best friend Darcy. Now, I'm going to tell you what happened to us and why we're here. I've had to tell a lot of people so you're not getting a detailed version because I'm tired of repeating myself. You ok with that?"
Bucky shrugged, "I see no problem."
"Ok so this will sound a little weird but Darcy and I...we're actually something called mutants. Not grow gills and extra limbs kind but more like superpower mutants. The DNA has been in us since we were born but it was dormant until Thor showed up. All the anomalies apparently woke up the DNA and caused our powers to activate. But we're a special kind of mutant, we have more than one power. Other than Darcy and I there's only one other in existence. All three of us have telepathy, and super strength and speed. Not like Hulk strength but we're just about as strong and fast as you, Steve and Peggy."
"Wow." Bucky rubbed a hand over his face. Damn. This is still a lot to absorb. "So obviously Darcy can turn invisible?"
"Well, yes. But she can also create force fields. They're actually really cool. I'm not entirely sure how it works but it has something to do with some kind of electromagnetic activity or something. But of course I'm just guessing."
"Mhm, mhm. And what do you do?"
"Oh, me? You know what adamantium is? The indestructible metal?"
"Yeah. I'm sure everyone who has ever been a spy of some sort has."
"Well…" Jane sighed and "metaled up" her body, hair, and eyes turning to solid adamantium. In the background they could hear the crack of the wood of table Steve and Darcy were arm wrestling on, Darcy's cry of defeat, and Tony scolding them for breaking his stuff.
Bucky sighed and collapsed down into a chair. This was gonna be a very long, very very, weird life.
