SO MUCH FOR MY HAPPY ENDING
PART FOUR
"I'm sorry for sounding stupid but what do you actually want me to do?" I asked, okay so I was a great defence against Loki and his army but what am I actually supposed to be doing?
"You have magic, so does Loki. He will, naturally, connect more with you than the rest of us" said Fury.
HE WHAT?!
"We need someone who he can trust, someone who he feels he connects more with, we need someone on the inside, to distract him" continued Fury, ha, to 'distract him'? You cannot be serious, mate.
"What exactly did my brother say to you?" asked Thor, Jesus! I forgot he was standing over there.
"Well, when I woke up he kinda scared me, then he told me he could read my mind, then he introduced himself as 'Loki, Prince of Asgard, God of Mischief'" I said, Stark snorted and Thor gave him a harsh glare.
"Go on" said Thor, wanting me to continue.
"Then I healed my neck-"
"What was wrong with your neck?" asked Thor, looking confused.
I rolled my eyes, "He shot me" I pointed at Barton, I knew it was him, git.
"You shot her?" asked Thor, glaring at Barton.
"Well, I-"
"With a dart, not as bad as an arrow but it hurt all the same" I said, Barton gave an apologetic look of which I ignored.
"So.." said Stark, waving his hands about, "You healed your neck with your magic, yeah?"
"Yes. I didn't think Loki was watching me but he was and he was certainly interested in my magic" I said, "Then Captain here, brought me to you" I looked over my shoulder at Rogers.
"How did he introduce himself? What did he do?" asked Thor, why was he so eager to know? Well, the guy was his brother but he was still acting weird.
"Look, what do you want me to do? Cause I'm just gonna leave if-"
It was too late, Fury had already brought up the footage from the cell from before when I was in there, it was projected on a big hologram screen thing above the centre of the table.
"I can see into your mind" said Loki on the screen.
"What? How?" my past self said on the screen.
I watched Loki intently as he started to laugh, smugly to himself. I could feel Thor's gaze burn into the back of my head as he watched my reaction.
On the screen, Loki walked towards me and took my hand, "I am Loki, Prince of Asgard, God of Mischief" he raised my hand and kissed it.
It was weird watching this on that screen, it was obvious that his lips lingered on my hand longer than necessary. Why didn't I notice that before?
Fury paused the video, both me and Loki were looking at each other.
"My brother seems to have taken a liking to you-" began Thor.
"He so wants her" interrupted Stark as Thor was speaking.
Banner let out a small laugh, Romanov looked disgusted, Barton also looked disgusted but in a kind of 'I would kill him if I had the chance' disgusted. Rogers looked uncomfortable, Thor and Fury just glared at Stark.
"Evidently" said Fury, after a moments thought.
"He kissed my hand, so what? He was being nice" I defended myself.
"Do you really think that man, the same man you were watching on your TV, the 'terrorist', is capable of being nice?" asked Fury.
Thor seemed to tense a little as if he didn't like to talk ill of his brother.
"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" I stated, standing up and backing away from my chair, challenging him to question me.
"That's not always true" said Romanov.
"That's how I see the world" I replied, glancing at her.
Fury cleared his throat and stood up from his chair, "Miss Smith, if you could just-"
"Help us" said Thor, interrupting Fury.
I looked over at him as if to ask 'why?'.
"We will leave you alone after all of this" he said, "You can go back to your life and we won't ever trouble you again, just, please, Kairi, we need you"
"Promise me" I said.
"What?" asked Fury.
"Promise me you will leave me alone if I help you; no cameras or spies, no getting shot in the neck with darts or having to face a god by myself, no abducting me from my life. I, I just want to be left alone... please" I said.
Fury nodded his head in agreement, "I... promise"
"I wasn't asking you" I stated, I turned to Thor, "Thor?" I asked, more confident in my approach to him.
"Yes?" he asked.
"Give me your word" I said, staring at him, almost pleadingly.
He seemed to think it through for a second.
"You have my word" he said.
I smiled at him and turned back to Fury.
"So, Nick" I said, in a more positive 'I'm gonna save the world' kinda mood, "You want someone to 'distract him', do you? Well, I think I'm perfect for that job"
Stark chuckled at my enthusiasm.
"Glad to hear it, Kairi" said Fury, "Now, Loki needs to think you are against us, it's the only way he can trust you more. If you are on the same side as him, or near enough, he will naturally defend you from us, we will test this throughout your stay"
I nodded while he spoke, taking in every word. Might as well get this done and over with. Besides, Loki didn't seem that threatening... did he?
"So, we have to dart you again" said Fury.
Stark just burst out laughing, Banner tried not to laugh with Stark. Barton just looked at me like I was a target.
"'Dart' me?" I asked, "Nuh uh, no deal" I said.
"It is the only way, Kairi" said Thor, "He must believe you are our enemy"
"We will dart you, put you in with Loki and your mission begins" said Fury.
"Um, just in case you have forgotten there, Nick, he can read my mind. He could just easily look around inside my head and find out what I'm really up to" I said.
"She has got a fair point" said Rogers. Yeah, he's definitely my friend. He seems friend worthy material.
"Loki will try to read your mind but all you have to do is imagine a door and close it on the memories and thoughts you do not wish him to look at" explained Thor.
"That easy, huh?" I asked.
"That easy" said Fury, "You will all need to do this if you come into contact with Loki. It is vital that he does not know what we are doing"
"So, how we doing this dart thing?" I asked.
Aw crap. I had to ask.
I reached up to my neck and pulled out the dart that now stuck out from my skin.
"Damn it, Barton.." I mumbled before falling backwards.
Thor caught me in his arms before I hit the ground.
"That could have been executed better" he murmured.
"Don't worry, Thor, I'm fine, absolutely fine.." I mumbled before my senses went dull and I fell unconscious.
