Hi! Ive come along way since my very first once shot (the kibahina fic before this one) And I decided "You know what? I'm going to turn this into a series of one shots." My Fuugen one is doing pretty well so I decided to make one for Kiba and Hinata as well. I didn't want to have to keep making individual one shots for them every time I wrote about them.
Thus these one shots were born! lol
Anyways I hope you enjoy this one and please R&R!:)
Oneshot 2: Soup
by AshAnime
Hinata caught herself as her foot snagged on a tree root, nearly toppling over the container of soup in her hand. She huffed and righted herself before continuing onward. The snow had risen a foot since yesterday. Walking was now trudging in Konoha.
Maybe he's sleeping… I probably shouldn't bother him…, she thought a moment later, her strides slowing. No! Kiba-kun is sick and he'd do the same for me!
Her expedition through the snow finally found her at the doorstep of the Inukuza's. A gust of wind sent her dark blue hair billowing around her and her opal eyes squinting against the cold. Hesitantly, her small fist rose to knock against the finished wood twice.
She nearly fell backwards as the door was thrust open.
"Hinata?! What a surprise!" Tsume flashed a feral smile and let the flustered kunoichi inside. "I was just heading out and kind of felt guilty about leaving the sick pup alone, but you're here now so it's fine I guess!"
"Who're you calling a sick pup?!" Kiba's lethargic voice bellowed from upstairs.
Hinata startled and Tsume clutched her stomach, laughing. "Take care of him, Hinata-chan."
"I- I will."
The wild kunoichi left and Hinata turned to stare at the stairs nervously. It wasn't that she was unfamiliar with Kiba's house. No, she had been there plenty of times before. It was just that her soup suddenly seemed so… foolish.
What if he doesn't like it?
Akamaru's bark startled Hinata out of her thoughts. She looked up to see him wagging his tail at the top of the stares. "Come on!" He seemed to be saying. "There's nothing to be afraid of!"
"Coming, Akamaru."
Her nimble feet led her up the stairs, down the hall, and to Kiba's open doorway. He sat upright in bed, shirtless, his blanket pooled around his waist. He stared out the window by his bed and watched his mother dart off for a mission.
Hinata felt Akamaru pass her and trot into the room, but for some reason she couldn't bring herself to leave the doorway. There was just something so serene and tranquil about the usually energetic boy before her, that she didn't want to break the spell. The sun caught his brown hair and feral eyes at just the right angle, making him seem peaceful and steady. Hinata had seen Kiba in many different way over the past years, but she wasn't quite sure if she'd ever see him like this again.
What is he thinking about? she wondered.
"Well don't just stand there Hinata!"
She jumped and snapped out of her daze to find Kiba looking at her imploringly. He scrunched up his nose and crossed his arm, all serenity gone. So much for not disturbing the peace.
"S-sorry Kiba-kun!" Hinata stuttered, walking into his room and stopping at the edge of his bed. Kiba didn't have much places to sit in his room, so she decided to stay standing. Sure she could have sat criss-cross on his bed, like she'd done plenty of times before, but for some reason the action seemed a lot more intimate with Kiba shirtless and all.
Said Inukuza eyed the container in her hand and raised a single brow. "What's that you got there?"
Hinata blushed. "I… um… I made you soup! It seems silly but it'll help with your fever and-" Kiba grabbed the container and unscrewed the top, ignoring Hinata's sputtering protests. "I-It might not taste good Kiba-kun. Are you sure you want to-"
The rim of the container met Kiba's lips as he tilted his head back and took a sip. Hinata held her breath and watched as he lowered the soup from his mouth and stared at her. She felt a sigh escape her throat when he cracked a huge grin.
"It tastes fine Hinata-chan. You worry too much."
Her fingers fiddled nervously. "I just didn't know if you'd like it."
Kiba gave her a weird look and took another sip of his soup. "Hinata-chan made it for me," he mumbled, "Of course I would like it."
Hinata's eyes widened a little and her breath hitched. This was the main reason why she was so nervous about going there that day. It was the little things Kiba had been saying those past couple of months. Maybe they meant nothing to him. Maybe they were just fleeting words with little to no meaning. But for Hinata… for her they had reached deep inside of her. Past the reasoning within her that said, 'he's my friend, my teamate.' Past the little voice that whispered, 'you're in love with Naruto.'
It went much, much deeper. Hiding in a corner of her heart that simple wondered, 'Maybe…'
"Are you going to stand the whole time you're here?" Kiba asked her, scooting over in his sheets to make room for her. Hinata opened her mouth to object, but ultimately gave up. It was how things usually went with her teammates. Even after being with them for so long it was still hard for her to speak her mind. "Look, I'll put on a shirt if I'm making you that uncomfortable."
But maybe this was why she never had to speak her mind. It seemed Kiba always knew what she wanted.
"N-No it's ok Kiba-Kun, you don't have to do that for me. You're probably hot." Kiba put on the shirt anyway and Hinata frowned as she watched a bead of sweat slide down his temple. He was probably burning up, and the hot soup he was downing definitely wouldn't help with cooling him down.
But it's good to sweat out a fever, she reminded herself, and then sighed.
"You're birthday's coming up soon," he mentioned, wiping his forehead and flashing Hinata his best smile. "What do you want?"
"You d-don't have to get me anything."
Kiba groaned. "Come on, Hinata-chan. What if I want to get you something?"
Hinata frowned. "B-But you're sick."
"I wont be sick forever." Kiba laughed and gestured towards the soup. "Your soup is already making me feel better."
Hinata looked down at her hands. "I want…"
What did she want? All her life there had been plenty of things she wanted. Her father's love, Naruto's acknowledgment, to beat Neji… but all she could do was sit and stare. She wasn't really used to people asking her what she wanted. Her wants and needs didn't usually matter.
Kiba tilted his head to the side, reminding her of Akamaru. "What was that?"
"I want you and Shino to be there."
He scratched the back of his head and set his soup container down. "That's it?"
"That's it."
Kiba stretched and placed his chin in his hands. "Well I guess we could all hang out or something, but are you sure-"
Hinata's eyes darted to the right as she caught a hint of orange right outside of Kiba's window. She leaned forward to stare down at the trail past his house and whispered against the frosted window pane, "Naruto-Kun."
Kiba followed her gaze and looked out too. Sure enough, strolling alongside Sai and Sakura, was Naruto Uzumaki. Before Hinata could protest Kiba grasped the window and pushed it open. "Oi! Naruto! What're you guys up to?!"
Hinata ducked her head and blushed crimson as the trio turned to stare up at the noise.
"Kiba? Is that you?" Naruto called, shielding his eyes from the sun.
"Who else would it be idiot!" Kiba shouted back, getting a glare from the yellow haired kyubi.
"We just finished training. Was that Hinata-chan I saw with you?!" Sakura asked, causing Hinata to close her eyes and prey for Kiba to lie. The last thing she needed was for Naruto to see her embarrassingly beat red face, or wonder why she was with Kiba… all alone… in his room.
But of course the feral shinobi simply smirked down at her and turned back to the window. "Yeah, she's here!"
"K-Kiba!" she complained, covering her face with her hands and slowly sitting up.
"Hey Hinata-chan!" Naruto called, waving enthusiastically. Hinata peeked through her fingers to see his huge smile and Sakura's friendly wave.
"H-Hi N-Naruto-kun," she mumbled. Hinata knew she was talking too low for them to hear but she couldn't bring herself to speak any louder. Kiba leaned against the window frame and eyed her fondly before laughing softly to himself.
"Hinata says hi guys!" he called, speaking on her behalf. "We can all hang out when I'm feeling better!"
"Sounds like a plan! See you around Kiba!"
Kiba shut the window with a loud thud and turned to look at Hinata. Her hands were still over her face, but he could still tell she was flaming red. Sighing, he eased towards her and gently placed his hands on her own.
When Hinata felt Kiba's warm palms touch her she froze. Carefully, he pulled her hands away from her face and leaned down to get a good look at her. "Is it real that hard, talking to Naruto?" he asked, a slightly amused expression on his face.
Hinata snatched her hands away when she felt her pulse quicken and shook her head. "N-no not really. It's just… he's…"
Kiba waited.
"He's… Naruto-kun."
The Inuzuka sat back on his heels and nodded. "It's ok… I get it."
Hinata's pale eyes found his in an instant. "You do?" She really was surprised. Was there someone Kiba liked? Since when? He had never shown interest in any girl before. Was she simply clueless?
Kiba chuckled and scratched the red marking on his cheek. "Yeah, I do."
Hinata blinked and tucked her hands in her lap. "Who's your… Naruto-kun?" She blushed; it was the only way she knew how to phrase the question.
This made Kiba laugh even more, his dark brown eyes twinkling. Composing himself, he took a deep breath and stared straight into Hinata's eyes. She felt a sudden jolt of self-consciousness.
His hand reached over the sheets in between them and touched her arm.
"You know her."
Hinata's dark blue brows crinkled. "I-I do?"
Kiba smiled, his pointed incisor grazing his lip. "You sure do."
The young kunoichi tried to think of anyone she'd seen Kiba with those past couple of months. Her mind kept drawing a blank though; it was simply too hard to concentrate with his fingers tracing the little hairs on her arm like that.
"I can't think of who it might be," Hinata confessed, frowning. "I hope she's nice."
Kiba rested his head on his knee and looked towards his window. He kept his hand on Hinata's arm, his fingers drawing invisible patterns on her pale skin. "She's the nicest person I know," he murmured, sounding faraway.
Hinata wondered if she looked and sounded like that when talking about Naruto.
"I'm happy for you Kiba-kun." It usually took a lot for Hinata to get a single word out, but for some reason those words came as naturally as breathing to her.
Kiba closed his eyes against the warm sunlight and sighed. It was a sigh so heavy, Hinata wondered if maybe she should leave so that he could get some rest. The bags under his eyes were apparent now.
Just as she rose to go, a strong grip clasped her wrist, holding her there.
"Don't," Kiba spoke, eyes still closed. "Don't go yet."
Hinata frowned. "You're tired, Kiba-kun. You should get some sleep."
Kiba ignored her though, his grasp never wavering. Hinata sighed and sat back down. She felt his hold loosen and his thumb rub where he had held her tightly. "Sorry," he mumbled, voice full of sleep.
"It's ok."
Kiba smiled and peeked at her through tired lids.
"See? Nicest person I know."
Wasn't that just adorable?
