God it's been so long, what can I say? A little bit of school and writer's block derailed the story for a while, but I'm back. Enjoy.
"What is she doing here?" Noah asked, glaring right at Brittany but talking to me. I shrugged, I honestly didn't understand why Santana had invited Brittany to join us, but I trusted Santana so it would probably work out in our favor in the end.
"I invited her, is that a problem?" Santana asked Noah. I looked over at Marley who was chatting with Joe and Teague, everyone had something offer, except me. "Look, we don't have time for bullshit anyway, it's gonna get light out soon, so can we get to it?"
"Fine, let's go." Marley was about to go outside and presumably get in her coffin so we could drive off, but Santana stopped her.
"Slow down, we have to have a plan. Blaine said the place was fortified. We have to know what to do when we get there." Santana started. "We'll drive tonight, find some place nice and dark in the morning to get you guys rested and figure out an exact plan of action. We'll find the weakest point at the base and go in there. Another thing, no killing unless there's no other way out, ya'll need to use the hell out of that glamouring technique."
"Who made you the boss of us? Your maker isn't in there, even Rachel has a stake in this, you have nothing to lose." Noah countered.
"I'm risking my life to save your daddy, so my life is enough at hand for me. If that's not enough for you then you can suck it up and we'll leave your maker in there. Now if there are no more questions…let's get the fuck out of here." Santana grabbed her duffle bag filled with weapons and lead the way towards the first car. The only way we could make this work was by having Brittany, Santana and I in one car and Tina drive all the vampires at once.
I was still a little apprehensive about Brittany, but I was thankful that I didn't have to share close quarters with Marley. "I don't trust them." I told Santana as we started driving. "Especially Teague, she's hardly said a thing since she's been here."
"Well when we save Quinn, you can tell her to get better friends, but until then you're going to have to get over it because Teague has about four hundred years of being a badass under her belt and we'll need it." I hated that Santana was already right, it made most of my complaining virtually useless. "Brittany, do you know how to shoot a gun?"
"Yeah totally. When I was younger my brothers taught me how. It's fun." I didn't know what to say to her, so I just stuck with staying quiet. Santana sped up and continued glancing over at Brittany every few seconds.
"So what was that back there?" Santana questioned.
"What do you mean?" Brittany asked clueless.
"You know what I mean." Santana snapped angrily. I realized that even though Santana was always short tempered, it was never as obvious as it was right now. She only acted that way with Brittany. I knew there was chemistry between them, I could feel it, but I tried my best to stay out of their heads, it would complicate things too much. "Rachel, when we get there, to the base I mean, I want you to stay inside the car."
"I don't think so." I assured her.
"Rachel, quit being stubborn and listen to me. I don't want those Nazi's mistaking you for a vamp, I can take care of myself, but I won't lose you-."
"And you won't. Look if you didn't want me to help then you would've made me stay home, but I'm here. I'm not leaving until we have Quinn with us and Blaine is safe at home." I explained to Santana. "Plus I'm essential to this operation. I can find out exactly where they are, I can listen in remember."
"Berry-."
"Lopez." I retorted with a huff. Santana couldn't get the best of me, not now at least. "Don't make a big deal about this, everything will be fine. In and out, right?"
"That's what she said." Brittany said with a light giggle. I looked at the blonde like she was crazy, she was such a ditz, but in a very endearing sort of way. I could see why Santana had decided to let her tag along. "So what if I accidently shoot someone?" Brittany asked. "Will I get in trouble?"
"Murder typically equals trouble." I explained to her slowly. "Santana, maybe we should stay at that motel tonight? It seems close enough, and the price isn't that bad." Santana turned into the parking lot and I could see Tina's limo doing the same behind us. We parked and got out.
"Like hell I'm paying for anything though, we'll just get Noah to glamour the owner." Tina opened the back door and all of the vampires got out at once. The sun would rise in a few minutes and they didn't look to happy about the current situation.
"Cutting it a little close aren't we?" Joe said looking up at the sky.
"Relax and go glamour the owner into getting us some rooms." Santana said and with a wave of her hand Joe was off. "Brittany you can stay in a room with Rachel."
"What? Where will you be staying?" I asked.
"With Noah and his pet bitch, we need to talk strategy." I looked over at Brittany who hadn't taken her eyes off Santana since we'd gotten out of the car. I wasn't sure how I felt about this, it would be weird. Brittany was practically a stranger, but I was inclined to trust Santana's judgment. She was the brains behind this after all. "Rachel, rest up, okay?" I nodded. Joe came back and handed us all keys and we decided to call it a night…well a day, actually.
I went into the room with Brittany and we both got comfortable on our beds before she spoke up. "So Santana's just your friend?"
"Yeah, we've been friends for forever." I told her with a smile.
"She seems really…I don't know, protective of you." Brittany was smiling I could tell just by the inflection of her voice. "Santana's different isn't she?"
"I suppose." As much as I'd been trying not to listen in on what Brittany was thinking, it had become nearly impossible since we were all alone now.
That's not what I meant, Brittany thought.
"What did you mean?" I asked her.
"I don't know really." Brittany was certainly strange, a lot different now that she was alone. She seemed almost vulnerable, but more so, it seemed like she had something to hide.
"But you like her? She can tell you have a crush on her."
She's just so beautiful, I want her so badly, I almost laughed at that. It's exactly what Santana loves to hear. "So how'd you get in this whole vampire mess?"
"I uh…guess I just sort of met this girl, by chance, and as it turns out she's a vampire too. She's sweet though, not like I thought they could be, and now she's in trouble, and now I'm gonna save her." Or at least I hoped I could. "What about you? You didn't have to get pulled into this, not all vampires are like Quinn, they can be scary-."
"Yeah I know." I know too well. "But I think that I can help, and I should do what's right."
"That's good…doing what's right." Brittany nodded and for a second I could feel the somberness in the room and it hurt. It felt like forever ago, it felt like death. "We should probably rest up, it'll be a long night." I could hear Brittany lifting her covers and getting under them, I didn't know if she'd be able to hear me but I wanted to say it anyway. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For doing the right thing."
It's my second chance, I'm lucky to have one of those.
"Okay first off, why are you all looking at me like I'm about to die a slow, painful, bitey kind of death?" Santana asked the room, she was surrounded by vampires but she'd be damned if she showed them an ounce of fear. Things were moving quickly, she didn't have time for fear.
"Why'd you bring that girl with you?" Noah asked her.
"Who? Brittany?" Santana nearly fell over laughing. "What's your deal? Afraid you head honcho spot's about to get butt fucked by that bombshell?" Marley rushed over and grabbed Santana by her collar.
"Make a comment like that again and you'll get fucked, and not in a good way. Don't bring your extra shit along, because it complicates things, and we don't do complicated." Santana shoved Marley backwards and fixed her shirt.
"Hey assholes, before you go flipping a goddamn shit remember who the fuck you're talking to. You need me to get anything done, you may have your super strength and lame ass glamouring powers, but I'm the girl with the brains. So are we gonna get to this or what?"
"I really like this chick." Teague said from where she was seated. "Okay first things first, we're the serious underdogs here. They train people to kill us, and we don't know shit about the layout."
"So what are our advantages?" Marley questioned.
"The element of surprise for starters. Not to mention the cover of the night and we've got a pretty kick ass little militia of our own." Santana's confidence boosted everyone else's moral. "So here's the plan, we go in quiet as can be. Pretend we got stranded, happened upon the place. Once we're in, we're in, release the inner freak show cause our time is limited."
"What about the chamber, it's guarded, probably 24/7." Noah added.
"Tasers, maybe tranquilizers if I get antsy. I've got a shotgun filled with bean-bag ammo, it doesn't kill but it hurts like a bullet. Then you go in and get your blood daddy, and don't forget Quinn." Santana looked around at all of them. "Look I don't want to get some weird ass speech okay, just get in and out. No one gets hurt, no one dies. We go back to Bon Temps together, okay?"
Kurt lay there on his side, still bruised from the brutal beating he'd gotten from Marley. He couldn't believe how much he'd screwed up. So much so that vampires had captured him and were now keeping him hostage. They'd probably kill him soon enough.
He should've listened, he should've just given up on the drugs, what good were they to him now? Kurt tried to open his eyes, but he was getting weaker by the moment.
I'm too young to die, Kurt thought to himself. And too fucking beautiful, too. He was going to survive, it's what he'd done his whole life anyway. He'd survive just to spite them, and when he made it out of there, he'd get his revenge.
When I woke up it was 10:30 pm. I checked my phone. One text from Sam asking where Santana and I were. The other from Santana saying that we were going to leave for the compound at eleven. I looked over to see if Brittany was up, but she wasn't even in the room. I pulled on my shoes and walked outside, everyone was waiting by the two cars.
"There she is." Santana said with a smile. "You ready?" I nodded. "Good, so Marley actually came up with a good idea believe it or not." Marley looked pretty pleased with herself, with a smug look of satisfaction on her face.
"No cars, it'll be too suspicious. The compounds about two miles north, we'll run and get there quicker anyway." That was actually a rather brilliant plan. Everyone was carrying their weapons on them already, and Santana walked over and handed me a taser. "I'll carry you."
"Uh no way perv, Joe will carry Rachel. Noah can carry me, and-."
"I can run pretty fast." Brittany said. "No seriously." Do they know? Should I be afraid? Brittany's thoughts were always so fearful, I wondered what was going on with her. "Or she can just carry me." Brittany pointed to Teague.
"Yeah let's do that." Noah said with a groan. "Saddle up, cause we're going to save my maker or die trying." Santana hopped on Noah's back and they zipped out of there in a flash. Brittany and I exchanged glances as we climbed onto the backs of our vampire vehicles.
Everything moved so quickly, I wondered if vampires ever stopped and appreciated anything, but then I'd landed on my feet as we all stood at the edge of the compound. There were four guards at the gate, and six patrolling the open field. One was smoking a cigarette and listening to music. Two of them were boasting loudly about the last fight they'd been in.
"On the count of three." Santana cocked her gun and smirked a little to herself. "Three."
Okay so I was the slowest out the gate, but while everyone else was throwing people fifty feet in the air, and shooting them in the crotch with bean-bag guns, I did make it to the gate first. I pulled it open and ran inside. There were five buildings within the gates. Blaine told me that the biggest one is where they were keeping Quinn hostage so I started running towards it.
Suddenly there was a guard in front of me, pointing a gun right at my head. My taser was in my hand but I wouldn't have time to use it. I'd be dead before I even had the chance. "Well, well what do we have here-?"
"Your worst nightmare mother fucker." I looked to see where the voice came from and so did the guard. I saw a flash of blonde hair and both of Brittany's hands go to the guards head. Hardly a second later, I heard his neck break as he fell to the ground. Brittany held out her hand and helped me to my feet. "Are you okay?" I was so shocked I'd never seen someone killed so instantly, so ruthlessly, especially by someone who looked so innocent. "We have to keep moving, come on."
I decided to swallow my fear and run with her. We nearly made it to the entrance when we saw that two men were guarding it, and the lights around the compound had suddenly turned on. "Shit." I muttered.
"Shit indeed." Santana stood beside us with her shotgun still in her hand, but I could tell something was wrong.
"Are you alright?" I asked her.
"One of them had a knife." Santana looked down at her leg and I could see the blood darkening her pants, mid-thigh. "Noah's going in first, but the lights are on and they're gonna have more firepower, we gotta move quickly." Noah zoomed past us and tossed the two guards aside, before turning back and urging us to move forward.
We entered the building, and walked through the hallway slowly. Marley and Joe showed up a moment later, but I had no clue where Teague was. I couldn't hear anything, and I wondered where they were keeping Quinn and Noah's maker. Blaine told me it was in a locked and fortified room but as we approached an opening in the building and I could see the stainglass windows I immediately got confused.
"It's a fucking church." Santana said with a light chuckle. "These guys are a bunch of-." Out of nowhere we were all wrapped into a metal net. Not metal, actually because I could hear the screams of all the vampires. Silver.
I had no time to react, we were surrounded. Someone put a blindfold around me and started dragging me somewhere. I could hear doors opening, and then metal clanging and then I opened my eyes. We were all in a cage, a big cage actually. A cage within a room. "Rachel." I looked up and Quinn was standing there with a smile on her face. She grabbed me and pulled me into a hug, even though she was a vampire, it was the warmest hug I'd ever received.
"Alright reunion's over." Noah said with a growl. "We're fucked now." I scanned the room, I knew everyone in here. Where was Noah's maker? "Where is he?"
"They don't keep him in here anymore. They're gonna kill him tomorrow. He's gonna meet the sun." Quinn explained. "What happened? You all weren't supposed to come, now we're all screwed."
"No we're not." I said suddenly. Everyone turned and looked at me.
"We're in a fucking silver death trap and they'll probably burn us at the stake, and probably shoot the rest of you. You're right though screwed doesn't cover it. We're dead." Marley said completely defeated as she sat in the corner.
"First of all, dumb ass, Joe's still out there-."
"And we have Blaine." I reminded everyone. Quinn nodded in agreement. "We can find a way out, if you just have a little faith."
"Faith is for mortals!" Noah snapped. "I'm a realist, and I'm fucking useless now. He made me, and I can't even save him." That hit everyone hard, seeing Noah in such pain. I didn't know that they could feel like that. Vampires I mean. I thought that only humans felt powerless, that we only felt like we were never enough. I guess I was wrong.
"Well maybe he shouldn't have made you then." Brittany said courageously. Everyone was silent, I was sure that Noah would attack Brittany, probably kill her. "You can stay here and lay down and take it, but I'm not dying. Not in here."
"She's right-." Quinn started.
"Don't you take her fucking side over us, baby vamp. You may be a waste of space but you're still one of us." Marley told Quinn.
"I'll take her side if I want to, because she's a lot smarter than you. Think about it, they think we're all vampires, there's our one up. Plus Joe and Blaine." Quinn explained. "Santana, are you hurt?" Quinn's eyes went to the stab wound on Santana's leg and all eyes, including Brittany's followed.
"Yeah and stay away from me, just because we might all get murdered that doesn't mean you can get a free meal." Santana always had something witty to say even in the worst situations.
"Quinn could heal you." I reminded Santana.
"No, she's your girl, you can keep her. Plus I don't want her feeling all my emotions and shit, cause she'll be having vicarious multiple orgasms a little too often for my liking." Brittany cracked a smile and so did Teague. "Now, someone wouldn't happen to have a cellphone sewn into their skin or something would they?"
"No sorry I must have forgotten to do that this morning." Noah said sarcastically. The door opened and three men walked into the room.
"Hello my name is Ford. Welcome to the Fellowship of the Sun, I hope you'll enjoy your brief stay here." He laughed even though the joke was far from funny. "You were stupid to come here, but I'm oh so lucky. You are abominations to humanity, and tomorrow you will meet the sun." A smiled formed on his face. I could hear footsteps approaching and Blaine entered the room.
"There's another one outside, Chris caught him." Blaine told Ford.
"Kill him." Ford said nonchalantly. "This is Blaine by the way." I could tell that Blaine was trying to keep his emotions under wrap even though I could tell he was worried. "And he'll be part of the execution service, it's his first time killing a vamp here. Make it interesting."
"Yeah I'll be sure to bring balloons and cake." Santana said sarcastically.
"Shut up!" Blaine said, trying to play along, but also channeling a lot of his past banter with Santana.
"Make me, greaser." Santana held up her middle finger and Brittany covered her mouth so she wouldn't giggle.
"You'll be first to go tomorrow." Ford said before turning on his heels and snapping his fingers. All of the guards left, including Blaine.
"You're ballsy." Brittany said although she was clearly impressed by Santana's antics. "I really like that in a woman."
"Keep it in your pants." Marley warned Brittany. "Although I wouldn't mind a nice little orgy."
"You're disgusting." Quinn told Marley.
"No you're a disgrace. You think you're all high and mighty and taking the high road, when you could've just fucked Rachel and moved on. It's a sign of weakness." Marley was just relentless with her hate for Quinn. "Well saddle up bitch because I'll fuck her for you and make it good, make sure she feels me for weeks." Quinn slowly stood up and charged Marley, wrapping her hand around Marley's neck and slamming her back against the silver cage.
Marley howled out in pain but Quinn wasn't budging. "Let her go." Teague told Quinn. Noah tried to pry Quinn off Marley, but to everyone surprise Quinn didn't move.
"Quinn stop." I demanded and she did so without a second thought. Everyone just kind of froze and for the first time, I think I was afraid of Quinn.
"Shit girl where did that come from?" Santana asked Quinn. "Hey Noah you must've dropped your balls somewhere, that or Quinn has 'em."
"Who the hell is your maker?" Noah asked Quinn seriously. "No more games, no more lies. Your maker's name, now."
"You don't control me Noah, and even if I wanted to tell you I can't." Quinn put her head down.
"Why can't you?" I asked Quinn, rubbing her shoulder instinctively. I didn't want her to get upset, but I was just as curious as Noah was right now. Quinn was strong, stronger than she should be apparently, and for being so young too.
"Because I don't know. Whoever it was, I wasn't even conscious when it happened. When I woke up they were gone." Everyone stood in silence, unsure of what to say.
"That sucks." Santana blurted out. I knew she was trying to be empathetic and that was enough for Quinn.
"On the bright side at least your maker didn't get captured by some hillbilly radical anti-vampire group who wants to exterminate us all. I mean, it could be worse." Noah actually cared, Noah truly felt for Quinn and we all noticed. "Let's all just take a moment, collect ourselves and then we'll come up with something together." Noah and Marley hugged tightly, Brittany went over to check on Santana, Teague sat in the corner with her arms crossed over her chest, and Quinn sat down next to me and held my hand.
"I'm sorry." She said with a frown. "You wouldn't have come here if it wasn't for me. I had to play the hero and you-."
"Just had to play the hero too." I kissed her, telling myself that this could last forever, this bliss could be perfection. We would make it out, and we'd see where we could go from there. "I couldn't stop thinking about you, I was so worried, I thought they would've hurt you. Or worse."
"Rachel that's…" Quinn trailed off and looked down at her feet. "It's just the blood talking."
"It's not." I assured her. "I like you Quinn. And I'm not gonna stop liking you."
"So how exactly did you guys infiltrate this place?" Quinn asked curiously.
"We were like a kiss ass militia. I had a taser." I said with a grin.
"Did you use it?" Quinn asked.
"I was going to on this guard but he had a gun to my head. I thought I was a goner, seriously. My whole life flashed before my eyes, including the time when I stepped on a nail at summer camp and Blaine convinced me that I was going to have to get it amputated. But Brittany stopped him." I looked over at Brittany who was rubbing Santana's back and laughing at something my best friend had said.
"How?"
"She snapped his neck." I said quietly. "It was insane, I'd never seen anything like it. She saved my life, I owe her everything."
"She's one of a kind alright. Not many…people like her." Quinn seemed to be eyeing Brittany suspiciously. "And I think you should thank her for saving your life, but then I think you should probably stay away from her. It might do you some good to tell Santana the same." I was taken aback.
"Do you two have history or something? Why do you have a problem with her?"
"It's not like that-."
"Then what is it like?" I asked, I needed to know. It felt like Quinn was keeping something from me, and I didn't like it. Not at all. "Look Santana trusts her and I trust Santana, that's enough for me. Is it some kind of weird blonde territorial thing?"
"How about…I tell you when we get out of here?" Quinn smile captured both humor and a hint of fear. "I'm gonna protect you, you know that right?"
"Of course."
"Nothing bad will happen to you. No worries, not anymore." Quinn wrapped her arm around my shoulder. "You have me."
"Hey everyone we're in a fucking church." Santana said as if it was all coming back to her. I cracked a smile, it did seem sort of ridiculous if I really thought about it. A place of sanctuary, love, devotion, and faith. It seemed fitting really.
"Maybe God'll save us." Noah said with a shrug. "Here's hoping anyway."
