my apologies for the delay in this chapter. i'm starting to have to write more original content and that's taking more time since i had everything previously written out and i could tweak what i didn't like about the other story and add little bits of new stuff when i felt like it. hopefully this is okay. the actual date will be in the next chapter... i figured that you guys would enjoy it if i spent an entire chapter on them as opposed to chopping it up to fit each character into one chapter.
enjoy~
"Don't waste your touch, you won't feel anything.
Or, were you sent to save me?
I've thought too much, you won't find anything...
worthy of redeeming."
- The Leaving Song Pt. 2, AFI.
The rest of the day was a complete blur to him.
There was school, where he barely paid attention to anything or anyone, and then he was stuck at home listening to his parents preach about the negative lifestyle they were glad he escaped. Of course, Light was a problem as well, but he took to avoiding him at all costs, asking Sayu why her brother was so persistent when he knew they were dating.
Sayu didn't have answer. She did, however, tell Mello that she would talk to Light.
The only time he got to himself was that night after dinner. Mello claimed he wanted to be alone because he wanted to get his homework done before he became too tired (which was partially true); there was a lot of convincing on his part, but they eventually agreed. Mello didn't exactly want to spend anymore time around his parents than he had to. He wanted a shower and to think back on what happened at school - mainly he wanted to think about the events that transpired between Matt and himself in the old classroom.
Folding his arms behind his head and staring at the ceiling, he allowed his thoughts to get the better of him.
A soft smile crossed his lips as he heard Matt's voice in his head telling him that he loved him. His body tingled when he recalled the sensations that the redhead caused, and how perfect Matt looked with his post orgasm high. Hell, everything about the redhead did wonders to his body - no part was left untouched. He hoped that the feeling was mutual.
It was with thoughts of Matt that sleep claimed him for the night, readying him for the following day and the date that Sayu was, without a doubt, working on.
"Hey," Sayu said as she walked up beside Mello, keeping her steps in time with his. "Are you ready for tonight?"
"I think," Mello answered, looking at her from the corner of his eyes. He reached down to lace his fingers with hers - in order to maintain their appearance. It would do no good for Light to start questioning every little detail about their relationship when it was in the beginning stages. Mello knew he would, and it wouldn't surprise him if the first question out of his mouth was 'why weren't you holding hands with my sister this afternoon?'. He rolled his eyes at the thought.
"Is Matt on board?" she asked.
"I mentioned it to him yesterday," he stated.
"That doesn't tell me anything, Mello." Sayu sighed, pulling the blond closer to her. "I'm doing this for you guys, I need him to be there."
"Sorry. I know," the blond said. "He'll be there. It's not like he does much of anything after school anyways."
"Alright," she stopped at the double doors. Instinctively Mello paused as well. "I guess I'll see you later then."
"Yeah," he hummed as he wrapped his arms around her slim waist, playing the part way too convincingly when he ghosted his lips over her ear to offer her a whispered 'thank you'.
Mello intentionally missed the bus that afternoon, opting to seek Matt out at his car, where he knew the redhead would be taking a quick smoke break before heading home for the evening. It was the only time the blond would get to remind him of their date and where to meet them. He only hoped that Matt had no qualms about their arrangement.
"Hey," Matt drawled when he noticed Mello walking towards him, his hands shoved in his jacket pockets. "What's up, Mel?"
"You're still on for tonight, right?" Mello asked, coming to a stop directly in front of him. "Sayu wanted me to remind you since I wasn't sure if you heard me yesterday or not." A sheepish grin flashed across his face.
"Tonight?" Matt questioned as he exhaled a puff of smoke, his head turned to the side as not to be rude and blow it in the other's face. "What's tonight?"
"Seriously, Matt?"
The redhead blinked. "Yeah, seriously."
"Our date? Y'know... the one that Sayu has been planning for a couple days now?"
Mello crossed his arms over his chest, the fabric of his jacket pulling tight across his body. Was Matt serious? Did he seriously forget that they had something planned or had he really not heard him after their escapade in the classroom? If he hadn't heard, the blond could kind of understand, but Matt needed to tell him instead of playing ignorant. It didn't suit him.
Matt stared ahead, green eyes locking on blue as he pondered back on the previous day. It was more difficult than he thought, seeing that after they met up he couldn't pay attention to anything. He bit his lip, lost in thought. It was only when Mello took a step closer, placing his hands on Matt's hips that he vaguely remembered.
"Oh, yeah." Matt murmured. "You did mention that, didn't you?"
Mello nodded in response. At the very least, Matt could say he genuinely forget.
"So, you're still up to it?" Mello asked again, albeit wording his question differently than minutes prior.
"Of course, Mels." Matt smiled softly. "Anything for you - for us."
"Good," the blond hummed as he pressed their bodies together and claimed Matt's lips in a deliberately short kiss. Matt wrapped his arms around Mello, holding him close as Mello rested his head against Matt's shoulder with a barely audible sigh.
It was the little moments that made all the difference in their relationship, despite how few and far between they were. They were the icing on the cake, and although the cake was far from being done, Matt was sure that things between them would be alright.
At least... he hoped.
"Hey," Mello started, reluctantly pulling away. "I have a problem."
"Huh?" Matt tilted his head in confusion.
"I missed the bus," he said.
"On purpose, I bet." Matt said accusingly with a chuckle.
"No, of course not."
"Yeah, yeah. Get in," Matt told him. "I'll give you a ride home."
Mello nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he rounded the car, opened the passenger side door and tossed his bag into the front floorboard like it was routine. If he had any say in it, everyday would be spent riding home with the redhead - though, he wasn't entirely sure when he'd finally show up. Not that he would complain; the more time they spent in each other's presence, the better.
Meanwhile, in a neighborhood way too posh and upscale for any person of middle or lower class standards, L was having a field day, much to Light's annoyance.
"How in the hell do you know where I live?" Light demanded, crossing his arms over his trademark white dress shirt.
"Am I not supposed to know?" L asked, cocking his head to the side. "I thought friends were supposed to know where each other lived."
"Friends? Ha!" Light spat, a mocking chuckle rolling off his tongue. "If anything you're a stalker."
"I beg to differ," L said. He fiddled with the hem of his large t-shirt. "I think of you as my friend, therefore I find it customary that I know your place of residence. I'd invite you to mine, but we're still in the process of unpacking."
"Like I'd actually accept anything you had to offer."
The left corner of L's mouth twitched as it curved upwards slightly. "Oh, you would."
"I really fucking doubt that," Light nearly shouted, his hands in fists by his side. He was clearly becoming agitated with L standing on the small, pathetic excuse of a front porch before him.
"I wouldn't doubt anything if I were you," L told him, his eyes wide as he watched the other teen become increasingly frustrated with him. It was only a matter of time before the Yagami heir broke.
Light stared at him - or at nothing in particular - as he continued to verbally spout off his dislike for the black haired teenager in hopes of him leaving. He maintained the same stuck up posture, shifting back and forth on his feet as his voice reached higher volumes only to soften when he'd realize that his parents could hear him and potentially invite L inside. They were always for meeting Light's friends.
L stood, looking directly at the auburn haired male with a bored expression playing on his face. Eventually Light would learn that he was a hard to case and that he would, without a doubt, win against Light when it came to everything.
"That's nice. So, does this mean you're going to let me in?" L asked, stretching his back as Light's words and insults went in one ear and out the other.
up to par? maybe?
