Percy Jackson's first day at school was a pretty normal day for me. By that, I mean I didn't listen to my teachers, I sat at my usual lunch table with my usual friends, and just bullshitted the day until the bell rang so I could get home and lock myself in my room.

"I'm home!" I called as I walked through the door, the usual sound of Hera's soap operas playing from the kitchen TV. Hera is my stepmom, but we don't really get along. We never have honestly, and never will. Our relationship has certainly gone downhill though, and now I don't even call her mom. My birthmother was a deadbeat alcoholic who wasn't fit to take care of one child, let alone two. She died when Jason and I were six, drug overdose. Dad married Hera a year later, apparently she'd been head over heels in love with my dad since high school. She was also possessive of my dad, and hated my mom even though she wasn't with my dad when my twin, Jason, and I were born.

"Hi," I muttered. Jason walked in a minute after me.

"I'm home!" he yelled.

"I don't care." I muttered. Now, you're probably wondering why I'm so hostile when it comes to my twin brother, the person who is supposed to be my best friend. You see, Jason is best friends with Luke and Annabeth (making them the Golden Trio), so he treated me like trash instead of - oh, I don't know, a person - at school. Then at home, I don't matter because he's our parents' perfect Golden Boy. No clue why he gets along with Hera like two peas in a pod, considering he was also spawned from the same psychotic bitch I was.

"Oh, good! How was you're day sweetie?" Hera asked him. I rolled my eyes. My point exactly. I walked to my room and worked on homework for two hours, then I listened to music. At around six I walked out of my room.

"Hera, tonight's family night, right? So pizza and a movie?" I asked my face set on a neutral expression.

"No, I want Cheesecake Factory," Jason said.

"Yeah, let's get Cheesecake. Wonderful idea, Jason! Not too fancy, not too casual!" Hera nodded in agreement. I let out a cold laugh.

"What Jason wants, like usual." Hera and Jason looked shocked.

"Thalia, we do what you-" she started.

"No, we don't! Whatever has to do with Jason is all that matters! You don't give a crap about what I do, it's all about Jason!" I cut her off with a snarl. Jason and Hera just stared at me in shock for a moment, and I took that as an advantage and made my getaway. I bolted through the front door and stole Jason's sky blue Ferrari, a sixteenth birthday gift from our dad, and drove to Midland Beach.

Midland Beach is probably my favorite place in the world. It's only about 30 minutes out from the city, and it's a pretty mellow beach. There are a few beach houses on the north end of the beach, but nobody really goes near them. Well, I do, because there's something like a small forest bordering the beach, and there's this one spot that has this hill with a gigantic pine tree, and the hill leads down to the shore. I remember going there all the time when I was a little kid with my family because my dad's friend lived in a house by it, but some of the details are fuzzy. Once I arrived, I trekked my way to my pine tree and climbed up it. I always climb my tree when I need to think.

Speaking of family, why couldn't they see I wasn't happy? They don't care about me, haven't for a while. My friends couldn't figure out something was wrong, but I can't blame them for that. My parents only care about my brother. My 'best friends' abandoned me. I'm just sick of it.

At sunset, I left Midland and made my way towards the city. I only went home at midnight though, and I silently walked through the silent house and fell into a restless sleep.

Next Day at Lunch:

I smiled and laughed with my friends as if I was fine. They don't notice how I sit in the corner a little distance away from them.

"Scuse me guys, I'm going to go for a walk." My friends all muttered their goodbyes. I walked quietly to the school's lake, my mind empty but restless.

"Hey!" somebody called from behind me. I put the smirk on my face and turned around.

"Hey."

"What's wrong?" Percy asked as he sat down next to me. I smiled and shook my head.

"Nothing."

Lie.

"Don't lie, Thals." I flinched at the nickname.

"It's nothing, Percy," I growled.

"Tell me what's wrong," he said with a slow shake of his head. I just ignored him, and we sat in silence with me staring at the water, him staring at me.

"You should probably go. Annabeth, Luke, and Jason are probably looking for you," I said softly.

"Those desperate losers?" he snorted. I smiled and laughed gently, the first real ones in a long time.

"Seriously though, you should go." He stared at me for a few more seconds, then nodded.

"I'm here for you Thalia." He walked away, and I watched him disappear.

"What the fuck was that?" I asked aloud.

-Next Day at Lunch (Again)-

I walked into the cafeteria but I was stopped by a blonde bimbo and her two blonde boy toys.

"What do you want Chase? Castellan? Jason?"

They smirked.

"Stay away from Percy, you're a waste of his time and he's mine," Annabeth said, as if she had a right to anybody she wanted.

"One, he thinks you guys are desperate losers. Two, I don't like him like that," I snorted with a roll of my eyes. The Twisted Trio just stared at me. I turned to walk away, but of course Jason had to call out after me.

"Hey, did mom and dad tell you about movie night tonight? At the theater and everything!" I turned around and shot him questioning look. He just smirked an evil smirk. "Oh, wait, you don't! Because they don't want you! Nobody wants you!" he said with a cold laugh. I just stared at him. The boy I used to do everything with, who I knew like the back of my hand.

"And you think I don't know that?" I hissed, glaring at him. I then did something I haven't done in years. I stormed up to my brother and punched him in the face, stealing his car keys afterwards. Hm, maybe I wouldn't steal his keys if my parents weren't biased and didn't get him his own car.

I, of course, drove to Midland again, going to my tree. And I hate to say it, but once I got to the highest point I broke down. When I say broke down, I mean I had a full-on break down, gasping sobs and everything. Jason was right. My parents would be much better off if they only had Jason, my friends abandoned me, the ones I have now don't understand me. Just fuck it. Fuck it all.
