"And your slowly shaking fingertips
show that you're scared like me, so...
let's pretend we're alone."

- Vulnerable, Secondhand Serenade.

Mello clicked the seat-belt into place as he looked over at Matt, considering all the possible places they could go to continue their date. The smart thing to do would be to find a secluded spot where they could be alone, but with what Mello had in mind for the rest of the night, he had to make sure that he was at least comfortable. That wasn't going to happen cramped up in the back of Matt's car.

"Why don't these assholes learn how to drive?" Matt questioned, frustrated with the lack of driving skill coming from the people trying to leave just like they were. A little two door zoomed passed them, nearly running into a van full of screaming kids that trying to turn into his lane. Matt was momentarily scared for their lives.

"They all can't be perfect like you," Mello said from the passenger seat, reaching over to grab Matt's unoccupied hand to hopefully help calm him down.

"They should be."

Mello rolled his eyes and leaned back, watching people search for their cars. If they'd paid attention to the number on the light poles at the start of each parking row they wouldn't have lost their car in the first place. They looked ridiculous as they maneuvered around impatient drivers trying to leave and flipping off those that would honk their horns. Mello found himself wondering how many people got hit during closing time because of their stupidity. He was sure that the number was high, though he hoped otherwise.

"So, Mels..." Matt began, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel and heaving a sigh of relief when they finally pulled out of the open field used for a parking lot and were on actual road. "Where are we going?"

"I don't know." Mello answered honestly. "I kinda figured we could drive around until something hits us." Matt shot him a glare and Mello mumbled a quick "not literally".

"I'm getting low on gas."

"Oh. Then, uh..."

"My house?"

"What about your dad?" Mello asked, his head lolled back against the seat. He brought his legs up, placing his feet on the dashboard in front of him, much to Matt's annoyance.

"He's probably wasted. Won't care," Matt said.

"Okay. Let's try your place then."

Matt nodded in the darkness, eyes glued to the road as Mello toyed with the radio in search of something he liked or could use as background noise. He gave up after his second time through the stations and put the radio back on the classic rock station that Matt usually listened to. It wasn't what he wanted, but it was much better than everything else playing on the radio.

The volume was turned down low, barely loud enough to hear. It gave Mello time to think as the redhead took the familiar route home. The blond thought about what they'd do. He wanted it to be something that would be memorable for the both of them. A good thing to end their night on.

Mello had been so lost in thought that he hadn't noticed when they were pulling up to Matt's house until the redhead slammed his hands against the wheel, cursing angrily to himself. The action made Mello jump, eyes widening as he looked over at Matt curiously.

"What's up?" Mello questioned.

"See that car?" Matt asked, nodding to the car parked behind his father's and in his spot.

"Yeah."

"I guess he decided to have poker night when he realized I wasn't home," Matt said.

"So, does this mean...?"

"Pretty much. Unless you want him to throw ten million questions at you when he sees you with me."

"Not really," Mello sighed. Well, there went that idea. The only thing they could do was part ways until they could be together again and who knew when that was going to be.

Probably whenever they could afford to skip class and meet in the abandoned room.

Matt looked over at the blond, noting the obvious frustration on his face. He was more than certain that the blond was questioning where they stood as far as their relationship was concerned and when they'd get to be together again without interference.

"Want to find an empty parking spot? Maybe an alley or back road," Matt suggested as he sped past his house and to the corner, stopping only when the stop sign came into view. It wouldn't do them any good to get pulled in a residential area - the lights from the cop cars would draw a crowd, and through word of mouth, Mello would get outed by nosy people.

"Nah," Mello sighed, biting his bottom lip thoughtfully. He had an idea. One that he wasn't sure he should suggest, but he didn't want things to end on a stale note, so he had no choice.

"Call it a night then?"

"Better idea," Mello said in response. "Well, maybe not a better idea, but it'll work." The unspoken "I hope" lingered in the air.

"Oh?"

"We can always go back to my place," the blond told him, turning sideways in the seat so that he could look at Matt. "My parents should be sleeping. God only knows they don't stay up after eight, anyway."

Matt blinked. A series of thoughts and questions zoomed through his mind, each one resulting in the same ending - it didn't sound safe. Mello watched as confusion fluttered over the redhead's features, his eyes widening a fraction as if he wasn't sure he'd heard him. Matt looked damn near comical and Mello hated that he wanted to laugh.

"Are you sure about that?" Matt asked.

"Not really," Mello answered.

"There's a but there."

"Yeah, about that. I was thinking that as long as we were quiet there wouldn't be a problem. If we don't give them reason to wake up, then there wouldn't be reason for them to come check on me, would there?"

"I guess," Matt muttered.

Mello extended a hand out, his fingers ghosting over one of Matt's cheeks as he slowly pushed himself onto his knees. The awkward way he was facing forced the gearshift to lodge into his stomach, but he didn't complain. Instead, he gently pressed his lips to Matt's and whispered a strand of sweet nothings, reassuring Matt that nothing would happen and that they would be okay come morning.

Matt, no matter how hard he tried, couldn't believe him. He felt conflicted - continue their date at Mello's house (in his room, no less) and risk being found or call it a night while wondering what would have gone down if he hadn't been afraid. The latter option sounded like the best choice, but when Matt stopped thinking about the possible things that could go wrong, he opted for the former. They'd continue their night.

After regaining their composure (after a quick make-out session), Matt drove the short distance to Mello's house. If not for the faint glow of the side porch light then they wouldn't have been able to see the house. It sat back on the plot of land, hidden in the darkness and obscured by a massive tree that had clearly been there since before the house was built. It was creepy, and the street lamps did little to help.

"Okay," Mello breathed as Matt parked across the street. "I'll go in, do my nightly routine, and say... in like ten minutes I'll signal you by blinking my lights. Got it?"

"Yeah." Matt nodded. "How do I get in though? I don't think strolling in the front door is a good idea."

"You know the old rose vines growing on the side of the house by my window?"

"Yeah. What about them?"

"I need you to Romeo and Juliet that shit."

"A-Are you fucking serious, Mello?" Matt sputtered.

"As a heart attack," the blond said, unlatching the seat-belt and opening the door before stepping out into the chilly night air. "I'll see you in ten."

"You've got to be kidding me..."

Matt placed his arms slack across the steering wheel, his eyes following Mello as he disappeared into the darkness. He couldn't believe that he was going along with Mello's idea. Mello's house - in his room - was the last place Matt thought they should be, and he was certain that a part of his boyfriend was at least a little afraid that they'd get caught.

Seriously, what was Mello thinking? So many things could go wrong.

He could fall off the house while attempting to climb into Mello's window. Mello could fall asleep and forget about him. His mother could still be awake, making sure that her son was perfectly safe and peacefully slumbering before going to bed. Someone could spot his car - better yet, a neighbor with an insomnia problem could see him trying to sneak into the house and call the police.

The more he thought about all the possible things that could (but, hopefully wouldn't) happen the more he wanted to call the whole thing off. That was a good plan, he concluded. Just call it off before anything goes awry.

Matt opened the door and stepped out. He stood leaning on the side, keys dangling in his hand, and he watched Mello's window for the signal. The wind blew, sending a surge of cold air in his direction. Matt momentarily pondered on the fact that he should have thought about bringing a jacket with him. It was getting too cold to run around without something covering his arms.

Time seemed to slow down as he lost himself in his thoughts. The moon was nearing the middle of the sky, indicating that they were approaching midnight. Matt knew they'd be exhausted when it came time for school in the morning.

It was during a yawn that Matt saw the lights in Mello's room blink on and off. Matt locked the car, and with one last look at the neighboring houses, he walked across the street and into Mello's yard. The redhead made his way to the corner of the house, where Mello's room was located, and he looked up the rose hedge with dread. Mello and his crazy ideas were going to be the death of him.

Stumbling slightly as he took a step closer to the house, Matt heard a low chuckle come from above him. He looked up to see Mello leaning halfway out of the window, his blue eyes brighter than normal and a smile playing on his lips.

"It should hold up," Mello said in a hushed voice. Matt just nodded and reached up, hoping that he didn't grasp onto a vine full of thorns. That was one of the last things he felt like dealing with.

It took him several failed attempts (because he was too scared to take both feet off the ground) to get started on the journey up. Once he was good, Matt climbed the roses like a pro. He pretended that it was a rock wall - the kind that he paid to use and bet Mello he couldn't reach the top of at some point over summer vacation. It had been a rather frightening experience, but for the sake of winning the bet, Matt prevailed. It also meant that he got to decide what they did that night since Mello was allowed to stay over. He used his victory to his advantage.

Matt tightly gripped the window sill as he began to pull himself up. He looked up at the same time Mello leaned back out, their faces inches apart. Mello grasped Matt's hand as he vanished into the house and slowly began tugging at Matt's arm, helping to pull him up and into his room. It was with an uncomfortable groan that Matt entered the house, standing not far from the window and rubbing his stomach where he scrapped the skin when he lost his footing for a short moment.

"That wasn't too bad, was it?" Mello asked when they were in front of one another.

"It was horrible," Matt said, half serious and half jokingly. The bad part had been when he slipped backwards and his life flashed before his eyes, but that had only been a minor detail.

"Whatever you say."

Matt dropped his arms by his side, green eyes following Mello as he moved around the room, going from turning the light off to blindly walking towards his bed. Matt was more than positive that he would fall flat on his ass if he had to navigate around the room with no lights on. In fact, he actually did when he moved into his new residence.

"Come here," Mello instructed from his spot on the bed.

"Okay," Matt whispered, his eyes adjusting to the darkness as he reached out to feel his way around. It would do no good for him to injure himself further.

Before he could even get close enough to sit down, Mello was wrapping his arms around Matt's waist and pulling him onto the bed. Matt found himself laying across Mello, his arms on either side of the blond so that he could hold himself up, Mello's arm loosening their grip.

"Hey," Mello whispered as he leaned upwards, gingerly pressing his lips to Matt's and changing their position so that Mello was the one laying across Matt, not the other way around.

Matt brought a hand up and placed it on the small of Mello's back, pressing their bodies closer together and nibbling at the blonds' bottom lip, eagerly asking for entrance. A pleased moan was brought on by Matt abusing his lip and Mello complied with his wishes, parting his lips slightly and meeting Matt's tongue as the redhead pushed into his mouth. Their tongues very slowly began to dance together, their tastes mingling and both of their bodies starting to feel like they were on fire. It was a feeling they missed and had been searching for.

Mello cupped Matt's face with one hand, tilting his head back for better access as his other hand slipped under Matt's shirt and began work its way up, the fabric moving with him. Matt shivered at the contact, breaking the kiss and opening his eyes to look at Mello, who was watching him with a smirk.

"Hey yourself," Matt said after catching his breath. Mello lightly chuckled.

"Take your shirt off," Mello told him, pulling at the offending fabric.

"Only if you do." Matt said, removing his hand from Mello's back and tugging his shirt off. Mello followed his lead, pulling his own shirt over his head and tossing it in a randomly chosen direction.

Mello placed both hands on Matt's stomach, whispering a quick "I'm sorry" when he accidentally hit the spot where Matt had hurt gotten hurt. Surface injury aside, the blond had a deep admiration for the body beneath him. Matt was skinny, but not sickly so. He was slightly toned in a way that worked for him. If he was any more muscular then he'd probably looked pretty weird, in Mello's opinion, at least.

Mello lowered his head to litter a line of kisses from Matt's jaw to his ear and down the side of his neck, each kiss going directly to Matt's groin. The blond kissed across the expansion of his chest, stopping to suck on Matt's pulse as he rolled his hips down against the redhead. Matt bit his lip to keep from moaning, knowing that he could (and probably would) get extremely vocal. That wouldn't work well with their given situation.

Mello sat up, eyes half lid as he looked at Matt, his eyes closed and lips abused from where he'd been trying to keep quiet. Matt's face was flush, hair was sticking to his forehead, and the most they'd done was make-out and get aroused. It was crazy knowing that Mello had the power to get Matt to such a state by barely doing anything.

Matt cracked his eyes open, slivers of green following the movement of Mello's body as he inched himself further down Matt's legs, his hands toying with the button and zipper of his pants. With a sigh of relief, after Mello pushed the restricting fabric down, Matt leaned up and dug his elbows into the mattress below.

"We have to make this quick," Mello muttered as he removed the rest of his clothes, lying down beside Matt and waiting for him to discard his own clothing. Matt simply nodded in response before joining Mello in his birthday suit.

"I love you," Matt whispered as he crawled up Mello's body, placing kisses wherever he could. His hands trailed up the blonds' sides, fingers trickling up his arms and lacing with Mello's as he come to lay on top of his boyfriend.

"Mm. You too," Mello softly moaned as their erections rubbed together, the friction too much for him to handle. He bucked his hips upwards, earning a hiss from Matt.

Their bodies moved together as Matt captured Mello's lips, sucking on his bottom lip as he spread the blonds' legs so that he could settle between them. It had been an unspoken decision that Mello would bottom - as he had planned to on the way home. He would finally get to feel what Matt felt all those times.

It was with Matt gently nibbling on Mello's ear that he pushed into Mello's willing body, after he'd spent more than enough time making sure he was ready for him. Mello arched into him, their chests colliding as Matt filled him. The feeling was different, but not unwelcome, though it would surely take a while getting used to it.

"Mm," Mello softly cried out as Matt sat back, pulling Mello into a seated position on his lap. He wrapped his arms around Matt's waist, moving with his angled thrusts and laying his head on Matt's shoulder. Shakily he pressed kisses to the side of Matt's neck, who in turn offered him a series of hushed moans.

Matt awkwardly moved them backwards until his back was against the wall, his arms holding Mello against him. Mello would push down when he thrust up, stimulating his prostate in the most delicious way. The blond had known that he would feel amazing, but he had no idea it was be beyond that. Mello had never known such a feeling existed, despite being told numerous times by Matt how it felt. He figured it was one of those feel for yourself kind of things.

And, fuck, did he like it.

Scratch that, he loved it.

"Oh, fuck." Matt groaned as Mello ground back slightly rougher than before. He could feel the familiar coiling in his abdomen, a sign that he was close.

Using one hand to keep Mello steady, he brought his other hand down to grasp Mello's erection, pumping in time with each thrust. Mello threw his head back, golden locks creating a halo effect as he was thoroughly pleasured. His mouth was open, quiet noises falling from his lips as Matt worked him.

"M-Matt," Mello moaned, the pleasure wrecking his body too much for him to handle as he came, thrusting into Matt's hand and tightening around Matt's length still inside of him.

The sticky liquid coated their stomach and Matt flinched when it came in contact with the open cuts - the fact that it hadn't bothered him the entire time before Mello's completion was astonishing to him. Mello leaned forward, positioning himself comfortably against Matt's body and claiming his lips. He could feel Matt getting close, shocked with knowing that Matt had lasted longer than him.

"I love you," Mello whispered against his lips. Matt paused mid-thrust, the coil in his stomach exploding as he shook, the arm around Mello tightening as he came inside his blond boyfriend.

An undisclosed amount of time passed before either boy decided to move. Matt was the one to make the first move as he lifted Mello's tired form from his lap in order to slide out from the blond.

"We need to do that again," Mello mumbled, resting his head against Matt's chest and listening to his heart beat.

"Yeah? I thought you liked to top, though."

"I do, but that felt nice, too."

"Ha." Matt breathed, a genuine smile playing on his lips as he helped Mello roll onto his side. "We'll do it again."

"Soon, I hope." Mello confessed.

"Of course. But, now... you need to get some sleep and I need to leave before we're caught." Matt told him, slipping off the bed to stand beside it.

"Love you," Mello yawned.

"I love you, too." Matt said, knowing it was pointless since he could hear that Mello's breathing had evened out.

Matt couldn't have wished for a better night. He hoped Mello felt the same way.
