Chapter 9
Crowpaw woke on a rock, startled. Where is my nest!? He sat up and looked around. He was in a sandy, and cliffy area. He got up and stretched. He padded in a random direction to look for some form of life. Where am I? He flinched at every sound in the chasm. He saw a sleek shape pad toward him, eyes like shards of ice.
"Who are you!?" He yowled at the shape, who then leapt at him. He ducked as a cat flew over him and skidded on the sand and threw itself at him, sending him flying across the field and into a rock pile.
"Owwww..." Crowpaw muttered. The shape ran towards him and stopped right in his face, sniffing him. Crowpaw was shocked at the sight of the most beautiful she-cat he had ever seen, reminding him of Littlepaw back home. His eyes widened as her sleek face showed signs of happiness and joy.
"Crowpaw! It's you! it's actually you!" She exclaimed, hopping up and down like an apprentice after catching their first mouse.
"Who are you?" he mewed, confused. "That doesn't matter! We have to go meet your sister! Follow me!" She ran off, as Crowpaw scrambled after her.
"How do you know my sister?" He called to her.
"She is here too! Firepaw is here! Volepaw isn't though." She called back to him over her shoulder. She stopped at a large pillar of rock, and sat down. She began to lick her paw and closed her eyes. She opened one and mid-lick said "We must wait here for the others. Firepaw should be on her way with Shrewclaw."
"Wait, this is Starclan?" Crowpaw asked, astounded. The grey she-cat let out a mrrow of laughter.
"Of course not, mouse-brain!"
"Then where am I?" Crowpaw demanded as the she-cat laughed at him. Her light eyes suddenly darkened.
"I can't tell you that, You will find out soon enough." She turned her back on him and started to lick her paw again. Crowpaw was about to reply curtly, but he heard quickened paw steps rush towards him. He saw his sister's flame-color fur through the pillars of surrounding rock as she stopped next to a brown tom. The tabby nodded to the grey she-cat and they took steps back.
"We must see the true destined one." Shrewclaw said. Firepaw nodded slightly.
"What do we do?" She responded, sounding actually serious. Why are you listening to these strange spirit cats!? She seemed to understand the tom as he closed his eyes and nodded slightly. She smiled, the most evil, treacherous smile Crowpaw had ever seen, as if she was about to break his neck with pleasure. She lowered herself, in battle position, ready for any move.
"Come at me, Crowpaw..." Her eyes had suddenly changed. Instead of their usual blue, they were the most deepest red Crowpaw had ever seen. Her voice sounded like forty cats all stuck into one. Crowpaw narrowed his eyes and bared his teeth.
"Firepaw, stop!" He growled. She chuckled a deep, menacing rumble and smiled, her eyes flashing. She circled Crowpaw, looking for an open spot. She leapt at him, claws suddenly bursting into flames. Crowpaw's eyes widened at how menacing his sister looked, remembering the happy, bouncy sister his used to know. Crowpaw let out a yowl of pain as his pelt burned as Firepaw slashed through his back like that rouge he remembered at camp. He screeched and was hit in the face by the fast moving red blur. He saw the ground splatter with blood, which to his surprise was on fire. The ghost cats were just watching, like nothing was happening.
Crowpaw stood up and faced his sister, and saw not the kind, compassionate cat he knew, but a horrid beast, spilling his blood for enjoyment. Her eyes widened. He looked at his back, which had healed perfectly. He smiled and leapt at his still shocked sister, ready to destroy the disgusting beast in front of him. She saw his move and leapt at him and hit him in the air, knocking him backwards and sent him crashing into a rock pile below. Crowpaw saw his sister, walking towards him, smiling ghoulishly, ready for the kill. He closed his eyes as he heard a blood curdling screech.
