Chapter 10

Volepaw had made her way through the misty, shadowy chasm of rocks to see Firepaw, about to strike Crowpaw in the neck, a killing wound, even with his gift. She leapt towards her, claws extended, and bowled over the red she-cat just in time. Firepaw slashed at her, ready to kill her. She held on, just out of the way of the clawing inferno. She dove into her sister's mind, hot with fury. Firepaw! Volepaw yowled into the blazing darkness. Her red eyes turned back to blue and her claws extinguished. She got off her sister, hoping for the best, and ran over to Crowpaw, picking what little moss there was on the rocks.

Please don't be too late! Volepaw prayed. She saw her brother, moving slightly in the rubble. She saw his face, covered in dust and blood, but no cuts. Thank Starclan! She squeezed the cool water-soaked moss onto his face, waking him. "Where am I? Am I at camp?" Volepaw shook her head. His eyes widened and he sat up and looked around.

"Where is Firepaw? Is she ok?" Volepaw let her mouth hang open. "Why do you care!?" She mewed. His face hardened.

"That wasn't Firepaw that I was fighting." He mewed curtly. He ran off in the direction of the red she-cat. Volepaw ran behind, and glared at the ghost cats that were standing around Firepaw's limp body.

"Firepaw!" Crowpaw yowled and ran faster across the clearing. He stopped and swiped at the cats standing by his sister. He looked at her body, and whimpered. He head moved slightly. She opened her eyes, looking at him with sorrow.

"I am so sorry, Crowpaw...I am a horrible sister... I let it take over my mind." With much urging from Crowpaw, she got up and faced the ghost cats, who stood, wide eyed. "Why did you make us fight!?" Crowpaw yowled at the ghost cats. "Why?" He hissed.

The grey she-cat crouched, tail lashing. "You would be nothing without us!" She hissed. Firepaw's head tilted. "What do you mean?" She questioned.

"We gave you a prophecy! To be the ones who-" She started choking with sadness. Shrewclaw put his tail on her shoulder and continued. "We want you to bring back our clan." He mewed, looking at his companion with sorrow and licked her shoulder. "It is ok, Eternalstar."
