Prompt: The Songfic Shuffle Drabble Game! - Taken from RE-imagine your OTP (Multiple Drabbles)
A challenge where you have to write a drabble to a song chosen on shuffle from Itunes/music player of your choice. You then only have the duration of the song to write that drabble.
I have been doing these in between revision since they make good short breaks, so here be the products of my supposed productivity. I'll write something substantial sometime soon I promise.
Rating: K - T
Warnings: Across the series, Lyla discovers pole-dancing and nakedness (never pegged Lyla as the racy one but hey, life is full of surprises), Mako Island ends up disintegrating, and Cam and Zac get their angst-ridden rivalry freak on. Also, not all of these drabbles are Cam-centric *gasp* so forgive me my weaknesses, Zyla has been growing on me recently. Also some of the songs that came on during shuffle were not songs I wish to admit having on my Ipod... due to the no skipping rule, however, they had to be written for anyway :P
Angel With a Shotgun (Nightcore Version) - The Cab - K+ - CamNixie
Nixie had always lived in fear of Mermen, as every mermaid did, but never did she truly believe that they would come back.
How wrong she had been.
Her breathing ragged and laboured, she sprinted across the warehouse floor, unwelcome tears stinging her eyes. She didn't want to believe it, but in the back of her mind a quiet, nagging voice was telling her, over and over, that she was going to die.
The situation didn't look good.
She ran between two shelves of boxed food, but as she did some unseen force yanked her feet out from underneath her, sending her stumbling. Sprawled on the floor, she took a moment to orientate herself, the wind knocked right out of her. When she rolled over onto her back, the merman was already standing there before her, his long dark hair blowing gently in the wind. In his hand was a smaller version of Zac's trident, although it was more decorative and certainly just as deadly; on his lips, a smile.
And so then she knew.
She was going to die.
Closing her eyes briefly, whispering a prayer and saying goodbye to everyone, she tried not to be scared.
Then came the clanging noise, followed by a thump.
Upon opening her eyes, she found Cam stood before her, a section of metal piping gripped in his hand, raised above his head like a baseball bat. At his feet lay the merman, unconscious, an angry red patch of blood seeping from his head.
Without boasting, knowing that now was not the time for jokes and games, Cam lowered the pipe and offered Nixie his hand. "Come on," he said, meeting her eyes, "let's get out of here."
Right Round (feat. Ke$ha) - Flo Rida - T - Zyla
There were some things that Zac could not possibly have been prepared for.
Encountering the mermaids at a club was one of them. A very, very horrific one of them.
The worst part? The worst part was that Lyla, the only girl in the world who could possibly convince him to be disloyal to Evie, was stood up on one of the podiums. She cast a silhouette against the neon pink strobe lighting, her legs splayed either side of a pole. Her hands gripped onto the metal surface, and with a great display of elegance and grace she hooked her ankle around the pole and spun, her body rising and swinging around in a fast-paced arc, her hair flowing behind her.
Curse Cam for convincing him to come along to this place. There was no doubt in Zac's mind that Cam had known that the mermaids would be coming there too. Ever since they had forgiven him for his betrayal and convinced Zac to forgive him too, Cam was always trying to do the girls favours. Apparently tempting Zac by dangling Lyla -Lyla, beautiful, strong-willed Lyla spinning around on a pole, dancing without a care in the world- in front of him was a part of that plan.
Curse him to the bottom of the ocean.
Unable to keep his eyes off of her no matter how hard he tried, Zac watched on open-mouthed as she danced without inhibition. Judging by the slight sway of her body, she was mildly intoxicated. Of course, Zac realised- that day also just happened to be Nixie's eighteenth birthday. Cam definitely knew that fact, and Zac wouldn't put it past him to have brought them to the club with the sole purpose of flirting with Nixie in an alcohol-influenced environment.
Why they were there didn't matter though, for as he tried to tear his eyes away from Lyla's spins, her leg extended and her head tipped back, she ground to a halt, freezing. Worse yet, she was looking right at him, her eyes wide, her cheeks flooding with crimson. The pair stared back at one another, the club music blaring loudly around them, and yet Zac could have sworn he could hear her speaking when she mouthed the perfect summary of their situation.
"Shit."
Famous Last Words - My Chemical Romance - K
Cam and the others stood on the shore of the mainland, looking out to sea as they watched Mako burn.
"We failed," Sirena said quietly, speaking the words that they all were thinking.
"I can't believe it," Lyla said, her voice caught somewhere between astonishment and anger, her left hand scrunched up into a fist at her side. "We let them take it back. We couldn't stop them. The mermen have Mako."
"Hey, not all the mermen," Zac said in a lame attempt at humour, giving a wan smile. He and Lyla were stood by side, and he held her hand loosely in his, a small but meaningful gesture of comfort.
"What do we do now?" Cam asked, his eyes unable to leave the sight of the Island he had known all his life disintegrating before him. And to think that only a year ago that had been his exact intent, stealing the Trident all in the pursuit of power. Still, times had changed.
"We run," Nixie answered him. "We run, and we find the others. The other mermaids can't ignore this. This is an act of war. So we fight." She spoke with dead-set determination, and Cam had never been more impressed by her than now, in all her bravery.
"You really think we can stop them?" Sirena asked, her tears showing in how her voice cracked.
"Yes," Nixie said without a shred of doubt. "We did it before, we can do it again."
"So you're going to leave?" Cam said, unashamed by the obvious grief he showed in response to that realisation.
"We have to," Nixie said, and her eyes left the sight of her broken home as she turned, looking back to him. "And then we're coming back, and taking back our home."
Marina & the Diamonds - Homewrecker - T - Zyla
"Evie will be home in an hour," Zac said, watching Lyla from the bed.
"I'll be gone by then," Lyla promised him in a clinical tone as she pulled her top up over her head.
Watching her get undressed, Zac was once again struck by how beautiful she was, and then by how awful he was for thinking such things.
"God, I am such a terrible human being," Zac groaned, pressing the heels of his palms into his eyes as he tried to shut out the stream of self-hate and blame.
"Yes, you are," Lyla told him, completely serious in deadpan. "But what's the point in starting to care about that now? It's not as if this is your first time cheating on her Zac."
"She's my wife," Zac said, despairing. "I can't believe I'm doing this to her."
"Well, you are, and have been doing so for the past two years. Get over it Zac," Lyla instructed him coldly, now stripped completely naked. She joined him on the bed and sat across his middle, trailing her fingers up and down his chest. "Now, stop whining and make it up to me."
Who Knew - P!nk - K+ - CamNixie
The funny part wasn't that Cam had left her. The funny part was that she had trusted him.
Lying back on her bed, Nixie stared up at the ceiling, an arm splayed carelessly across her forehead. She couldn't help laughing, she really couldn't. It was just too damn hilarious.
She had been such an idiot.
She'd known, all this time she'd known what he was. People never change. He'd betrayed her once, and so of course he would do it again. Everyone had warned her, everyone had said, 'He'll just break your heart.'
Still. Wasn't everyone allowed their dreams?
It didn't matter now. He was long gone, the trident in his hands, a tail on his hips whenever he touched water. Out off into the ocean, off in pursuit of some other Island to rule, some other lives to ruin. Maybe he'd find love over there, meet a girl he really cared about. A girl that wasn't Nixie.
Laughing again, sounding hysterical, she grinned up at the ceiling and shook her head. It had all been so perfect, her fluttering heart, her blushing cheeks, that overwhelming sensation of love. And all of it had come down to this.
He was gone, and she was an idiot. And idiot who for some reason couldn't stop laughing until she realised that she was crying.
Breath - Breaking Benjamin - T - CamZac
It had started out as a fight- honest to god it had.
Cam had confronted Zac for the last time, pushed him too far, and finally Zac had punched him. His fist had cut him squarely across the jaw, connecting well, leaving a nice, purpled bruise blossoming behind in its wake.
Then Cam had retaliated, pouncing at him with all his pent up anger and resentment finally being unleashed. It was only then that Zac really thought he understood what Cam was feeling as the blonde boy tried desperately to take out someone who was twice his physical superior. His desperation was almost touching.
Still, Zac wasn't going to let him win just because in that moment he felt guilty for turning Cam into what he had become. Grabbing the blonde, he rammed him back against a wall, pinning him. He knocked the breath right out of him, winding him with the force of the shove, and Cam could only gasp in air for a moment. Before he could choose to either punch or kick Zac, however, the merman made his own move. He brought their faces close together and, ensuring that Cam was firmly trapped back against the wall, kissed him with just as much heat and fury as their punches had harboured.
The kiss kept going, Cam responding in kind as he kissed Zac back with the same broken anger he had fought with. Rather out of the rulebook, he then bit his lip, causing Zac to lift his arms up higher with the jolt of pain, stretching out Cam's body so that he was ever so nearly lifted off of the floor. Cam only took advantage of this, however, lifting his legs up and wrapping them around Zac's waist so that he in turn was caging him, resting his weight upon him. Leaning over, shifting more of his weight onto Zac's hips, Cam pulled his arms free and brought his fingers down to knot them in Zac's hair, kissing him furiously all the while.
