Author's Note: I know I always promise to post early but never do it. Sorry. I'm kind of a procrastinator in some stuff especially when there's a load of schoolwork and I'm also applying to college...Well, you get the idea.
This is a very emotional chapter. So... I thought I'd mention it. Enjoy it, review, and Go Dramione!
Malfoy Manor
"Love, we're home. You wouldn't believe who Scorp made friends with today..."
"Mom! You wouldn't believe it. Dad thought I was a brilliant Slytherin today..."
Hermione and Siria were sitting on the sofa in the ornate living room and they raised their eyebrows.
"Don't bother telling me you spoke to Harry or something. Cuz I'm not stupid enough to fall for it", said Hermione rolling her eyes at Draco and Scorp all but jumping from impatience.
"But we really did talk to them mum and we met Uncle George and I & Siria have a play date with Albus and his cousins", said Scorpius.
"WHAT?" Hermione's eyes looked ready to pop out.
Draco suppressed a smile. Scorp tapped his foot
They sincerely waited for 'them' to believe 'them'.
*Pause*Hermione considered them incredulously.
*Pause*Siria stared.
*Pause*Hermione stared a bit more.
*Pause*Hermione cast an unbelievable look at her husband only to receive a bland look in return.
*Pause*Siria narrowed her eyes at her twin only to receive a 'very' familiar bland look.
Hermione went closer to them with Siria tagging behind her, both still suspicious.
They walked around the boys/men, inspecting trying to figure out if they were lying and then, seemingly satisfied,
"Whoa, Mr. Malfoy. I might be proud of you after all..." Hermione snuck an arm round his neck.
Draco smirked as he slid his own hand around her waist and pulled her up against him.
Scorp and Siria snuck out of the room to catch up on all the details of the second play-date they'd managed to snag in their first week in England.
"Harry agreed to it?" Hermione opened her eyes wide. Very wide.
"He didn't have a choice. His kid practically blackmailed him into it." So did mine.
Draco could hear the wheels whizzing in her head and knew he wasn't let off the hook yet when she asked him questions – Where was the date? How did they meet? ("Scorpius helped someone?" Draco chuckled at that.) And so on.
"You don't have to worry about George, Mrs. Malfoy. He won't tell anyone or his funds will incidentally disappear. And there might be the small fact that I let it slip in front of Potter that the Malfoys own shares in WWW." Draco was now smiling. As was his wife.
"You are so mean. Mr Malfoy. He's probably going to complain and then laugh about it with Ginny since I might have mentioned that I might have told Ginny...Then, he might take revenge on you. Look out. I happen to love my husband. "Then, looking up into his grey , all-piercing grey eyes, as she had for more than a decade, being the only one to have ever understood him other than his parents and friends, perhaps more so, she asked him," Why?"
Frowning slightly (otherwise he might get lines on his face), Draco, perfectly understanding the question, in a rare moment of tenderness, closed his eyes and opened them to look into trusting, warm hazel brown eyes, identical to their kids, filled with so much love for him that he wondered what he had ever done to deserve it and said, "For you..."
Hermione brushed her fingers across his cheek as tears gathered in her eyes, "Thank you. For everything. For being you. For loving me. For being my husband. Taking care. Everything. Thank you. For all you've d-"
Draco ran his own hand down her cheek as he shushed her gently, "You don't need to thank me. If there's anything someone's done for the other, it is what you have done for me. You gave me a reason to live. To stay alive. You gave me a chance. You gave me and my parents a family. You gave me you. I can't apologise less for all that has happened in the past. But I can try to made amends and you... For you, I can do anything. Anything, Princess, anything... I love you." Draco could feel the tears forming in his eyes.
And then they kissed. And hugged. Until they heard a muffled sniffle and a clearing of throat and two very watery sets of eyes staring at them.
Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy.
"Yes, my dear. If anyone should be doing the thanking, it should be us. You gave this place life, even when you were going around the world. You gave us a reason to live as you did for our son. You gave us a semblance of family. You gave us friends in your parents, friends I've...we've never had all our lives. Maybe, someday, I'll meet my sister again; see her child, her grandchild as she sees mine... I can never thank you enough for all you've given us yet and all I know you will give us..."
Lucius picked up as he held Narcissa as she trailed off... "Mione, I am the most thankful of all of us. They were worthy of a chance. I...I wasn't. But you still gave it to me. Gave me a chance to prove... prove I was worthy enough to hold my grandchildren in my arms. I'm probably breaking a lot of Malfoy rules here... Rule no. 328 for crying, Rule no. 236 for being emotional, Rule no. 165 for being so brave to tell you, so ... so Gryffindorish. But all of us love you. For you. For showing us what could be. Thank you. " And then he pulled Draco and Hermione into a four-membered hug before Hermione could ask about the Malfoy handbook.
As they all stared misty eyed at each other, Draco and Lucius said at the same time, "Don't you dare mention this to anyone or else..."
All of them chuckled through their tears.
P.S. I know I have to write two play dates. I was thinking of combining them with George calling the Slytherins after Hermione mentioning it to him... What do you think?
