A/N: Hello again everyone! Sorry that this is a little late, but I just finished planning out my next story (which will be up either this week or next week)! I'd like to thank winterschild11, Kames all the way, and for reviewing!
This chapter is the one quite a few of you have been waiting for, the chapter where you get to hear James' side of the story! I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter 6
I let out a sigh of relief as I shoved my books into my locker.
Today was Friday, and since the day was over, I was officially free to enjoy my weekend.
And suprisingly, Kendall hadn't tried talking to me, which I was grateful for. I closed my locker, jumping when I noticed Kendall standing there.
'Speak of the devil…'
"Hey." He said, rocking back and forth on the heels of his feet.
"Hi…" I said suspiciously, noticing that he was holding something behind his back.
"So… I was thinking that maybe we can hang out this weekend? Try and come up with a few ideas for the project, you know?" He asked, a hint of hope in his voice.
I stared at him for second before letting out a sigh, knowing that it'd be best for us to get the jump on this project. Besides, the sooner we get this done, the better.
"Okay." I said, noticing the smile forming on his face.
"Great! So, should we do this at your house or mine?"
"Yours." I said immediately, shrugging my shoulders at the questioning look that he was currently giving me. "So do you mind telling me what you're hiding behind your back?" I asked, regretting the words as soon as I said them as Kendall's smile turned into a goofy grin.
"It's for you." He said, pulling his hands from behind him to reveal a not so nicely wrapped present.
"For me?" I asked as he handed me the present. "You do know it's not Christmas for another month or so right?" I joked.
"Haha, very funny." He deadpanned before motioning to the present. "Just… trust me. You'll need it." He said, giving me a smirk before walking away.
"I'll text you later." He called over his shoulder, disappearing from view seconds later.
I stared down the hallway for a few seconds before making my way to my car. As soon as I was inside, I unwrapped the present, curious as to what it could be.
I peeled the wrapping back to reveal a 'Guitar For Dummies' book along with a pack of guitar picks and a note.
I'm not sure how good your guitar skills are at the moment, so I figured I'd let you brush up on your guitar knowledge before we start working on our project. Have fun! ;)
-Kendall
I rolled my eyes after reading the note, putting it over in the passenger seat before starting my car, a small smile forming on my face as I pulled out of the school parking lot.
XxX
I wasn't sure why, but I couldn't shake the bundle of nerves that I felt as I stepped onto the Knights doorstep.
Kendall had sent me a text asking if I was ready to get started on the project, to which I said yes, wanting to get done with it as soon as possible. But now that I was actually here, I was feeling a little reluctant.
Before I could even process what I was doing, I had already rang the doorbell.
I was tempted to turn around and leave, but I stood my ground, the door opening seconds later.
"Hey." Kendall said, giving me a small smile before motioning for me to come in.
"Hey." I replied softly, noticing that the house was the same as it was years ago.
"Come on up to my room and we can get started. Unless you're hungry? There's leftover pizza in the fridge." He offered, to which I quickly declined.
"No thanks. I ate before left home." I admitted.
"Alright then, let's go."
As we walked up the stairs to his room, I noticed that pretty much all of the same pictures were up on the wall, give or take a few. One picture in particular caught my attention.
It was one of Kendall and I, taken about a year after we had met. I couldn't help but smile a little at the picture, seeing how happy we both looked.
"James? You coming?" Kendall asked, breaking me out of my thoughts in the process.
"Um… yeah." I said, taking one last look at the picture before walking into Kendall's room.
The first thing that I noticed when I walked into his room was that it was completely different. Which I guess makes sense since given how long it's been since I've been in here.
"Alright, I have two guitars for us to use so I hope you read your book." He said, giving me a teasing smirk before walking over to his closet.
"Yeah, thanks for that by the way." I said sarcastically as I followed him over to the closet.
"You're welcome!" He chirped before reaching into the closet, but there was something that caught my attention.
"Oh my gosh, you still have this thing?!" I asked as I reached in, pulling out the ukulele.
Of course at the time he had gotten it, we didn't know it was ukulele.
"Hey Kendall!" I exclaimed as I walked into his room.
"Hey James! Look what I got for Christmas!" He said, pulling out what looked like a mini guitar.
"Is that a guitar?!" I asked as I ran over to him, running my fingertips over the instrument.
"Yep! My mommy got it for me for Christmas! She said it was guitar for kids!" He exclaimed, eyes shining with joy as he started strumming on the guitar.
"Uh… I don't think you're playing it right." I said, noticing that something about it sounded a little off.
"Yes I am!" He argued as he continued strumming.
"Okay, okay." I said, putting my hands up in defense. Before reaching for the guitar. "I want a turn!"
I couldn't help but chuckle a little at the memory as I ran my fingertips over the instrument like when I first saw it.
"I still think it was genius of Mrs. Knight to pass this off as a guitar. They're cheaper than guitars and we were too young to know the difference." I said, putting the ukulele back where I got it from.
"I know! I remember how mad I got when I found out it was fake." He said, chuckling a little as he stood there, holding the two guitars.
We stood there in silence for a few seconds before I suddenly spoke up.
"Why'd you keep it? I mean, you have real guitars now." I said, curious as to why he would keep. But I was starting to regret my question as I noticed his cheerful demeanor change.
"Honestly? I kept it because it kinda reminded me of you." He said softly, averting his eyes away from me before continuing. "I would play it every once in a while. But every time I played it, I would think of how you kinda knew that it wasn't really a guitar." He said, chuckling a little in the process. But his words triggered something in me, reminding me what I was here for.
"We should get to work on that project." I said, taking a guitar from the blonde before moving over to the bed, ignoring the shocked look on his face at the change in my demeanor.
"James…" He said softly, moving over to sit beside me.
"I was thinking that we could probably try and get a melody first." I said, doing my best to block him out.
"James." He said, putting a little more force into his voice.
"Then maybe it'll make writing the lyrics a little easier since we'll have a sense of what we want the song to be." I added.
"James!" He snapped, shocking me for a second.
"What?!" I snapped back, quickly going on the defensive.
"Look, I don't know what your problem is. I know I messed up, I get that. But you're not even giving me a chance to fix things!" He yelled, his breathing becoming a little ragged.
"Well did you ever stop to think that maybe I don't want you to fix things?!" I retorted, not missing the hurt look that flashed across his face.
"What did I do to make you hate me so much?" He asked softly, looking almost like a kicked puppy.
"You wanna know what you did?" I asked, feeling myself on the verge of snapping. As soon as he nodded his head, I let loose.
"You abandoned me. You promised that you wouldn't let anything affect our friendship. You promised Kendall. And it only took you months to break that promise!" I yelled, all the pent up emotions that I had kept buried for all those years finally coming out.
"I… I didn't-" He started, but I didn't give him a chance to continue.
"I needed you Kendall! I was just the new kid so I didn't have any friends. Which meant I had no support when I had to deal with my parents constant fighting. I needed someone, anyone to talk to. And I had nobody! My parents threatened to divorce each other so many times that I thought it was a matter of time before they actually went through with it! Do you know how many nights I cried myself to sleep? How many nights I spent wondering if my parents really were going to split up or not?! Even now, there's still a chance of them splitting up!" I yelled, angry tears threatening to fall, but I refused to let them. Not in front of Kendall of all people.
"Jay, please just give me a chance to-"
"No! You wanted to know why I hate you so much, so this is it! I needed you! I was alone and I needed you to be there for me like you promised you would! But it's too late now. It's done. We're done." I spat before walking out of the room ignoring Kendall calling my name.
I kept walking until I made it to my car, quickly starting it up and pulling out of the driveway.
I drove for a couple minutes before pulling into a random parking lot, letting the tears fall in the process. I rested my head on the wheel as all of my pent up emotions were released, ignoring my phone ringing in the process.
So… that was kinda intense huh? You all finally got to see why James is so mad with Kendall. But the question is, does he really hate Kendall? Or does he just think he hates him because of how hurt he is?
On the upside, you did get a little lighthearted Kames in the first half of the chapter! That's something, right?
I really hoped that you all enjoyed this chapter and that I did a good job at conveying James' emotions! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this chapter!
Next chapter will be up soon and again I will also be uploading a new story wither sometime this week or next week so be on the lookout for that or you can follow me to get the alert!:)
