Chapter 12
It had been almost a month since Cory had been home from the hospital and slowly everything was slipping back to normal. Ariella was walking more confidently now and had started to run and climb, which meant a lot of scary moments for Kurt and Blaine as they saw her standing on the sofa ready to jump off. Kurt who had gone through all of this with Devon found it quite funny, though he did remember the first time Devon climbed on the little kitchen chair and then onto the table and then fell off with a loud thump. Kurt had called the hospital double checking his son was okay despite the fact that Devon was up and ready to do it again a happy smile on his cheeky face.
"Kurt she's doing it again!" Blaine said in a panic as he rushed over to the sofa to try and help Ariella down.
"Babe, we just got to let her. She'll soon stop. The more we let her do it there won't be fun in it for her." Kurt said as he put Cory into his play pen. Since coming out of the hospital Cory hadn't been as confident on his feet, he liked being held and would often scream when he was put down. Like now. The minute Cory's bottom was on the floor he was wailing for Kurt to pick him up, his little hands reaching out for him.
"What if she hurts herself?" Blaine whispered.
"She won't." Kurt said. "I got these when I was out." Kurt said and grabbed the big bags he had been carrying in, he pulled out a folded soft mat and rolled it out in front of the sofa. "I know it's not very attractive but if she falls she will have a soft landing."
"So we're encouraging her to be a crazy monkey child?" Blaine said throwing his hands up in despair.
"Not encouraging it, but being safe about it." Kurt said gently. Kurt knew that they had been very lucky in not arguing over most things that happened with the children, they knew some parents who argued over every little thing and they were both glad they weren't like them.
"I'm over reacting right?" Blaine sighed and collapsed next to Ariella on the sofa.
"No, not really. You're just worried. It's okay. I was like it with Devon. I freaked out about every little thing." Kurt said softly, he finished unpacking the bags, trying hard to ignore the screaming coming from Cory. He knew if he gave in and picked him up then Cory wouldn't get over this anxiety, as much as it hurt he knew that this was for the best. Just like Blaine knew deep down that he had to let Ariella jump around on the sofa.
"How long do you think Cory will be like this?" Blaine asked, making an umph sound as Ariella decided it would be more fun if she jumped on him.
"The doctor said it would be like this for a few weeks, he can go back to day care next week, once he settles back in there he will be okay." Kurt said, though it was mainly a hope, he wasn't too sure if it was the case.
"Okay." Blaine nodded looking over at Cory with a sad smile. He put Ariella down and watched as she rushed over to him.
"Cory." She said and held her arms out for him. Ariella's speech had also improved over the past month, they were coming up to their second birthday and though she didn't always use words, Kurt knew Ariella had more words then Devon did at her age. Though Ariella tended to only use them when she needed and was by far one of the quietest children in her group at Day Care.
Cory blinked up and shuffled closer to her, allowing his big sister to cuddle him. Slowly he stopped crying and Ariella handed him some toys and they began to play together.
"They get along so well." Kurt grinned cuddling up to Blaine on the sofa.
"I hope they always will." Blaine grinned. "I don't think I can take them not getting along."
"Well I think they will both get along great with Devon, they seem to idolise him already."
"That's because he's pretty awesome." Blaine chuckled.
"This is very true." Kurt smiled and curled around him more.
"We should start planning their birthday." Blaine smiled, running a hand along the hem of Kurt's top, his fingers snaking against his skin. Kurt shivered and arched up against him.
"We should." He said softly. "I can't believe they're nearly two."
"Feels like just yesterday you were walking around as big as a house." Blaine grinned.
"Hey I thought you said I wasn't that big." Kurt pouted.
"You were always beautiful to me." Blaine smiled stroking his cheek, making Kurt lean in closer against him.
"Does it make you want more?" Kurt asked quietly.
"One day." Blaine breathed staring into Kurt's eyes, he knew their little family wasn't big enough for them just yet.
