The quiet sound of a turning page broke through the silence that surrounded the Miller's backyard, where the bespectacled Chipette, Jeanette, sat in the shade of an oak tree. She was reading Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare for school, which happened to be one of her favorite books.
She was so wrapped up in the story, she didn't hear the approaching footsteps crunching through the soft grass.
"But soft!" came a voice from behind, causing Jeanette to jump, startled. "What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Jeanette is the sun."
Jeanette turned and looked around the tree trunk, and her emerald green eyes lit up with happiness as Simon walked over.
"Hey, you," she greeted him, a smile forming across her lips.
"Hey, you, too," Simon replied, taking a seat on the ground next to her.
"How did you know what I was reading?" she asked, leaning against him and resting her head on his shoulder.
"I noticed how excited you were when we found out we were reading it in class." He chuckled and wrapped his arm around her, then tapped her nose playfully. "I know it's one of your favorites."
She offered him one end of the book. "Well, would you care to read it with me?"
Simon grinned. "I'd love to."
They spent the rest of the afternoon taking turns reading Romeo's and Juliet's lines, discussing parts of the play and what their favorite scenes were, and when the sun began to set, they set the book to the side and held each other in a warm embrace, enjoying the solitude.
"You're my sweet Juliet…" Simon whispered, stroking Jeanette's silky brunette hair and placing a gentle kiss on the top of her head.
Jeanette let out a soft, content sigh and let her eyes flutter closed. "And you're my Romeo…"
