Alphard

Alphard had a plan. Well, actually that statement was a lie. He didn't really have one. It was more of an idea.

According to Tom, he wanted him to become chummy with Sabrina so that he could 'keep an eye on her' and 'find out what else she knows'.

Bull shit. All bull. Tom wanted him to spy on her so that he could get to know her through him. Tom wanted him to be his wingman. He wanted Alphard to put in good word about him to Sloane.

Alphard smirked at his brilliant logic for figuring it out.

But shortly after, his smirk melted off of his face leaving a slight frown. His brow was furrowed and his grey eyes were narrowed in thought. What Tom was asking of him was going to be much harder than he thought.

Alphard shook his head again to clear his thoughts.

'Ok, think Alphard. Think..."

The brunette smiled again at his idea that was almost ready to turn into a full out plan.

He made a silent promise to himself and to his dark, heartless little friend he would succeed in his game of matchmaking.

If there was one thing that Sabrina absolutely missed in her brief attendance of muggle school, it was English class.

She loved to write. And she loved to read. It's an unexpected hobby for such a...fidgety, loud, extroverted person and she wasn't exactly brilliant at it but she enjoyed it.

Sitting through Binns lecture was becoming such a tedious task for Sabrina. You see, normally she would just spend the whole time passing notes to Guin and tickling Marius' neck with her quill just to annoy him; but neither of her two new companions were present. They were both sick. So for the sake of having nothing better to do, and as a method of procrastination (she still had a lot of homework to do), she began writing again. She ended up scribbling up to three pages of useless dialogue between a coat and its wearer.

When it was time to leave, she began to neatly pack her things into her bag. The wet parchment, decorated with the words of an insane, imaginary conversation was swiped up from her desk. The action escaped her
notice until she felt the smooth surface of wood underneath her fingers when she reached for her musings.

Her dark eyes snapped to meet a pair of stone grey ones. They were familiar eyes, but she didn't know the owner.

The boy held her gaze with an amused smile on his lips as he waved the parchment in front of her nose.

He was obviously Walburga's brother, she could tell that much. They looked so much alike. Although, the stern and sour expression in her eyes were absent from his. He seemed like a cool dude.

"Clever," he said. "A bit strange, but clever."

Sabrina raised her brows at him and tilted her head a bit to the side.

"Thanks?"

"It's a compliment bird, writing hardly ever amuses me."

"Right," she said to him, not exactly certain on what she should say.

She settled on saying, "You know, it's rude to just take things and read thoughts without asking. What if I had been writing about something private?"

The unnamed boy smirked and countered, "But you weren't. I can't see a girl like you spilling all your deepest, darkest secrets onto a piece of parchment."

"Fair enough," she sniffed. 'You have absolutely no idea, Blackie.'

"...May I have it back?"

"Oh yeah, here." He handed her the, now dry, pieces of parchment.

She took them with a small thank you and primly put it inside her bag.

Throughout all of this the boy remained still, just watching her with those stony eyes. It was starting to creep her out and she felt naked. Though, his stare was not as uncomfortable as Riddle's.

"Erm...is there something I can help you with?" she asked him hesitantly.

He blinked a bit, like he was clearing dust from his eyes and he shook his mop of wavy brown hair too.

"Sorry, I sort of just blanked out there. I'm Alphard. Walburga's brother."

His hand reached out to shake hers and she obliged.

"Sabrina Sloane. But I suspect you might already know that."

"A bit cocky now, eh?" he said with a teasing grin.

He was answered with a cheeky grin on her own face.

"I suppose so."

There was a lull in their awkward conversation.

Alphard cleared his throat, though he seemed not to notice the tense atmosphere floating between them. That, or he was just ignoring it.

Sabrina rocked on the balls of her feet and let out a long whistle.

"You're probably wondering why I'm here. And why I'm depriving you of lunch."

"Yeah, a bit."

"Well, Saber-mind if I call you that?"

She crinkled her nose at the new nickname.

"Do you mind if I call you Alphie?"

At her rather cutting remark, Alphard let out a bark of laughter.

"Touché."

Sloane sighed a bit impatiently, but not unkindly. She stared at him with wide eyes, as if probing his mind. It was a bit disconcerting. He could see why Tom wanted him to spy on her and why Tom fancied her. She was like the female equivalent of him.

"So, what is it you want Blackie? You inbreeds don't come flocking to me unless you need something or want to attempt and fail at tricking me into doing something stupid. Did the spawn of satan send you here to interrogate me? Or did you come here to lead me onto a wild goose chase and starve me?"

Alphard's eyes widened momentarily. 'She's definitely onto me.'

"You know, you really ought to work on your social skills. Calling people names isn't very nice."

"Neither is snooping on people."

"What makes you say that?"

"Why'd you take my parchment and read it, Charlie?"

"Who's Charlie?" Alphard asked, puzzled. This girl was confusing him. She was almost worse than Tom with that sharp tongue of hers playing mind games with him.

"You. You look like a Charlie." She told him, patting his head. It was funny how she had to step up on her tiptoes and even jump a bit to do so.

"Call me whatever you like, short stack. I read it because I was curious."

She tsked at him. Tsked at him.

"You know, you really ought to work on your social skills. Taking without permission isn't very nice. And here I thought I was the savage one." she said this with a teasing edge in her voice.

She was smiling now and Alphard couldn't help but smirk. This was going to be a challenge. Bringing two stubborn bulls together. They were like seven year olds, pulling at each other's' hair and throwing glue at each other to get the other's attentions.

The girl had a sharp tongue. He could see why Tom was so fascinated by her. He could also see why Tom had been on his man period for the past month. He's spent ten minutes conversing with her and she's already mixed up his words and threw it back at his face.

"You still haven't told me what you wanted, Shaggy." She said expectantly, making her way towards the door. Alphard followed her close behind.

He smiled a lazy smile he reserved especially for the ladies.

"I'd like for us to be friends, Saber."

"...I'm serious. Stop it! Stop it right now! Bloody hell!" the golden haired girl screeched.

A perfectly manicured hand smacked at the brunette boy in front of her, only to have her wrist entrapped in his hand.

Her pretty face was scrunched up into an irritated scowl and her painted lips let out an unintelligible string of curses.

Mocking stone grey eyes twinkled mischievously at a pair of vehement silver orbs.

"Why must you be so-so-Ugh! So uncouth?! You are a disgrace to the house of Slytherin and a blemish to society!"

Alphard merely smiled down at her attempts to shake his hand off her wrist and at her biting insults.

"Uncouth? Is that the only word you can use to insult me? Surely you're more creative than that Everett." he tsked much to her absolute dismay.

She struggled and grunted for another few minutes, before kneeing his thigh, allowing her to break free from his grasp.

A haughty smirk made its way onto her face as she watched his face contort into a wince.

"No, I've got a few choice words."

Alphard's smirk was back in place and upon seeing it, Aphrodite slapped him across his right cheek.

A small laugh erupted from deep in his gut and he said, "What the hell was that for?"

Aphrodite pursed her lips and swiped off the nonexistent dust on her clothes.

"That was for pulling my hair and...being you."

"If you hate me so much why'd you come here and seek me out?"

She sighed through her nose, causing it to flare. He would have laughed, but he figured he's agitated her too much for one day.

"What are you doing? Hanging around that scum?"

Accusation dripped heavily from her tone. Her arms crossed over her chest as she stared him down.

Her eyes moved left and then right before she added in a whisper, "She might infect you with her diseases."

A sputtered hoot came from his chest as he heard her last proclamation.

"Diseases? Now that's just ridiculous Everett. Don't be daft now."

"Don't turn the tables on me. You're the one betraying our house. When you get sick, don't blame me."

"In case you haven't noticed, she is in our house. And why do you care if I get "sick"..."

There was a pause and then: "Are you concerned for my health Everett? Are you admitting that you care for me?"

Her face reddened and her expression soured by tenfold. Tiny fists were clenched at her sides as she glared at him with such ferocity.

'How dare he. The nerve of him.'

"I don't. I care about why you're gallivanting with the mudblood."

"You mean Sabrina?"

"Oh, how nice. You're on a first name basis now. You sleep with her yet?"

Alphard couldn't believe his ears. He blinked a few times before smirking.

'She thinks I'm sleeping around with her. She's jealous.'

"Are you jealous, love? I could...ease the frustration if you like."

The cheeky brunette winked at her and she slapped him across the face, the left one this time.

She threw her hands up in resignation before saying:

"Ugh! You are an ass, Alphard Black! A huge asshole!"

With one final stomp and growl of frustration, she pushed her way through to the great hall and plopped down onto her usual seat next to Arisa.

"She likes me," he told a random bystander, who just happened to be Marius.

Fitz snorted and rolled his eyes at his fellow Slytherin. "Right mate. Right."
