There was a sudden knock at Soul's apartment door. Soul groaned in his bedroom. He looked up from his pillow to look at his alarm clock to see what time it was.

"TWO O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!" Soul was angry.

He got out of bed with invisible smoke coming out of his nose and ears.

"Blair!. . . Blair!" Soul examined the rooms. "Where did that cat go now?!"

Another knock at the door, but this time more faint.

"Who would be up at this time?" Soul scratched his head and wiped his eyes. He let out a long yawn. He finally got to the door. "Who is it?"

No reply, but he heard streams of cries.

"Hey, are you okay?" He asked before even seeing who stood there.

Soul unlocked the door and let the poor soul in. He still couldn't tell who or what it was. It was wearing some sort of cloak.

"Are alright?"

Still no reply.

"If you want me to help you you need to talk to me."

". . .I need to go to the hospital," it mumbled.

"What? I can't hear you. You're mumbling."

"Soul." It raised the cloak over it's head showing it's head and face.

"Maka?"

"I'm sorry, I know you want to talk, but I need someone to take me to the hospital. No one would answer their phones, so I had to come here."

Soul noticed her eyes were red and puffy, her nose was also red, and she was holding tissues. She had obviously been crying for awhile.

"What's wrong?"

"I think I'm in labor!" She cried.

"What! You're only 30 weeks along! It's too early!"

"I know! I need to get there. Please can you help me?" She cried.

"Yeah, of course. Um, the car's downstairs!"

Soul grabbed his coat and rushed Maka to the hospital.

"Hi, uh, we called in a few minutes ago," Soul said to the lady behind the counter.

"What's the name?" Rain, the nurse, asked.

"Albarn. Evans," Maka said keeping steady breaths.

"Alright, right this way," Rain said.

"I'm sorry sir, but you can't go any further until further notice," Nurse Rose said stopping Soul with her hands to his chest.

"But-"

"It's okay," Maka said to Nurse Rose.

Nurse Rose nodded and let Soul continue on with Maka.

Hours later Maka finally persuaded Soul to call Tsubaki and the rest of the gang and get them to come to the hospital.

"Tsubaki."

"Soul?"

"Maka's in labor and I left her in the room alone to call you. Can come down here? Can you also call everyone else, I need to get back in there."

"Sure, we'll be there soon."

"I called Tsubaki and she said she would call everyone and get them down here."

Maka nodded her head. She was in too much pain to speak. She was up on her feet and walking around.

"What are you doing up?" Soul ran to Maka to hold her up.

"The bed was uncomfortable, I couldn't just sit there when I'm already in pain."

Soul walked her to the bed and sat her down.

"I don't care if it's uncomfortable Stein and Doctor Itsu said stay in bed. That means stay in bed."

"I can't," Maka cried. She sat down in the bed and brought the cover over her weak legs.

"Too bad."

Stein and Doctor Itsu walked in the room.

"I thought I told you to stay in bed," Stein said.

Maka shrugged her shoulders and smiled.

"Anyway, it's time for the epidural," Doctor Itsu said walking to Maka.

"What's that?" Soul asked as he scratched his head.

"It's like a pain reliever," Soul smiled with relief, "except it's a shot and it's injected into the spine," Stein said so calmly.

BANG! Soul fell to the floor.

"SOUL!" Maka screamed.

"He's fine, just fainted," Stein said.

When Soul woke up they were just about ready to give Maka the epidural.

"Okay Maka, you're going to feel some pressure," Doctor Itsu said.

"Just breathe," Stein said.

Soul slowly got to his feet and walked over to the other side of the bed that Maka was facing. Maka was laying on her side with her bare back to the doctors and her crying face to the windows.

"Maka. . ."

"Soul," Maka cried as she tried to wipe the tears from her face.

Soul noticed Maka's hands were clenched tightly together between the thin hospital sheets. Soul grabbed Maka's hands in his and squeezed.

"I'm here, you can hold on to me now."

"No." Maka took her hands back. "I don't want to hurt you."

Soul smiled and took Maka's hands in his again.

"I've hurt you more than you could ever hurt me right now."

Maka's eyes were tightly clenched, unable to see.

"Maka, you can open your eyes. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to disappear."

Maka cautiously opened her eyes and saw into Soul's blood red ones. She smiled.

"You're going to feel pressure, but only for a second," Doctor Itsu said pushing the needle deeper into Maka's spine.

Maka's eyes clenched together again as the pain creeped throughout her body. She tried not to squeeze her hands so Soul wouldn't hurt, but he squeezed her hands first, which made her squeeze harder. Their hands were entangled, they felt like they never had to let go.

"Alright, it shouldn't be too much longer," Doctor Itsu said.

"You should probably let her rest for a bit," Stein said.

Soul nodded and followed them out, shutting the door gently behind him.

"Hey, how's Maka?!" Black Star asked jumping out of his seat.

"Ssh! Black Star this is a hospital," Tsubaki said.

"How is Maka doing?" Kid asked.

"She's resting, Stein and Itsu jut gave her an epidural." He shook at the thought.

"You could probably sleep too," Liz said.

"Yeah, I don't think so."

"Why?" Patti asked.

"It's just. . .I can't. . .I don't know-"

"Spit it out already!" Black Star said.

"I can't believe Maka and I are going to be parents in a few hours."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Ring! Ring! Soul's phone rang in his pocket.

"Hello?"

"Death Scythe, I need you in town on Baker Street. There's a pre-kishin there and I need you to take care of it," Lord Death said.

"Sir, I can't right now Maka is-"

"No attitude Death Scythe, I need you there now! It shouldn't take longer than an hour."

Soul looked from the screen of his phone to Maka's hospital room.

"Okay, I'll be there."

Soul hung up and stuffed the phone back into his pocket.

"Soul?" Tsubaki said.

"Tsubaki, where are Blair and Spirit? They should be here too."

"Okay I'll call him, but Soul where are you going?"

"I have to go on a mission."

"What? Right now!"

"Yes, Lord Death's orders."

"But Maka-"

"I know! Look, will you just stay with her until I get back? It shouldn't be longer than an hour."

"I guess, but Soul-"

"I'll be back. . .I promise." Soul walked into the elevator and pushed the lobby button.

Tsubaki sighed and shook her head.

"WHERE'S MY BABY, MAKA!"

"I think Spirit has arrived," Kid said.

"Meow."

"And Blair," Liz said.

"She's in the room over there-" Tsubaki began.

Spirit began running to the door.

Tsubaki slid in front of the door to block his way.

"No you can't go in there, she's resting."

Spirit peered through the room's window. He saw Maka sleeping peacefully.

". . .Ah. . .my little girl. Wait a minute!" Spirit searched the room with his eyes through the window. "Where's Soul Eater?!"

"Lord Death gave him a mission at the last second, but he said he would be back in less than an hour."

"Meow. . ."

"Where are you you son of a bitch!?" Soul shouted into the alleyway.

"My mother was a very nice woman!" The figure shouted back.

"Eita?"

"Are you surprised?"

"Not really."

"Didn't think you would be."

"So, you're the pre-kishin I'm suppose to 'take care of'?"

"Yep."

"When?"

"Little while after we met up again."

"What happened to you?"

"I'm not sure. I don't have enough of a soul left to figure it out."

"Well, I guess I'll just have to kill you instead."

"Hit me with your best shot!"

"Let's do this!" Blades shot out from every direction of Soul.

Soul wiped the blood from his mouth and transformed completely back into human form. He'd done it. He'd killed Eita. He wiped the dirt from his clothes and looked at his watch.

"God Damn it! Damn it! DAMN IT!" Soul started running back to the hospital.

When he got there he was covered in sweat and dirt. It was quiet, too quiet. Where was everyone?

"Tsubaki? Black Star? Kid? Where is everybody?"

Soul wandered the corridors of the hospital until he found himself feet away from Tsubaki.

"Tsubaki, I'm back!"

"Soul."

Tsubaki's face was buried in her knees as she sat on the ground.

"How's Maka?"

Tsubaki looked up from her knees and got to her feet.

"Black Star's waiting outside for me. I was waiting for you to get back."

"Why did everybody leave?"

Tsubaki walked over to Soul. He couldn't see her clearly until now, but Tsubaki's face was completely red.

"Soul um. . .I'm sorry, but I can't do this," Tsubaki cried.

"Tsubaki, what's wrong?"

"Soul," Tsubaki cried. "Maka didn't make it."

"What?"

"It happened a little while after you left," she cried. "She was at ten centimeters and was ready to push, but something was wrong. The babies wouldn't come out, I think Stein and Doctor Itsu said they were facing the wrong way. They went into surgery, but-"

Before she could say anymore Soul crashed through the doors behind her; the operation room.

It was a dark and empty room, except on table with a white cloth covering something.

Soul walked over to the table slowly. His eyes were watered and he was ready to punch the wall. He got to the cold metal table and lifted the white cover. He looked away immediately, covering his eyes. He sank to the floor with sorrow filling his heart and every inch of his body. He smacked his fists against the hard floor. He didn't want to cry, he didn't want to show that he was sensitive, but he couldn't hold it back any longer. Tears began to fill his eyes and fall to the floor.

He set his hands back on the floor after he wiped the tears away. He felt some sort of paper under his palm and looked down at it. It couldn't quite make out what it said, so he picked it up with his hand and brought it to his face.

It said:

Maka Albarn, time of death 5:27 am

Massive Hemorrhaging

Due to complications babies could not be saved

Soul crumpled the paper and tossed it to the trash can; he missed. Soul broke down crying once again.
