"Stein!"
Spirit turned his head to the bedroom window.
"Oh. My. God."
Stein and Spirit ran through the bedroom door.
"What happened?" Spirit asked.
Spirit walked to Maka, but she immediately tried pulling away.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
Maka shook with fear. She crammed herself against the very edge of the bed.
"What's going on?" Stein asked Soul.
"She woke up, but she doesn't remember me, or you guys."
"Does she remember the others?" Spirit asked.
"I don't know. She does remember Kid; I'm not sure why?"
"Call him, immediately! There's a chance he might know!" Stein demanded Soul.
Soul ripped his phone out of his pocket and quickly dialed Kid's number.
"Soul."
"Kid!"
"Maka, right?"
"How did you know?"
"I'll tell you when I get there. You're at Stein's right?"
"Yeah."
"Be there in five," Kid said before hanging up the phone.
"Kid!" Maka shouted.
Kid and the others looked through the bedroom window.
"Help me, Kid!"
Kid started to open the door when Soul grabbed his arm.
"Why does she only remember you?"
"I'm not sure yet, but I promise I'll help get her back. Right now, I need to go see what she does know."
Soul nodded and released Kid's arm.
Kid grabbed hold of the door handle and rotated it. The door slowly creaked open. Maka turned in head, in fear of who or what she would she next.
"Kid. . ." Maka said with tears rolling down her cheeks. "I'm so happy you're here."
She tried to pick herself up off the bed, but Kid pushed her back down.
"No, Maka. You just woke up, save your strength."
"But I was so scared. I don't know anyone here. I thought you weren't going to come save me."
"I would never leave a friend in need, but Maka. Do you remember anyone or anything else, other than me?"
"Why?"
"I need to know!" Kid yelled, startling Maka.
Maka pulled away from Kid.
"I'm sorry, Maka, but if you remember anything else I need to know so I can help you remember the rest."
Maka rubbed her stomach, she searched her mind for memories. Her memories, it was like they were locked away in a secret place inside her mind that no one could reach. Finally, Maka's eyelids rose, revealing Maka's emerald green eyes.
"Except for you, all I remember is going to some party before school started and ending the night having sex with some guy. I don't remember who, but I'm pretty sure that night led to where I am now." She rubbed her stomach again.
"Well, that's a start. Except, it surprises me that you don't remember the guy from that night."
"Why, he was just random guy, wasn't he?"
"No, unfortunately. Do you see the guy with the screw in his head?" Kid asked, pointing at Stein through the window.
"Yes, but please god tell me he isn't-"
"Oh god no! He's your doctor. He's also a teacher at the school you used to go to. DWMA, remember?"
"I guess I kind of remember school. It's for weapons and meisters, correct?"
"Good, this is good! You're remembering! The red head," Kid pointed to Spirit, "he's your dad, but you call him Papa. I really don't blame you for being scared of him, he's a little creepy."
"He looks the part. But, who is he?" Maka pointed to Soul. "The one with the snow white hair and the blood red eyes."
Kid smiled. "Do you remember?"
"No, but I get this weird feeling when he's around or when I see him. Who is he?"
"He's the guy at the party from your memory. Well, somewhat of a memory."
"Really?"
Kid smiled and nodded his head. Maka looked from Kid to Soul and smiled.
"His name is Soul. He's your weapon, and you're his meister."
"Isn't it against the rules to be with your partner at DWMA?"
"How did you know that?"
"I don't know, it just came out."
"This is good, you're remembering."
Maka smiled.
"Wait, do you remember before, when we were in your. . .consciousness?"
"Yes."
"Well, I showed you pictures of your friends and family and you ended up remembering."
"So?"
"So, maybe if we bring in everyone that's important to you, you might remember."
"Maybe."
"Soul!" Kid shouted.
Soul ran through the door, but ended up falling to the floor.
"Call everyone, when they get here come in."
"Everyone's here now, Kid," Soul said. "What do we do now?"
"Get everyone in here, including Stein, Spirit, and you."
"Okay?"
Soul opened the door and let everyone inside the room.
"Maka!" Patti screamed
"Oh my god!" Liz yelled.
"I'm right here!" Black Star shouted.
"Not you, idiot!" Liz shouted.
"Are you okay?" Tsubaki asked.
Maka looked at Kid with worried eyes.
"Guys, hold off," Soul said, stepping in between the group and Maka.
"Why?" Black Star asked.
"She's lost her memories, or at least some of them. She remembers me, but that's about it."
"Why you? Wouldn't she remember Spirit, or even her own. . .Soul before she remembered you?" Liz asked.
"I can explain that."
"Do so," Black Star said.
"While Maka was still under I used astral projection to get inside her soul, or consciousness."
"What's astral projection?" Tsubaki asked.
"You see Tsubaki, reapers, like Kid, have certain abilities," Stein said in his speech giving voice.
"Abilities?" Soul said, turning his head to face Stein.
"Yes, and astral projection is one of few," Kid said. "At least until I get higher leveled."
"Anyway, how did you know that Maka was out for the count?" Black Star asked.
". . .You could say I have this weird sixth sense type of thing. When people that are close to me get hurt or are in trouble I can just sense it. Therefore, I astral projected to Maka."
"Now that everything is out, what are we doing here?" Liz asked.
"I think all of you being here at the same time can help Maka get her memories back."
"How?" Spirit asked.
"I'm not sure, but it worked when we were inside her mind."
"Wait, you had to do this before?" Soul asked.
"Yes, inside she slowly lost her memories and once she regained it all she woke up."
"So, we do what you did before," Liz said.
"Yes."
"Alright," Tsubaki said.
"I'm in," Liz said, which soon followed Patti's scream of agreement.
"If it means saving Maka, I'm in," Soul said.
"Me too," Spirit said. "I'm her father."
"I'm her doctor."
"I guess if everyone else is cool with it; I'm game," Black Star said.
Maka smiled at all of them. Her eyes rolled over each of their faces, tears ran down her face onto the clothes Stein had provided.
"What's wrong?" Tsubaki asked.
"Nothing's wrong. . .Tsubaki."
"Wait, what!" Tsubaki yelled. "You remember me?"
Everyone's eyes went wide with wonder.
"I don't know how, it just hit me. I remember all of you." She named the off in the order of how they were standing. "Tsubaki, my best friend, Black Star an annoying friend. Liz and Patti, the beloved sisters. Papa," Maka smiled," Do I even have to say anything about you? Stein, the teacher and my doctor." Maka raised her head to look at Kid. "Kid, a very caring friend." Maka smiled again as he eyes landed on Soul's blood red eyes. "Soul," a tear ran down her cheek, "I love him."
Soul smiled, "I love you too."
He walked to the bed and sat next to her on the mattress. He wrapped his arms around her body.
"Alright, get a room," Liz said, followed by a giggle.
"What do we do now?" Tsubaki asked.
"Well, I still find it strange that Maka was unharmed before and after the fall," Stein said.
"Let it go, Stein," Spirit said.
"No!" Kid shouted.
"What?" Tsubaki asked.
"Maka, you remember how I told you about the Function?"
"Yes, why?"
"The Function?" Liz said.
"What's the Function?" Black Star asked.
"More like who," Stein said.
"The Function is a group-"
"Never mind who they are, we can explain them later. I thought the Function was behind all of this, but I don't know anymore."
"Why did you change your mind?" Soul asked.
"I have a hard time believing that even if they had the power to give and take memories, why would they restore her memory? They love to screw with people's lives, but restoring her memory would restore the balance in our lives."
"Kid has a point," Stein said.
"So, who else is there to suspect?" Maka asked.
Kid looked at Stein, who was cranking the screw in his head.
"Any thoughts?" Kid asked him.
"Maka last night, when you coughed into your glove. Do you remember how we didn't know what it was at the time?"
"Yes, but what does this have to do with what we're talking about?"
"It was black blood," Stein said.
"What?" Soul said, immediately worried. "How can that be?"
"We aren't sure," Spirit said.
"I bet it has something to do with why you fell and why you fell into a coma. It probably even has something to do with the twins," Kid said, looking from Maka to Soul.
"Soul," Maka cried.
"It's okay, we'll figure it out. I promise."
