Chapter 12: Alone at Last Part I

"No dad, I'm not dead!" Bella said flinching slightly at the word, with her grandmothers death so fresh; I knew those words were tough to say. I smiled somberly as she glanced my way, and gently patted her back reassuringly. I gently moved a wet wave out of her face, behind her ear. She was on the phone with her dad, she had been talking to him for what felt like hours, but in reality it was just a few minutes; trying to reassure him that she was okay.

I knew she needed to be on the phone with her dad right now, but the selfish part of me wanted her attention. He was really concerned. I didn't blame him, Bella had scared the shit out of all of us. I called off the search with the guys, they were all relieved that she was okay. I also told them they could open shop up a little later tomorrow, since they helped with the search. I also informed them that I would be in until late afternoon.

"You're turning fucking soft on us, Jake." Paul commented once I announced the news about opening the shop later.

"Whatever, Paul." I grumbled.

"See, fucking soft. No witty reply?"

"Paul, I'll talk to you later."

"For fuck's sake Jake!"

"What?"

"You're with her aren't you?"

I said nothing.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do."

"Bye asshole," I said hanging up.

Angela and Jessica had squealed with glee, and told me they were on there way immediately. Dickward, well he had been just that a total dick about everything. He was most likely pissed he didn't find her himself, that little pansy could kiss my ass for all I cared.

"Yes I'm sure, if I was dead do you think I'd be talking to you right now?" I couldn't help but laugh, at her sarcasm toward him, as I sat on the chair in her room, continuing to dry off with the towel she provided me with.

"I have bad news, though dad." She said and paused shortly. "No! Nothing like that-its grandmother she passed away. I know, I kind of ran off when I heard about it, I was so sad, and furious. I guess I should have told Angela and Jessica about it, but I couldn't think about anything except for the hurt and pain. We both did, still do. Of course she knew you loved her! She was like a second mom you know? She was so good to us, well when- you know. She will always be apart of me, apart of us." A few tears leaked out of Bella's eyes, and I moved from the comfy spot on the chair to wipe them from her face. She glared at me at first but mumbled a silent thank you.

"Yes, I'll be alright, Angela and Jessica should be here in a few. Really dad I'm okay, someone helped me realize she's in a much better place now." She paused looking at me, I blew on my nails in a cocky fashion and she rolled her eyes. "I'm going to go see her tomorrow. Can we discuss all that tomorrow? Please? I'm really tired. Okay. Love you too. I will, I will. Bye." She threw the phone onto her bed, and sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"You okay?" I asked.

She nodded. "Okay as can be expected right now, I guess."

"He was really worried, huh?"

She rolled her eyes, looking at me. I immediately got lost in those chocolate brown pools. I never thought I would see again. "Yes! He was on his way here, thank God I called when I did. He already arranged a search party for me, complete with his entire police team, dogs, the whole nine, just to find me." She chuckled a bit. "That's my dad." A roll of thunder sounded, making Bella jump slightly.

"He sounds awesome." I responded.

She smiled. "He is, but it's a good thing he didn't travel here, it looks like its about to storm," She said looking out of the window. "Well Mr. Black, looks like you should be getting home."

"Why?" I said pouting. "Are you really going to make me drive home in the storm?"

"Its getting late and I'm tired, plus I need to get out of these wet clothes and take a shower. You better leave before the storm gets too bad."

"Ooohhh can I watch?"

She glared at me.

"I'm just kidding, Bells."

"Do you see me laughing?"

"No but you want to."

"I do not!"

She tried to keep a straight face as long as she could, but, we both ended up laughing together.

Her laughter died down, and her mood shifted suddenly.

"How can I laugh with her being gone?"

My voice turned soft. "She wants you to be happy, you know."

"I know, I know. It just feels unfair, somehow. Laughing feels good, it helps." She said quietly. "I just want to cry and curl in a ball, but when I laugh, I feel better. But I know she wants me happy, so I need to live on and honor her."

"Well I guess you better keep me around then, because I know how to keep you laughing."

She rolled her eyes. "Forever cocky, huh?"

I shrugged. I tried to turn the conversation so we didn't dwell on the sadness, I wanted to see Bella's smile.

"So Bells, are you really going to make me drive in this thunderstorm, in the middle of the night?"

She bit her lip, concentrating hard, she went to the window, and looked outside again. "Fine," She said through clenched teeth. "You can stay, only because of the storm."

I grinned, my mind wondering to dirty places, my eyes sparkling with glee and mischief.

"Don't get too excited Mr. Black, you're sleeping on the couch." She grinned.

My smile instantly faded. "The couch?" I rasped.

"Yes. The couch, what did you think, I was going to let you sleep in my bed?"

"Well it would have been a nice gesture." I smiled.

"Nice try. Anyway, the other bathroom is down the hall to the right, if you want to have a shower. I have some old pajama pants that used to belong to my dad-let me see if I can find them." She rumbled through her things for a moment, which didn't take long because everything was so neat, clean, and organized. She located the pants immediately. "They might be a little small-"

"Yeah because I have a big-"

"Mr. Black!" She interrupted before I could say something dirty, her cheeks warming instantaneously.

"I was gonna say butt, are you thinking dirty, Bella?"

She rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "Anyway, I'm sure you can manage for tonight. I don't have a shirt, that's big enough to fit you. Unless you wanna try to squeeze in one of mine." She smirked.

"No, that's okay, I usually go commando anyway, at night."

She stopped in her tracks, gulped, before her cheeks flushed. God that flush was so fucking sexy, I never got tired of it. "Um- okay, but there will be no commando here buddy, understand?"

"Yes ma'am." I said saluting her.

"Don't mock me, and maybe you can let your shirt air dry, and then put it back on later."

"Sure, sure." I thought for a moment. "How come I can't use your bathroom? You afraid of a little temptation? After all, I did use your bathroom before, remember?"

She sighed heavily. "How could I forget, and I'm going to use my own bathroom, Jacob." She groaned.

"How about we use the same bathroom, matter of fact how about we save on the water bill, and take a shower together."

"No way in hell."

"Aw come on Bells, lighten up."

She folded her arms across her chest, her lips pursed.

"Fine." I smiled.

"Good." She said relaxing. "There are fresh towels and washcloths in the linen closet. Everything you need should be in the bathroom, soap, shampoo, the whole nine."

"I'm going to smell like a chick."

"You should be used to it by now, Mr. Black."

I rolled my eyes.

"And you're not going to smell like some random chick, you're lucky enough to be smelling like me, and I happen to think I smell fantastic." She smiled, wiggling her eyebrows teasingly. "Consider yourself very lucky."

"No arguments there."

"Okay well, you can go now," She said dismissing me from her room, and slamming the door in my face.

"Rude!" I said.

I went to collect washcloths, in the linen closet right where Bella said they would be. To my dismay they didn't have any normal colored washcloths, they were all varying shades of pink, and purple. I huffed, they must have put Bella on washcloth buying duty. I found the manliest color purple I could, and headed into the shower.

Turning on the water to the shower was so out of the norm for me, Rosa usually did this type of thing. So when I stepped into the freezing water, I nearly shouted. After a very uncomfortable few minutes, of adjusting the water, it finally heated up. It wasn't as hot as I usually liked my showers but it would have to do. I didn't see how anybody could take a warm shower, it just blew my fucking mind.

There were a bunch of soaps, shampoo's, conditioners, and sponges, on the shower wall. I shook my head, "Chicks." I mumbled.

I smelled them all until I found Bella's honey-vanilla scented soap, and her strawberry scented shampoo. It was a little weird, using products that smelled so girly, but smelling like her would be the closet thing to intimacy I could get.

My prized possession perked instantly when I thought of Bella in the shower. As much as I didn't want to play with him, I was going to have to-to get him to go back down, because he wasn't moving. I tried to talk to him, and reason with him, but he wasn't going away. I stroked my gold mine gently, until I felt a very intense release. Only being in the company with Bella a few hours, without her touching me, and I'm having mind blowing orgasms, when random fucks barely got me off. Crazy.

I could have sworn I heard the door open, a draft crept into the bathroom, causing goosebumps to break out on my skin, and then a soft bump as it closed, taking the cold air with it.

"Bella?" I called, but of course she didn't say anything. "Babe, if you want to sneak a peak all you had to do was ask." I said, just in case she was in here with me. Again no answer. I peaked around the curtain to see, but no one was there.

Hmm. Did I imagine it? I thought scratching my head.

I finished my shower, reluctantly after the water started to get too cold. I switched off the water, and used one of Bella's fluffy towels to dry off. I smiled when I noticed a blue unopened toothbrush sitting on the counter next to my wet shirt. "Thanks, Bella." I whispered. So she had been in here, I smiled.
