After a short ride in a carriage the four of us find ourselves in front of Watson Cafe gazing at three ropes that are hanging from its sign. Lord Randall, the Commissioner of Scotland Yard, was currently having a hissy fit over the incident of people being hung upside down in public with nothing but their underwear on and hadn't notice Ciel yet. Kato and I are waiting behind the earl and his butler, bored out of our minds waiting for the plot to get more interesting. I am trying to stifle a yawn when my ears pick up the words " and that bloody brat." A smirk crosses my face as I remember how Ciel taunts Randall.
The young earl finally pipes into the conversation with, " Do forgive me for being a brat." The look of surprise on Randall's face at being caught whining about Ciel, by the little lord himself no less, is priceless.
I am trying to pay attention to the conversation between the boy and man when I feel a stabbing pain under my right boob. Dear lord, I think part of the ribbing of the corset is trying to poke me to death.I wiggle to reposition the stupid piece of clothing but it just hurts more, making me hiss in pain.
"Sis? You alright?" Kato asks giving me a worried look.
"Corset. Pain. Killing. Me." I huff out, gritting my teeth against the pain.
She shoots me a sympathetic look then turns back to the conversation going on in front of us. By focusing on Lord Randall's large, bushy mustache I am able to ignore the pain for a few more seconds before it becomes unbearable. Screw propriety! I reach up and manually reposition the darned clothing with my hands and try to loosen it a bit. It must look like I am groping myself because Abberline, who had been standing beside Randall, is blushing slightly and giving me a weird look. I grin and give him a wink causing him to quickly look away and for his blush to darken. Even in the 1800s men are perverts.
Snickering, I tune back into what is being said only to catch the tail end of it. Man that sucks!
"Come along then, you three."
As we turn to walk away I hear Abberline ask the commissioner about Ciel. It is kind of weird how everything is following the storyline so closely, but I suppose that is a good thing, it means we haven't messed anything up too much. Still, it feels a little off. I feel a hand press down on my shoulder, "Don't get too used to it duckie." Stupid author meddling with things. Screw you whatever your name is!
We turn and begin walking down Redfern Alley. The alley is much dirtier than the main street that we were previously on. Muck and garbage litter the gutter and a horrible stench of decaying animals permeates the air. Out of the corner of my eye I see Kato quickly bring her hand over her mouth and nose to try and block out the smell. Sebastian and Ciel who are still walking in front of us, pretentious pricks, hardly seemed affected by the filth surrounding us. A few ragged men line the streets in various states of drunkenness. One man in ripped and incredibly dirty clothes lays sprawled on the ground clutching an empty bottle, while Sebastian had stepped over him carelessly, I carefully scuttle around the man. This has got to be one of the most disgusting roads that I have ever been on . I notice a rat gnawing on some unintelligible piece of trash and feel my hair stand on end as it turns it's beady black eyes toward me.
The four of us stop in front of an unmarked door. "Young master, we have arrived." Wait a second, this is Lau's opium den? He didn't strike me as the kind of guy to have an establishment in such a dank and dirty place, he had seemed so much cleaner in the manga and anime.
Sebastian carefully pushes the grungy door open. When he withdraws his hand there is a greasy brown smudge left behind on his glove that he eyes with contempt. Ha! Karma.
"Are you sure this is it, Sebastian?"
"Yes, my lord."
With a glance over his shoulder Ciel comments as we begin trekking down the stairs, "You two have been awfully silent since we left the coffee house."
I give a little grunt in reply, because the corset paired with the steps is making it hard to breath. Kato nudges me in the ribs and gives me a playful grin.
"We're waiting." My sister says, expanding my brief grunt.
Ciel stops and turns to face us with a suspicious look, "Waiting for what?"
With a wolfish grin I say between puffs of breath, "For the. Fun. To begin."
"What?"
Instead of replying I continue walking. With a sudden burst of energy Kato runs past me giggling. "Isn't this a beautiful stairwell sis?"
I grin and shake my head at her antics. "You know you are going to hurt-" As soon as I begin to say it she places her foot on a slick step. Her feet slip out from underneath her and she lands with a painful thud. "-yourself." I rush down to her and haul her to her feet. "I won't say I told you so."
She groans and rubs the back of her head. "Would you believe me if I told you falling hurts Kisa?"
"I just may. Is anything broken?"
"No, just a bruised ego and butt."
"Do watch your step my lord." Sebastian tells the brat. Ciel gives us a smug smile as he goes past us.
I roll my eyes and link arms with my sister. With a flourish of my hand and little dip of my head, I say as grandly as possible, "Shall we?"
Kato smiles. "We shall."
Shortly after K's little slip we reached the bottom of the stairs where we are met by another door. Only this door is much prettier that the last. Ah-ha! This is much more Lau like. It is a rich, vibrant red that has golden geometric designs decorating it.
As soon as we step through the doorway I slap my hands over Kato's and Ciel's eyes. Dear lord! The inside of Lau's lair is nothing like Toboso's manga. Some of the people are sparsely clothed and are doing naughty things on dirty pillows. Scantily clad women attend men reclining on blankets and pillows as they ride out their opium highs. The air down here is thick with sickly sweet smoke from the drugs. I gag on a puff of the smoke that floats into my face.
"Unhand me woman!" Ciel tries to pry my hand away from his face, but thankfully, I am stronger than he is.
"Kisa! Let go, I wanna see!"
"Like hell I will. Both of you are too young to be seeing any of this."
"I'm sure the master has seen far worse than this."
I shoot Sebastian a glare, "that very well may be, but while I'm around, for my own sake of mind, I am going to try to preserve what is left of his innocence. Now, find Lau."
"As you wish." he says with a smirk.
I follow the demon and drag Ciel and Kato along with my hands still clasped firmly over their eyes. Both of them have stopped trying to fight me and were busy grumbling about how mean I am. We go through yet another doorway where I am met with the sight of Lau covered in women.
I think I'll just stop here for now. Mwahahaha. I hope all of you are enjoying the story!
