Chapter 19- The Fear is Gone
When Sookie lost consciousness, Eric turned to the queen who was on her knees screaming in pain, which stopped as soon as Sookie hit the floor.
"My queen! Are you alright?" asked André alarmed by the queen's distress.
"This little cunt tried to enter my mind!"
Eric looked at his maker and nodded silently. Their plan had worked; the queen was blaming her for the intrusion. He suggested to the queen that it would be wise to put her in a cell, which she did in a heartbeat. He was having so much fun manipulating her and this was going to be a great revenge for her mind game. He did not appreciate how Sookie reacted to the forced kiss but he had little choice in the matter. Sophie-Anne was his queen and he had to keep playing the game so she wouldn't suspect what was coming to her.
When they threw Sookie in her cell, Eric made sure it was secured. He knew she wouldn't forgive him for the lies and would probably have a hard time accepting that he did all of this for her but he was willing to take the risk to keep her safe. There was nothing more important to him than to keep her safe.
He went back to his room where Godric followed him. As soon as the door was closed, Godric hugged his child.
"Do not worry Eric; she will forgive you in time. For now, you must get to her before it is too late. I released the virus when we were leaving the lab. It shouldn't be long before it makes it way up here."
Eric thanked his maker. He knew Sookie was in danger the moment he saw the queen. His only chance of leaving with Sookie was to destroy the facility. Never would Sophie-Anne agree to let go of her newfound pet. A pet that was not only beautiful and fierce but she was a telepath.
Godric had explained to Eric that destroying the mansion was not only necessary for Sookie but for human kind. In his days spent there, he had discovered that the queen had allowed scientists to experiment on both humans and vampires. At first, it had been to find a cure but as time passed, it became clear that she was creating weapons. Biochemical weapons that could kill anything and everything in her path. Her reasons were unknown to them but one thing was sure to Godric, she had to be stopped. Therefore, they had agreed that soon after the interrogation Sookie conducted, Godric would release the virus amongst the scientists and ensure the destruction of the lab. They had to make sure that the queen would not suspect them if she came out alive. She would contact them and without knowing, tell them where the new lab for her experiments would be located for them to destroy it again.
He thanked his maker for his help and explained to him where the community was so Godric could join them later. He then proceeded to the hallway that was completely empty. He heard screams coming from the basement and he knew the virus was doing was it was meant to do. He vampire ran to the stairs when he came face to face with André.
"Where are you going?" he asked before Eric could run past him.
"I need to feed," Eric indicated with a growl.
"Are you sure you were not about to go see your pet?"
Eric stared at him.
"You know, the queen wants Sookie for herself. Surely Sookie tried to poison her mind but the queen is willing to look pass the insubordinance."
"As I said Andre, I am going to feed unless I have to ask permission for it?"
They were interrupted by moans coming from the hallway below them. André looked horrified for a split second before going back to his stern look.
"I will let the queen know of your where abouts. Stay close Northman."
Eric rushed to the main room where he thought the queen was. As he watched André walking towards the giant door, a group of corpses entered the main floor and was now separating them. André looked back before running at vampire speed and closing the doors behind him. Eric looked at the dead to evaluate the best plan to get to Sookie. André had made it clear by closing the doors he did not want Eric to follow him. Sookie was located in the basement, in a cell where she would be safe for a while. Even if the corpses could get to her, the bars would stop them. Unfortunately, he would have to go through the lab to get to her and since the lab was ground zero according to Godric, he would have a couple corpses to kill on his way, which did not bother him. He knew he would do anything for her.
The corpses had proceeded towards him at a slow pace. They were all wearing lab coats. One was missing half its face while the others had broken bones or flesh dangling from their body. Matching their pace, Eric headed in their direction. He did not have his sword but it did not stop him from ripping one corpse's arm off as he hit another with it. He pushed a third one into the wall while he crushed the last one's skull with his foot. He was standing in the middle of them when he heard a helicopter on top of the mansion. He guessed it was for the queen although he would never be sure. He took the stairs to the basement. It was dark and had only one light bulb lazily tangling down, rocking back and forth as a light source. He heard moans and growling and knew the place was already infested with more corpses. As he plowed through them, he reached the lab's main door, which was wide open. As he stepped inside, he noticed a large container at the back of the room, which was still shut off. He could hear the loud banging coming from the inside and as its occupants roaring in anger. Eric made his way to the next hallway as he passed the lab. He had no interest in knowing what exactly was in that container. He had enough work to do with the corpses around him. When he reached the hallway, he stopped at its entrance to evaluate it. It seemed to be empty and quiet which was odd in his opinion. The door behind him closed with a loud noise as the hallway was lit up with a red light. The alarm started ringing and every window of the hallway shut down. He could hear a woman's voice with a heavy British accent instructing everyone to remain calm and to stay where they were as the lab had been breached. He chuckled at the instructions meant to reassure people when in reality were probably causing panic. Whoever was still alive in the compound, wouldn't be for a very long.
He heard a noise coming from the lab behind the door. Something was pounding and crashing things. He then looked up the door's archway hearing some kind of hissing. Eric was staring at a dead scientist who had failed to die like all the corpses. He was standing on the wall like a spider watching its prey. His neck was completely twisted allowing him to be face to face with him. His tongue came out in a hiss, as it was ready to pounce on Eric who didn't wait for him and grabbed it by its neck breaking it in half. The thing fell off the wall at his feet. Eric looked at it closely having never seen such creature. This scientist was more than just a corpse walking around without a goal. Screams at the end of the hall took him out of his examination and he proceeded to run towards it. He knew Sookie was close, he could feel her in the distance, and she was terrified. He did not recognize the scream as being hers but instead sounded childish like. He looked at the door beside him where he pinned point was where the screams were coming from. He took a minute to assess the situation. He did not have much time and since a locked door was separating him from the noise, it would take him precious minutes to investigate the screams. Meanwhile Sookie was in her cell and she needed him.
He decided it would be best to not open the door and ran to the cellblock. He reached a giant metal door, which had been locked most likely by the computer instructing everyone to stay calm. He tried to open it without much success. Sookie was so close he could feel it. He punched the door out of frustration but didn't had much time to think about it, he heard a growl behind him. As he turned around, down the hallway at the lab door where he had just been was standing a giant four-legged blob of human flesh with two tiny narrow eyes focusing on him. Its mouth was huge and crowned with hundreds of sharp teeth. The creature clawed the wall beside it roaring at Eric. He recognized it as the roar that had come from the container earlier on. Eric wasn't sure what the best way to proceed was. This giant creature was taunting him and Eric knew it was ready to pounce at any time. As the creature started running at him clenching its teeth in the air, Eric took a fighting stance and waited for it to come closer, and closer, and closer. As the creature launched for him, Eric jumped above it and landed behind it. The creature didn't stop in time and hit the locked door that was separating Eric from Sookie. The door was only strong enough to not completely open at the beast's weight. Eric ran in the other direction. He knew he would have to get rid of it before he could go near Sookie. He reached the corner of the hallway and turned left. He wasn't about to risk being eaten alive by some weird creature and decided hiding was his best bet. He jumped to the ceiling, which was the suspended kind; the one you could move a tile to get to the plumbing. Once he was between the celling and the floor above him, he put the tile back in place and listened for the beast who was right under him. It was looking around unable to locate him. Luckily, screams coming from upstairs made the creature give up its search and made it run back to the lab to get to the stairs.
Eric waited a couple of minutes before getting out of his hiding place. He looked around and the way seemed to be clear. When he reached the door that was separating him from the cellblock, he noticed that the creature had manage to open it slightly, just enough for him to squeeze him.
He entered the cellblock carefully and listened for a clue of what was to come. He heard the growling and the moaning of some corpses and the slowed heartbeat of Sookie. She was quiet and unmoving. Excited that their plan had worked, Eric slowly walked to the group of corpses that were trying to grab Sookie between the bars. He snapped the head of one, broke another in two, and ripped the heart out of the other one. Covered in dark blood and wounds, he turned to face Sookie who had ran to the bars and was reaching for him.
"Eric! You came!"
He grabbed her hand and while crouching, he placed his head between two bars allowing them to be forehead to forehead.
"Sookie, I would never let anything happen to you." He closed his eyes and took her smell in which automatically made him relax and he silently thanked whoever was up there for their mercy as his Sookie was there with him.
She reached through the bars to take his face between her hands and looked at him in his eyes.
"I thought you had abandoned me, Eric."
He kissed her forehead and instructed her to stand back as he needed to open the door. It took him a couple times before he managed to rip the door off at its bolts and threw it on its side. As he entered the cell, Sookie jumped to his neck into a tight hug. He held her close to him, as he would never let her go again. After gathering his courage, he gently push her away, he putting his hand on her cheek.
"Sookie, all I did was to protect you."
She brought her finger to his lip indicating him to be silent and then slowly brought her lips to his. She slowly kissed him, her tongue begging for a dance. At first, he was stunned by her actions but it didn't take long for him to happily join her kiss as their tongues intertwine to the rhythm of her heartbeat. His hand was stroking her back bringing her as close to him as possible wanting more. She moaned to his embrace, for a brief moment they forgot, the chaos that was surrounding them.
REVIEWS please please please :)
I would also like to point out that Eric kissed the queen only once. My chapters are not following a linear timeline. Many times things that happen in one chapter straddles the next. I realize sometimes it's hard to follow especially if you have read the previous chapter a while ago so if you ever feel lost, I encourage you to read the previous chapter, it will help a lot.
Thank you to everyone who is sticking with me no matter one. I love you guys!
I would also like to thank Treewitch703 for all her help with the review of this fanfiction from chapter 1 to 4. I would also like to thank Gylene for correcting this one.
