Chapter 26 It's Something I Already Chase

A tall beautiful woman with long brown hair was attending to Sookie who was lying on a bed unconscious. It had been several hours since Sookie had been taken away from her world into the one she was currently resting in. The woman sat at her side and grabbed a goblet with a green liquid which she poured gently into Sookie's mouth ensuring she was not choking in the process. She had been doing so every fifteen minutes wishing every time that Sookie would open her eyes which she did not do until now. The woman's eyes were filled with tears of excitement as Sookie slowly opened her eyes and let her vision focus on her. She frowned not recognizing the brunette who seemed so happy to see her.

Sookie looked around the room and did not recognize it either. The walls were made out of rocks which seemed to glow yellow under the ray of sunshine coming from the balcony. The wind was gently rocking the silk curtains as the two doors were wide opened. She couldn't see outside but she could hear the birds singing and she could smell what summer once smelled like.

''Am I dead?'' she asked the woman who's laugh invaded the entire room with joy.

''Of course not!'' she giggled getting up and twirling in the room dancing to a none existing song

''Are you high?'' Sookie continued knowing she was being rude but didn't really care.

The woman continued to laugh as she danced alone. Sookie ignored her and removed the blanket that was over her body. She looked at her legs and wiggled her toes making sure everything was in working order. She felt surprisingly rested. She wondered how she had gotten in the bed in the first place. She couldn't really remember much other than the world had gone to shit and that she was a member of a little town where Bon Temps used to be. Somehow this place had seemed untouched by death. She scratched her head while trying to remember the past few days without much success. She felt she needed to be somewhere but wasn't sure where exactly.

The woman was still dancing singing ''la la las'' as an older man entered the room. She thought under normal circumstances she would have found the woman funny but Sookie wasn't able to feel happy or anything for that matter. The man was walking towards the bed as she swung her legs on the side of it. His posture was one of pride despite he was shorter than the rest of his entourage whom were all extremely tall and had followed him into the room. Sookie looked down at her body and her clothing. She was wearing a white flowy skirt and a white tank top. She was pretty sure that the clothing didn't belong to her but how it got on her body was going to remain a mystery to her.

'' Child, you are awake!'' the shorter man exclaimed grabbing Sookie's hand between his.

She didn't really know what to say so she stayed silent. His smile showed perfect teeth shining through. He had long white hair that reminded Sookie of silk. She stared at him more in confusion than curiosity. He didn't take long to see the confusion so he continued

''But where are my manners, I am Niall Brigant, Prince of Faery, '' he gestured to point around them '' and your great grand father.''

His bright blue eyes didn't break contact while Sookie was processing the information. She couldn't helped but wonder if she was supposed to take that information for face value. She was tempted to reply she was the queen of England but refrained from doing so.

''I am terribly sorry for your loss. Your grand mother was a wonderful woman.'' He continued without a pause

''I don't understand'' is all Sookie could manage to say.

''My son Fintan loved your grand mother very much.''

''So Fintan is my grand father?''

''Yes'' Niall stated. ''I am afraid he is no longer with us''

''I am sorry'' Sookie simply said not knowing who the man was

''He died saving your life Sookie'' Nial continued. ''You see, you were dying and while doing so, you managed to reach your spark which Fintan used to open the portal to save you. Whomever opens the portal rarely survives it''

Niall's tone was stern as the matter seemed more factual to him than emotional. Sookie wasn't sure what to ask next. She had just learned her grand father killed himself saving her, that she had some kind of spark and had no idea what it meant and what it entailed.

''Did you truly believe yourself to be human Sookie?''

She frowned at him and shrugged. Is that why everyone constantly asked her ''what she was''

'What am I then?''

''A fae''

''A what?''

''Fairy of course''

Sookie snorted and broke out laughing.

''A fairy? With wings and tights right?'' she said sarcastically before Niall stood up to walk to the door. She wasn't sure if she had offended him.

''You are tired, you must rest. Please stay in your room, I shall be back later'' he said while his entourage was exiting the room with him.

Sookie wasn't sure exactly what had just happened but in the spend of fifteen minutes, she had discovered something about her family her grand mother had never told her. She was sure Adele had her reasons not to speak of her grand father. She sighed heavily remembering she would never know now that her Gran had passed. She was taken away from her reverie by the loud noise of a hungry stomach. She couldn't remember when the last time she had eaten was but her body was telling her it was past due. She decided she would venture in the corridors despite her great grand father's instructions. What harm could that do? The door wasn't locked which reinforced her thoughts that it wasn't a big deal. Walking down the long and cold hallway, she finally reached an opening to a big room with a dinning room table in the middle of it. It could easily sit twenty five people or more but the table wasn't dressed and there was no food to speak of. She continued her exploration to the next room which turned out to be an open aired one with stairs at the end that was giving to the outside. Everything was extremely bright outside and Sookie wished she had sunglasses to block off the sun or whatever was shining since it was stronger than she remembered.

When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she was facing a big fountain surrounded by green grass. The scene was so peaceful she couldn't remember the last time in, her world, she had felt serene. She sat on the edge looking in the water and was surprised to not see her reflection. On the contrary, all she could see was a undistinguishable Shadow. She knew it was her own shadow but couldn't tell who it was. She brought her finger to the water which rippled upon contact and left her to feel sad. She wasn't sure why or how she felt so sad at that moment but she did and sighed heavily.

She heard a giggle behind her and turned to face another fae she didn't recognized form earlier. This one was tall and had long black hair floating behind her. She had the same amused look as the other one had in her room earlier.

''why are you so sad!'' she giggled spinning around to sit right beside Sookie. She looked down at the water. Sookie's reflection was still a shadow while the other Fae was with little girls dancing around in a circle.

''These are my four daughters'' she explained ''My pride and joy!''

''I don't get it, why is this water different?''

''What do you mean?'' she questioned

''aren't you supposed to see your own reflection?'' Sookie asked

''What silly concept is that!'' the Fae giggled ''this isn't a mirror! it's water!''

''Not in my world''

''Water is a reflection of your emotions, what is it in your world?

''Just a reflection of us I guess''

''Oh how it must be boring to live in a world without much magic'' she simply added before getting up. ''How come you don't remember what you miss?''

''Excuse me?'' Sookie exclaimed

''the shadow, it's someone important to you to be reflected yet it is a shadow. What happened to you?''

''That's a good question'' Sookie said but was interrupted by Niall who was coming down the stairs with his entourage.

''Claudette, that will be all'' he dismissed her with his hand. She gently bowed and left them. He also gestured for his little group to leave them alone.

'' I am sorry about that but I asked you to stay in your room'' he told her sitting beside her at the fountain.

''I was hungry. Who is this in the water? Why have I forgotten someone?''

''Because you have. When you came into this world, your body was dying but your spirit was fighting. I felt it was better suited to take some of your memories away from you so you can physically healed before having to deal with the emotions ''

''you did what?''

''ts ts ts, I did what had to be done. This is why you do not feel much of anything right now. Do you really want it all to come crashing down? I can't pick and choose what you remember. It will all come back right away. Your body isn't ready for your pain and suffering my dear'' he told her. The sadness in his eyes scared her. He had been so happy since she had met him, she couldn't possibly imagine what had darkened his mood so suddendly.

''Who am I seeing here'' she pointed at the water.

''His name is Eric, he is a vampire. What you are seeing is the bond in you. When you crossed over, you broke it, you are now missing it''

''But I don't feel it''

Niall stared at her for awhile before putting his hand on her lap.

''I assure you child, you will remember in due time. For now, I must explained how we will save humanity.''

''What?'' Sookie exclaimed.

''I apologize if this feels rushed but, heals, we do not have much time! When I closed the portal eight hundred years ago, I never thought I would open it so soon. We have known about this virus since it has started and have been working on a cure for days now.''

''Days?''

''Yes, my apologies, I forget you do not understand the differences between our world. I am not going to go into details, there is no time but know this, there are three worlds that we know of; Faery, the human world and the demon world. Faery, our home, is the land of light, magic and life. Time is faster here compared to the human world. Twenty minutes here is about a week in yours. Your world, is the land of questioning, reason and the plain existence. Magic exists in your world because of Faery, otherwise, your world would be without it. The demon world is the land of darkness, manipulation and death. Each of these worlds give births to different creatures but your world is common to Faery and the demon world. We can both access it using portals. Every world is crucial to the other two, without darkness there is no light, without life there is no death.'' He paused for a minute while searching for his words ''Eight hundred years ago in your time, we lost out battle and I had to close our portal so demons wouldn't invade our homeland.''

Sookie's head hurt. Niall was explaining everything has slow as he could but he knew it would overwhelmed Sookie.

''I will spare you the details but to open the portal, we needed a spark in the human world. The spark is what makes you Fae Sookie and we imagined when you were dying, you unconsciously tapped into it. All you need to know for now is that vampires and most demons are from the land of darkness. They only bring death with them as they cannot create life like we do, the virus most likely was engineered through their blood.'' He paused and looked into Sookie's eyes reassuring himself she was still following.

''There is a plant here in Faery that is known to fight off their blood in powerful ways, we imagined it would helped in creating a cure. We were right. We were able to bring back with us, a sample a living tissue and it seems to be working in killing off the ''dead'' cell''

''Does that means we can save people who have turned?'' Sookie exclaimed thinking of her Gran

''No, it just means you can kill them and keep them dead. We would have to get all humans to ingest the plant so they don't turn when they die. As for the already turned, we are still working on an administration protocol to kill them in masses.''

''So you found a cure but don't know how you will administer it. I guess it's great for the long term but sucks for the short term.'' Sookie replied

''Let's not be greedy. There is hope! We should rejoice.''

''I want to remember'' she said in response. ''If your world is that much faster than mind, I don't have time to waste. How long was I out for?'' she asked

''An hour or so''

''and how long as it been since I woke up''

''About another hour'' he said knowing she was calculation in her head how long that was. ''It is roughly six weeks in your world''

''What! ''she screamed ''I have been gone for a month and half! People will wonder where I am. Alcide, Jason, Tara! I need to go back

''I am afraid it is not possible for now child. The portal is open but if we do not teach you how to use your spark, you cannot go through it.''

''Are you serious right now, how long will that be?''

''Just a couple of hours, do not worry''

''Months in my time!''

''Sookie, remember, we are saving humanity, I think it's worth whatever amount of time it will take don't you think?''

She shrugged and crossed her arms over her chest. She didn't know who was waiting for her, who the fountain was showing her but she knew that person was waiting for her, and there is nothing worst in the world than waiting without knowing. Searching for her grand mother had taught her that.

The fairy with the long brown hair joined them in giggles and laughs which irate Sookie who just wanted to go back to her home world. Everyone in Faery seemed permanently drunk or high and it was starting to seriously annoy her.

''Why is everyone so fucking high here?'' she said as she got up ready to head to the stairs.

The fairy stopped laughing and looked at Niall who nodded in her direction. She then followed Sookie up the staircase.

''We are just happy beings most the time, it a side effect of what we eat here. The prince says we must eat four times a day otherwise we die.'' She exclaimed and seemed to take a pause to think about it. Sookie thought it to be strange to be forced into eating four times a day but didn't mention it. Faery seemed like a very weird land and Sookie didn't trust any of the fae. She had learned a long time ago that nothing is indeed perfect and despise being the land of light life and blablabla, something was wrong, her instincts were screaming at her to get out.

' I guess your world must be boring and sad right?'' the fae asked

''Not really, we have happiness and sadness I guess that's what makes us normal''

''what's the point of sadness though?'' the fairy enquired

Sookie didn't reply right away and kept walking despite not knowing where she was going. She wondered about it herself, what made sadness, despair, fear and all these negative emotions necessary.

''like Niall said we need darkness to see the light'' Sookie paused and added '' since we don't have food that makes us high all the time'' The fairy seemed to understand and was also happy with it. She sped up her walk to be right beside Sookie and took her hand in an effort to stop her from walking.

''I know you want to go back to your world, I am Claudine, your fairy godmother. I can help you tap into your spark. To do so…''

Sookie had stopped dead in her tracks which made the Fae stopped talking

'' Fairy godmother what?'' she exclaimed

''We all have one you know, I am to teach you our ways''

''I don't have time''

''I know, it will only take an hour, I promise''

Sookie sighed heavily but resigned into learning since she had no other choice. She had been told without her spark she couldn't cross the portal.

''If I need my spark to cross portals, does that mean demons have one too? Since they have to use portals too?''

''No'' the fairy replied ''we do not speak of the devil here'' she added.

There was a long awkward silence before the fairy started giggling and took Sookie's hand.

''I know what will ignite your drive!'' Claudine said. She ran to a room at the other side of the mansion dragging Sookie along. When they reached what looked like a garden in the middle of a room, she grabbed a fruit that looked like a star and gave it to Sookie.

''eat''

''I don't want to be high'' Sookie said giving it back.

''You wont! Just eat it''

Claudine had frowned. Her cheeks were red and her eyes had darken. For about a minute, she looked evil but the minute Sookie took her bite, Claudine's beautiful face return to normal and she was smiling. She stared at the fairy waiting for some side effects or feelings. At first, it didn't seem like it had work whatever effect Claudine had wanted but Sookie slowly felt a ball of what stress felt like forming into her stomach. Her shoulder raised as she tensed under an imaginary pressure. Her hand formed a fist while a big ball of anxiety formed into her throat keeping her from saying anything. But what hit her most of all was the tears rolling down her cheek as she remembered his face, his touch, his embrace. She couldn't find air as the emotions of her world slowly creeped up and she remembered what it was like living in the human world. The bond had returned but she couldn't feel him. I guess being in a different world was enough to lose track of one another. She closed at the pain of what was missing in her heart. Him. She then saw her Gran, her face, how she had mutilated her when she killed her. The pain of loosing someone so important to her made her choke of whatever air she was breathing and brought her to her knees. She looked at her hands and could have sworn she saw her grand mother's blood.

Claudine placed a hand on Sookie's shoulder as if it was enough to keep her in reality, to keep her from drowning in all the emotions that was resurfacing. Sookie couldn't breathe. Her chest was burning, her legs were on fire, and she let out a scream that chilled every single fae in faery. Claudine removed her hand and hissed which took Sookie out of her misery. She watched the fairy as her skin took a green pigmentation and her eyes were darker than darkness itself. Sookie got up and backed away from Claudine

''what the fuck are you?'' She asked

Claudine turned her face away from Sookie and placed it between her hands. Sookie heard her sobbed but just as fast as she had transformed, she faced Sookie back to her beautiful self. She smiled.

''What are you talking about?'' Claudine enquired

''you just turned demon like just now''

Claudine giggled and dismissed Sookie

''Of course not! It is a side effect of the fruit, do not worry''

Sookie frown. Whatever was happening here in this world she did not like it at all.

''I need to go back'' she snapped at Claudine.

''Well let's get to work then!'' Claudine happily replied knowing her plan had worked. She had giving Sookie a reason to work harder than no one else. She had restored her drive and now nothing could stop her from going back to him.
