As promised, here is Part 2 of Without You.
Part 3 will be out tomorrow or if I decide to be nice, later tonight. (Since it is like 6pm where I am.)
Enjoy!
It was still taking her some time to sink in that she wasn't going back home to Hillwood. That here she was sitting on this cloud, resting in a chair made out of a cloud, soaking up some sun. Earlier that same day, she had been talking to her dead grandmother who she hadn't talked to in over 10 years. It was incredible. It was slowly sinking in that she was dead. Criminy, she had huge wings growing out of her back, can't get much more dead than that. But for once, she was happy. Happy enough to know that Arnold was going to move on, at least that is what she kept thinking to herself. Maybe he would find a nice girl who loved jazz music and baseball as much as he did. They would meet in college, have this amazing love story, get married in a big church, move into a big house and have several beautiful children and be happy for the rest of his life. And she would eventually just be a distant memory to him. As long as he was happy down there, she could rest easy. She would see him again when he was old and ready to go.
She slipped her sunglasses over her eyes and closed them, feeling for once, completely relaxed and calm. She grabbed a cold Yahoo from one of the waiters floating around and thanked him with a simple nod of her head. She was gonna live good up here. That is, until she noticed Matthew flying rapidly across the multitude of clouds. Where was he heading in such a rush? She watched him as he flew closer and closer towards her and he stopped, breathing heavily in front of her.
"You're blocking my sun, Matt. How's an angel supposed to get a nice tan going?"
"I've come…to warn you…" He panted heavily.
"Warn me? Warn me about what?" She lifted the glasses off her face.
"Arnold."
She froze quickly, but didn't get up. Instead, she tried to play it cool, taking a sip from her soda.
"Warn me about Arnold. He got over me that fast? Damn, he works quickly. Look, I don't want to see him with another beautiful girl on his arm. Especially if it Princess Rhonda or even worse…Lila." She growled as she spoke her name.
"It's not a girl. It's serious."
"How serious we talking here?"
"God damn it Pataki, Arnold is dying."
She spit the drink out and sat up instantly.
"What do you mean he's dying?!"
"He jumped. In the river. Trying to drown himself."
"He knows how to swim. God damn it."
She got up out of her seat and grabbed Matthew's hand towards the Grand Council.
"You know you could have told me this in the first place!"
The doors swung open instantly to the office of the Grand Council as Helga marched in.
"You promised!"
"Ah, Miss Pataki. We expect to see you."
"Cut the bullshit. You promised he'd be happy and move on."
"You are certainly right. I did promise you that."
"Then why is he trying to drown himself in a river?"
"I promised that I would not interfere with him being happy and moving on. This is all his own choice."
She paused, her rage intensifying.
"ALL HIS DOING. YOU ARE KIDDING ME."
"No, I am not, Miss Pataki."
"You just can't let him die like this!"
"Oh, I can certainly can. This is his own choosing. I…"
"How the hell can you do this…"
"Let me finish."
She shut her mouth instantly.
"As I was saying, I can let him die like this. But you, Miss Pataki, can prevent him from dying."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, he's in Limbo chamber A. Slowly dying as he speak. Water filling his lungs…"
"Look, I get the picture. All I need to know is that I can save him from dying….by talking him into saving himself…"
"Quite right."
"Then I need to go, like right now."
"Wait, Miss Pataki. Just know this. You may be able to talk him out of this or you may not. In the end, that boy's life is not going to be the same."
"I know." She said sadly.
"Then go. You don't have much time."
She ran out of the room where a reviving Matthew leaned against one of the walls. She grabbed him and pulled him along. He gave out a yelp in response.
"Helga! Where are we going?"
"You are taking me to Limbo Chamber A. I have to slap some sense into him."
Arnold thought when he opened his eyes, the cold water of river would surround him, but instead he woke up in a completely bright white room. It reminded him of snow, when it falls for the first time. He squinted but attempted to look around the room. There were no windows, no doors, no nothing in the room. He closed his eyes again for a brief moment. Just where was he if he wasn't drowning in the river? As he focused, he saw something in the distance. A window maybe? He heard the rushing of water and ran towards it but all he saw was the murky depths of the river that he was supposed to be in.
"Fell for the old window is actually a mirror trick, didn't ya?"
He turned and noticed something else where he once was and it looked to be heading towards him. He squinted some more before he could barely make out the figure of a woman dressed in all white. She was tiny woman with short mousey-brown hair and a crooked smile on her face. She looked pleasant so Arnold let his guard down a little.
"Gets people every time, name's Alice."
"I'm…"
"Oh, I know. And you are in some big trouble Arnold."
He started inching his way away from her.
"I am? Where am I?"
"I don't think that really matters right now. However, there is someone here to see you."
"Someone here to see me. Like who?"
"You'll know her when you see her, or maybe hear her. When she gets close you can hear her from a mile away."
"So I know her."
"Mhmm. Speak of the…well I can't really say who, but here she is."
"Crandall, line 2."
A phone appeared instantly out of nowhere and Alice reached for it.
"Hello? Limbo Chamber 1."
She heard screaming on the other end, and what sounded like a couple f-bombs mixed in there. The woman in the room with him could only blink repeatedly and nod, even though the only person who could see Alice's reactions was himself.
"Right, right. I'll let you see him. If you promise to calm down."
The screaming got louder.
"Okay! Okay! So that's a no on the whole calm thing. Gotcha."
She hung up the phone.
"Good luck with her. She sounds like fun."
"You're just gonna leave me here?"
"…Yup…"
She vanished out of the room while Arnold yelled out to her.
"Wait, but who is she?"
He sighed and turned away, looking down on his shoes. He still had no idea where he was or who exactly was coming to see him until he thought he heard a door slam.
"You. Stupid. Football Head."
And that's when he turned around.
