Let Me Help You

** Enjoy! **
I ended up going with Rick, Michonne and Carl on the run, despite Daryl's anger and refusal to let me go. Hershel had said my leg was still bad but told me I could go as long as I don't push it, unless I have to. I had packed a small bag with some gauze and bandages just in case, but I knew this would be a quick trip. Carl and I sat in the back of the SUV while Rick sat up front with Michonne. Daryl had opened the gate for us, glaring at the ground as we passed. He was pissed. Too bad. I forgave him but he deserved it since he had up and left at one gesture from his brother. I could be a bitch when I wanted to be.
"He'll understand." Rick muttered quietly, his eyes glancing back at me.
"You know him." I grumbled. "He's like a five year old who throws a tantrum when he doesn't get his way, sometimes." Rick laughed at my words and I heard Carl hold back a smile. "You know I'm right."
"I know, Liz." He fidgeted in his seat and faced me, so he could see my face. "You love him, though." He grew quiet and his eyes dropped.
"I do." I didn't say anything else, knowing Rick had a feeling of despair after Lori died. He missed that feeling of love. Before I could say anything else we grew closer to a car wreck, blood covered the road and the cars, making me cringe. A walker was stuck under a flipped over vehicle, it's bony arms winding out from the car to reach for food. Too bad it was stuck. Michonne stopped the car to peer at the walker but pressed back on the gas, only to hear the tires spinning. We were stuck. A bloody hand slammed on the glass of my window, making me jolt back into Carl who was watching the scene with disinterest. More walkers slid alongside the car, looking for an open space to eat us. Rick glanced back at us and then at Michonne with tired eyes.
"Cover your ears." Was all he said to us. Carl, Michonne and I obliged and plugged our ears to block out the sounds. Rick cracked his window and produced his gun, setting the barrel out of the crack. With a few simple shots he had managed to kill the walkers and rid us of their hunger. We all ambled out of the SUV to search the cars of something to help us free our car. I ended up finding a new shirt that I slipped on since mine was torn and dirty. Rick and Carl gathered supplies and soon found a way to get the car free luckily. There was no way in hell I wanted to be stuck here. Rick began teaching Carl some simple tricks but Carl seemed to be more angry than anything.
"Why'd they have to come?" I knew he was talking about Michonne and I, but I moved off, leaning against a broken car. "Michonne took you to Woodbury, and split on you guys. And Elizabeth… She's been dealing with a bunch of shit. She isn't right."
"It isn't that simple. And watch your tone young man." Rick snapped. "You don't talk about either of them like that. You know how rough it had been on both of them, even us, so you don't get to judge them." Rick paused. "I didn't want to leave Michonne at the prison, not with Merle there. That's why I asked her to come today. Elizabeth on the other hand, needed some time away from Daryl. He left her and then suddenly came back, swooping her off her feet. It wasn't right of him to just leave her in the dust, so I'm helping her. Not to mention we all have common interests and problems."
"Just for right now?" Carl questioned and Rick didn't answer for some time.
"Yeah, just for right now." I felt a tear drip down my face and wiped it away quickly. No showing signs of weakness.
"Hey!" My mini emotional breakdown was interrupted by a man who was running towards us. "Help me! Please!" Rick tapped the car and the engine started, Michonne pressing the gas to get the car free.
"Let's go." Rick told all of us, his eyes catching my glassy ones. He gave me a look that meant we'd be talking soon, but didn't say anything. I climbed into the car without any words, but the man's screaming was all I could hear. He was begging us to wait, but we had no time. The car drove forward, leaving the man in the dust.
It wasn't long before we found the small town we were checking out. Michonne parked right outside the Sheriff station, quickly turning the car off and stepping out of it. Carl followed and soon Rick and I were left in the car.
"Just for now, huh?" I wondered out loud but didn't explore it any further.
"I just want to help." Rick muttered. "You and I have the same problems, except yours isn't dead." Carl and Michonne walked closer to the station without giving us any glances. They would wait.
"I can handle it on my own."
"Liz." Rick turned around to face me. "For once, let someone help you. Let them in."
"I let Daryl in."
"You need someone else. Sometimes there are things that you can't tell your partner, I know that. I was married for thirteen some years, I think I'm experienced enough." Rick pointed out with a look. I eyed him over to see if there wasn't something he wasn't telling me. I nodded silently, my eyes dropping to my clenched hands.
"Fine." I shrugged. "But this better be worth it, Rick. I can't have you judging me for my mistakes and problems."
"I'll say again, I was married for awhile, Elizabeth. I learned to not assume things at first, to actually talk things out."
"Let's go. They're probably waiting." I exited the car with the man who seemed like a good friend now, and met up with the others. Rick led the way into the station, making his way to the weapon storage. My fingers crossed at the hope of available weapons but to our dismay, there wasn't any left. Damn.
"Got any more police stations here?" Michonne commented, holding up a solitary bullet.
"I was the police here, me and a few other guys." Rick snapped. I was shocked to know that this was the original town that Rick and his family resided in. It was small but nice looking, well it probably was before the outbreak. "It's a small town but there's other places to check. Not as many guns as there was in here-"
"We're gonna need as many guns as there was in here." Michonne stated. "Ammo too." Rick agreed and I sighed, this was a waste if there wasn't any here.
"There's a few places here. The bar, liquor store…" He paused to give Michonne a look and I slowly stepped closer to him. "Do you have a problem with that approach?"
"No, Rick, I don't have a problem." Was all she said with a defeated look. She handed him the bullet and walked off. I knew she had heard what Rick and Carl were talking about before, just like I had. I followed Michonne out, catching up with her, but I didn't say anything. We waited outside for the two boys to exit the station, and when they did, we trailed behind them. I surveyed the place, noting how everything looked so empty and cold. They must have been such nice places before but now they were just dead, like everything else in this world. I retrieved my knife when we came upon something terrifying.
"What is it?" Carl whispered.
"I don't know." Was all Rick said. We approached the man made defense system. Sharp poles were crossed against each other while a rope with pots and pans were situated in the air. Who ever did this was smart and made his own personal alert system, not to mention a good trap. Any walker that came upon this would first hit the alert rope and then get caught on a pole. It was like a shish kabob but with walkers.
"Damn, whoever did this must be prepared." I said and Rick stared at me.
"Doesn't mean they have what we want. A few of the places are just up ahead. We can get in and get out." Carl nudged his father when he noticed a female walker trailing behind us. Michonne went to handle it when Rick stopped her. "She'll get caught." So we waited. The walker got caught on a wire fence but before we could kill her, a gunshot rang out and the walker fell. All of us froze, peering up at the man wearing a black mask with an intense looking gun.
