Chapter Five
Rivendell
The Council of Lord Elrond to Determine the Fate of the One Ring
Raumoquildeo stared contemplatively at the deceptive circle of gold resting on the pedestal before him and studiously ignored the fighting going on around him. He was trying to adjust to the fact that his papa had been right, he would know when the prophecy was beginning to go into full effect. Right now, in fact. He knew his immediate future was bound with that of this tiny, frail looking circle.
Dimly he heard Frodo say that he would take the ring to Mordor. Before he was even consciously aware of doing so Raumoquildeo was on his feet and vowing to accompany Frodo on his suicide mission. His destiny lay with that ring and he would go with Frodo to the ends of the Earth, or the fires of Mount Doom to see the job completed.
Gandalf looked at him askance before adding his won pledge to Frodo. After that it was like the breaking of a dam. In a matter of minutes they had swelled to a group of ten. Elrond cut the volunteers off at that point, doubtless afraid his own sons were about to volunteer their own talents. Indeed, Elrohir and Elladan sat back and pouted when Elrond declared 10 to be a quite fitting number as it was the number of enemies they were to face. The 9 mortal men, doomed to die and become the Ring Wraiths, or Nazgul, and their bodiless leader, Sauron.
As Frodo slipped the ring back into his pocket Raumoquildeo studied him intently. He needed to get his hands on that ring. He needed to study it, to learn its secrets. He didn't really want to, who would want to voluntarily spend time with something that as evil as that thing did? But he needed too, he was being pushed to do so by something that felt vaguely like his acceptance of the prophecy. For some reason something, or someone higher, wanted him to know about that ring, all of its deepest, darkest secrets.
Raumoquildeo knew though that he would have to be careful with how he approached Frodo. He could tell that the ring was drawing people to it and Frodo would no doubt be suspicious of anyone who wanted to hold it. The hobbit was not going to easily let just anyone hold the ring, not with the people that were being drawn to it, the hobbit included. Raumoquildeo might even have to tell the hobbit about the prophecy to get his cooperation, not something he was eager to do, but if it was necessary than he would. The prophecy needed to be fulfilled and he suspected he was going to need to know that rings secrets to make sure it was fulfilled properly.
