Rachel and Finn stepped out of the elevator on the seventeenth floor and across the hall to the one door that was along the hallway. Puck and Kurt stepped out with them and waited as Rachel used the card key to get into the apartment.
As soon as the door was open and the four of them stepped into their new home, each of them stopped short and their jaws dropped in shock. They had seen pictures but even after seeing them, hadn't prepared them for the reality of how luxurious their new home was.
The front foyer had an oval shaped rug and a crescent shaped entry table, which was stained a dark color, across from the front door and had a mirror above it. To the left of the front door was an open doorway and had a couch, desk and shelves full of books and to the right was another open door that had a round dining room table where James, Camilla, Shelby and a man with blond hair and blue eyes, who had Beth in his arm, were sitting.
Rachel smiled widely at the sight of her grandparents sitting there and rushed to James as he got up and walked over hug his granddaughter. Camilla was right behind her husband and as she embraced her granddaughter, Shelby had stood up along with the man holding Beth and they walked into the foyer to greet them.
Rachel glanced over at the man holding Beth and knew that this was AJ and she could see why her mother had started to date him. He was very handsome and was the same height as Puck but had a more muscular upper body. Beth seemed to like him and was content to have him hold her.
Puck watched as his little girl was being held by another man and felt a ripple of jealousy run through him. He didn't like the thought of another man being called Daddy by her and judging by the way both Beth and Shelby looked at this AJ person, deep down Puck knew it was going to happen.
He followed quietly behind everybody else as Mrs. Berry showed everybody to their rooms. It broke Puck's heart to see his Beth giggling as AJ and Shelby sat together and played with her. They looked like the family that he and Quinn should have been with their daughter.
As soon as Puck was shown to his bedroom, which consisted of a Queen sized bed, dresser, chest of drawers and desk while also having plenty of room to walk around. There were also two doorways that went to the bathroom he would share with Kurt and to the huge walk-in closet. He shuddered at the thought of the first part because he had heard from Finn that sharing a bathroom with Kurt wasn't the easiest thing in the world. He was worse than his mom and baby sister, Sarah had ever thought to be with monopolizing the bathroom.
Puck was pulled out of his thoughts by a knock on the open door and he turned to see AJ standing there.
"I think we need to talk about Beth and my role in her life," AJ said, before stepping into the room. "I have been in your shoes, Puck. I love Beth like she was my own daughter but I will never come between the two of you and any relationship she wishes to have with you when she gets older."
"How am I supposed to believe that, Mr. Quartermaine?"
"Call me AJ, my grandfather is Mr. Quartermaine. I had my son stolen from me when he was a baby and I hated every moment of how that felt. I was hung on a meat hook and threatened by the man who illegally adopted my son in order for me to sign away my rights to him. It led me to do things that I regret and hurt people that I loved in the process, including my son. I will never be a part of doing the same thing to someone else. Michael is now a few years older than you and your friends and although I hope to have a relationship with him as soon as I can, I still lost out on a lot of years with him."
Puck listened to AJ tell him all of the things that he did to get his son back and while shocked at how far the older man had went, he could understand the desperation he had felt. He also could understand AJ's hatred for Sonny Corinthos, the man who had stolen his son from him. If the situation had been different and someone had tried to force him to sign his rights to Beth away they would have had to kill him first. Add to the fact that a mobster who killed people for a living had no business judging anybody for their past actions.
After Kurt had been shown his bedroom, Rachel and Finn followed her grandparents back into the main room and up a curving flight of stairs that led up to the second floor. As soon as they stood at the top of them, there were two doorways, one to the fitness room and pool area, the other going into the master suite.
Camilla walked over to the door and started to push buttons on the control panel beside it. She then motioned for the two of them to join her.
"This is where you will put your security code in when you want to lock these rooms so nobody else can come in there. It is also ready set for you to establish your 4 digit code so only the two of you will know what it is."
Camilla stepped beside her husband and watched at her granddaughter and Finn had a quiet discussion before they put their code in. The door opened and the two of them stepped into the room, gaping at how big it was. Rachel's bedroom in Lima could fit in this one three times and then there were four doorways, two to the right of the bed that went into their adjoining walk-in closets and then one on the same wall as the bed but on the left side that went into their bathroom. Then there were a set of French doors that led out onto the balcony and had a gorgeous view of Central Park.
Camilla walked over to the night table on the right side of the bed and opened the top drawer, pulling out a small remote control.
"This is how the two of you will leave the room and allow anybody else in this room. There is also an emergency staircase that will take you down to the lobby if there is a fire or any other emergency. It is along the back wall of the right closet."
Camilla and James left the room to let Finn and Rachel get settled. They could hear the quiet conversation taking place between the newlyweds before walking down the stairs. They saw Shelby sitting on the couch, holding Beth, who was giggling.
"Where's AJ?"
"He went to talk to Puck about some things. Thank you, Mr. Berry for helping AJ with his legal problems. We didn't want him to have to go back to Port Charles to deal with it because if certain people had their way, he would be in jail."
"I'm glad to help because I can see why he did what he did. He was wrong to have kidnapped those children but after hearing everything that led to that, he was provoked."
"You aren't afraid of Sonny coming after you?"
"Shelby, I have faced other men in battle that make that mobster look like a coward in comparison. I am not afraid of him," James said confidently.
Rachel and Finn sat down on the king sized four poster bed and laid back, glancing at the canopy that lay over and around it. She turned to look at her husband and knew that his pride was kicking in as the sight of the elegant furniture and all of the other luxuries of this room.
"Finn, I know you hate the thought of feeling like you are in debt to my grandparents but this is my inheritance and what's mine is yours. You are also working to make this place better for all of the tenants who were neglected by the previous superintendent. You aren't freeloading," Rachel quietly said to him.
"Rach, this is too much for just the two of us. I am supposed to be taking care of you."
"You are taking care of me, Finn. I know you think that I need Broadway more than you and that isn't true. You keep me centered and don't let me go back to being that spoiled and arrogant little girl that I was at the beginning of our sophomore year. I love you and I need you just as much as I do Broadway. Being married to you is now just as much my dream as playing Fanny Brice in Funny Girl."
They shared a gentle kiss before getting up and going downstairs to help move boxes from their cars.
Later that night, everybody was sitting around the table in the dining room, eating Chinese food and laughing. Beth was in a high chair between AJ and Puck, who was making funny faces at his daughter as she giggled.
There was a knock on the door and Rachel went up to see who was there, groaning in irritation at the sight of a familiar blond. Ginger Flanagan stood there, wearing the shortest pair of denim shorts that Rachel had ever seen and a small tank top where her breasts were about to fall out of them.
"I need to speak to Mr. Berry. The plumbing isn't working in my apartment."
James stood up and walked over to the door, smiling politely at the young woman in front of him.
"I will send somebody down there after we finish dinner."
"Thank you, Mr. Berry," Ginger stated, winking flirtatiously at the man old enough to be her grandfather before walking back to the elevator.
Rachel looked over at her grandmother, who was grinning at the confused look on her husband's face.
"Finn, Puck take Rachel with you when you go to repair that young lady's plumbing. Any repairs that need to be done for her are to be when Kurt or Rachel can go with you," she firmly said.
The four of them leave the apartment to get the repairs Ginger needs done as James continues to stand there, in shock.
"Camilla, that girl shouldn't have been flirting with me. What the hell has this world come to?"
Camilla smiled at James and led him out of the apartment to go upstairs to their home so she could calm him down.
AJ, who was holding Beth, and Shelby were smiling before going back to sit down on the couch.
"Have you talked to your mom today," Shelby inquired gently.
"Yes. She told me to tell the General thank you for his help. After she tells dad that I am alive she wants to come down here to meet you and Beth and wants me to stay away from Port Charles even after it is announced that I am alive."
"Do you think this Cesar Faison will come after you now that you have made it public that he is alive?"
After AJ had 'died' seven years earlier, he had been sent to a Swiss clinic to recover and during his time there, he had taken a picture of Faison, a criminal that had terrorized his hometown of Port Charles, NY for years before supposedly dying in a boat explosion that also had supposedly killed Anna Devane and Robert Scorpio, two of the people that had did everything to stop his reign of terror. It had been discovered that Anna and Robert had both survived the explosion so according to his mother, a lot of people in his hometown had hoped that Cesar would stay dead but after the proof AJ had given to the FBI, people were looking for him.
"I don't think so. My attorney made sure that my name was blacked out on the paperwork to keep me and everybody I love safe."
"What about Sonny and Jason? They might want your head on a pole once they find out that you are alive and let's not forget about Carly."
"I'm not going back to Port Charles. I am staying here with you and Beth. My life is here now with the two of you."
Before Shelby could respond, Rachel came storming into the apartment with Finn rushing in behind her. She was cradling her hand, which was swollen and red.
"What happened," Shelby asked as she jumped up and rushed to her daughter's side.
"I punched that slut in the jaw after she tried to seduce my husband right in front of me."
Shelby took Rachel into the bathroom to check her hand out while Finn kicked over the nearest chair in frustration.
"Do you feel better now?"
"Not really. Why do some people act like they can do whatever they please and not give a damn that they hurt others in the process?"
"I don't know son. That is something I have never figured out myself," AJ said in a comforting manner. "Although I have been guilty of that myself a few times, one of them caused me to hurt someone that I loved very much."
Finn and AJ sat there talking for a few minutes until Rachel and Shelby came out of the bathroom, Rachel's hand wrapped in an ace bandage.
"I'm pretty sure she has broken a bone in her hand. We need to take her to the Emergency Room."
Finn jumped up and went over to his wife's side, cradling her against him as they went to the front door. Shelby pulled out her cellphone and called Camilla and James to let them know what is going on before looking over at AJ, unsure of what to do.
"Go with her, I'll watch Beth. Puck and Kurt will help me when they get back."
Shelby followed Rachel and Finn out of the door while AJ sat Beth down on the floor and let her play with some toys that were in her diaper bag.
Thirty minutes later, AJ was sitting on the floor with Beth, when Puck and Kurt walked back into the apartment. Both of them needed showers since the latter had helped with the repairs after Finn had left. Before the door could be closed behind them, two men walked up to the door. One was around AJ's age; wearing a black t-shirt that showed the muscles in his upper body with blond hair and blue eyes while the other was twenty years younger and resembled the man with him and AJ too.
AJ stood up from the floor, picked up Beth and held her while staring at the two men at the door in shock.
Camilla had never been this pissed off in her entire life and the person responsible for that was about to wish she had never been born. James had gone to the emergency room to check on Rachel while she had decided to deal with their newest tenant.
The only reason Ginger Flanagan had been allowed to rent an apartment was because of who her father was. Camilla might not be able to kick her out because of the lease that had been signed but it was time for the pampered princess to get set straight on just who she was messing with.
Camilla stopped at the sight of the police standing outside of Ginger's apartment and knew that this little bitch was going to cause trouble. Until she saw that one of them was Mark Hernandez, who had transferred from the Lima police department to the NYPD to be with Hannah.
"It is nice to see you again, Sergeant Hernandez."
"Hi, Mrs. Berry. We had a report of an assault taking place in this apartment."
"I will admit that Rachel punched the young woman that lives there but only after she had tried to seduce her husband in front of her."
The officer with Mark, an older African American man in his forties, knew who Camilla Berry was and that she wouldn't lie about something like this but he still had to hear the story from everybody who had been involved with the incident.
"We will need to speak to your granddaughter and her husband."
"Their roommate Noah Puckerman and Kurt Hummel were there and saw what happened. They are up in the Penthouse on the 17th floor. Rachel and Finn are at the Emergency Room getting her hand put into a cast after she broke it."
The door to Ginger's apartment opened and she stepped out but stopped short at the sight of Camilla standing there.
The three of them followed her into the apartment with Camilla glaring at Ginger before the front door was closed.
Finn and Rachel sat in the exam room while the waited for the doctor to come back with the x-rays. She hadn't said much too him but he could see that she was still upset at what happened with Ginger. He walked over to sit by her on the bed and held her as she laid her head on his shoulders.
"I thought she wouldn't hit on me if I wasn't alone with her. Do you want to move?"
"No but Noah is to handle any repairs that she might have in her apartment. I trust you, Finn but she is a manipulative bitch that makes Quinn look like an angel in comparison."
"I will talk to Puck about taking any calls that she might have. I just hope that he could handle the repairs himself after I left."
Before Rachel could respond, the curtain opened and Shelby walked in with James and Hannah walking in behind her. The latter look angry enough to kill someone but also rushed to her niece's side and took the hand that wasn't broken.
"If the two of you weren't working on a deal with her father, I would ask if you wanted me to get her little ass evicted."
"Camilla was on her way to Miss Flanagan's apartment when I left to come and check on Rachel, so I would say she is going to be scared witless by the time she gets done with her," James commented, smiling gently at his granddaughter.
"Grandpa, Finn is not to do any repairs in her apartment. She can wait for Puck. I don't want that woman near my husband."
"Rachel, you have to learn to trust him," Shelby started to say.
"Shelby, it's not him that I am worried about. It's her. The reason I punched her is because I saw her putting something into one of the glasses of tea that she had made for all four of us. I watched which one she was going to hand that one to and she intended it for Finn. When I confronted her about it, he sat it down by the window and grabbed me after I had punched her in the face."
At her words, James grabbed his phone and quickly called his wife, hoping that Ginger hadn't dumped the tea to hide what she had tried to do.
Camilla answered the phone and at her husband's words saw the glass sitting on the window sill right where Rachel said it was. She walked over and picked it up, watching Ginger's eyes get wide with fear as she looked at Mark and his new partner.
"Detectives, my husband just called and informed me that my granddaughter said that Ginger slipped something into her husband's tea and that he sat it right here after Rachel confronted her about it and the fight started."
Camilla kept a hold on the glass while Mark and his partner made sure to place some of the contents into a leak proof evidence jar before emptying the rest into the kitchen sink and putting the glass into an evidence bag.
"Miss Flanagan, you better hope that there isn't any sign of GHB or any kind of date rape drug in that tea or on the glass," Mark said before looking over at his partner, who was glaring at Ginger.
Before Ginger could respond, a voice from the door carried over to them.
"Don't say another word, Ginger Marie."
Her father stood in the doorway of the apartment, glaring at his daughter before turning to the detectives that were getting ready to leave.
"Do your lab tests on that glass and my daughter will accept whatever they say but until you have proof that she tried to drug anybody, any more questions you have for her will take place with our attorney present."
Mark and his partner didn't say a word; they just left while Camilla stood there for a few moments. She watched as Jason didn't say a word to his daughter but could see the fury brewing in his dark eyes.
"I think it would be in Ginger's best interest if we figure out how to terminate her lease and find her somewhere else to stay where her mother and I can keep a better eye on her. Please tell Rachel that I am sorry for what happened here and I hope that my daughter's behavior doesn't interfere with the business deal for their songs but I will understand if it does," Jason quietly said.
"Ginger, go pack a bag. You aren't staying in this apartment one more night," he said angrily. "Don't even give me any back talk or I will cut off every one of your credit cards and you will have to get a job. Don't push me young lady or I will call those officers back her and let them take you to jail."
Ginger stormed into her room and slammed the door hard enough to shake the walls before Camilla started to speak.
"I will let them know, Jason and have Rachel and Finn call you. I thought having a group of them together would prevent anything from happening while the plumbing was repaired. I was wrong."
"No, you weren't wrong, Camilla. It is just my wife and I have let her have her way and not dealt with this when it first started happening. Luckily your granddaughter prevented her husband from drinking that tea and he didn't end up in the hospital the way Trevor Marcus did a few months ago. I wanted to let the LAPD deal with her then but my wife talked me out of it but this attitude of she can do what she pleases even if it means breaking the law to get what she wants has to stop."
"I will leave you alone to deal with her. Thank you for showing up and dealing with this situation, Jason."
"You're welcome."
Camilla left the apartment and winced at the sound of Jason and Ginger have a screaming match and hoped that the neighbors didn't call the police back here again. Although if she had talked to her father like that as a teenager, she would have had the fire slapped out of her and every privilege her parents could think of taken away for being disrespectful.
A few hours later, Rachel, her hand in a cast, Finn and Shelby came back to the penthouse; to the sight of AJ having a heated discussion with his brother Jason while a younger man who, given the resemblance could only be his son, Michael, watched silently.
"Excuse me, I know that whatever the two of you are discussing is important but this is my home and after spending five hours in the ER waiting for some slow ass doctor to take x-rays, have him tell me that my hand is broken, which I already knew, waiting for him to set it, put it in a cast and let me go home, I don't have time for any family feuds in my living room," Rachel snapped at them. "I am also on enough painkillers right now to say whatever I want and not give a damn whose feelings I hurt."
Rachel started to stumble and it was only because of Finn grabbing her that kept her from hitting the floor. He carried her up the stairs, leaving Shelby to deal with her boyfriend and the other two men in the room.
"My daughter is right, we need to take this somewhere else or wait until the morning," Shelby said firmly before looking around the room. "AJ, where's Beth?"
"Puck took her to his room and is spending time with her while I dealt with my brother," AJ commented before turning to face Michael, his expression softening. "If you want to talk Michael, I am here but I will not force my way into your life."
AJ showed Jason and Michael to the door and reluctantly let the son he had wanted to have a relationship with leave his life once again.
"Being a parent and doing what is best for them really sucks sometimes."
Shelby grinned softly before kissing him gently on the lips.
Finn carried Rachel to their bed and laid her down on the mattress. He grinned at the sight of her passing out before he could even pull her ballet flats off. He decided to leave her tank top, skirt and knee highs on so he pulled off his own shoes and his jeans before crawling up beside Rachel, pulling a blanket over them and held her in his arms.
'If today is any indication of what our lives will be like in New York, Grilled Cheesus help us all.'
AN: This chapter is the longest I have done for this story and it has been an adventure writing it. I am trying to introduce OC's and some of my favorite characters from other shows while keeping a strong focus on Finchel as well, whose story is at the heart of this fiction. I felt like Rachel might have been a bit OC in that last part where she was on painkillers but I giggled a bit as I wrote it because of my own personal experience with pain medication. It either knocks me out or I say off the wall stuff that I wouldn't normally say. I thank the Lord everyday my cousin wasn't recording me before I had my teeth out a few years back and on Valium the dentist gave me to calm me down or she would have put it on Facebook or YouTube for all of my family to see.
