Chapter 8: Lone Girl vs. Ex-Girlfriend

(Kairi's POV)

I stood by the front of my apartment building waiting for Roxas's car to come, which was weird for one thing since Roxas always gets here before I could even finish changing.

My phone then started ringing as I see an unfamiliar silver Volvo making its way on my street. I flipped open my phone without looking at caller ID and placed it beside my ear.

"Kai sorry… I won't be able to pick you up today." Roxas voice said on the other line.

'Geez, Roxas couldn't you have said that earlier?' I thought looking at my watch, I was going to run late. "That's ok, if you get to class first just make up the excuse… Like I had an accident or something." I said making light of the situation as I started walking to the direction of the bus.

"That's not it actually." Roxas said at the other line with a hesitant hint on his voice. "You see… The thing is…"

As Roxas was trying to get his excuse on my side the silver Volvo stopped a few meters beside me. Upon closer look it was a S60R and the passenger door opened. Lo and behold Sora Savage had come out of the car. I simply stared at him as what Roxas has been saying got the ping on my brain.

"Sora called me and said that he was going to pick you up."

"And you just agreed with him?" I said incredulous at the betrayal.

"Well, I sort of forgotten the printed report back home. So, I had to drive back and get it. Then Sora called, I think Sora's family is part of a mafia. I don't remember giving him my number, but he got it."

I glared at the smiling spike-head, "Morning Kairi…" He greeted smiling radiantly.

"Roxas, Roxas…" I sighed as Roxas's still continued on rambling about mafia which really makes no sense to me. "Roxas!"

"Yes, Kai?" Roxas said sounding dumb founded.

"Apparently the rides here. I'll talk to you later." I said and flipped my phone down without listening to Roxas's response. "How'd you got his number?" I asked instead of greeted back. I so do not want to greet him.

Upon closer inspection it seems that his black eye had magically disappeared. Which was odd, I swear it was still there yesterday.

"I got ways baby." Sora said suavely.

I cringed and said, "Do you want me to blacken your eye again?" I then noticed the surprised look the driver gave me apparently hearing my question.

"Ok, ok I was just kidding." Sora said trying to do a defense stance but failing miserably.

I laughed softly at the stupid show. Sora then returned to smiling gaily.

"For your information I still have the black eye. It's just hidden very cleverly." Sora said covering his now black-eyeless eye.

"I thought so." It was obvious he had it hidden under make-up. That kind of injury at least takes days to return to normal.

"So, I guess Roxas already told you, that I'm going to be your ride today." Sora said with full smiling teeth.

"How'd you get his number?" I asked again.

"I have my secrets." Sora said opening the car door wide for me to enter.

I looked at the opened passenger thinking it was the lion's den, then glanced at Sora again.

"Come on, you're not gonna enter the lion's den you know." He said.

"Pfft…" I coughed at the comment. "I didn't know you can read minds, are you Edward Cullen?"

At that comment we both glanced at the car. How ironic Edward Cullen did drive a silver Volvo S60R.

(A/N: Like Bella "I don't speak car and driver". I had research this and got the answer to the very Stephanie Meyer's website.)

We both laughed at the irony.

"Ok then Bella… Please hop on so I can finally have a taste of you." Sora joked.

"Funny…" I said boarding the car. "Wish I had a wooden stake with me."

Once Sora sat beside me and closed the door, I just know I am going to regret this later.

(Sora's POV)

No matter what I do, I can't break the smile off my face. That's why I keep my face away from Kairi's line of vision. I know for sure that if she sees it, it'll just make her furious. And I don't wanna wreck the ride.

Too bad I'm not at the front wheels! And it's all because of the very girl beside me or the cause of it. Because of the black eye mama has forbidden me to drive until it heals. Making excuses that all ends up with me crashing because of a stupid black eye.

"How surprising you're still being driven around?" Kairi commented.

"All credit goes to you." I said dryly.

"Why?" Kairi asked. "And why are you looking away?" I heard her say.

"No, particular reason…" I said taking control of my emotions and faced her. "And as for the driving issue… When my mom saw this." I said pointing at the now invisible black eye. "She went all, "Sora dear you can't go driving in that condition. What if you get into an accident? Blah blah…"

And the nerve of this girl to just laugh out openly, at my wounded pride.

"Long story short, she doesn't want you driving in fear of you colliding a wall or tree." She said.

"That's not true, she said I may not notice near collision stuff." I defended making air gestures.

"Isn't that the same thing?" Kairi said and went into another fit of laughter. "God, I hope I was there to record it." She added.

"No way, and don't you go telling anyone." I said and waving a fist in the air.

"Sure, sure I won't…" Kairi said and when I was staring intently, she added with a snort, "I give you my word, my lips are sealed." She added making the gesture of zipping her lips.

Somehow I felt better. Strange though, somehow I feel like I'm just talking to one of the guys. Hmmm… Kairi acts more like a guy than a girl. Maybe she's just a bit of a tomboy. That would explain Roxas's insistence that she were skirts instead of pants. Give her the freedom to choose, I think she would've chose guys pants over skinny jeans most girls wear.

Suddenly an image formed in my mind; one where Kairi has the physique of a guy. "Hey, Sora… Come over here." I felt a sudden rush of cold coming down my spine. I slapped my cheeks to get the horrible image away. Where did that come from? That was one creepy imagination.

(A/N: Oh, Sora… If only you know. ^_^ )

"But what are you going to explain to your buddies?" Kairi suddenly asked looking at me weirdly.

"What do you mean?" I asked looking at her.

"I mean they would want to know why you aren't driving." Kairi said looking outside the window. "You can avoid answering other people, but your friends are a different matter. They have the right to pester you being buddies and all."

When she voiced those thoughts the only thing I thought was, 'Damn it!' Which I voiced too. And heard Kairi chuckle.

"It isn't funny. What am I going to say?" I asked in general not caring who could answer me.

The chauffer simply coughed looking at me by the rear view mirror. No help there. I glanced at Kairi.

"Simply tell them the truth." She suggested.

"No way, they'll hold it over my head for as long as I live!" I said in return.

"That is the idea…" Kairi said grabbing her bag. "I'll get off here, mister."

"What?" I said with the chauffer's resounding. "Where near the school, miss."

"Why are you getting off?" I asked facing her.

"Sora have you heard about the rumors spreading at school?" Kairi asked as the car slowed to a halt by the street.

"What rumors?" I hear all sorts of rumors from the girls. Even though I said I 'm not interested, they'll just continue on as if they haven't heard me "I hear all sorts of rumors." I added.

"About me, you and Roxas." Kairi said simply getting out of the car while I follow her.

Oh that rumor. "The love triangle one?" I asked just to make sure.

"First, there is no love triangle. It's so stupid really." Kairi said huffing her bangs, makes her look cute.

"But why are you not going all the way to school with me?" I asked again. "And don't say because were acquaintances. After what we went through."

"We went through nothing. You should be grateful I picked you up and didn't leave you on the street." Kairi said walking off. "And because I don't want any trouble, Sora. You and I may have gone off from acquaintances to sort-of-like-friends." she said looking at her upper right.

Sort of like friends? Is there even such a relationship?

"Anyways I don't want to add fuel to the fire by being seen with you in the car." Kairi said.

It irritated me. She lets Roxas go anywhere with her. "Just a minute…"

"What Sora? The bell is going to ring soon." Kairi said with that cute irate face of hers. She doesn't pout like the average girl. But I guess that's what makes her cute.

"Ok, ok I'll concede defeat this time." I said and Kairi gave me a weird look. "Give me your number."

"What?" Kairi asked as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Sora, didn't you just hear what-"

"I heard you loud and clear. Don't worry though I'm not going to let them know I have your number." I reasoned, she could at least give me that.

Kairi clenched her knuckles as if wanting to punch me again. Knowing her I bet she was thinking it. She sighed and said; "Why don't you use your resources and just get my number the way you did Roxas?"

"That's a different matter." I said mumbling. I could do exactly as she said. But I want her to give it to me personally.

"Fine…" Kairi said then took out her phone then flipped it open.

I could hear the tooting sound of the keys then my phone suddenly sound out its tune. I checked my smart phone and saw that someone named "CursedMale" was sending me a file. I pressed the accept button. After receiving the file Kairi's contact number then appeared on the screen.

"How'd you know my alias?" I asked quickly saving the contact.

"I think you're the only one arrogant enough to name yourself, "KingOfWorlds"." Kairi said looking at me pointedly. "Really Savage…" She added as if the name is quite common with no originality.

"Oh, yeah what about the name "CursedMale". It's much weirder if you ask me." I said looking at her as she continued on walking.

"There's nothing weird about that." Kairi said smirking at me. "Don't go acting all friendly with me, Savage. At school I don't know you." She said and walked off.

"Hey…" I was about to go after her but…

"Sir, school's about to begin." The chauffeur said over the rolled down window.

I sighed and went back inside the car. Just then my phone sounded its tune when I looked at the screen it notified receiving a text message. I opened it.

The message written: "You should be careful about keeping your Bluetooth on all the time, sea porcupine." The sender was Kairi.

Blinking at the message I smiled a bit. "No friend acting I can do that."

(Kairi's POV)

'I don't even want to think about the ride to school. A desperate man will clutch at straws. Anyways better head for the locker.' I thought as I walked at the direction of the locker area.

When I reached my locker I began turning the dial when I heard the sniggering behind me.

"Just look at the bitch! Think she's all that, but she's just really nobody."

"She's such a shameless slut!"

The snide comments continues. I simply left them alone. The warning bell then rang.

"See you girls…" The girls started saying their farewells and as they were about to part ways.

"Are you done, girls?" I said facing the three of them.

Students who heard my resounding question halted to listen.

"What do you want, bitch?" One of them started.

"My, my. Don't we have a dirty mouth?" I said and this made the girl in question redden as she saw the other students starts talking. "You girls saying this and that… When you're the ones who are acting the labels you give me."

The other students whispering in agreement.

"Shut up, you slut!" The girl who with flaxen hair said. "Who do you think you are? You just transferred here, that's your only appeal you know." She added smirking.

"Is that your story?" I asked. "Savage took attention to you because you were a new transfer. It got way over your head, which is probably the reason he dumped you."

"What?" The girl said in shock. Bull's eye… I was merely speculating, I guess I wasn't so wrong.

"What's the matter cat caught your tongue?" I said knowing it was the case. I then looked at the last girl, she flinched under my scrutiny. "You want to go next?" I asked.

The girl simply bit her lower lip and said nothing. I turned away from them and said.

"You girls think your cute and all, which may be true… But your attitudes are a complete turn off to men like Valence and Savage." How strange it is to talk about myself as a third person.

I walked out of the locker area leaving the whispers behind, heading to the classroom. The scene somehow left a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm not one to bully girls, but I'm also not the sort of person to bow to bullying. It's what got me out of the line of fire which I also brought Roxas out of too.

(Sora's POV)

I couldn't stop the smile gracing my face today. Nothing could probably ruin it.

"Hey Sora! Quick you gotta hear this." I heard Tidus yell from behind me.

'I spoke too soon.' I thought as I turned and saw Tidus quick pacing to reach me behind him was Wakka.

"What is it now?" I asked.

"The new transfer student got in an altercation with three girls." Tidus said loudly.

"Not just any three girls. One was one of your exes, brudda." Wakka said. He knows very well I don't like the name of my exes being mentioned in my person. Not that I'm a jerk or anything but I do have a very good reason for breaking off with them.

"New transfer student…? Are you talking about Kairi?" I said somehow it made me panic inside but I didn't let anyone know it. "You said an ex of mine which one?" Not to bragging or anything, just saying.

"Larxene…" They both said at the same time.

This time I cringed. Larxene is completely bad news. She wasn't really like that before, she was shy and caring when she was but a new transfer student. Then before my very eyes, she became a complete five letter word. I became worried until what the two were saying was processed by my brain.

"What did you say?" I asked to certain that I heard the right thing.

"That girl Kairi, didn't cower at all. As a matter of fact she faced them, brudda." Wakka said.

"Like a raging dragon, turning the tables on them." Tidus added. "And get this, she found out Larxene's history with you."

"What do you mean she found out? Larxene probably boasted it over, like she always does." I said, and warning other girls off that were still together, which isn't true at all.

"Larxene didn't manage that far with Valentine." Riku said as he flicked my head from behind.

"Ow, what's the big idea?" I said punching him in the elbow in return. "And what did you mean by that."

"Before Larxene could make the claim. Valentine eventually tripped her off…" Riku said making a gesture in the air. "So that's your history, Savage took notice of you and got dumped. Well, something similar to that."

"Then I heard she even challenged the last person in her group to make a comeback at her. But the girl scared and cried." Tidus said.

"I don't think the girl cried." Riku said shaking his head. "I passed them by the hall. None of them seemed to be crying, but Larxene was in a complete mad as hell."

"After Valentine had her last word, she just left, brudda." Wakka said laughing as if there was something funny. "Wish I was there to witness it." He added.

I suppose there was something funny if we were to witness it.

"The girl's no pushover that's for sure." Tidus added putting his hands behind his head.

"Didn't we already agreed the girl's tough from the beginning." Riku added and stirred us to the hall to get to our classrooms.

"Lucky for Larxene, Kairi didn't think of punching her." I said and unknowingly touched my less than visible lack eye. "Ouch, I forgot it still hurts."

"What's up with you?" Tidus asked looking at me.

Riku was also looking then a knowing smirk lightened his face. "Don't tell me Valentine punched you?" He said a loud.

"Shut up, she did no such thing." I said in denial. But then my dignified denial was blown when Wakka poked the spot. "Owwww!"

"That must really hurt…" The three chorused together then started laughing.

(Kairi's POV)

The last bell rang signaling the end of class and school at the same time. I quickly picked up my things and putted them in my bag. When Olette approached me she's a classmate in biology.

"Hey Kairi, I heard what happened early this morning." Olette said. "Larxene is quite the drama queen, but then no one dares stand up against her."

"Because of her reputation?" I asked seeking information.

I know women like Larxene. She's not the sort to quit when she's beaten. She's a sore loser.

"Well, she does hang among the popular crowd. Making an enemy of her is quite putting yourself in the social outcast." Olette said. "But she's known to put too much on her pranks."

"I see…" I said as I better get an ace up my sleeves just in case. "Thanks a lot Olette, but don't worry about me I can handle myself."

"If you say so…" Olette said biting her lower lip. Olette's a very nice girl, she deems herself as the mature one to stop Roxas and Hayner from being there idiotic selves, a group of friends which I'm part of now. "It still would be better for you to stick with someone and never let yourself to be alone."

"I know Larxene isn't the sort to be pushed aside. But she doesn't know me and if she ever tries me. She'll collide with my knuckles." I said cracking my hands.

"That's kind of too much." Olette said smiling.

"Well, since I'm a girl I think there's no problem with brawling with a girl."

When I got out of the room I saw Sora just a few distance from the classroom surrounded by his groupies. Not jealous, not jealous at all.

(A/N: We know your jealous Kairi =P just which are you jealous off? The girls surrounding Sora or Sora being surrounded by girls, being a boy and all before hahaha)

How I wish this curse would just end. Olette and I started to walk away to the opposite direction. Unfortunately, I should've known that Sora waiting outside the door of my last class was no coincidence.

"Hey, Kairi!" I heard his voice echoed at the hall.

I sighed and heard Olette chuckling. As he presented himself in front of me. "You know I am really trying to retrain myself from hunting you down this morning." I expressed heavily and we continued walking but the threat doesn't deter him and he continued walking besides me.

"Whatever for?" Sora asked innocently but I'm certain he knows the why of it. "To give me a kiss."

"To give you're other eye the same state." I said glaring at him.

Sora raised both his hands in complete surrender and said; "Please spare me."

Olette giggled again. "I just remembered I forgot something. I'll go on ahead." She said and ran off saying; "Bye Kairi…"

The traitor! I take back what I said about her being very nice. She's a devil, a scheming devil!

"Well shall we get going?" Sora asked grinning obviously being happy about Olette leaving us alone.

"Going? Going where?" I asked.

"Where else to your part-" Sora almost leaked out my part-time job. Good thing I covered his mouth in time.

"Will you keep your mouth shut?!" I hissed looking around, it seems that no one heard.

Sora muffled a "Why?" Gads he's completely oblivious. Good thing our classroom was near the school entrance.

"I'm certain you heard what happened this morning." I said heading to the direction of the café.

Speaking of the café, it was a good thing the location was miles off school.

"About Larxene? Yeah I heard, what about it?" Sora asked.

"I know people like Larxene. Their sore losers." I simply explained. "If she ever finds out I'm working at a café she's bound to go there and cause all sort of trouble that'll get me fired." This is one thing about making enemies. When you make them you better be watching your back for any attacks.

(Sora's POV)

"So it would be bad if people were to find out where you work?" I said looking at the sky. "Good point… So who else knows where you work?"

"Roxas, Olette, Hayner and Pence." Kairi listed off.

"Hey, you're forgetting someone." I said insulted she didn't include my name.

"The last one does not matter." She said looking at smirking. "Since I never did tell you."

"Ugh, but I still found out." I said grinning.

"Whatever just make sure you don't tell anyone? Who knows who'll slip it up?" Kairi said looking forward again.

So, Kairi is also a bit cautious. Which made me think of something.

"You're quite a bit a cynic." I commented.

Kairi chuckled which makes her look cute. She should do that more often.

"Yeah, maybe I am…" Kairi said. "Believe it or not I was not like this before. I'm…" She said then glanced at me giving me a look then averted her head at the other direction.

"What?" I asked after the long silence. I am a bit curious.

"Truth be told I'm more like you." Kairi finally said looking at the sky. "More laid back and easy going."

I took in what she said. The opportunity presented itself. "Then everything changed because of that girl?"

"Who girl?" Kairi asked looking all innocent.

"The girl you were after at the mall. Who was she anyway?" I asked.

I should have been more careful in mentioning the issue of that, upon seeing Kairi's face growing more serious and quite scary as hell.

"It would be better for you not to get involve in my business Savage." Kairi said in a hard cold voice. "Believe me, nothing good is going to come out of it."

Being warned we continued our walk towards our destination. Silence reigning, all because I opened my stupid mouth. One thing for certain, whatever this business with the girl is. It's more serious than just petty jealousy.
