Just days after Haldir and Calaereth's return to Lothlórien, Haldir had left again to guard the borders. Calaereth was sad to see him leave so soon but she knew that the duty of Marchwarden hardly had any days off. Evil would always exist unless Sauron was destroyed. Calaereth drew boredly on the sheets of Haldir's bed as a lazy smile crawled on her face. They had kissed once more last night, an intense kissing session. But of course it did not progress into anything more, Haldir was a gentleman. And Elven marriage states that they are not to do anything serious until they are married. Calaereth had to give credit where it was due, Haldir was amazing at controlling his emotions.

Calaereth let out a long sigh as she stared at the blinded window, at least Haldir had enough sense to leave the blinds down when he left. Haldir had left early morning, the sun hardly even up yet. She grinned at the little peck on the lips he had given her before he had left. Oh how handsome he had looked, in his Marchwarden gear. As little remaining pieces of moonlight shined on his hair. It made him look as if he had silver hair. Not that his original hair color was not pretty enough. That mysterious little smirk he had on his face when he left was enough to make her wondering all day. Calaereth was certain she would be wondering for the rest of the entire week or until he returned.

Haldir had told her last night over dinner that he was to return once he learned news of the result of the Battle of Pelennor Fields. The Battle was not scheduled to happen for a couple more days. Calaereth slowly dragged herself out of the empty bed. It was no longer the same when Haldir was not there to hold her. Calaereth made the bed neatly and tidied up the room before going downstairs in search of something to eat.

She was heading to the kitchen room when she noticed an object on the table out of the corner of her eyes. She stopped immediately and turned to look, it was an apple. Calaereth smiled as she grabbed it and sat down at the table to eat the crispy apple. Oh how Haldir had quite the humor, she remembered the times when she would work her butt off in training and he would watch and eat apples. It certainly paid off though did it not? Calaereth thought to herself as she finished the apple and went to work in the house.

Days passed slowly for Calaereth as she waited and waited for Haldir to return with good news. She slept in his bed every night hoping she would wake up to find him sleeping peacefully next to her. She longed to feel his embrace once more. Calaereth glanced out a kitchen window, it was the middle of March, and things were beginning to warm up. Calaereth envied the animals that were completely oblivious to the war around them. How nice it must be to remain completely calm as the battle between evil and good waged on. Calaereth hoped Haldir would return home safely and soon, with good news.

The wait on the borders for the results of the Battle of Pelennor Fields was nearly killing Haldir. Haldir paced around the trees and watched cautiously for any messengers. Haldir knew that he was not the only one anticipating the message, everyone else was nervous. After a long two weeks of constant patrolling a rider approached the borders quickly. Haldir quickly set up a group to meet the rider as the man entered the woods. Haldir knew he was a messenger by the pouch that lay on the saddle of the horse. Haldir did not even have the men raise their arrows at the man in protection instead they just stared once the man saw them and stopped.

"What message do you bring?" Haldir asked maintaining a calm façade as his heart beat quickened. This was it.

"The Battle of Pelennor Fields has been won by Aragorn and his army. The ring has been destroyed. The Elves are invited to witness the crowning of Aragorn in early May. Middle-Earth is finally at peace." The man declared proudly.

It was as if a weight had been lifted from the elves' shoulders. For so long had they fought to destroy the darkness that crept closer to their doorsteps and hearts. For years they had slept uneasily at night, not sure if they would live another day. They could finally rest, and go where they were meant to finally retire. Across the sea, where their ancestors awaited their eventual return.

The elves let out sounds of relief and gave hugs and friendly pats on the shoulders to every soul around. Even to the foreign human who tried to escape the celebrations of the elves. He was dragged back against his will to have a few happy drinks and stay in a talan before heading to his next destination.

The mermaids were the next group to hear of the news. Their expressions of happiness were much more obvious and many of the elves watched with grins as the merpeople sang ancient songs and performed old dances. It was a memorizing sight for any elf to see, for the merpeople of Middle-Earth were very traditional. There was hardly any changes to their culture over the years, if any.

The celebrations went abound across Lothlórien as the word of the end of the war spread like wildfire. Haldir, was the one to bring the message to the Lord and the Lady who were greatly pleased and announced a victory feast would be held soon. Immediately after Haldir was dismissed, he ran all the way up the stairs and across the bridges to return to Calaereth. Not once did he pause for a break, he sprinted up the stairs to the talan door, and opened it quickly. The door swung open with the force applied by Haldir, but he did not look back to see if it shut behind him. His eyes scanned for the sight of his beloved, he found her at the table, looking up at him startled. She instantly stood up from the table when she saw how he stood frozen for a moment staring at her. Panic seized her, had the war been lost? Was the world to be destroyed by evil? Were they doomed?

"Haldir," Calaereth paused, "What happened?"

Haldir could hear the tremble in her voice, as she stared back at him nervously. "We won." Haldir grinned.

"We won?" Calaereth whispered, unsure whether she had heard him right.

"We won the war." Haldir grinned and approached a shocked Calaereth in a few long strides.

"We won the war!" Calaereth exclaimed in realization and welcomed Haldir's long arms that picked her up in a tight hug. Their joyous laughter mingled together as Haldir twirled her around for a moment before setting her back down. Haldir leaned down and kissed her gently before pulling away.

"We will have an eternity together." Haldir stated happily.

"Yes." Calaereth smiled, then, a thought occurred to her. "What is to happen to your job, Haldir?" Calaereth asked worriedly.

"I will still be at the borders, just in case of any escaping evils. As well as to make sure no one enters the woods who is not expected. But soon enough my job will no longer be needed, and we can sail to the west. Where we can live in eternal peace and harmony." Haldir assured Calaereth.

"That sounds wonderful." Calaereth traced his jaw, "So how about this wedding?" She said with a smirk.

Haldir and Calaereth were invited to the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen, and were also part of the ceremony on Mid-Year's Day.

Calaereth and Haldir were married May 25th 3020, under the golden trees of Lothlórien. It is remembered as the most beautiful wedding to be held in Lothlórien. Many say that the gods were in attendance of the wedding. But there was not just gods in attendance that day. The entire fellowship was there, including Gimli, much to Haldir's disagreement. There was also the Lord and Lady of Lothlórien as well as Aragorn, Arwen and other very notable elves. Also attending were the mermaids. Gaeralagos said goodbye to his beloved daughter. He cried for the first time in many years since the death of his wife. Calaereth herself could not help but shed a few tears during the ceremony as well. But they eventually moved on to the reception where there was laughter, music, memories shared, and wine consumed.

Finally Calaereth and Haldir departed for the Grey Havens along with Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Bilbo and Frodo on September 29th, of the year 3021. It is on the boat when Haldir express his sadness that he will miss the golden leaves of Lothlórien. Then Calaereth pulls out of her bag full of Mellorn tree seeds, the trees that grow golden leaves that Haldir cherishes so much. Haldir praises her intelligence and hugs her.

A beautiful elven woman walked across the a sandy beach her feet meeting the waves of the water that brushed up against her feet. Her hair was long and the color of gold. Her eyes were a deep brown filled with experience and age. Her face though remains young and beautiful. She is speaking in some sort of musical language to a creature in the water. She is speaking to a merman. Two mermen, one is older than the other. She laughs at something they say back in the language.

Then right at that moment the loud clumsy feet of young children approach. All three figures turn to look at the two children that run yelling the merpeople's names loudly. "Grandpa! Uncle!" They scream as the run into the water to hug the merpeople. Whose faces light up in genuine happiness at the sight of the young children.

The oldest of the two is a boy, his hair is already getting long and is the same silver-blonde shade of his father's. His eyes are the same steel-like silver of his father and already he displays great athleticism. The other is a younger girl, her hair is the much same silver-blonde but in natural curls. Her eyes are a deep brown, like her mother. She loves everything in nature.

The mother smiles at the sight and then turns when her name is called. "Calaereth!" It is her husband, Haldir. He grins at her and shakes his head at his children in the water, greeting their mermaid relatives. In his arms is a young baby, a boy with his wife's golden locks, and his silver eyes. The baby's eyes light up at the sight of his mother. Immediately he starts stretching out his arms for his mother. Calaereth cannot help but oblige to her youngest. She takes him from her husbands arms and smiles at the baby stroking him softly.

She feels a strong arm go around her shoulder and she held close to the body of her husband. Calaereth looks up at Haldir, who looks lovingly down at her. "They are debating changing the name of Grey Havens to Golden Havens because all of the Mellorn trees that have blossomed here." Haldir grins at her. "Orophin says his eye sare tired of the yellow."

"He is a liar. I know he loves it.' Calaereth giggled.

"Yes, perhaps he is just jealous of our happy ending." Haldir smirked.

"Yes, happily ever after.' Calaereth kissed him once more.

The family lived peacefully in the Grey Havens. The End.
