Chiro jumped when he thought the sound of rumbling went through the corridor again. His fists clenched tightly in response. But as quickly as the sound came, it softly disappeared back into the darkness.
'How long is this going to keep up for?'
It was then the corridor was lit up again, this time by a dull red light. It caught Chiro's attention immediately as the mechanical whirring, confirmed his suspicions. The TV robot was now online and very much alive. It straightened and stood immediately. Its screen remained blank; however it began to take steps towards the cell.
Chiro gulped stepping back. Any thoughts of escape had now been thrown out of the window. It was even taller than he first thought and its bulk also caused alarm to the boy. Backing up in his cell, he knew his options now. Sit and be a model prisoner.
As he begun this new role though he was in for another shock. The bars protecting him began to suddenly retract back into the bone ceiling. Slowly but carefully they opened, squeaking loudly as they did, revealing the cell intact.
"Oh… Shi… Shugazoom."
Panic began to set in. The robot was steadily making its way towards him and he had no protection at all. Not even the cell that held him captive.
"Move it or lose it Chiro." he said to himself as he saw an opportunity open up. The robot's girth was much smaller than his cell. Letting the robot near him, he quickly dodged out of its way as he sped towards the robot's right.
The force of the robot's arm hitting the ground beside him made the ground shake. Chiro was lucky to not lose his footing as the shock wave hit the surrounding area. Looking up and ahead, he ran for his life down the corridor.
The robot seeing his obvious miss began to walk steadily behind him; carefully herding him into the awaiting masses of formless.
Chiro thought he was doing well for about five seconds. His pace steadied when he saw the creatures up ahead. He just gawped; this was actually becoming a joke!
Memories suddenly flashed through his mind; Antauri destroying the first one of these creatures in the alleyway. Then a new memory flew through his hazy mind:
He was running through the woods. It had been a good hour since escaping the tin canned robot, and he was so far finding it relatively easy. As he approached another clearing he stopped to catch his breath. Sitting on a large, smoothed rock, he began to take his surroundings in. The light trickled in through the thick canopy above. The trees around here were numerous. Various species existed as well as many ground level plants and bushes. Leaf litter covered the floor in all directions. It was quiet, tranquil and peaceful; maybe too peaceful. It was then he realised something just didn't sit right. The sound of crunching leaves began to fill the air, slowly at first before speeding up. His first thoughts were the monkeys. Carefully closing his eyes he listened, but an absence of mechanical movement reached his ears instead. Opening his eyes he turned his head swiftly, standing in the process. He heard rustling. He could see the bushes moving! Instinctively he began to back away from the moving bushes, whatever it was, was most certainly here. Noises filled his ears now; it or they were surrounding him. Looking around frantically, his attention became fixed in front of him. A hurrying sound of footprints behind him made him turn quickly. But before he could catch even a glimpse, everything turned black.
Chiro skidded to a halt in front of the hoard. There were too many formless to count. Multiple rows of them were lined up in front of him blocking all the exits. But he couldn't even see any exits for that matter, let alone get to them.
Turning he could see the TV monster had finally caught up behind him too. He was surrounded. He was trapped. The situation looked bleak. Taking a deep breath to steady his nerves, he began.
"Alright. Who's in charge here?" Chiro demanded turning to the black robot. Maybe he could get answers or at least stall himself some time whilst he thought of an escape plan. He wasn't staying here! He wasn't going to accept defeat, he would rather die trying to break free.
The screen on the robot finally flickered into life. After the static cleared, the image finally revealed the face of the Skeleton King. An immense laugh rippled from the robot's speakers, making the boy gasp in response.
"Well, well, well. Greetings boy, it seems you have met with my little welcoming committee" the dark voice boomed.
'This is really bad!' Chiro thought to himself, he had never been this scared in his entire life! He was also trying to decipher exactly what the being on the screen was. 'Please say that robot is on the wrong channel' Chiro thought secretly crossing his fingers behind his back.
Suddenly another thought hit his mind. 'Hang on a minute, I'm not going to be second best'.
"My name's Chiro!" Chiro suddenly exclaimed surprising even himself. Trying to keep his cool composure was tough. His bold personality was definitely bowing under this stress. It would soon be visible too!
Skeleton King's laugh again erupted through the speakers as a response.
"Chiro is it, well, well your courage is quite impressive. Chiro… I believe it is time we had a proper introduction, my formless minions bring the boy to me!" Skeleton King announced as his image flickered off leaving the blank red screen on the TV monster.
"Formless minions?" Chiro repeated in a question, as he then turned to see the white creatures behind him beginning to move forward. "Oh they must be the…" Chiro began in understanding, before suddenly changing his mind, as his face dropped entirely when realisation kicked in - hard.
He was doomed!
