Tommy was annoyed that having Tara's body against his wasn't feeling as good as it should. He was having a hard time enjoying making out with a hot girl? What the fuck is wrong with him?!
He was sitting on the couch at some house party on campus, in a room crammed with people dancing, drinking, arguing or making out… he happened to be taking part in the latter. His hand was still holding onto a bottle of beer, when a drunken Tara climbed onto his laps. His first instinct had been to brush her off, but a more resentful part of him reminded him that he didn't owe it to anyone to push her off.
Fuck you, Lil.
"Tommy, babe, I feel like you've been ignoring me lately," She whined, wrapping her arms around his neck.
He smiled at her, "My bad, didn't know you were feeling ignored." He responded, as he took a gulp out of his bottle.
He noticed the way some of the guys watched him in envy, Tara was pretty hot. And while most guys spent their time and money pursuing her or buying her drinks, she climbed into a careless Tommy's lap.
"Tommy, you can take her to the room upstairs," A guy from the team offered encouragingly.
He laughed, "Nah, I'm good," He replied, as Tara pouted, he wasn't looking to hook up with her. Her hand pressed against his cheek and turned his face toward her, and he placed his beer on the side table beside him before holding her waist.
"C'mere," She slurred, before covering his mouth with hers.
And he didn't stop her.
Kimi was lying on the couch and Lil was sitting cross-legged on the seat watching a movie. They had decided to have a quiet Friday night in, with homemade dinner, bottle of wine, and a chick flick.
Half way through the movie Kimi laughed looking down at her phone. Lil turned around, "What's so funny?"
"Phil is so drunk at the house party the guys went to. His texts don't even make sense anymore."
"Oh yeah, who's the designated driver? Tommy?"
Kimi snorted, "As if!"
"So I'm guessing they took a cab." Lil concluded, shaking her head, "Honestly, every weekend it's the same thing!"
Kimi was grinning ear to ear as she texted back on her phone, and Lil watched her with a smile, "So why's Phil drunk texting you?"
Kimi looked up confused, "Whaa?"
Lil shook her head, "Who are you two even kidding? It's pretty obvious the amount of time you have been spending together. Either you're hanging out or constantly texting," Lil teased slyly, "What's going on between you and my brother huh?"
Kimi reddened, "I don't know, it's really weird huh?"
Lil shook her head, "Not weird at all!" She answered, before pausing the movie and turning around excitedly, "Spill!"
Kimi sighed, "I don't know Lil, it's just so… like… me and Phil? You know, I never would've expected that. But I love being around him. Like I always loved hanging out with him and he's always been one of my best friends, but recently it's been like… I don't know… weird, but a good weird." She shrugged, nervously.
"Kimi, are you saying you have feelings for my brother?" Lil questioned with wide eyes.
"I don't know, Lil! I just wanna be around him or with him all the time, and I love how special I feel when I'm around him, and how safe and comfortable I feel. But I don't even know if he feels anything different-…"
Lil almost choked on her drink, "Are you kidding me?"
Kimi looked at her oddly, "Why?"
"It's evident to even a random third person that Phil has feelings for you, only you have been oblivious to it!"
Kimi looked surprised, "What? Are you serious?"
Lil jumped up giddy, "I can't believe you finally realize that you and Phil have something!"
"Finally?"
"I've waited for this for years!" Lil grinned happily, before jumping on her.
Kimi laughed as Lil bear hugged her tightly, before checking her flashing screen, "Oh god, he won't stop telling me to come,"
"Really? Let's go to the party and tell him!"
"What! Now?" Kimi exclaimed.
"Yeah! I've watched my brother secretly pine over you far too long! I want him to know now!" Lil yelled excited, jumping up and heading to her room. Moments later she came back and threw a pair of jeans at Kimi, "C'mon Kim! Let's get this love story started!"
Kimi watched as Lil came out wearing a tank top and jeans as well, before pulling the clip out of her hair and letting it fall around her face, "Oh god, you're serious about going right now!"
Lil grinned, "Chop chop!"
Half an hour later they found their way inside the crammed house, and even though they were already a little buzzed from all the wine they'd been drinking, Kimi led them to the kitchen, "If I'm telling him, I'm definitely going to need a little more of this!" She said, pouring them both a shot.
Lil laughed, as they tapped their shots against each other's before throwing them down their throat. Lil cringed at the bitterness, and looked up to see a guy she didn't recognize grab Kimi's arm.
"Hey beautiful, wanna dance?" He smirked perversely. Lil raised her brow amused as Kimi shrugged his hand off her coldly.
"No thanks."
He clearly took her cold demeanour offensively, and his smile was quickly replaced with a frown, "What the fuck do you think you are?"
"You're clearly wasted, you're just embarrassing yourself now." Lil interrupted.
He ignored her and tried to step closer to Kimi again but by then Phil had spotted them and shoved the guy back, "Back the fuck up, bro." He warned.
The guy was surprised, "Oh shit, sorry didn't know you were together…" He muttered, and his words were barely distinguishable.
"Well we are."
The drunken guy backed up, and Phil turned to them, "I didn't know you two were coming." He said, with a half grin.
"I had to come; there was something I had to do." Kimi said, as they made their way to backyard so they could be heard over the loud music. Lil followed them to the doorway of the deck, but stopped there to give them privacy.
"What was it, Kim," He asked.
He was surprised when Kimi lightly pushed him to sit on the bench outside, "This." She said, before leaning down to press her lips against his. From where Lil was standing she noticed Phil's eyes widen in surprise.
"Kimi?" He whispered, blinking in surprise as she pulled away.
"I don't want you to be with anyone else." Kimi told him truthfully, "I'm sorry it took me so long to notice you. You were right in front of me all along, and I've finally realized what I have and how lucky I am."
There was a moment of silence, and Lil was almost afraid that Phil no longer felt the way she thought he did. Oh my god, what if I was wrong? What have I done?!
But Phil grinned ear to ear, his eyes shining in sincerity; this was the guy that had been secretly in love with Kimi since they were kids. He had stood quietly by as she had dated his best friend, only because he always wanted Kimis' happiness first and foremost.
He grabbed the back of her thigh and pulled her to him again, before capturing her lips with much more urgency and passion. Kimi climbed onto his lap and wrapped her arms around him as he stood up, causing Kimi to wrap her legs around him and he held her against him happily.
Lil felt herself tear up, fucking finally!
She stepped back into the house and grabbed herself another drink, leaving her brother and best friend to some privacy. She saw Eddy by the doorway talking to someone, and she cringed, her first instinct was to duck as she recalled ditching him at the formal.
Tough it out Lil. You owe him an apology.
She approached him sheepishly, "Hey Eddy, can I have a word?" She asked. She wouldn't have been surprised if he completely ignored her or rejected her –she deserved it.
But like the nice guy he was, he smiled at her and excused himself from his friends.
"Hey Cinderella," He teased.
Lil blushed in embarrassment, "I forgot to drop my heel,"
He laughed, "Yeah, I looked all over for it after the formal."
She was very grateful that he could make light of the situation, because this could've been a much more awkward conversation.
"Listen, I wanted to apologize for leaving abruptly that night, I know I was a really crappy date." Lil said sincerely, "The least I could've done was text you directly."
He nodded, "Very true! But its okay, nothing hurt but my ego. I ended up sharing the last few dances with Tara that night; she ended up alone too oddly enough. And I used to have a huge crush on her, so it wasn't a complete bummer,"
Isn't that a coincidence
"But she's clearly forgiven her date, so I guess I could too."
"What do you mean?"
He nodded in the direction of the family room, and Lil frowned, before excusing herself and pushing passed the cramped room full of drunken bodies. She scanned the room of people dancing and didn't spot him, she looked toward the group of jocks laughing and drinking by the doorway –he wasn't there either. That's when her eyes finally landed on the couple making out on the couch. He was wearing dark jeans and a plain white shirt, Lil was annoyed at the flutter of her heart at the sight of him. But his lap was being straddled by a scantily dressed Tara, who had her arms tightly around his neck and was devouring his mouth. One of his hands was planted on her waist, and the other on her bare thigh.
Lil didn't know if it was the alcohol, but she lost her shit. She stormed up to them, "Tommy!" She yelled.
When Tara pulled back and Tommy spotted her, she didn't give him time to react, before she spilled the contents of her cup at the top of his head. She could see the shock on his and Tara's face as the cranberry-vodka trailed down his face and onto his white shirt, "Screw you!" She spat, before storming out of the room, ignoring the surprised faces of the people in eye sight of the whole situation.
Her mind hadn't caught up with her yet, all she felt with the anger and feeling of betrayal as she stormed out of the front door and into the rain. She didn't bother calling a cab, she decided she'd rather just walk back to the god damn apartment.
But she didn't get too far down the street before she felt a strong hand encircle around her wrist and forcefully turn her around.
She was eye to eye with an angry Tommy Pickles.
"What the fuck was that?" He demanded, the rain matting the shirt against his body.
Great, this bastard gets to look hot even when she hated him.
"I can ask you the same thing!" She yelled, shoving him away from her. She was feeling light headed from the previous shot. Need to get home!
"You can't ask me shit! Who are you to get pissed about me making out with a girl? You're not my fucking girlfriend!" He yelled back.
"Fuck you Tommy Pickles!" She said angrily, turning to leave when he grabbed her arms and pulled her back.
"Who do you think you are? You are the one that decided you were done with me, you walked away from me!" He growled in her face.
She struggled in his hold, but to no avail, she knew there was no justification of why it angered her so much and she had no right to throw the drink at him. But she was way too angry to own up to her fault.
"I hate you!" She yelled, holding back tears. Her wet hair clinging to her face now, and she was sure her eyeliner must be all messed up.
He chuckled coldly, "You're a fucking emotional wreck. You don't know how to deal with your fucking feelings, so don't hate me for not standing idly by while you played the game of hot and cold with me."
She glared at him and tried to push him off her, "Let me go, asshole!"
His grin tightened, "No, I'm not letting you run away from this. Why did you just throw your drink at me? Why are you so fucking upset at seeing me with Tara, huh? WHY!" He demanded.
She felt like her heart was going to explode; it was pounding so hard against her chest that it was deafening.
"BECAUSE I CAN'T STAND YOU KISSING ANYONE ELSE BUT ME!" She yelled, finally shoving him away from her, "I can't stand to see you with her! I feel betrayed and cheapened." She finally admitted, tears now flowing freely down her face.
"Why Lil, why!" he pushed, trying to get her to open up to her feelings.
She turned away from him, unable to look at those intense eyes that bore into her. She tried to wipe her eyes, but he stepped in front of her again, "Lil, why can't you stand to see me with her, why does it anger you so much?!"
"BecauseI want to be with you." She cried, trying to walk past him but he'd block her path.
"So why can't you be with me, Lil?" He questioned, pulling her against him and looking down at her. The rained poured down on their bodies, she stood there against his chest and wrapped in his arms, their clothes clinging to their bodies.
She wanted this moment to freeze right here. It had been two weeks since their talk –since she's been in his arms. She couldn't lie to herself; she missed him every single day they had been apart. The feeling of him against her, the way his eyes looked into her, the way he made her feel.
"Lil, I care about you a lot, I miss you. Why can't we let this be what it's meant to be? It's been months since the breakup, why are we still scared to be together? Everyone's moved on." He whispered.
Lil knew he was right, but he didn't know what she's been through. Why she runs away from her feelings.
"Tommy, I'm broken." She whispered against him, "I can't be in a relationship. "
He frowned, "What do you mean?"
"I just can't. I care about you a lot, and I want to be with you. But it's unfair to you, because I know how you feel… and you deserve a proper relationship, but I can't be that person for you. I have been completely destroyed in a relationship before, I have lost my sleep and my happiness, I'm just broken," she sobbed.
Before he could question her further, she pulled away from him and back away. He stepped forward but she put her hand out stopping him, "If you care about me, please just let me go." She pleaded.
"But Lil-…"
"Tommy, please."
She could see the questions and sadness in his eyes, but she back away from him. She wrapped her arms around her aching self, and walked away.
I'm so sorry, Tommy.
