Lost At Sea - Zedd ft Ryan Tedder.

Chapter 31: Lost at sea

Naomi PoV

I was restlessy walking around my room, picking up things before shoving them down into a small bag I dragged along. The tunes my new phone was playing from the dock had me humming under my breath. I picked up a light cotton somewhat see-through blouse, and found it suitable to wear over my bikini. I packed it down too, before slipping into my bathroom and finding a hair elastic to slip around my wrist for tomorrow morning.

The song picked up its beat as I moved to my bed to pet Tiger for a bit before heading off. I swear to god that cat almost never left that place. It's a miracle I even was allowed to sleep there with her, let along Emily.

"Naomi!" my mum called out for me as I heard her stomping down the stairs.

"In here!" I shouted back, startling Tiger a bit. I sighed, trying to sooth her again.

"Oh, there you are love. I just saw Cooks boat coming in the strait, so I'm guessing you're heading off now?" mum came into my room, wearing almost nothing as usual. The only thing that was good about summer coming to an end was that she may actually dress decently with the oncoming cold.

"Yeah." I agreed, fishing my phone out of the dock and shutting it off.

"Oh, come here dear." mum had me suddenly enveloped in a hug that surprised me.

"Have somebody died?" I asked uncertainly. Mum knew I wasn't the one for such endearments, so something must surely be wrong.

"Of course not, love. I was just going to tell you to be careful." she broke off the hug and grinned at me, discretely checking out what I had packed in my small bag.

"Mum, it's just one night. You didn't bat an eyelash when I disappeared to Barcelona. It was even you that sent me!" I exclaimed.

"I know, but take care of yourself, yeah? And look after Emily." she said caringly. I rolled my eyes.

"She's not a leaf that's going to be shattered any minute, she's well capable of looking after herself."

"Don't pitterpatter me. I only meant that she's so skinny and small that one. Keep her warm, I reckon the smallest of breezes would set her off into a shiver. It can get cold at night."

"That sounds a bit overprotective and this degrade of motherliness is a bit unnerving." I said, making a grimace.

"Nonsense, it's never too late for me to start squashing you with love." mum grinned even wider.

"Right." I frowned at her, overly ready to get out of here and my suddenly stir-crazy mum. I swiftly moved past her and out to the hall to step into my shoes. She came after me, hands on her hips.

"You will be careful, won't you?"

"Yes mum," I sighed, "can I go to my friends now?" I asked irritated.

"Oh Naomi, my baby!" mum cooed and moved in for another hug. I instinctively backed away.

"What now?"

"You have friends and a beautiful girlfriend. I'm so proud of you!" there were almost tears welling up in her eyes at this point. I heard the boat bell from Cooks boat chiming out loud.

"I'm going." I said with a pointed stare at her, before heading outside.

"Have fun, dear!" she yelled after me. I rolled my eyes again. I was so done with her random burst of 'proud-mother' syndrome.

"Naomio!" Cook shouted from the dock. His head was through the roof window where he was smoking a cigarette. "Ready for the last hurrah?"

"Yeah." I smiled, and walked to the back of the boat, where Freddie helped me getting on board. I was the last one they picked up before going on our excursion.

I had already felt my body starting to tingle from when mum said the boat had arrived. I was almost used to it now, this inescapable feeling of anticipation whenever I neared her. I knew what was waiting for me inside the boat, and a ridiculous grin formed on my lips the moment my feet hit the deck. I knew that when I turned around that corner and walked inside, she would be sporting the same look as me, because that's how it were now. And surely enough, when I caught eye of her amidst all the others, everything faded away but her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. All the other greetings was left unnoticed as I moved to sit beside her on the place she surely secured was free for me. My fingers were almost twitching from wanting to touch her warm skin. Not in a sexual way, just in a loving way. Her touch was the most precious thing I had.

"Hey lobster." I said as I sat down beside her, still keeping our eye lock. She smiled, if possible, even brighter.

We had watched quite a lot of friends episodes lately, and one day, seemingly out of nowhere, I started to call her my lobster. She thought I was just taking the piss out of her hair color, but when she was making me promise to never call her that again while she had me on a brink of an orgasm, I came clean about the real reason that was her nickname. That I took it from the friends episode about lobsters mating for life. I could see how touched that made her, and I earned an overly happy Emily for the rest of the week.

"Hey beautiful." she answered back, before leaning in to kiss me. I heard Katie gag from somewhere.

"Seriously, keep it down on the mushiness while we're in so close proximity, yeah? Or you're getting my breakfast in your face." she complained grumpily.

"Fuck off Katie." Emily grinned, and mashed her side into mine as we turned back to the rest of the people.

It was the last weekend before college started again, and Cook had decided for us to go on a beach party, just the gang, on a desert island further south. Emily told me that the beach we were going to was the nicest for miles around, but I didn't believer her one bit. No beach could ever beat our beach. But it was a nice way of spending our last night of freedom, as tomorrow was sunday - and monday was first day of college.

The twins made a last grimace at each other, before Emily leaned her head on my shoulder. I knew it was just an act of teasing, that Katie was really okay with us. In the last couple of days they had put up an united front against their mum. Katie surprisingly saying that she wouldn't take the money for uni as long as Jenna was so rude to Emily. I was staring open-mouthed at Emily when she told me, but it was soon taken over by a huge grin and a squeal. Katie Fucking Fitch was golden sometimes. Emily had also threatened to never come home to visit after college was done if that was how it was going to be. Jenna was already cracking, and by the time we were going to leave for uni, I was sure of that Emily didn't just have a acceptance from her mother, but also money in her bag to study what she was great at and wanted. Jenna was a hard nut, but by time she would be completely cracked. Everything was working out fine.

"Don't be a spoilsport Katie, just let them keep going at sucking each other faces off." Cook replied from the front.

"I would've said thanks, but I know you're only saying that so you can perve." I said back to him.

"You know me so well." he said, lifting his pilot sunglasses up and down in a manner that looked like he was flirting. I bit the inside of my cheeks not to laugh and shook my head at him in amusement.

The boat ride to the small island we were spending the night was no longer than half an hour, which I spent mostly just cuddling Emily. It's not that I was suffering from withdrawal from not seeing her since yesterday (but I kind of were), it was just that it wasn't often we spent a night apart these days. Figured I had to get more used to it when college started up again though.

We anchored up in the bay of a large beach. And, just like I expected, I didn't find it as appealing as me and Emily's beach. Although I figured nothing would beat the memory I had out there. I had to remind myself to ask Emily to go back there soon. There were surprisingly few other boats there, considering they said that this was also the most popular beach for day excursions. We had plenty of space to set up our 'camp'. Cook had brought with a small rowing boat that we used to transport everyone and what they brought with them over to the sand.

Everyone helped to make a big bonfire that was meant to burn all day and all night. Folding chairs had also been brought, so no one had to sit on the sticky sand. We had plenty of coolers with beers and ciders in them. There were also hotdogs and marshmallows one could barbecue on the big fire. JJ and Thomas had brought two disposable grills to make some steaks on for later.

As soon as the camp was up and going, Pandora threw of all of her clothes - except her bikini - and ran for the sea.

"Come on guys, it's whizzer warm! Can someone bring my inflatable turtle?" Pandora shouted from the deep part. Emily rolled her eyes and chuckled, stripped off her shorts and shirt, certainly getting my attention with that, and walked down to the edge, throwing the floating animal out to Pandora. She turned to me as Katie and Cook ran past her into the water, silently asking me to join with a raised eyebrow. I had just opened a fresh can of cider, and held it up as an explanation for me lagging behind a bit. Emily shrugged at me and went wading out towards the others. They made a lot of noise, that's for sure. Effy's voice broke through their giggles and my perving at Emily.

"I wonder how much of your day you spend perving on her." she said. I turned to her with a smirk, she was sat in the chair beside me.

"Not enough, believe me." I grinned playfully. She nudged me before offering me a cigarette. Freddie moved past us to get into the water too.

Emily was stood to her thighs in water, talking to Katie about something, facing away from me, and naturally my sight fell to her bottoms. I wasn't even kidding when I considered them the greatest I've ever seen. It was not a biased opinion of her, because that arse was down right sexy. I knew I had scored myself an incredibly good looking girlfriend, so I was allowed to drink her in as I knew I was the only one allowed to touch her. It was not that I was objectifying her either, but a girl had desires.

"That is a nice butt." Effy commented from beside me while nodding. I looked questioningly at her, but figured she must've seen my line of sight. "Not as nice as Freddie's though." she smirked. I smirked back at her.

"We're lucky." I said as Emily turned and gave me a dazzling smile.

"Too true, blondie."

"I never really said it, but you and Freddie are cute together. You really fit each other." I said to Effy, feeling the need to voice it. She blew out a steady stream of smoke.

"He's good for me, yeah. But have you turned to jello? I didn't think you'd be drunk for another at least." she grinned unnervingly.

"Oh, fuck you." I shoved her arm while giggling. I don't know what Emily was doing to me, but she was certainly making me open up more.

"I've never seen her like this. This happy." Effy commented casually from beside me, taking me back to the first night I met her.

"Yeah? I don't think I've ever been as happy as I am now either." I smiled, keeping my eyes fixed on my redhead.

"Yeah, for once you're not pushing people away anymore."

"And you've been cutting down on the riddles." I shot back at her, earning me a real smile in return.

"So what do you think? Has the dust settled?"

"If you're meaning if I'm sure of what I want, then yes. But I'm not sure the dust will ever settle as I have Emily, the hurricane, in my life." I smirked.

"Emily, the hurricane?" Effy asked me questioningly.

"Yeah…" I trailed off, blushing slightly. "It's not a bad thing, it's just…" I couldn't have myself word it.

"Ooooh." Effy realised, looking knowingly at me. "You're talking the bedroom language." I blushed even harder.

"It's not just that, it's… she makes my life more exiting. More lively, you know?" I tried to explain away.

"Good try, you mean she's good in the sack." Effy was talking confidently, obviously knowing how it would effect me.

"She is, but…" I was cut off by Emily suddenly stopping in front of me, dripping from the sea.

"Come on, Naoms. You're missing out while the water is still hot from the sun." Emily said, dragging me up from the chair. I complied, and wrenched out of my clothes. When I turned back to Effy, she was still looking at me with that knowing smirk. She raised an eyebrow as to say that we were done with the teasing conversation. But just for now.

I let Emily drag me out into the sea, trying to suppress my fright for getting bit in the toe by whatever sea animals was down there. We swum around and messed around in the water for most part of the day, sometimes taking breaks to tan for a bit. When everyone was thoroughly hungry from moving around all day, we gathered around the fire as the sun was about to set, digging in on whatever there were. Emily pouted to loan one of my shirts to get warm in and laze around in, and since I luckily had packed an extra, sensing that this was going to happen, she was soon wrapped up a gigantic green shirt with a flowery skirt under. I had also opted for the same style, a white thick whoolen shirt along with a yellow skirt. It was really cozy, being gathered with the gang like this. We ate and drank and joked around. They recounted stories from older school years which had me in hysterics of some of them. Especially one where Freddie, JJ and Cook had sat one locker on fire and then accidentally managed to put the blame on Emily as she was casually walking by when one of the teachers found out. She was still grumpy about it to this date, but she was luckily not expelled. There were also some slutty Katie stories that Cook told while he was actively being hit by an angry twin, trying to stop him from spelling out every embarrassing detail about her.

As we had gotten quite a few pints in us, Thomas fished his guitar out and started playing songs we all could sing along to. So while the day turned to night, we drank even more and sang and just had a really great going-back-to-school party. It was more fun than what I was expecting. I had never looked forward to school because of the people there before, but ending in the same form as this bunch of idiots was actually appealing. Of course I would miss these reckless days of summer, but some sort of normality would be good to the turbulence life I'd had recently. I wrapped my hand around Emily and kissed the side of her head at this thought, in the middle of a song, which earned me a smile from her.

I wouldn't trade this turbulence for anything.

It got later and later into the night, and drunk people were dropping down around us like flies. Cook and JJ were lying on a grass patch a bit behind us, too drunk to count. That was always the case with Cook, going at it too hard. And JJ, well, he couldn't stomach much. Katie was lying a bit further away, scowling at her phone which she held over her face, obviously trying to read something or do something on it. Pandora was leaning up against Thomas, who was surprisingly still sitting upright and plucking a bit on the strings of the guitar. Pandora was mumbling something incoherent with half closed eyes. Effy and Freddie had knicked off with her being wrapped in his arms, not unlike mine and Emily's position. The fire was still burning, but barely. There were stars above us, surrounding the bright and shining moon. I stared at it for a while, and saw it go blurrier and blurrier as I was slowly falling asleep. There were still a buzz in my head from all the alcohol and laughter. It had been a great night with great friends. I would certainly remember it for a long time.

As I was about to give in to sleep, Emily suddenly raised from my embrace and yanked me by my hand.

"What the fuck?" I asked sleepily, looking at her with unfocused eyes.

"Let's walk along the beach." she smiled adorably. As I couldn't say no to that face, I stood up and intertwined our fingers, instantly feeling more awake while standing.

She lead us down to the dark beach, only being visible because of the thousands of stars in the cloudless sky above us. She stretched her neck and looked upwards as we waded shoeless in the oncoming waves a bit. As she looked at the stars, I looked at her face. And for the millionth time, I couldn't for the life of me understand how I was hers and she was mine. I stepped in front of her and guided her face to mine so I could kiss her deeply when the urge became to much. We sighed into the kiss, the familiarity with each other making a protected bubble around us. Her lips glided effortlessly against mine, and they created bliss like always. Kissing her was simply happiness.

"You know…" I started as we broke off. She looked up at me with stars reflecting in her eyes, making her even more beautiful in my opinion. "When I moved out here, I was sure this was going to be the worst year of my life, but you know what?"

She shook her head, shifting her eyes between my eyes and my lips. My hand softly caressed her cheek and jawline.

"You've already made this to the best year of my life."

I saw something massive flicker inside her eyes at that, probably mirroring my own. She looked at me like I was the only one who existed, the only one for her. More now than ever. I was about to lean down and kiss her with all my might again as she suddenly laid her pointy finger on my lips.

"Wait here." she whispered, before sprinting back to our little camp. I stood confused left behind and looked at her as she whispered something in Thomas' ear. He nodded at her with a grin, before she turned around and came walking back down to me with an illuminating smile on her face. I couldn't help but smile back.

"What was that all about?" I asked quietly. She only grinned wider, not giving me an explanation.

Suddenly Thomas sat more upright and started to play more properly on his guitar, glancing down to where we was. I looked at him with raised eyebrows until Emily took my hands in hers. She placed one of my hands on her shoulder, and gripped me around the waist. Then she started leading me back and forth. We were dancing. I looked at her surprisingly, and immediately tried to match my steps with hers, not making a fool of myself.

"We get it on most every night
When that moon is big and bright"

I gasped as I heard the sweet voice of Emily singing beautifully. I had no idea she could sing, I had only heard small snippets that really didn't give me a good enough idea. She kept the beat with her steps and the way her head gently kept bopping from side to side.

"It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight"

Suddenly she steered me into a pirouette, which made me giggle. She drew me tight into her body, moving us a bit faster around in a ring as she sang into my ear. Her delicious husk made shivers run down my spine.

"Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they dont bite
They keep things loose they keep it tight
Everybodys dancing in the moonlight"

She swung me under her arm again, and then tested out a few other dance moves that made me almost trip in the sand. We both chuckled at it. She raised the volume on her voice a bit as the chorus begun, closing her eyes as she got lost in the song.

"Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybodys dancing in the moonlight"

I couldn't keep my eyes of her as she kept leading us around, she was so breathtaking and confident. Her hands naturally settled around my neck, and mine settled around her waist as we kept looking into each others eyes, slowly swaying from foot to foot. She didn't sing any further, but soon enough Thomas picked up on it, and sang the rest of the song in an hushed and unhurried voice as we continually slow danced under the stars on a beach, completely lost at sea. And lost in each others eyes.

Undoubtedly there would be challenges ahead for us, but that could wait. College could wait. Tomorrow could wait. Right now I just wanted to dance the night away with my lobster while all our friends were scattered around us. Just dance, and be happy. With my love.

Because I was certain of one thing. Whatever the future held, we would face it together.

THE END.

I can't believe it's finished. Thanks to everyone who has been along for the ride! It's been a right roller coaster, don't you agree? I don't think I could've ever finished it without your ongoing reviews and messages. Thanks times a million for that. No really, I love you. Every single one of you. You made this story what it was, and you helped me shape it. And now it is finished, there for you to enjoy again and again (if you feel it's worth rereading, of course).

I want to especially thank my faithful reviewers. You know who you are. You rock.

Okay, I'm not leaving you quite yet, I have one more thing I want to share regarding this story, which is a playlist! I'm going to post it on tumblr too, accompanying a complete spotify list.

Every chapter title is from a song or lyric. Not all the songs fits perfectly to the chapters, and that's because I've just taken an extract I feel tell it all in itself.

There's also other songs that's either playing in the story, or that I have gathered lyrics from and inserted in the story.

I obviously don't remember where everything is from though, and some of the songs I've taken the titles from is not fitting, so there may be some missing links!

Here we go:

I spy - Mikhael Paskalev. The title for the whole story came from me misinterpreting the chorus. It's a really good song though, and if you interpret the lyrics my way *wink*, you can display it to the story.

Cotton Eye Joe - Rednex. Kierans song choice. The ultimate Hillbillie tune, making Naomi looking even less forward to this new step in her life! Maybe it tells us something about the craziness that awaits?

Addicted to you - Avicii, title for chapter 3. Doesn't need much explaining, I reckon?

Try - Zach Berkman, what Effy says to Naomi, that riddle thing, that's from this song. Also, this song comes back later in the story when Emily and Naomi make up that thunderous night. Can you spot the lines from the lyrics that I used there?

Changes - 2pac, chapter 5. Just used the title of the song here, but the song is so good and important that I'm adding it:) I think Naomi would be happy for that!

Life in technicolor - Coldplay, chapter 8. Used it for the title, and it is fitting for the last bit of the chapter.

Moves like jagger - Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera, plays at the party at Cooks. Background music.

Hurricane - The Fray, chapter 9. Killer song. As previously explained: says how Naomi sees Emily through the chapter.

We run the night - Pitbull/Havana Brown, playing while Naomi and Emily is dirty dancing.

Closer - Tegan and Sara, chapter 10. Love this song. Fits to the flirty tone of the chapter.

All Around The World - Justin Bieber. Katie controlling the music in the car on the way to Homde. I couldn't make myself put one of his worst songs in, haha.

Call Me - Shinedown. The lyrics Naomi dedicates to Emily on the small pier in Homde is from this song. The melody of the song tells us how tragic Naomi is really feeling inside.

Show me - Team me, chapter 12. Another great song. The line "And I'm playing with a dangerous flame again." is so fitting. This song also comes back later in the story. When Naomi sends that message to Emily when she's in France.

To be with you - Mr Big. The song Naomi listens to when she lays in bed after the eventful weekend in Homde.

A perfect day - Danny Cope. The beach scene. One of the most beautiful songs I know of.

All of you - Betty Who, chapter 15. Great song again! It really suits Emilys PoV when Naomi dumps her.

Find You - Zedd/Matthew Koma/Miriam Bryant. Emily dances to this in her bathroom. Gosh, this list has so many good songs! It's an electrical song, makes your pulse going.

Mustang Sally - The CommitmentsEmily also listens to this in her bathroom.

Just Say Yes - Snow Patrol. Emily listens to this on her way to the store. Glides right in with the gorgeous weather and Emily's light mood.

Since Last Wednesday - Highasakite, chapter 16. Just took the title from this. Describes how little contact there has been between our two girls. Nice song though.

Holocene - Bon Iver. When Effy answers Naomi on the phone with "You fucked it, friend"? Yep, that's from this song. Naomi also plays it the night after they finally told each other 'I love you'. Just after the Backstreet boys song. This is one of my favorite songs.

Hold My Hand - The Fray. The song Naomi sends to Emily. Explains everything she's feeling perfectly, I couldn't miss the chance of weaving it into the story.

Someone Like You - Adele. Emily listens to this at the industry, which makes her run out in tears. Ultimate heartbreak song, indeed.

Hearbreak Dream - Betty Who, chapter 20. Basically.

X & Y - Coldplay. One of Naomi sad songs for when Emily is gone. She hears it through the bathroom door.

Shower - Becky G. Emily dancing about lost in her own world to this song. Yeah, I can totally see it.

Specks - Matt Pond PA, chapter 24. Also, Naomi and Emily in the end of the chapter is very fitting to this.

Bleik og sur - Katastrofe. It's a norwegian song, I know, but the line about Cooks equipment needing a big roof, it's from this song. And even though you don't understand what they're singing (it's mostly bullshit anyway), it's a great party song.

Who let the dogs out - Baha Men. The boat party craziness starts! Cook is on fire.

Man! I feel like a woman - Shania Twain. The most ultimate chick party song ever.

99 Problems - Jay Z. The epic Z is in the house. Boat parties have the best playlists.

Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis. People inside the boat goes mad.

Livin la vida loca - Ricky Martin. Some of Katie's taste gotta come on too.

Money for Nothing - Dire Straits. There is very few parties I've been to where this haven't been played.

Macarena - Los Del Rio. Everyone knows this!

Hey Ya! - OutKast. Makes your hips sway. 'Lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor!'

Love me again - John Newman, chapter 26. Simply Emily who wants them to go back to how they were.

Higher Love - James Vincent McMorrow, chapter 27 title is from this. Soul-nursing song.

Whatsername - Green Day. Naomi listening to this on maximum volume as Effy comes in.

How Long Will I Love You - Ellie Goulding. Romantic setting - check!

Swimming in your ocean - Crash Test Dummies. Oh god, hahaha… This is the song Naomi sing along to. Just imagine her trying to imitate his voice while going down on Emily! I think it's hilarious!

I want it that way - Backstreet Boys. Naomi getting overly cheesy on Emily.

Tenerife Sea - Ed Sheeran. Emily's hair is like in this song in Barcelona. When they exit the hotel to experience the city. I feel it describes the love these two feel for each other by now.

My Kind of Love - Emeli Sande, chapter 29. Title is from the song.

Rude - Magic!, chapter 30. Kinda show how Naomi is trying to win over the family. Not for Emilys hand in marriage however, but still nerve wrecking for her.

Lost at Sea - Zedd / Ryan Tedder, chapter 31. Naomi is finally lost at sea. With Emily by her side. Maybe not so bad after all?

Dancing in the moonlight - Toploader. The ending theme. Perfect way to round off the story in my opinion, our two lovebirds dancing the night away to fine guitar tunes and the sound of waves. Had this song choice planned out since the start.

Thanks for hanging around, I appreciate you guys! Hope you discovered some new songs in here. I, for one, think that finding new songs is one of the best things there is.

Sorry for making you think this was a crazy long chapter. But I felt good leaving you with that short, sweet ending. Just what our girls needed.

So on that note, I'll see you soon(ish). Take care.

- M xXxXx

(Told you I was going to make her eat those words, didn't I?)
