Chapter 5: How to Rock a Relationship: Part I
It was a normal day at Brewster High when Kacey approached Zander, Kevin, and Nelson by the lockers. She kissed Zander on the lips like she did every time they see each other and Kevin and Nelson imitated gagging sounds like they always do when said kisses occurred.
"Where's Stevie?" questioned Kacey, noticing that said girl was ruining the normalness of their day with her absence.
"Right here," Stevie grumbled walking up to them, a scowl on her face and the look to kill in her eyes, "Stupid Grace made me drop my phone in the toilet!" She held up a Ziploc bag with her phone inside, "When I get my hands on her, I'm going to rip every strand of that pretty blonde hair from her skull!"
"You will do no such thing to the future Mrs. Nelson!"
"Whatever! Zander can I borrow your phone to call my mom and let her know my phone is toast?"
"Sure no problem," he let go of Kacey's hand to reach in his pocket, he handed over the phone, "I'll be in the band room, when you're finished," he turned to Kacey, "we really have to finish working on that song." Kacey beamed, "I almost forgot! This is going to be amazing," she sang while hopping in place, much to Zander's amusement.
"Wait, what song," Stevie asked.
"Well I thought it would be a great idea if me and Kacey sung a duet together for our gig tonight at homecoming."
"I mean it would have to be after they crown king and queen because we're the hottest, most talented couple at Brewster high, so the throne is ours but I love the idea." Zander smiled lovingly and took her hand in his.
"I love it when you're conceited," he kissed her cheek and they told the others bye before leaving to start on their new song.
"Ugh, they are so in love it makes me sick," Stevie scoffed to the remaining two band members while dialing her mom's number.
"I don't know, I think it's sweet, when Grace and I finally get together I want us to be as happy as they-" a chime and Stevie's sharp gasp made him pause. Stevie stared down at the phone incredulous.
"Stevie what?" Kevin asked.
"Zander's cheating on Kacey!" she showed them the screen of Zander's phone and neither of them could believe what they were reading!
"I'm going to kill him," Kevin bellowed.
"I'll help!" Nelson declared, lifting his hand high, they high fived each other and started to walk off in search for Zander.
"Guys wait," Stevie ran in front their path, "We can't just go barging into the band room and beat the crap out of him. Think about Kacey, she'll be crushed and embarrassed. We have to go about this the right way."
"How?" Stevie didn't know how to answer his question; she just couldn't believe that Zander was capable of this. And who was the girl? She looked down at the message again; hoping it changed but nope it was the same.
From: Lindsay
I miss u 2 sweetie, Can't wai 2night!
"Okay what do you have so far?" Zander asked Kacey, they decided to each write lyrics for the rest of the song on their own and put them together later and while Zander's page was full of lyrics and ideas, Kacey managed to draw an outfit. She showed him this and he chuckled, "That doesn't look like a song."
"True," Kacey admitted, "but it does look like my amazing dress that I will be wearing for Homecoming."
"You'll be gorgeous."
"Thanks babe," she put the notebook done and gave him a peck on the lips, "So what do you have so far?" He smiled, picked up his ukulele and strummed a few chords before opening his mouth to sing.
I feel the breeze on my face
Feel it warm like the kisses
That you kiss on my face
Can't replace what you give me
When we touch
It's too much such a rush
Whenever you are near
It's like a song with no end
As we bend to the rhythm
Of the sun and the earth
And the moon and the stars
Are all aligned
Just for us can't pretend
That you don't feel it too
And I feel
Your lips so inviting
Your body's so enticing
And I can't even start
To count the ways that I love you
He strummed some more notes, and then looked at her expectantly. A blushed stained her brown cheeks, and a knowing smile caused his heart to race a little.
"So.. uh what do you think," he gulped as she leaned in close, "uhm about the song?"
"I think," she murmured, "that you are incredibly sexy and an amazing songwriter," she leaned in more and captured his lips with hers. His hand gripped her side hard as he pulled her closer and Kacey wrapped herself around him. A burning feeling had settled inside her stomach when Zander sung to her and kissing him now had spread that feeling throughout her body. She was hot, and Zander felt like ice against her skin, shocking and soothing at the same time. She could have stayed like this with him forever.
"Kacey I need… oh wow, I'm sorry!" squeaked a surprised Stevie, the couple jumped apart, fixing their attire and wiping their mouths, embarrassed.
"I'm sorry, I'll come back if you want."
"No it's fine, you needed something?" Kacey asked.
"Well I actually need to talk to you," she mumbled, "Alone." Kacey noticed a worry look in Stevie eyes and knew it was important.
"Okay," she looked at Zander expectantly. He groaned, not only was their hot make out session interrupted but he had to leave too, he rolled his eyes, kissed Kacey one last time hoping she'd changed her mind then left.
"So what's up?"
"Does the name Lindsay mean anything to you?" Stevie began not knowing how to go about this but figuring that was a good place to start.
"Well not really, but there's like five Lindsays in our grade alone. Why?"
"Does Zander know them?" she continued. Kacey chuckled confused, "I wouldn't know, we all knew he was a flirt before we got together so it's possible, Stevie what are you trying to say?"
"Here!" she finally said not knowing what else to do but give her best friend her boyfriend's phone with the horrid message on the screen. Kacey read the message and her heart skipped a beat, she shook her head in disbelief.
"This can't be his phone," she said aloud but it was more to herself then to Stevie, she went to his home screen and sure enough his smiling face and hers were staring back at her. She remember they both look great that day and demanded he snap a selfie of them together and than they agreed to make it both their screen savers. The picture always made her smile but now it put her stomach in knots.
"But Zander wouldn't," she began, looking at Stevie for some explanation, "he wouldn't right?" At that moment Kacey Simon looked broken, but then she looked back at the phone and anger filled her. She chucked the phone against the wall where it broke into two pieces. She grabbed Stevie's hand and began to drag her out the room.
"Kacey where are we going?"
"To find Lindsay!"
