Disclaimer: I own nothing except Evangeline, who is faced by Selena Gomez (with blue eyes)
Author's Note: So, I've been gone a while...Like you know a long time, my life has been hectic as hell. But here's a chapter for Evangeline.
Thank You: To everyone who reviewed and waited so patiently for this update. I'll try to update as much as I can when I'm free, promise. It might be every two to three days, or even every week, but I'll update each of my stories every week, at least twice.
Night of the comet.
I walked downstairs, blood bag in hand and my bag over my shoulder and came face to face with Damon.
"Hi" He said, I licked my lips, and ignored him, going to walk past him but he stopped me from going anywhere. "Oh come on Evie"
"Get out of my way, jackass, before I snap your neck"
He smirked down at me, his eyes twinkling. "You remember New York 1990?"
"Yeah" I said raising my eyebrows "The year you promised you wouldn't leave me on my own. Ever. And the year before you up and left me to fend for myself How could I ever forget?"
He rolled his eyes "You hold such a grudge"
"You've been holding a grudge against your brother for a century and a half. I hope you know where I get it from. And that I won't ever forgive you for it"
"Yeah you will"
"Like I said" I stood straight, narrowing my eyes "Out of my way, before I snap your neck" With that I slapped the blood bag into his hand and barged past him, heading for the door and stopped. I turned and he was looking at me. "Hey Uncle Stefan, hurry up. The house is starting to get depressing"
Damon was gone by the time Stefan came down the stairs and he rolled his eyes and followed me out.
"I heard your conversation"
"So?" I asked slamming the car door shut.
"He is your-"
"Stefan" I snapped and he nodded.
"Sorry"
SCHOOL
Having ditched most of my morning classes, I was sitting on the grass, drawing when I heard it.
"Hey, Tyler. Hey, I'm sorry to interrupt. I was just wondering how Vicki's doing, since you guys are so close. Is she ok?"
Jeremy.
I looked up and seen him, not to far from Tyler. I narrowed my eyes. Jeremy sure was persistent.
"She's fine. Now get out of here" Tyler said and I got to my feet.
"How bad is she? Do they know what attacked her? Is she going to make a full recovery? Was she happy to see you? What room number was she in?"
I hadn't even noticed I was walking until I stopped just a few yards behind Jeremy.
"I'm gonna kick your ass" Tyler said.
"Yeah, you keep saying that, but when are you actually going to do it? Huh? 'Cause I vote for right here and right now" Jeremy said and he shoved him.
"Walk away, Gilbert. It's your final warning" Tyler said.
"No, this is your final warning, dick. I'm sick of watching you play Vicki. If you hurt her one more time, I swear to God, I will kill you" Jeremy said and he turned, barging past me.
"Damn, that was like a death threat. Did you hear that?"
"You realize he's serious, right?" I asked and Tyler and the girls looked at me.
"You know, nobody asked you"
I smirked "Nobody really asked for you either, but here you are"
"I don't hit girls" Tyler said and the other girls scurried away. "But for you, I could make an exception"
I raised my eyebrows "Is that a threat?"
"Yeah"
I laughed and grabbed him by the throat, pushing him against the wall he was just in front of. He stared at me in surprise.
"You underestimate me, Lockwood" I said. "And I forgot how much I hate Lockwood's"
I let go of him and he stared down at me, eyes wide.
"Keep your mouth shut, or I'll shut it for you" I said and went to walk "Permanently"
I walked around until I seen Stefan take off.
"Hey" I called "Where are you going"
I had to run to catch up to him. "Vicki Donovan told her brother it was a vampire who attacked her"
"Yeah cause people are going to believe her" I said "She's a not only a drunk chick but she's a druggie"
Stefan turned and he glared at me, but kept walking "That's not the point Evangelina and you know it. This can cause problems for us"
"So what are you going to do?" I asked.
"Compel her"
"Stef, you're not-"
"Strong enough?"
"I didn't say that"
"It's what you meant" Stefan said.
"Stefan. I'd have a better chance at this"
"I can do it. I don't need your help"
I stopped in my tracks but he didn't take notice "Have it your way, Stefan, but if it messes up, just remember I offered to help and it's your fault"
I was lying on my bed, legs over one the the side, god it was quiet, where was Zach when you need him. I huffed slighltly blowing a strand of hair out of my face, the music blaring in my ears until it stopped and then I heard the voice.
"I. . .I'm sorry for barging in. The door was. . .open" What the hell was she doing here? I got up and moved, quickly.
"You must be Elena. I'm Damon, Stefan's brother" No!
"He didn't tell me he had a brother"
"Well, Stefan's not one to brag. Please, come. I'm sure Stefan will be along any second"
"That's because he's adopted. Technically he's not our real brother" I said and they both turned to look at me.
"Ah, Evie, likes to pretend" Damon said and he smiled sweetly. As if butter wouldn't melt.
"Yeah, Kidding" I said.
"Wow. This is your living room?"
"Living room, parlor, Sotheby's auction. It's a little kitschy for my taste" Damon said "I see why my brother's so smitten. It's about time. For a while there, I never thought he'd get over the last one. Nearly destroyed him"
"The last one?"
"Yeah. Katherine, his girlfriend? Oh, you two haven't had the awkward exes conversation yet" Damon said.
"Nope"
"Oops. Well, I'm sure it'll come up now. Or maybe he didn't want to tell you because he didn't want you to think he was on the rebound. We all know how those relationships end" Damon said and I rolled my eyes.
"You say that like every relationship is doomed to end" Elena said and I sighed.
"I'm a fatalist" Damon said.
"Pfft" I scoffed, "Stefan isn't here Elena. You should go, I'll tell him to call you"
"Nonsense" Damon said. "There he is now. Hello, Stefan"
I turned and seen him in the doorway, just across from me. He didn't even look at me. His eyes dead on Damon.
"Elena. I didn't know you were coming over" He said, his tone dry.
"I know. I should have called, I just..." Elena began.
"Oh, don't be silly. You're welcome any time. Isn't she, Stefan? You know, I should break out the family photo albums or some home movies. But. . .I have to warn you. He wasn't always such a looker"
"Thank you for stopping by, Elena. Nice to see you" Stefan said and I bit my lip.
"Yeah, I should probably go. It was nice to meet you, Damon"
"Great meeting you, too, Elena" Damon said and he took her hand, kissing the top of it.
Elena turned and went to walk but Stefan was blocking her way as he stared at Damon.
"Stefan. . . .Stefan?" Elena said.
"Hey, jackass" I hissed quietly enough for him to hear, and he looked at me and I gave him a "Move out of her way" look.
Stefan moved and Elena left quickly. I felt bad for her.
"Great gal. Whoo. She's got spunk" Damon said "You, on the other hand, look pooped. Did you over-exert yourself today? Let me guess. . hospital"
"Someone had to clean up your mess" Stefan said.
"Well, were you successful? Did the powers of persuasion work? Remember, if you don't feed properly, none of those little tricks work right"
"How long was Elena here?"
"Like two minutes" I said and Stefan looked from me to Damon.
"Were you worried, Stefan? Scared we may be doomed to repeat the past? Isn't that why you play your little game, "I'm a high school human"?"
"I'm not playing any game" Stefan said.
"Of course you are. We both know the closest you'll ever get to humanity is when you rip it open and feed on it" Damon said.
"What kind of game are you playing, Damon?"
"Guess you'll just have to wait and see, won't you?"
"No. You can leave we don't want to play your petty games" I said.
Damon only smirked and walked off, I sighed.
"What is Damon doing here? Why did he come home?" Zach asked.
I kicked my feet on the arm of the couch, and lay back. "Cause he's a total dildo"
Stefan threw me a dirty look "'Cause we came home. He wants to make my life miserable and wants his daughter to be his minion again, That's how he enjoys his life" Stefan said.
"Well, he's putting us all at risk. This girl in the hospital could talk" Zach said.
"Zach, Stefan took care of her. Relax" I said and I sat round and got to my feet.
"You're sure?" Zach asked.
"I'm not sure, Zach. I don't know how well it worked. I'm not as strong as Damon"
"That's why I said I would do it, pride got the better of you"
Stefan again threw me a dirty look.
"So what happens if it doesn't work?" Zach asked.
"I don't know. I'll deal with it"
"No. I'll deal with it" I said and Stefan looked away from me.
"Is she worth it? Uncle Stefan, this girl you came back for?" Zach asked and I made a face.
"We've yet to see" I said and walked past the two of them.
I was just walking around when I banged into someone.
"Oh, sorry" I said looking up and realized it was Tyler. "Oh..not sorry"
"You're a bitch"
"Yeah. I know. I get the attitude from my father" I said. He stared at me for an awkward few moments. "Okay bye" I said.
"How about a truce?" He said as I walked past him.
I narrowed my eyes and I stopped "A truce?" I asked, turning to look at him.
"Sure" He said and put out his hand.
"Is this some sort of game?" I asked.
"No" He said shaking his head.
"If this is some sort of game, you're in for a big shocker pal-"
"It's not" He said shaking his head "Honestly"
He looked sincere, then again so did many people. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and I put my hand out and took his.
"Truce" He said.
"Truce" I nodded.
"How about you come to light a candle?" He said.
I looked around and then back at him "Sure"
We stopped when we met everyone, there was Elena, Caroline, Bonnie and Matt.
"Hey, I got some candles" Caroline said.
"Hi." Elena said and then noticed Matt "Hey"
"Hey"
I looked at Tyler "So what's with the whole thing"
"Whole thing?" He asked.
"You know. You're the last person I expected to ask me to do anything"
He shrugged slightly "I don't see the harm in it"
"I don't do rebounds" I said and he smirked.
"You're not a rebound"
We all ended up in the grill, and I didn't particularly want to be there, but hey.
"Hey, has anyone seen Vicki?" Jeremy asked.
"You're her stalker. You tell us" Tyler said and I rolled my eyes. Back to being a douche.
"I can't find her"
"She probably found somebody else to party with. Sorry, pill pusher, I guess you've been replaced" Tyler said.
Ah, the bitter rivalry. I bet these two could actually be friends if Vicki Donovan was out of the picture. As harsh as that sounds.
"What's with the pill pusher?" Elena asked.
"Ask him"
"You wanna do this right now?" Jeremy demanded.
"Are you dealing?" Elena asked.
"She's never gonna go for you"
"She already did. Over and over and over again" Jeremy said.
"Yeah, right" Tyler spat.
"You slept with Vicki Donovan? I mean, Vicki Donovan slept with you?" Caroline asked.
"There's no way" Tyler said.
"And I didn't even have to force her into it" Jeremy snapped.
"What the hell is he talking about, Ty?" Matt demanded.
"Nothing, man, just ignore him, he's a punk"
"You know what, how about all of you shut up and help me find my sister?" Matt asked.
"We'll check the back" Bonnie said.
I didn't have to move and I heard them. I sighed and waited until everybody was gone from the table and headed out and looked around, looking for the building. I could see him and I waited until the street was empty and I moved quickly so I was on top of the roof.
"Seriously?" I asked.
Damon smirked. "Hi, Evie" Vicki tried to get away from him and she screamed "You really have to stop screaming"
"No, please, stop. Don't" She cried.
"Shh. I got you" Damon said.
"Let her go" I said.
"She's a problem, how can I?"
"Please?" I asked and he stared at me. "I'm begging you, please"
"Come on now, Evie"
"Damon, please" I said and he stopped moving, a flicker of emotion swiping across his face but it was gone within an instant and a snarl of laughter took over and he looked to Vicki and his face softened.
"Shh, I'm not gonna drop you" He looked past me "Not bad. Have you been eating bunnies?"
"Let her go"
I turned to see Stefan. Vicki tried to pull away, crying.
"Shh" Damon said to her "Really? Ok" Damon pulled Vicki towards the edge of the roof.
"No!" Vicki cried.
"No, no, no!" Stefan cried out.
"Ugh! Relax" Damon said.
"What's happening?" Vicki asked.
"I don't need her to be dead, but. . .you might" Damon said and I looked at Stefan. "What attacked you the other night?" He asked her.
"I don't know. An animal"
"Are you sure about that? Think. Think about it. Think really hard. What attacked you?"
"A vampire" Vicki said.
"Who did this to you?"
"You did!"
"Wrong!" Damon said.
"Don't"
"It was Stefan" Damon said.
"No" I said.
"Don't"
"Come here" He said and Damon grabbed Vicki on both sides of her head. "Stefan Salvatore did this to you"
"Stefan Salvatore did this to me" Vicki repeated.
"He's a vampire. A vicious, murderous monster"
"Please, Damon. Please don't do this" Stefan pleaded.
"If you couldn't fix it before, I don't know what you can do now"
"Aah!" Vicki cried as Stefan caught her.
"Ugh! Your choice of lifestyle has made you weak. A couple of vampire parlor tricks is nothing compared to the power that you could have, that you now need. But you can change that. Human blood gives you that" Damon said.
"No!" Vicki cried.
"You have two choices. You can feed and make her forget. Or you can let her run, screaming "vampire" through the town square" Damon said.
"That's what this is about? You want to expose me?" Stefan asked. "
"No! I want you to remember who you are!" Damon said.
"Why? So what, so I'll feed? So I'll kill? So I'll remember what it's like to be brothers again? You know what, let her go. Let her tell everyone that vampires have returned to Mystic Falls. Let them chain me up, and let them drive a stake through my heart, because at least I'll be free of you"
"Daddy please" I said and they both looked at me. I held my breath and he stared at me and shook his head.
"Huh. Huh. Wow. Come here, sweetheart" He said to Vicki.
"No!" Vicki cried.
"It's okay" He said and he whispered into her ear.
"What happened? Where am I? Oh, I ripped my stitches open. Ugh.."
"You Okay?" Stefan asked her.
"I took some pills, man. I'm good" Vicki nodded.
And with that she left.
"It's good to be home. Think I might stay a while. This town could use a bit of a wake-up call, don't you think?" Damon asked.
"What are you up to, Damon?"
"That's for me to know and for you two to. . .dot dot dot" he said "Give Elena my best"
He walked past and ruffled my hair and disappeared. I let out the breath I had been holding in and I looked to Stefan.
"Smart move" He said.
"With what?" I asked.
"Calling him Daddy" He said in a sarcastic tone and I glared at him, punching his arm with force behind it.
"Saved your sorry ass" I moved past him.
The first place I went into when I entered the boarding house was Damon's room, if ever I had been here back in the sixties, I would sleep in here. I knew I had a room of my own, but it felt like home in here. I sat on the large bed and crossed my legs. I looked around the room, it wasn't something you'd expect for him, but he had good taste. I could hear Stefan and Elena outside and I rolled my eyes, moving from Damon's room to my own and I lay on the bed. Staring up at the ceiling.
It felt like minutes had passed but I heard the door open and I looked up to see Stefan.
"Mind if I come in?"
"Go ahead" I said and let my head fall back onto the pillow.
"You okay?" Stefan asked.
"Yeah" I said and moved over so he could sit on the bed, though I didn't sit up.
"You sure?"
"So you kissed Elena"
"We're not done with- Wait, You were listening?"
"No. I tried not to, Uncle Stefan but seriously" I said "You're like a puppy"
"Hardly"
He lay back and I turned to look at him "Do you think he'll ever be back...to who he was?" I asked.
Stefan looked around at me and sighed "I don't know, Eve. I don't know"
