A/N: Reposted one shot, based around The Waitresses song 'Christmas Wrapping'.

Just a quick hello and thank you to all my readers out there! If I could send a Colin to each of you, I totally would...as long as I got to keep one myself.

OUAT and the song isn't mine.

Christmas Wrapping

"Bah humbug!" thought Emma, as she barrelled through her front door, away from the snowstorm outside. Usually Christmas was Emma's favourite holiday, but the year had been busy, she just didn't have the energy.

The only gift she really wanted, she had met when she had visited a ski shop to buy a new pair of gloves a year ago.

"Oops, sorry love, didn't see you there!" exclaimed the man who had just tripped over Emma as she knelt down to pick up some pairs of gloves she had dropped, knocking her over completely. He got to his feet first, offering a gloved hand to help Emma stand, which Emma ignored. As she got to her feet, she looked up, ready to give the man a piece of her mind. It was then she realised the man in question was ridiculously handsome, and currently wearing the most adorable grin she had ever seen. All insults regarding his less than stellar eyesight evaporated from her mind, and instead she concentrated on leaving the situation as soon as possible.

"That's okay," she replied, brushing herself off. She had just started to walk away from temptation when she felt a presence behind her.

"Are you okay lass?" the handsome man asked. Emma turned and smiled.

"Yes, I'm fine, not even a bruise," she confirmed, once again trying to leave. The man, however, was refusing to be shaken.

"Well, if you're sure," he gave her a dazzling smile and winked, "At least let me offer you an escort round the store?"

"No, I'm fine thank you. I can cope without a scoundrel like you holding onto me. The only one who saves me is me."

The man looked sheepish, and scratched behind his ear, an obvious nervous tick.

"I prefer dashing rapscallion," he replied, "And I would merely shadow you."

Emma raised her eyebrow.

"You don't think it sounds a little stalkerish for a total stranger to basically be offering to follow a woman?" she commented.

"Please allow me to introduce myself. Killian Jones, librarian." he revealed with a flourish, "And you are?"

"Perfectly capable of defending against men who won't leave me alone," Emma retorted.

Killian's face fell into an obvious pout and he sighed, "Well, if you should ever need a knight in shining armour, here's my number." The man handed her a professional looking card, claiming Jones was a guitarist for hire, before disappearing in a swirl of black leather.

Emma stared at thin air for a second while she got her bearings. She shook herself off and continued round the store, promising herself she would throw the card in the next bin she saw.

She never would throw that card away.

End flashback

Emma smiled as she recalled the day and continued into the house, shivering as she removed her coat.

She had decorated for the festive season, even though she was spending it alone. A tree decorated to the nines sat in the corner of her living room, there was tinsel on what seemed to be every flat surface, and twinkling lights in every window. Emma peeled off her boots and went through to the kitchen to begin preparing her Christmas dinner.

As she methodically chopped vegetables, Emma's mind drifted to her second meeting with Killian.

Spring Time

The next time she saw Killian, it had just been an average trip to the supermarket, well, until Emma's trolley decided to develop a life of it's own and crashed into the unsuspecting man in front of her.

"Oops! Sorry!" Emma exclaimed as her accidental victim turned round.

The pair of them stared at each other as recognition set in.

"Well, well, well," Killian smiled at her, "We meet again, lass!"

Emma rolled her eyes.

"It appears we do," she replied, "Now if you don't mind, I'd best be off."

"As a matter of fact, I do mind, love," Killian retorted, "You never called."

Emma smirked.

"I never needed a knight in shining armour." Killian's face fell into a pout. Emma laughed. "Sorry buddy, but I did warn you I'm not the type to need saving."

"I'm starting to see that," Killian replied, "So, if you don't need someone to save you, how about just some scintillating conversation?"

Emma raised her eyebrow.

"What, with you?"

Killian raised his in response.

"Try something new, love"

Emma considered this for a second, before making a decision.

"Fine, here's my number," she said, hastily writing it on a piece of scrap paper, "Call me sometime."

She moved away from him, leaving Killian to call after her.

"But lass, I don't even know your name!"

End flashback.

He had called the day after. After a couple of weeks Emma had finally revealed her name. They had attempted to arrange a lunch date, but couldn't agree on a date they were both free. Eventually, they gave up and made a mutual pact to keep in touch.

Summer

Emma looked at the screen on her phone, and smiled.

"Hey Killian," she greeted after answering it, "Long time, no speak."

Killian chuckled.

"Sorry love, life got a little hectic. It's now calmed down again I'm happy to say. Which is part of the reason I called. How would you like to go sailing with me tomorrow?"

Emma's face dropped.

"I would love to" she started, "But I'mkindaburntallover."

Killian laughed.

"Sorry lass, didn't quite catch that."

Emma sighed.

"Ruby convinced me that yesterday, the hottest day of the year so far, was the perfect day to take a trip to the beach and sunbathe. I now look like a lobster, and am having to continually smother myself in after-sun"

Killian continued laughing, then took a few deep breaths.

"Sorry love, I'm genuinely disappointed you can't join me, just laughing at the fact that while fate threw us together, twice, it's now doing everything it can to stop us seeing each other."

Emma hummed in agreement.

"We'll go another time" she promised

End flashback.

Emma almost wished for the burns now the weather had turned colder. She had been to see Ruby earlier that day, as part of her rounds of cards and RSVP'ing while bundled up in what seemed like a million layers. Ruby had attempted to persuade her to party tonight, but partying didn't really appeal to Emma this year. She just wanted to relax and have a night to herself.

Killian Jones

Swan. Halloween party. Tomorrow. 7pm. You in?

Emma grinned, as did Killian when he received her reply.

Emma Swan

Jones. I'm in.

Seven o'clock came and Emma waited by the window to spot Killian as he arrived. One hour passed, then two, then three. Emma attempted to call him, but kept reaching his voicemail. She eventually dozed off to sleep in her boredom, only to be rudely awakened by her phone ringing. It was Killian.

"Hello?" she answered groggily.

"Hi Swan, I am so sorry. First my car decided to give out, then when I tried to call you my phone died, and kept refusing to charge. Then I find out my room mate chucked out the piece of paper that you wrote your number on for me, so I couldn't even call you from another phone. I cannot apologise enough for making you wait in vain."

Emma sighed.

"Jones, maybe we should just accept it, we're not meant to make this work. "

"I refuse to believe that," Killian protested, "I know I joked about fate, but I'm a firm believer in making my own fate."

"I'm sorry Killian," Emma's voice cracked, "I just can't do this any more."

End flashback.

She hadn't answered any of his calls and texts since. Two whole months without Killian's teasing, and while she should be rejoicing, she was finding she missed it like crazy. She had to continually remind herself that it was for the best.

Emma was pulled from her thoughts as the cooker timer went off, indicating her lovingly prepared turkey was ready. It was at that moment she realised what she had forgotten.

Emma reluctantly pulled her layers back on, and trudged out into the snow to her closest all night grocery store. As she entered, she shook the snow from her hat and shoulders, and quickly set about her mission to find her missing ingredient.

However, when she reached the aisle she needed, Emma froze in her tracks at the sight before her. For standing in the same aisle, looking between two jars of cranberry sauce, was Killian Jones.

His gaze moved from the jars to her, and he smiled warily.

"Swan!" he acknowledged, "Didn't expect to see you here. But then again, this just ends a mad year."

Emma smiled back, and walked down the aisle towards him.

"I know, this year's been a little mental for me too," she admitted.

"Why are you here?" Killian asked.

Emma gestured to the jars in his hands.

"I forgot cranberry sauce," she admitted, "Though by the looks of it, I'm not the only one."

She took a jar from the shelf, and turned to leave, before turning back around.

"Would you like to have dinner with me?" she blurted.

Killian took a moment to process the question, before nodding.

"I'd like that," he replied.

End note: Seriously shouldn't have taken me as long as it did to re-edit this chapter. Oh well, it's done now... Hope you all liked it!
