Chapter 4!
I don't own Harry Potter or it's characters. But I do Own Vespera :)
"Miss Salazar, how much of your school shopping have you finished?" I was asked.
"This was our first stop Mrs. Malfoy. We had a slight delay leaving the mansion." I replied.
She chuckled, "Please call me Cissy. Mrs. Malfoy is too formal for someone of your age. We just started Draco's shopping as well, why don't you two run along and go retrieve your wands, the two of us will retrieve your other supplies and meet you in the quidditch shop."
I smiled, "Thank you very much Cissy." I looked at Draco, who was holding his arm out for me to take. I politely took it, and the two of us smiled, "Thank you Draco."
"You're very welcome Vespera. Come on! This is possibly the best day of our lives. We finally get our own wands!" With that, the two of us quickly walked out of the cloak shop and headed towards a building called Ollivanders.
Draco held the door open for me, and I walked in. I looked around at all the different boxes, which I assumed had wands in them. A very odd man rolled toward the front on a ladder, "Ah. Mister Malfoy, I was wondering when you would show up. You do start Hogwarts this year don't you? And who would this young lady be?" He glanced at me then stared into my eyes, "Very powerful. Your magic is very raw. It's barely been touched. Which is odd in a wizarding family." He looked at Draco, then back at me. "How is it that it seems a Malfoy has befriended a Muggleborn?"
Draco's eyes opened wide, "Pardon me sir!" He turned and faced me, "Vespera are you really a muggle? A filthy mudblood?"
I wouldn't let this name calling continue, I felt as if I was on the verge of losing my only friend because of this old man who apparently ran the shop. "Excuse me, Sir!" I said stomping my foot glaring at Malfoy, then I turned to the man, "It would do you well to try to recall the origins of my last name. Vespera Salazar. Don't you dare use those words against me again." I glared, and caught one of the shelves on fire.
When I had said my name the man's eyes opened very wide, and they almost burst out of his head when I caught the shelves on fire. He pulled out his wand, then pointed it at the fire, and the flames went out. "I'm very sorry Miss Salazar for my misunderstanding. Please forgive me." He looked at Draco, who was now smirking, "How about we get your wand first Miss Salazar?" I nodded, raising my eyebrows, acting impatient. He pulled out one of the boxes, "Let's try this one. 10 1/4", Yew wood, with a unicorn hair core." I picked it up and tapped at the table, nothing happened. "Ah. A mistake. Let's try this one." He pulled out another box, "10", Willow wood, unicorn hair core again." I picked it up, and once again tapped it, nothing happening. He frowned.
I rolled my eyes, "Can this go any faster? I have places to be." Impatience was the way to go in order to achieve what you want faster.
The man glanced at me, "Perhaps not a unicorn hair core. Let us try this one." He went to the middle of the store, and came back with a new box, again. "11 inches, acacia wood, Thestral core." I picked up the wand, and tapped it, and a cloud of black smoke came out of it. "Ah. Not at all. Miss Salazar you are proving most difficult indeed." He paused, then turned around and walked to the very back of the store, into what was probably the darkest corner. "Perhaps one of these will do. Not my favorites at all." He came back with what looked like a very old box, the box was practically falling apart.
Draco walked over and looked over my shoulder at this box, and the wand inside when the man pulled open the box. "Mister Ollivander, is that..." he trailed off.
The man, Ollivander I assumed, nodded, "It is indeed Mister Malfoy. I rare wand indeed. None are made like this anymore, the mixing of multiple woods, more than one core, and an element was found ineffective except for one of great magic. You miss Salazar may just be fit for this one." I picked up the wand, and tapped it. A black snake with a spiderweb design came out, and slithered forward, before disappearing. "Curious, very curious indeed. Perhaps you will fit nicely into the house of the one who's first name you share."
He reached down and pulled something out, then stuck the wand into the top of it, and twisted it, locking the wand inside. He handed the wand to me, inside of a holster. I placed it on my arm where it then tied itself to fit perfectly on my arm, and I could hold the handle of it in my hand. "Sir, what's inside of the wand. I would like to know what is in it."
He glanced at Draco, then back at me. "The contents of your wand must be kept secret Miss Salazar. Wands like this are hard to come by, and even illegal. 13 inches, an unusually long for a female. The handle is made of yew wood, the body of the wand made of Elm. The core is made of 3 different materials. A very dangerous concept. The first is Basilisk skin. Very rare indeed, and barely seen anymore except in families that pass down the wands. The second core material is wrapped around the skin and is illegal, it has been since 1782. Acromantula Web." With those two materials I thought Draco's eyes were about to pop out of his head. "The last is a Doxy wing. Very common in young slytherins today. The design that looks t hold the two woods together is Goblin Silver. It absorbs the most powerful substance that it comes in contact with, which is one of the things that prevents this wand from exploding. This wand is also indestructible and will not become dirty. A very powerful wand indeed. Keep it safe in your hands Miss Salazar. You are bond for great things I'm sure."
I nodded and smiled, "Thank you very much sir." I stepped back, and waved Draco forward.
"Mister Malfoy let us try a Unicorn hair like your mother. Elm wood like your father's. 14 inches." Draco tapped it on the counter similar to how I had. Then sat it back in the box. "Oh perhaps not. Maybe this one." The man walked to a shelf against a front wall, then pulled out another box, "10 inches, Unicorn hair, Hawthorn wood." Draco took it and tapped it, a few green sparks came out of it. The man nodded, "Very good. If that is all?" We nodded, then Draco held the door open for me again, and we both stepped out with our new wands.
"Draco, you're lucky getting your wand didn't take as long as mine did. Your parents are probably waiting for us already." I sighed, "Sorry getting mine took so long."
He waved his hand,"It's no problem Vespera. You're lucky you got such a powerful wand. Wait until we tell Father about this."
I stopped and looked at him, "Draco, you know what Ollivander said. We aren't supposed to tell people what's in my wand."
He rolled his eyes then pulled me into an abandoned alleyway, he grabbed my shoulders, "Vespera, my father was a Dark Wizard under Voldemort. He's not going to be one to report that your wand is technically illegal. Don't worry about it okay?" He leaned forward and kissed my cheek, "Come on Vespera, Mother and Father will still allow us time in the Quidditch store. If only we were allowed a broom our first years. I think it would be fantastic to be on the Quidditch team as a first year." He was saying all of this as we were walking.
I nodded, then we walked into the store. All of these things were interesting. There were several golden balls, and larger balls, there were broomsticks, and so many other interesting things. "This, is amazing." I said, then realized all the wizards probably knew what this was already and I had just made myself a fool.
Draco's eyes opened wide, "You've never seen things like this before?" I shook my head, "How could you have grown up in a wizard family and not see this!"
I shrugged, "My parents liked to keep me indoors and outcasted from a lot of this. Apparently they didn't want to ruin my mind with such things as quidditch."
His eyes opened wide, "How could you ever live like that! It's definate. You absolutely MUST come to the Malfoy manor and at least ride a broom." He took my hand and ran out of the store.
"Draco! Aren't we supposed to wait for your parents?" He shrugged, and continued running, until we got to the book store. He once again opened the door for me and I walked in.
Only to be welcomed by a few familiar faces. Oh fun.
Author's note: As you know she had a very odd wand. As it is probably impossible to have, I have deemed myself the great wand maker for all dark magic wands (not really). I felt as though these materials in her wand gave a meaning to her character. Below you'll find what each element of the wand means (except for the silver. that's just there cause it's shiney)
Yew: Yew is a powerful wand wood. Due to its poisonous sap, it has Dark leanings, and is particularly good at Transfiguration.
Yew wands are among the rarer kinds, and their ideal matches are likewise unusual, and occasionally notorious. The witch or wizard best suited to a yew wand might equally prove a fierce protector of others. Wands hewn from these most long-lived trees have been found in the possession of heroes quite as often as of villains. Where wizards have been buried with wands of yew, the wand generally sprouts into a tree guarding the dead owner's grave. What is certain, in my experience, is that the yew wand never chooses either a mediocre or a timid owner.
Elm:The unfounded belief that only pure-bloods can produce magic from elm wands was undoubtedly started by some elm wand owner seeking to prove his own blood credentials, for I have known perfect matches of elm wands who are Muggle-borns. The truth is that elm wands prefer owners with presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity. Of all wand woods, elm, in my experience, produces the fewest accidents, the least foolish errors, and the most elegant charms and spells; these are sophisticated wands, capable of highly advanced magic in the right hands (which, again, makes it highly desirable to those who espouse the pure-blood philosophy).
Acromantula web
If you're thinking about having a wand made with Acromantula web, you're probably a fan of having your wand confiscated by the authorities. Using a wand with this core has been illegal in Britain since 1782, after it was discovered that the wielder of an Acromantula web wand has particular ability with Dark magics, especially the Imperius curse. There are certain diplomatic exceptions, as it is a traditional core for Asian wands, but even those are temporary, and many wizard diplomats on long-term assignments find themselves compelled to procure replacement wands for their stay.
Basilisk skin
Basilisk wands are incredibly rare, as the beasts are rare to begin with and hard to kill. Due to the rarity, they often are passed down from generation to generation, so basilisk-core wands are either the heirloom of Slytherin-type Pureblood families or reforged wands from family cores. The occasional new basilisk wand will almost always bond to a Parselmouth or budding Dark Wizard. Very little good comes out of wielders of basilisk wands.
Doxy wing(s)
Doxy wings, like the creatures they come from, can be unmanageable and mean-spirited. They are second only to basilisk wands in their abilities with the Dark Arts, and as such these rare wands are most often found in the hands of stubborn Slytherins without the familial connection to obtain a basilisk core.
