Chapter 7! Read and review! Reviews and Follows make me happy 3
I don't own Harry Potter or it's characters, but I own Vespera :D
I walked down the stairs, and watched Draco's mouth drop open. "Draco dear, you may want to close your mouth before some insect flies into it." I smiled and took the arm he offered. Lucius already had Cissy's arm, so I just followed suit.
"You look beautiful Vespera," Draco said smiling.
Lucius glared down to Draco, then spoke, "Remember, you are both only 11 and as such you are only friends. I'll be watching you two."
This time, it was my turn to hang my mouth open, "Excuse me sir. But I'm not up to anything! I was simply planning to go to a Dinner thing with my first wizard friend here. I would appreciate it if you didn't imply such things anymore."
Lucius rolled his eyes and shared a smirk with Cissy. Then I turned and held Cissy's other hand, while Draco held Lucius's. Then we apparated to somewhere.
Upon arriving, Draco and I let go of the adults' hands and we stepped behind them. We walked inside and someone pointed their wand to their throat and spoke as if they had a microphone, "We welcome Mister Lucius Malfoy, Mrs. Narcissa Malfoy, Mister Draco Malfoy, and Miss Vespera Salazar." People nodded when they heard the Malfoys being called. However, when they heard a fourth name, their heads turned and stared at me.
I whispered to Draco as we descended the stairway to the ballroom, "Am I the only one that noticed when they said my name, that one couple backed out and ran?"
Draco smirked, and whispered back, "They definitely did. They were probably mudbloods, thinking that you were here to destroy them. They should be scared." He looked at the dress, "Plus in that dress they probably think you're an evil mastermind already."
I grinned, "I am an evil mastermind. You should know that Draco. You know, really all I've done is feed you stories about how I hadn't done much wizarding things. I tell you my father is dead and my mother doesn't care about me. I manage to have Severus Snape escort me to get my books and other school supplies, and we just happen to run into your family. You know that Snape is highly annoyed at having me, so your family being the nice people they are take me under their wing and this wing only goes further around me the more they know about me. You guys invited me into your home, which I'm sure has protection spells surrounding it, allowing me access to your house. Now I am inside an event, that I had not previously been invited to, and I may very well be here to use the killing curse on everyone." I bent down, as if I were going to pull my dress up to get my wand out from underneath, and Draco's eyes opened so wide I thought they would fall out, and he would possibly have a heart attack. He suddenly became very uncomfortable with me, and scurried down the stairs without me so he was right next to his father.
I picked up the shiney item I had seen on the steps, the real reason I had been bending down. It was a silver ring with a green emerald M on it. I finished my descent down the stairs and Draco hid behind his father.
"Mister Malfoy, I found this on the staircase, and bent to pick it up. Would you happen to know who it belonged to?" i smiled innocently at them, and Lucius took the ring.
"Oh yes, this would be my mother's. Silly old coot always losing this thing. Come Narcissa, let us go socialize, and possibly run into Mother." He turned and looked at us, "Please keep yourselves out of trouble. Understand?" We nodded and grinned, then were left alone.
Once they left, I sighed, "Why is it everyone thinks that two 11 year olds are going to get in such trouble?"
Draco raised an eyebrow, "Maybe because you are a stranger to them, and they hae yet to see your charms."
"My charms? Oh how flattering you are Draco. Maybe I should show you," I poked him, "some of my charms that I've picked up." I bent down to get my wand again and he stopped me.
"Vespera, never mind that won't be at all necessary!" Draco started panicking, apparently thinking I was actually going to do something to him.
"Are you sure Draco? Maybe just a little showing?" I giggled at his face, "You need to watch out Draco, you never know when I may just attack you in the hallway."
I heard the doors open and I looked up from our conversation when another name was spoken, "Now announcing Mister Stefan Faymore, Mrs. Leah Faymore, and Miss Jaelah Faymore." Another group of very formal looking people descended.
I looked at Draco, "Who are they? Friend or Foe?"
He smirked mischievously, "It depends. Are you Gryffindor or Slytherin?"
I rolled my eyes, "If you have not realized by now that I wish to be in Slytherin, then you sir are very idiotic and may be on the verge of being a Hufflepuff." It turns out, reading at least one book gave me a little bit of knowledge about wizarding things.
He poked my arm, "Then they will be your friends. Jaelah is in our year, comes from a long pureblood line of slytherins. She's one of the few decent ones. Come along, I'll introduce you two. You'll probably end up getting along great."
I smiled shyly, then hid slightly behind Draco. Sure, we were both 11, but Draco was already at least 2 inches taller than me, and our height difference would probably only continue to grow. This, was a very comforting thought as long as Draco was my friend.
"Miss Faymore, looking pleasant as always." He took her hand and kissed it while bowing.
She rolled her eyes, "Such a dramatic gentleman as always Draco." She smiled, then peeked behind Draco, "And who's your friend here? A little sister or cousin that you've kept hidden from the rest of us?" She stepped around him and looked me up and down, then started making circles around me, "She definitely must have some Malfoy blood. She has the same blond hair as you Draco, I'm not sure where she got those green eyes, probably on her mother's side I'd assume. Her face is more curvey while most Malfoy's are sharp, another trait from her mother. Her skin is so pale and she's so scrawny, she must have never had to lift a finger, or leave the house. She's probably 9 or 10, judging on her size. " She looked at Draco, "How good of a guesser am I?" She smiled.
Before Draco could even say anything, I stepped forward with my head held high, I wasn't going to let this girl pretend she knew everything about me. "I am not any cousin or sibling or any relation to Draco. I do not share any Malfoy blood as far as I am aware. You will do well to not insult me with such insults such as me being pale and scrawny. I'm sure that if it ever came to a duel between the two of us, I would beat you and you wouldn't be found by anyone for at least 3 hours." The three hours was something she had attempted once with her mom's papers. She hid them behind the Azalea bush, telling her mom the entire time she had no idea where the papers were. If something such as important papers for her mom were missing for 3 hours, surely it wouldn't be too hard to make a person disappear. "I would say that you are a horrid guesser, and should never try to play guessing games."
I decided to play the same game with her as she had done previously. "You're obviously a Faymore, I learned that much from just your name. Black hair as dark and straight as yours? Your mother is a Selwyn I'm sure." I had actually figured it out from the book I had been reading. Who knew reading those births would be useful? I walked around her, "Tall for an 11 year old, that probably makes you a force to usually be threatened, no one wants to go against someone taller than them. You are a pureblood, obviously. You'll probably go into Slytherin just like the rest of your family. You have an older sister, who is either here already, or more likely plans on making an entrance later. You don't mind heights, but you don't want to fall and break your neck either." I stood in front of her, "You have poor vision, and wear glasses on a normal basis. You aren't like most of the purebloods, in that you know you aren't the heir to the wealth, your older sister is. So you are freer than the other purebloods, making you more bearable than others." I smiled at her, "So, how good of a guesser am I?" I mocked back.
She glared at Draco, "You told her all about me didn't you?"
He shook his head, "I swear, all I told her was your name, that you were in our year, that everyone in your family has always been a Slytherin, and that you were bearable. I didn't even give her many details before I told her I would introduce you two! I'm just as shocked as you are!" He looked at me, "How did you know all of that about her?"
I smiled, "Well the thing about her mother's side is explained by one simple statement. I read." I paused while I watched Draco roll his eye and mutter. "Anyone with eyes knows you're an inch taller than Draco as we speak. However, with those wedge heels on it's obvious you aren't afraid of heights, but the wedge is there to be safe. I'd say you're actually just as tall as Draco, which is still tall for a girl. Firstly, you don't hold yourself as straight as the heirs. I used that knowledge to confirm that you had an older sibling. Secondly, because your dress is slightly frayed at the bottom, signifying someone wearing it a lot. It's also faded, symbolizing a slight age. Which probably meant the older sibling was a sister. Thirdly, like I said before, I read. You must wear glasses, because you have a slight raw spot on the bridge of your nose, as well as right behind your ears. Then of course Draco here told me the rest."
She smiled back at me, "You're going to be a Ravenclaw aren't you? The way it sounds you must have read all the birth records and family histories. I wouldn't put it past you to have already read your textbooks before the first day, you've probably already read the first year books that belong for the current first years like Draco and I." Upon her saying this I felt myself blush, and she laughed, "You have already opened the books!" She looked at Draco and patted him on the shoulder, "Good job Malfoy, you found yourself a little Ravenclaw to play with."
Draco was shocked by the fact she said I would be a Ravenclaw, I could see him considering it. I took this opportunity to speak, "I will not be in Ravenclaw. Who in their right mind would want to be in that bird house? When it comes time for any kind of test, they would probably stab you if you got a higher score than them. No thanks. I'll stick with wanting to be in Slytherin."
Jaelah laughed, "You? A Slytherin? You're so scrawny, you won't make it alive in the first hour of being in the presence of Snape! Maybe your mind will change within a year." That, was when it was my turn to smirk.
"Miss Faymore, it will do you well to recall that any Professor, shall, and will be called Professor as their title." Professor Snape said, standing directly behind Jaelah.
She jumped just a little and nodded, "Yes Professor. Sorry."
Snape then looked at me, I swear he snubbed his nose at me. "Miss Salazar, you will not, under any circumstances, be placed in my house. Understand?" I held my lips together and nodded. he continued, "You see, my house is only for those who can truly handle anything. You Miss salazar are not cunning or sly. Neither are you resourceful or traditional. I see no possible reason for you to end up in my Slytherin house." With that, he turned and walked off in the direction everyone else had been headed.
I continued holding my lips tight, trying not to cry. This Snape had just told me I would never be able to be a slytherin, just because I was a mudblood. "Hey Vespera, are you okay?" Draco wrapped his arms around me, and held me in a hug. I shook my head no.
Jaelah looked at me from behind Draco, and looked as if she was debating what to do, comfort me or tell me how big of a baby I was. She decided on the former. "Hey, it's going to be okay. Professor Snape has no say as to what house you'll be in, and once you're in that house, there is no way for you to leave. So if you truly belong in Slytherin, that's where the Sorting Hat will put you." I looked up at her and she smiled at me.
I pushed off of Draco, "I need to go. I'll be right back." I then headed off a long hallway, that I hoped the restrooms were on.
After walking down a few corridors of the hallway, I gave up on trying to find the bathroom, right here in the middle of this abandoned hallway was private enough. I sat down against the wall, brought my knees closer to me, then sat there and cried.
I had just been told in between myself and Professor Snape, that I would have no house for me at Hogwarts. I would have no friends once they knew my true identity.
I was going to end up sentencing myself to another place, where no one liked me.
I was once again the one that stood out.
AN: The entrance of the dinner! Hope you enjoyed!
Jaelah Faymore: A Slytherin prospect full blood girl. A character that is loosely based off a friend of mine who admins facebook pages with me. Who are the people she's related to? I have no idea, but looking up on Harry Potter wiki, I liked what the last name Selwyn, and since it was one of the 28 pureblood families, and the only known person of it was Umbridge (and that was only claimed) that this would be a great pureblood family for her mother to be from.
You will be seeing a lot of this character too! There just aren't enough Slytherin girls mentioned in the books. So some are going to be made up, and some relations are going to form that are not mentioned in the original series. But you see, this is a fanfiction. I'll do what I want. It's only loosely based on the same things as the books.
If you have questions review or message them :)
