Chapter 9!
I don't own Harry Potter or its characters, I do own Vespera though!
When I woke up, a little creature popped in, "Miss Salazar, breakfast will be ready shortly."
I smiled at it, "Thank you, but what should I wear?"
"Master Draco is getting dressed in proper clothes Miss." The creature seemed terrified that I would harm it, it seemed very skirmish.
"What are you, and what is your name?" I kept smiling at it, trying to be friendly enough.
"I is a House Elf Miss. I is Dobby. Miss don't hurt me!" then he disappeared with a pop!
'Well, he's weird.' I then put on a pair of pants I Had found in the drawer, along with a blue shirt. I slid on a pair of boots, then fixed my hair into a braid. I decided on no makeup this morning, it would be the first time I had gone without any.
I slid my wand holster onto my arm, and inserted my wand, then walked downstairs to attempt to find the kitchen. After opening several doors that I assumed probably shouldn't have been opened, Dobby appeared. "Master Draco sent me to find Miss Salazar." He took my hand then we apparated into the kitchen, then the next second he was gone again.
"House elves are such strange creatures..." I said then looked up and smiled, "Good Morning." I smiled.
Cissy smiled at me, "Good Morning Vespera. I hope you slept well." I nodded, "Draco is headed out to properly fix his robes, and Lucius is going with him. You have several options for your day, you can either sit upstairs and read all day, keep me company, ride a broom, or go home on the unlikeliness that you'd want to do that."
I laughed at the last comment then replied, "I think I would like to just read some more. There's a lot of things that Mother never told me, and I feel as if I should know. That is, if you don't mind me just reading?"
She smiled, "I am perfectly fine with that."
We heard footsteps coming closer to us, so I turned to see Draco running into the kitchen then stopping and staring at me. He had a very puzzled look on his face, "And you aareeee?"
I raised an eyebrow at him, "Draco Lucius Malfoy, how could you possibly forget me? Don't tell me I didn't leave an impression on you at all yesterday? Do I need to get my wand out and show you my charms to make you remember me?" I put my hand on my wand, and turned it before he started yelling.
"No! No! No! That's not necessary!" I locked it back in the holster and smiled. "Sorry Vespera, your face just looks... different."
I put my most terrifying glare on my face, "Are you saying that I look ugly without makeup on?" I knew he was just confused, and I had to have my fun with him.
"No, you still look beautiful. Just, different. I think I like you better without all that makeup stuff on your face. It's more natural." He smiled at me, then sat on a seat at the island, indicating that i should sit on the one next to him. "So Vespera, what are you doing today? Reading your way through transfiguration?"
I poked his side, making him squirm just a little, "For your information, I'll be reading through potions. I think the others will be easy enough to pick up on. I don't need to give Professor Snape another reason to not like me though."
Draco shrugged, "Suit yourself." We ate in silence after that, and he soon left once he finished eating.
I walked upstairs back to my room, and opened the book I had been reading the afternoon before. This time, I started from the beginning. I sat there for quite a long time, just reading this fascinating book.
next thing i knew a house elf popped in, sat a tray on my bed, then popped out. the tray had some kind of juice on it with sandwiches. I hadn't even noticed that I had been getting hungry. I took my wand out and tapped the bed, I had been sitting there for 5 hours reading, and was only half way through the book.
I sat down the book, picked up a sandwich, then decided to read some of the charms book. I had to practice some in order for my jokes with Draco to work.
I carefully read the first chapter, which took about an hour. I then skimmed through the rest of the book, and decided none of these would really shock Draco. I jumped off the bed, then realized I didn't know where Cissy would be. I said out loud to myself, "Where's a house elf when you need one?" Then a house elf appeared, Dobby. "Dobby, where would Cissy be?"
"Mrs. Malfoy is in her sitting room," he said shortly, then left again with the tray. I rolled my eyes, then walked out the door and down the stairs. I heard someone walking around in the room on the other side of the kitchen, I decided that would be my best bet for where Cissy was.
However, I went around the corner, and ran into Jaelah. "Watch where you're walking!" I yelled at the girl.
She glared at me, "Why don't you watch it?" Then she stood up and brushed herself off, I did the same. She looked at my arm and saw the wand holster, "So little brat, whose wand did you steal?"
I rolled my eyes, then Cissy walked in, "Jaelah, it was so nice of you to stop by. This here is Vespera, I'm sure you two met last night. Jaelah, if you wish you may go into the sitting room, I'll be there shortly." Jaelah nodded, while I glared at her back the entire time. Cissy turned back to me, "Vespera, Draco said he would meet you outside."
I jumped up and down and clapped, "He's back? Are we going to play quidditch?" Cissy nodded, "Oh my gosh! i am so excited!" I ran up the stairs, grabbed a jacket, then ran back downstairs, hugged Cissy, then ran out the front door.
I ran around the house, until I saw a familiar blond head. "DRACO!" I yelled, running up, and attacking him to the ground. "Broom time?"
He laughed at me, "Broom time," he said as he was handing me the broom.
I took it, and sat on it how I figured it would be proper. His eyebrows rose, "I thought you said you had never ridden before."
I smiled, "I haven't! I was just going to go with it and hope for the best." I thought to my broom, don't fail me now. I tried to focus my core, something my mother had taught me to do years ago, and imagine that I had magic flowing through my core, that held me to the broomstick and cast magic into the broomstick, allowing it to fly. Then it lifted off the ground.
I grinned at Draco, "I did it!"
He shook his head, got on his broom and automatically rose 30 feet off the ground, he taunted me, "Well, come on, let's see what you've got."
I had to go for it, I thought about myself as a light feather, floating away, and I rose to the sky, until I was at Draco's same height. "This is bloody brilliant Draco!"
He pulled something out of his pocket, it looked like a gold ball, "Well, come on then, lets' see how fast you can go. Pretend this golf ball here, is the most valuable thing in the world to you. As an added feature, this golf ball is made of glass, and Father's most prized possession." I looked at him confusion on my face and nodded, then he threw it.
My eyes opened wide, I wouldn't let anything valuable get away from me, let alone fall on the ground and break. He would get in trouble, but he obviously wasn't going to go anywhere. I leaned forward on my broom, similar to how I used to lean forward on a horse when I wanted to go faster, then took off. Before I knew it I had the ball in my hand, and realized it was actually plastic. Upon realizing this, I was nearly 6 feet off the ground, I was going to die by ramming into the ground. I quickly pulled up on the broom, and it too went upwards. Then I was back in the air with Draco, his mouth was wide open.
"Vespera, I swear you must have ridden a broom sometime in your past life! You're amazing. A natural-born seeker!" He went down on the broom, and I followed, until we were on the ground. "You. Stay right there, I'll be right back with company." he then ran back off to the house. I had no idea what he was doing, so I got back on the broom and started flying circles around the empty lawn. I could just see everything running past me quickly in a blur. Flying was definitely one of my most favorite things.
I looked out of the corner of my eye, and on the other side of the field I saw Draco with some random guy. Quite frankly, this guy looked like he could use some braces, and had just been in a fight or had an allergic reaction to something, because his face looked swollen. Whoever it was that Draco had invited over, he was not pretty at all.
I shot across the field, aiming downward, then jumping off my broom when it was near the ground, and it hit the ground running to where the two guys were. I didn't hesitate getting off and stopping the broom, it was easier than getting on and taking off. I didn't even fall on my face (much to my relief).
I held the broom in one hand and stood in front of them, I held out my right hand and the guy with a weird face took it. "I'm Vespera Salazar, nice to meet you." Although, it was not nice to meet this tall older fellow. He had to be older than Fred and George, if I had to guess he'd probably be 2, maybe even 3 years older than them, making him almost 5 years older than me. I would not show him that I was slightly terrified of him.
"Marcus Flint." he said shortly, then turned to Draco, "She's short and a girl. Malfoy, we do not allow girls on our team. We have no need for runts who can't handle themselves."
I was outraged by this, "Excuse me sir." I did my signature 'I'm mad' move, and stomped my foot. "I can perfectly well handle myself, and I won't stand for you trying to displace me just because I'm a girl." He was a good 2 feet taller than me, but I was used to talking up to people trying to make them listen to me. I turned to Draco, "Draco Malfoy, I don't know why you brought this sexist pig back with you, but I refuse to join any team that expresses such opinions." I held out my hand to give Draco the gold ball back, then got back on the broom and took off.
After a few minutes, Flint was no where in sight, and Draco called to me, "This time it's going to be harder to catch! Try your best!" I nodded, then Draco threw a gold golf ball in the air. This one actually moves in different directions, and appeared to have wings.
I chased it down, and every time I thought I was near catching it, the darn thing fled from me again. I was determined to catch it though. I didn't know what kind of spell Draco was using, but I would definitely have to learn it.
The golden ball was hovering a foot from the ground, it thought it was safe. I WOULD TEACH THAT THING WRONG. I nose-dived for the ball, reached out with my hand to grab it, and realized I wouldn't be able to pull back up. So instead, I rolled off my broom before I would crash into the ground. The roll was probably much safer. I hoped.
I looked up at the sky, then held the gold ball in front of my face examining it. The thing did have wings, and they were still fluttering.
Draco came over and held his hand out, and I handed him them golden ball. He stuck it in his pocket, then held out his hands to help me get up. I took them of course, then rolled my shoulders backwards. He was grinning at me, then I saw that horrid Marcus Flint coming over from behind the trees.
I glared at Draco, and when Flint came over and stood still I told him, "What part of I don't want to see a sexist pig, don't you understand?"
He shook his head, "You Salazar have a natural gift. I've never seen anyone catch a snitch quite that fast." Quite that fast? It had taken me at least 3 hours. He continued, "If you catch that snitch in 15 minutes every game, we'd be sure to win the quidditch cup. I'll talk to Snape, get him to approve a firstie having a broom. Practice starts the first full day of classes at 6 in the evening."
I raised an eyebrow, "Okay, hang on. The first flaw in your plan is that Professor Snape is dead convinced that I will be in Ravenclaw as Slytherin is unfit for me in his opinion. Good luck on getting him to agree with anything that deals with me."
Flint shrugged his shoulders, "So what? I won't tell him what firstie. Trust me, you'll be in Slytherin." He kinda laughed, "No one has ever back talked me since I was a first year." He then looked to Draco, "Don't let her bail out on me." Draco nodded. "I'm going to have to go, I was supposed to be, well, not going out." Draco nodded again, keeping silent, then waved goodbye to Flint.
Draco smiled at me, "You deserve to be on a quidditch team. You're a natural. Come on, don't be mad at me."
I shrugged, "Whatever Draco. I'm going back inside. I have books to read." I then walked back to where we got the broom from, put it in, then walked into the manor.
I went upstairs and saw an owl in my room, it was just sitting there, then it made some owl noise at me. I walked over and saw it had a letter, I untied it, "Can you wait for me to reply?" The owl seemed to nod it's head.
I opened the letter and it read:
Dear Star,
It was a pleasure to meet you yesterday. I'm writing in the hopes that you aren't killed yet living in the Malfoy Manor. Mum has grounded Ronikins in his room until the first day of Hogwarts, therefore it's safe to come over whenever. I'm sure the Malfoy's have a floo, most wizards do. Say you want to go to The Burrow, and you'll show up in our living room. Please reply soon, or else George and I may have to infiltrate the Malfoys.
Yours Truly,
Fred Weasley
I had to chuckle at his letter, and quickly started a reply:
Dear Fred,
It was the same to meet you. I'm glad not all wizards are as stuck up as the Malfoy's are. Although, they are quite kind, and let me keep to myself. It would help if Draco wasn't so pushy. We went to ride brooms, my first time on one mind you, then next thing you know, I have Marcus Flint on the field offering me a spot on the Slytherin quidditch team! Apparently, I'm a 'natural born seeker' because I can 'catch a snitch in less than 15 minutes.' What if I don't end up in Slytherin? He'll probably become my worst enemy because he wants me on the team. Being in this house is a headache. Honestly, Jaelah yelled at me because she wasn't watch where she was going. Then the house-elf Dobby is so odd and won't help me find where I need to be, I've gotten lost several times.
Yes, the Malfoy's have a floo. Who doesn't have a floo? Why is your home called The Burrow? It seems to be an odd name. If you infiltrate the Malfoy Manor, be careful, there are a lot of wards protecting it. I'll try to come over soon.
Truly yours,
Vespera Salazar
I tied the letter back onto the owl's leg, then it flew off. I smiled, then had an idea. I found the book of jokes that Fred had me get yesterday, and opened it to a random page. This, would prove promising.
It didn't look like a difficult spell, it would just change the color of whatever you used the spell on. I read about it, and decided I would try using the spell later, it would be useless as of now. I took a shower, then put a long white skirt on with a light blue top, and rebraided my hair.
I looked outside, for the hopes that maybe Fred had sent another letter, but, alas, he had not yet sent one.
I walked back downstairs, and towards the room that Cissy had indicated for Jaelah to wait in. Inside I heard Draco talking to whoever was present in the room.
"It was dreadful, that giant oaf Hagrid was there pretending like he had some kind of buisness in Diagon's Alley, and the other boy there while I was getting my robes fixed was so unsure of himself. It was horrible company. Not only that, but the oaf was the one escorting the boy. The boy was so scrawny it was pitiful. He said his mum and dad were both wizards though, but they're dead. There's no way that he'll be in Slytherin. It'd be impossible." I walked into the room, and sat in the only available spot, next to Draco. "Then we left and went to some other store for Father. Then, came home. If only that witch wasn't so slow at fixing the robes." Draco smiled at me, "Mother, you should have seen Vesperra on the broom. She was a natural. She may even end up playing at Hogwarts."
I glared at him, "I thought I implied to not talk about that Draco." I looked at Cissy, "The Weasley's invited me over to The Burrow, Ronald has been locked in his room, so he wouldn't be a bother to me. What do you think about it?"
Draco laughed, "Those Weasleys have more children than they can afford. Some wizaring families are better than others. You know you shouldn't make friends with those sort, blood traitors. We're the kind of company you should keep."
I looked at him and rolled my eyes, "I'm pretty sure I was not asking your opinion Draco. I was asking your mother."
Jaelah's eyes opened wide, "Vespera, you should not go over there. If you do that, people will start questioning your blood purity."
Cissy had a different opinion, "Now, we don't get along with the Weasleys, however, you two shouldn't tell Vespera who she can and can't be friends with. You both know that if she doesn't go into Slytherin, neither of you will associate with her anymore. So let her enjoy other people's company. At least they are purebloods. " she turned and looked at me, "I think you should go spend time with them. Although, don't you think you should tell your parents?"
I shook my head, "My mother doesn't care what I do really. My father cared, but he died a long while ago." I shrugged, "I'm used to it." I stood up, "I'll probably leave soon then. Although, would it still be okay if I came back tonight to stay? If it's not too much trouble for me staying here?"
Cissy shook her head, "We would love having you here Vespera. You can only stay a weak though, we have company coming over that it would be best that you not have to interact with."
I smiled, "Thank you very much. Pardon, but Fred said I should use the floo?"
Jaelah stood, "I'll show her, I must be heading back home. It was nice to have your company Mrs. Malfoy." I followed Jaelah down the hall through the kitchen, where she stopped and turned to me. "I don't know who you are or your intentions with Draco are, but back off, he's mine."
I opened my eyes wide, "Jaelah, I have no intentions of being with Draco right now. Quite frankly, I don't know Draco well enough to have a relationship with. Sure, he's a good-looking guy, but his attitude is not something I can stand to deal with. If that's the only reason you don't like me, then you can forget that."
Jaelah smiled, then wrapped an arm around my shoulders, "Then, you and I, Vespera, are going to be great friends. Then when you come to Hogwarts next year, You'll have one friend there already." I tried interrupting her, to tell her I was in the same year, but she continued walking, she got to the floo, took green powder and said, "Faymore Manor," she threw down the powder and waved at me, then she was gone.
I took the same powder and whispered, "The Burrow," then threw the powder down.
Next time:
The Burrow.
You'll meet another character :D
This is the longest chapter yet, I know it's a shock. I hope you enjoy :3
