Without further waiting: Chapter 13!
I woke up, and saw a curtain, then turned my head, and saw an older lady fluttering around. When I tried sitting up, she walked over to me, "You have had quite a time already haven't you?" I shrugged, and didn't say anything.
Then, suddenly, 4 adults came in, one of them holding a hat.
"You are Miss Salazar correct?" The older lady said, who was carrying the hat.
I nodded, "Yes ma'am"
"I'm Professor McGonagall. it seems you weren't fit to attend the welcoming feast. Therefore, you will receive dinner once you've made it to your assigned house." I nodded, and she continued, "This hat will be placed upon your head, and will sort you, understand?" I nodded again, and the hat opened it's eyes.
"Well, well. What do we have here? A troublemaker who didn't make the feast. You missed my song! I must sing it again!" The hat exclaimed, seemingly happy that it had a chance to sing twice in one day.
Professor Snape stepped forward, "We do not have time for your pointless singing. Continue forward with sorting the girl so we may all stop wasting our time."
The hat seemed to glare at the Professor, "I'll just sing the end of it then." Then, the hat started to sing, quite well actually.
"Then finally came Gryffindor with a brilliant plan,
Why not make a sorting hat with aspects of all?
So, he took off his hat and the founders transformed it.
Ravenclaw made sure it that her house only accepted the intelligent,
While Slytherin made sure that his house accepted only the purest of ancestry.
Furthermore, Gryffindor made sure that his house only accepted the brave of heart,
but Hufflepuff made sure that her house accepted all that weren't accepted elsewhere.
Then I came into being and have been chosen to choose where you go
So, try me on and I will tell you where you ought to be,
I will make sure that the right house will be what you need!"
I raised my eyebrow at it, "It was a very nice song, however, wouldn't it be wiser to go ahead and sort me? Perhaps you can sing it to the Minister of Magic next time he visits Professor Dumbledore."
The hat smiled at that, "That would be marvelous!" Then, McGonagall sat it upon my head.
"Hmm very interesting mind here full of knowledge, I see, and quite brave too. Oh and it seems that you might fit into Hufflepuff, with your tolerance, as well but what house to put you in? So many similar traits to different houses. You could very well be in anyone of them." The hat was talking to me inside of my mind, I assumed I could answer it.
" I think I would do best in Slytherin! I want to be in Slytherin."
"Slytherin, hmm, are you quite sure about that? You are a muggle born only the purest ancestry can go into Slytherin."
"I want to be in Slytherin you stupid hat! I'm friends with Draco already, Slytherin can do great things for me. Don't question my blood purity, forget what you think you know about me and how pure my blood is. My last name reflects that of the first of Salazar Slytherin. I rightfully belong in this house."
"It would be highly difficult for you in Slytherin, you would have to hide the truth of yourself always, as I'm sure you have already learned."
"They all think I am pure blood, and that's all that matters. I'll be cunning enough to fool them all 7 years that I'm in Hogwarts."
"If you're so positive." The hat then spoke up, "This girl belongs in Slytherin!" he declared to the teachers.
I smirked, as the teachers had a shocked face, they knew my family only consisted of muggles. "It seems the girl is your responsibility Severus." Professor McGonagall said.
He glared down at me, "It appears so." He turned around, his black robe swooping behind him, "I will not stand for any more of this dilly-dallying. Miss Salazar, follow me."
I rolled my eyes, but followed the snotty old Professor. I would make him like me, one way or the other. When we reached the dungeon of the castle, Snape suddenly turned around and had his wand pointing at my throat. "Miss Salazar, you will do well to remember that you will never truly belong here. How you got the sorting hat to put you here I will never understand. You are a muggleborn student, and you better put on your best act of being a pureblood."
This Professor was getting on my nerves, so I did the unthinkable, the last thing anyone should ever do to a professor.
I pulled out my wand from my holster, and poked it into his side, "As far as anyone in this school needs to know, I am a Slytherin, and I am a pureblood. No one else needs to know otherwise, or will know otherwise. I will belong here, because the other first years of this house accepted me while we were on the train."
I ducked under his arm, and then heard in my head, 'The girl will never figure out where the common rooms entrance is, or what the password is.' A picture of the wall a few steps ahead of me appeared, along with the word, 'Serpentera.'
I walked a few steps past the door then turned around and looked at the professor who was approaching, "I know the door is right here," I pointed to the wall in front of me, "I would enter first, but how odd that would look to the other Slytherins, some first year they don't know entering their common room? They may think I'm a Gryffindor trying to prank them." At this point Professor Snape was standing in front of the door, and had turned to face it, when I spoke, "Serpentera."
He looked at me shocked, then walked into the room, with me following. It seemed the upper years were about to tell a story.
"There will be no frivolous story telling until after I am gone. Understood?" The room immediately silenced, and the students were nodding their heads. I stepped from behind Snape, and raised my eyebrow at Draco, smirking. Snape gestured at me, "This is Vespera Salazar, she was taken ill when getting off the train, and as such the sorting hat sorted her minutes ago, and placed her in our house."
I heard a loud "Whoop!" from the corner, along with others clapping. I turned to see who had made the noise, and saw Flint grinning a very crooked grin (seriously, why didn't he have straighter teeth? His parents can't afford to learn a teeth spell?). He pointed to me, then whispered in the ear of a guy beside him. Flint then gave me a thumbs up, I had been approved to play Quidditch and own a broom.
I went and sat next to Jaelah, as there was no way I was going to sit near Crabbe or Goyle, the two body guards that Draco had suddenly acquired.
Snape began to talk, and everyone silenced, "Rule number one of the Slytherin house, is to stand as a united form outside of this area. Slytherins are the enemy of all other houses, and as such you can not seem separated from each other. All arguments between each other will happen in these rooms, and will be resolved by an upper housemate, within a reasonable amount of time." This lecture, was already boring. I was going to fall asleep before he was done with rule one. "Rule two, you will always be on time. If I ever hear of anyone being tardy to a class, you will serve whatever punishment that professor gives you, as well as a detention with me. You will find posted on the board a schedule of when each year should awaken to get ready, a study schedule and groups, and a schedule for curfew. Anyone who does not follow these mandatory schedules, will receive a week of detention." I might as well have been going to a military camp. "You are all expected to excel at all of your classes, and I expect that as well. If anyone needs tutoring you may ask an upper classman, or myself. the two rules I have given you are the rules along with the rules of the school. Do you all understand?"
We nodded, then Snape walked out of the room, quickly and without hovering.
The guy that had been talking when we entered let out a sigh of relief. "As I was saying before, every year, the third years tell the story to the first years, of how Slytherin came to be. It all started when the founders started Hogwarts. Each of the houses were named after one of the founders, Helga Hufflepuff, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin." When the boy said 'Salazar' There was immediately several eyes on me, along with some whispers. It was something I'd have to get used to probably. I just smiled and waved my fingers at them, as the boy started talking again. "The four founders were very diligent in building Hogwarts, and all started inviting the magical students to join the school to learn. The other three founders were happy to take in all students, half bloods, purebloods, and mudbloods." the boy made a disgusted face with the word mudbloods, "However, only Slytherin was wise enough to see that having the blood filth in this castle would eventually destroy it. Him and the other founders began to become more separated. When the school started, with blood filth included, Slytherin left. The founders believed that he had left the school entirely, and never was seen by them again. However, that was just what he wanted them to believe." He smirked at this, "Salazar Slytherin built a secret chamber inside of the school, and only taught the purest of the wizards how to get in. Upon Slytherin's dying days, he was forced to push the wizards out of the chambers, and he sealed if for good. He told the youngest of the wizards that the chamber would open again one day, when Salazar Slytherin's true heir came to the wizarding world. This heir would be able to open the Chamber of secrets, and release a great beast unto the rest of the school, to destroy the blood filth and to start anew with pure blooded wizards."
The room was filled with silence, and I had to ask, "Does anyone know what the great creature is?"
A girl spoke up, "It's rumored that it's a basilisk snake. It would be the only fitting creature for Salazar Slytherin to have placed with the destruction of the filth."
Draco chose to spoke up, "At least we know none of our house will be killed whenever it happens."
The others nodded, then the fifth year prefect, Gemma, spoke up, "Okay, now that we're done telling the legends of Slytherin, first and second years, you're to be up to shower at 6 a.m. and will have 20 minutes to shower. If you ever need to be reminded of this, check the board. We will all leave for breakfast at promptly 7:25. Everyone is to be lined up by their year. Girls, your dorms are to the right of the giant snake in the back of the room. Boys, your dorms are to the left of the giant snake. No mixing genders in the common rooms." We all nodded, "That's all I have." She glanced at the other prefects, then at Flint, and he stood.
"Quidditch players, we'll be having a meeting before curfew, so the rest of you hurry up and get out of here." Once Flint said 'get out' everyone got up, and walked out, Draco patted me on the shoulder, then left.
Jaelah held out her hand, and I took it, then stood still. "Didn't you hear him Vespera? We're supposed to get out of here."
I smiled, "I know, I'll be out in a minute." She shrugged, then went to the girls dorms.
I walked over to where there were 5 other people sitting at the table, with Flint at the head of the table, all males. One of them looked down on me, "Didn't you hear little girl? Quidditch players only. Why don't you go on and play with your hair. No one cares if your last name is Salazar."
I rolled my eyes, then sat down in the 7th chair, on the opposite side of the table, and coincidentally, next to the guy who had just called me a little girl.
He spoke again, "Are you deaf?" He shoved me, to push me out of the chair, and I jsut stayed there, and looked at Flint. Who did nothing, but was just watching to see what would happen.
"I'm not deaf, nor am I just a little girl. You undermine my last name, which may be your second mistake, the first calling me little. My size may be small, but did you ever consider, that shorter people make better Seekers?" I raised my eyebrow, and he was still glaring at me, and the pulled out his wand, and I pulled out mine."Aaawww did I hit the poor guys nerve?"
"Stupefy!" He yelled at me, and I flicked my wand upward, as I had when I was fighting against Ron, while I was thinking 'Please have a shield show up.'
I was lucky enough, that the spell was reflected, and hit the guy back, as he just sat perfectly still without moving. "Perhaps, that will teach you not to attack those who are smaller. Size isn't everything." I smirked, then left him alone, mainly because I didn't know the counter curse.
Flint grinned at me, then chose that point to begin talking to the team. "Okay team, we have a top-notch Seeker this year, who you've all met now. This is Vespera Salazar, our seeker. Yes, she's a first year, and yes she's a girl. You're to treat her with respect , if I hear otherwise from you, while inside or outside of the house, either I, or she, has the complete right to curse you. Understand?" The all nodded, except for the one guy who was stupefied. "The first practice will be tomorrow at 6. Don't be late." He then looked straight at me, "Show up in your quidditch gear. Make sure you get your own broom quickly."
I smirked, "I already have my broom. You said you'd get me on the team, I assumed that you could manage it,I figured going ahead with getting the broom would only be wise."
He nodded, "We have myself, Adrian Pucey, and Terence Higgs as chasers, Miles Bletchley our keeper," he pointed to the one who was frozen. "Peregrine Derrick and Lucian Bole, the beaters. Go on your way minions, don't forget tomorrow night." With that he stood up, and went to the guys dorms with the others, while I went towards the girls dorms.
I then remembered about Bletchley, and walked over to him, "Sorry, Bletchley! I don't know the counter, so you'll just have to stay there until someone comes along. I'll learn the counter for next time!" Then I skipped off into the girls side, and through a door that had a giant "1" on it.
I walked over to the only empty bed, and sat down on it. "What took you so long to get in here?" One girl said.
I shrugged, and opened my trunk to unpack my clothes. "I heard Draco saying you were good in quidditch?" Jaelah seemed to ask.
I smiled, as I pulled out a broom from my new broom I had bought yesterday.
The girl I didn't know her name gasped, "Brooms aren't allowed by first years. You're going to get detention on your first day here!" Then the girl ran out the door, assuming to tell a prefect.
Tracey looked at me worried, "They aren't allowed for first years... you should hide it before a prefect comes in."
I shook my head, "I'm on the quidditch team, the seeker. I have permission to have a broom. This, is the fastest broom in existence right now, the newest Nimbus." I smiled, then put the broom in plain view on top of my trunk at the end of my bed. I then grabbed a pair of pajamas, and slipped them on, waiting for the girl to come back with a prefect.
Lucky for me, it was Gemma. She walked in and looked at my broom, then back at me, "I heard that a first year had a broom, and I just had to come and give the first year detention. " She rolled her eyes, then walked over to the broom and picked it up. "This is a really nice broom, it'll do well to win." She put it back down, "I'm glad that you're on our team. It's been full of boys for too long. Good luck in practice tomorrow." She smiled at me, then put a mean face on and glared at the girl, "Pansy, you will do well to know the full story before coming to a Prefect again, when you should be asleep," then, she stormed off.
"Why didn't you tell me you were on the quidditch team?" Pansy asked.
"Well, I would have, but you stormed off before I had the chance to. Maybe you should have stuck around instead of immediately trying to tell." I smirked, then laid down in my bed. I had probably made an enemy of Pansy, but quite frankly I didn't care.
I laid in my bed, and looked at the ceiling, adoring the green fabric that was surrounding the bed. I then pulled the string, and covered my bed so the others couldn't see me. "Good night all, I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning." Then, I went to sleep.
I was ready for the next day, classes would be exciting, perhaps a little dull, but mostly exciting.
Hogwarts, was going to be fantastic.
THATS IT.
THE END OF CHAPTER 13!
Next: Classes and Quidditch.
