So I have no idea where I'm going with this :D (That's a lie)
To the reviewers:
Mariam: I will not stop this story until it's finished. I'm glad you waited on me to post it again. I'm trying to post as much as possible, but I have a lot of homework and stuff.
Jaelah: Hi :) I DID THIS JUST FOR YOU (not really. Just homework procrastinating)
I only own Vespera, and I puppet over the rest. JK Rowling did a lot of the character thinking :)
I woke up the next morning, and got out of the bed. I showered like I did the day before, and put on the school uniform. The other girls were still asleep when I was getting dressed, so I went to each of them and shook them, but none of them woke up. I stood in the center of the room and said, "I'm waking you up now, and I'll try again later when there's only 20 minutes. If I were you, I'd wake up now so you can have time to shower."
None of them moved, and I shrugged, fixing my hair into a braid again. I had potions after lunch, and since my work robe was already in my bag, all would work out if I just left straight from lunch to potions.
I pulled on my shoes, then said again, "You now have half an hour to get ready." I then walked out the door, none of the girls moving. I sighed and walked to Gemma, "The other first year girls aren't waking up, and I can't do anything about it." I then went and sat beside the fire and opened one of my textbooks, the potions one.
After I had read over what I expected today's lesson would be, I looked at the clock and realized 25 minutes had passed. None of the first year girls were there yet, and I guess that the Prefects were just going to let them. I stood in my place in line, ignoring those trying to ask me where I had been. We walked to breakfast, without the other girls.
I sat down next to Draco and filled my plate for breakfast. Then someone came behind me and whispered in my ear, "Don't be afraid. No one else will find your secret, unless you make me mad." I immediately tensed up and looked at Samuel. He spoke in a louder voice, "Hullo Vespera, I hope the evening treated you well. I heard you lost your place on quidditch already, such a pity."
I shook my head and said in a whisper, "Go away Samuel."
Instead of leaving he sat next to me, "I heard that they found a girl down in the dungeon last night, bleeding and in shock. You wouldn't happen to know who that was would you?" He slung his arm around my shoulder.
I shook my head, "It's none of your business of what happens in Slytherin land. It would do you well to remember that we snakes stick together." I looked over at Draco, he had heard nothing because of him focusing on eating, and ignoring the Ravenclaw.
"Don't be like that, keep being rude to me, and you know what'll happen little girl?" He leaned closer to me, "Mudblood." Then he poked my side with his wand, then slid it across where I had been hurt yesterday. My eyes opened wide and I looked at him, terrified. "You'd be surprised what a little obliterate spell could do. Maybe you could lose a few hours. Don't run from me next time Vespera." Then he stood up, and left.
I put my toast down, ignoring the plateful of food I had in front of me. Draco looked over at me and raised his eyebrow, "You okay Vespera?"
I nodded, then put a smile on my face, "I'm fine. I need to go talk to Professor Snape before classes start." I picked up my book bag, then left the table and went down to the Potions classroom, and knocked on the door.
"Enter," said Professor Snape's voice. He was working on a potion, and either it shocked him that I would dare enter his room when he was working on potions, or my face shocked him. "What happened?"
My face it was then. "Samuel... Samuel Nathair. He came to me during breakfast and wouldn't leave, and still threatened to tell everyone about me. Then he...he traced his wand down the same line that had been cut open yesterday, telling me that he obliviated me." I held my head, "He took my memory away. I don't know what happened because of him."
Snape walked towards his office, and motioned me to follow. I walked in and sat down, he sat at the other side of the desk.
"Miss Vespera, what you have accused him of doing is a serious offense, and if you choose to continue telling these things, you will have to be on trial. If he is found not guilty, you will be sentenced for spreading lies." Snape seemed so calm about this all, as if all was going to be fine.
"You don't believe me do you? Of course you wouldn't. You don't even like me." I sighed, and looked around his room at the different live potions ingredients he had.
"I never said that Miss Salazar. You are unaware of the influence that Mr. Nathair's family has in the wizarding world. They will do all they can to make sure that he is in the right. They may even go as far as testing your blood, then all of this will be let into the public." He looked at me calmly, "The best thing you can do is to ignore him. What I want to know is why another Slytherin or Prefect didn't stop this incident at breakfast from happening?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "The prefects didn't really care about the first years this morning, all the other girls slept late and they made no motion to wake them up. The quidditch team is mad at me for missing the practice yesterday, and Draco was ignoring that a Ravenclaw was sitting next to me." There was a snake on the wall for his ingredients.
"I will talk to the others, there will be a house meeting tonight. Also, I believe the paper read that the seeker tryouts were open for all Slytherin house members. He never said you couldn't try out." Professor Snape smirked, as if he enjoyed finding loopholes.
I nodded, "Thank you Professor. I won't mention it to anyone else."
I was about to leave the door when I heard a voice say, "Gooood Luck young sssseeeekeer."
I turned around and raised an eyebrow at the Professor, but he hadn't said anything, he just wanted me to leave. I shrugged and opened the door, "Looook upsssss." I looked up beside the door, and saw the snake. "You underssssstand messs?"
I looked at Professor Snape, "Professor, why do you have a talking snake on your wall?"
He looked shocked, "That is a normal snake Miss Salazar. Snakes do not talk."
I shrugged and nodded, "It must have been my imagination." I then walked out, and ran into the other first year girls, who were frantically running up the stairs. "Good Morning girls."
Pansy glared at me, "You could have woken us up Salazar!"
I shrugged, again, "I tried to wake each of you up, then you as a whole. I told Gemma too and she chose to do nothing. I'm sorry that you just now woke up. At least you aren't late to your first class?"
Jaelah looked at me, "We are late though. Classes started 5 minutes ago. Why were you in Snape's office anyways?"
I rolled my eyes, "Apparently someone thought it was a good idea to allow a Ravenclaw to stay sitting at our table, since Samuel was sitting next to me, I told Snape about it so he could get him to bugger off."
Jaelah laughed and threw her arm around my shoulders, similar to how Samuel had earlier, except this was friendly. "Of course. You just have the eye of everyone don't you? But stay away from that guy. It's Samuel and you don't need that blood filth to contaminate you. He's a pureblood, but he might as well be a mudblood with how much muggle things his family looks into." I laughed along with her, then we all walked into charms, late.
As a result, we each had to write a foot long paper, but that was nothing. Charms was amazing, and I managed to actually get the incantation to work.
In history of Magic, it was taught by a ghost. It was the most boring class, even Magical Theory was better than this one. During History of Magic I managed to finish toe charms homework, and the punishment essay. I would have done my transfiguration essay too if I had the book for it.
When the torture class was finally over, we left for lunch. I made sure to stay between Jaelah and Draco, although neither knew what was happening or why I was acting strange. We ate our food in peace, until the last few minutes of lunch.
"Hey Vespera. Do you want to go for a walk with me?" I heard a voice from behind me say.
"No thank you Samuel, I have class soon, and I don't want to be late for Potions." I turned and looked at him and smiled, "Professor Snape doesn't let anyone be late for class, and I fear that if I went anywhere with you I would be."
He shrugged, "I have something interesting to tell you though. I doubt you want the entire table to know do you?"
I shook my head and stood up, "Jaelah, if I'm late to class tell Professor Snape that I'm not feeling well." She nodded twice, I hoped she wouldn't actually tell Snape that. I then walked out following Samuel. We walked out of the castle, and towards the lake. That was where I saw them again. "The thestrals."
I went up to one, and its nose felt like bone, just like how it looked. "You really can see them then. Who died?"
I frowned, "A lot of people." I didn't want to go into with him, he didn't need to know.
"Come on. I'll go first then. I saw death the first time with my mom. She was stabbed to death, while I was in the room hiding under the bed. I managed to get out without being killed myself. It's a horrible thing, dying before your parents." He smiled a sad smile.
"I thought you lived with your mom and dad, the Nathair's?" I asked questioningly, Snape had said they were powerful.
He shook his head, "I was adopted by them. I was an only child as far as I was concerned, and my parents were only children. There was no way I would go and be raised by my grandparents, so alas, I took up the name Nathair, and that's all anyone knows, besides you and the Nathairs of course." He raised an eyebrow at me, "Your turn."
I sighed, "I saw my entire family die. They were burnt up in a fire. I was outside playing, because my brother hated me, I was only 2, and he was 4 or 5. He hated having a sibling, let alone a girl, that much I remember. My dad was watching me from the window, then he suddenly left, and ran upstairs. I saw through the window two guys, one being dad. The stranger guy stabbed him. Then I hid behind a tree. Next thing I knew, my entire house was set on fire, and I was the only one left alive. My mother didn't make it out, and I never heard if my brother had made it or not, I assumed he had been stabbed too. He had been with mum. My parents were only children, and no one knew who I was, let alone who my grandparents were, I just always assumed they were already dead." I had sat down by this point, and held my knees to my chest. I always was scarred by this memory, and I had just told a stranger about it all. "I was adopted by the Crowleys. I always kept my last name though, and eventually people began referring to my mother as Salazar, so she too changed her name to match mine. I think it was so people would keep thinking I was her blood daughter, we look alike, we might as well have the same name. I would never change mine though, so of course she did what she had to do."
He nodded, "So your actual last name is Salazar?" I nodded, "Interesting..."
"Salazar! Nathair! What makes you think you can skip classes! Inside both of you!" Professor Snape came towards us, his black capes swishing behind him. Samuel ran away as quickly as he could, meanwhile I stayed there. "Are you okay? He didn't harm you did he?"
I shook my head, "It seemed he just wanted to know why I could see the Thestrals." I smiled up at one, as it nudged my head.
"You can see them?" He nodded, "It is always a sad thing." He held out his hand, and I stood up, "Come along Vespera." He then touched the nose of a Thestral, and left.
"Sir, how did you find us?" I asked. "And why is it you seemed to have changed your attitude about me overnight?"
He glared at me, "Jaelah informed me of what happened, and I started them to work with their potion, which, you will be brewing tonight during detention for missing class." I nodded, knowing that I couldn't get away from doing the potion. "In addition, the second anyone is placed into Slytherin, they have a charm put on them, allowing me to find them. As for my attitude, you are a snake, and as such you will only be treated differently in the presence of others. Are we understood?"
I nodded, "Yes sir." I then followed him inside of the potions classroom, where the other Slytherins were. I sat down next to Jaelah and smiled, and she smiled back. After class, we went to the lovely magical theory class, and I almost died of boredom.
"Would someone notice if we ditched class?" Draco asked, falling back on the couch in the common room.
I nodded, "Snape would. He has a charm on all of us. If one of us is astray, he would know."
I sighed and walked up into the dorm, and changed clothes into something quidditch appropriate. I then grabbed my broom, and walked back out. Draco raised his eyebrow, "I thought you weren't playing?"
I smiled, "I'm not. But I see posted that they have quidditch tryouts today, and I plan on trying out for the seeker spot. I'll explain to Flint about yesterday, and hopefully all will end well."
Draco stood up, "Well I'll walk you out then. Try to get you to not get killed."
I smiled, and we walked outside to the quidditch field, where Flint was. "Salazar. You aren't on the team, so get off the field."
I shrugged, "Open auditions Flint, and you can't keep me away."
He glared, "We don't accept no-shows to our team."
I was getting annoyed, "It's not like it was my fault! I didn't ask for someone to follow me into the dungeon, cut my side open, and then obliterate me! I would have been at practice if I had been aware of where I was and what time it was, however, that was near impossible with the lack of blood I had. Now I'm fine, and I'm going to audition for the seeker spot, Captain Flint." I then got on my broom, and went into the air with the other seeker auditionees.
The quidditch team got on their brooms, "Okay prospects, the team is going to do five laps around the field, if you can't get past us, you're automatically out, and the seeker has to be the fastest of us all." The got up, and started flying, when they passed us the first time Flint said, "Go."
This was definitely a quick way to get people out, I didn't imagine how many people couldn't fly fast on a broom. Only 5 of the 15 people made it past the team, I was one of them. Flint now held out a gold ball, a snitch. "This is on practice mode. First person to catch it 5 times will be the seeker." He released it, then motioned, "Go on then."
The other 4 seekers took off after it, while I just sat on my broom. I closed my eyes, and opened them again, and glanced around, at the cluster of people chasing the snitch. I shook my head, and waited. It took off away from them, and back towards my direction, where it didn't sense a person, because I wasn't moving. I took off towards it, and grabbed it before the other seekers could get to it. I grinned, and let it back go.
If you repeat that scenario, another 3 times that is how the next hour went. I purposefully stopped trying for half an hour of it, just hoping that maybe one of them would catch it, before my impatience gave out, and I caught the snitch.
I landed, next to the other 4 guys, and handed Flint the Snitch. Bletchley came over and raised my hand, "We have our seeker!" The other members clapped with him, except for Flint. The other seeker potentials left and moped away, because they had just been beat out by a girl. "I see why Flint was so quick to put you on the team before. You're phenomenal! When did you first ride a broom? When you were 3? You must have been training for it for a long time."
I shrugged and smiled, "I actually haven't been riding that long. I only started about a month ago, and I had only rode it the day Flint saw me, then the next at the Weasley's place." I made a face, so they wouldn't judge me for being at the Weasleys. "My parents weren't the best kind of people, didn't allow me to use magic because they thought I should have a "Well rounded fully muggle knowledge." Ugh. It was unbelievable."
Bletchley was shocked, "With practice no quidditch game is going to last longer than 5 minutes. We may have some Saturdays back in our lives!" He laughed, and the team started walking off the field, except for Flint.
"Salazar, if you're late to a practice or don't show up, you're off the team and there will be no come backs. Understand?" He glared down at me.
I smiled and nodded, "Of course I do. I will always show up, unless something happens that is dreadfully horrid." I then turned around and ran to Draco, where we walked back to the castle for Dinner.
We walked into the great hall (after I had showered of course, allowing Draco to be dreadfully late.) Draco sat on one side of Jaelah, and I sat on the other. "So," Jaelah began asking, "Did you re-make the team?"
I nodded and smiled, "I did. Playing is going to be interesting though, they've never let a girl on the team. Makes me wonder what they're going to do so I'm not so girl-ish."
She shrugged, "It can't be that bad can it?" I shook my head, and we ate in silence, until the bell rang marking the time to be 7:00.
"Oh no. I have to go." I jumped up, and ran out of the Dining Hall, and into the commons room, grabbed my bag, then ran to Potions detention. I knocked on the door and heard an, "Enter."
I slowly walked in and looked at him from over my nose and said, "I'm late. I'm very sorry sir." I then got the ingredients for the potion, and began following the instructions to brew the potion.
Silence filled the next half hour of my life, as I brewed the potion for my grade. Once I finished, and had cleaned everything away, I handed Snape the vial, and was headed towards the door. "Miss Salazar." I turned and looked at him, waiting for him to discredit my potion, "Perfect Potion. I did not however, say you were dismissed from the detention."
I sighed and sat down in the seat he had just waved at. "Thank you sir, for the potion compliment."
"Miss Salazar, I have a few questions to ask you." HE said, as if he were ready to start judging anything that came out of my mouth. "This is the only way to find out."
"The only way to find out what sir?" I asked, innocently. There must have been multiple ways to find something out.
He nodded, "I did not say anything about finding anything out. Legilimency. A natural born legilimens from a muggle born student, it's unheard of."
"Sir, what is Legilimency?" I asked, fumbling over the word.
"It's what muggles would call Mind Reading." He said.
I quickly interrupted, "Is that why I could hear the snake talking to me earlier?"
His eyes opened widely, "You heard the snake talking to you? I do believe that is impossible."
I shook my head, "Sir, I'm almost positive I heard it speak earlier. It told me 'good luck young seeker', then told me to 'look up', and then asked if I could 'understand' it. Except everything was more Sssssss like, I assume because it was a snake." I wish at this moment, I had a picture of Professor Snapes face, because it was priceless. "Sir, are their cameras that work in the wizarding world?"
He seemed shocked at my question, "Certainly there are, they create photos that move." He stood, and walked into his office, then back out, and began pacing around the room. He was uttering something, not that I had any idea. "You are a Legilimens and a parseltongue. Two traits of a strong witch, and one that is only known by the descendants of Salazar Slytherin himself. You can't possibly be muggleborn."
I shrugged, "I was raised in the muggle world for all my life. I practically grew up in the same house! I didn't know magic existed until last month. I assure you, I am muggleborn." I grinned, "Maybe I'm just awesome and enjoy being the exception to the rule. May I be dismissed sir? I need to get my work done." He nodded, then waved me off, pacing around the room, then suddenly appeared in front of me.
"You will not tell anyone of this conversation. Understood?" He glared at me menacingly, as if he would cut my head off if I told anyone.
I nodded, "Understood, I'm good at keeping secrets about myself. Apparently, everything I learn in the wizarding world I have to keep to myself." I then went around him and started mumbling, "First my blood is a secret, then my wand, now whatever this is..."
"Miss Salazar. Close the door." I sighed and did so. "What about your wand?"
"It's 13 inches long, with Elm wood and a Doxy Wing core." I smiled innocently, I had to keep it a secret. I then felt something trying to intrude in my head, I didn't know what it was, but it wasn't me. I shoved it out, as I would push anything larger than me. It took more than I thought it would, and I began huffing.
"Miss Salazar, you will tell me everything about your wand. Now."
I sighed, "13 inches, Elm wood body, yew handle, a core of basilisk skin, wrapped with Acromantula Web, with a tip of the Doxy Wing. All combined with Goblin Silver." I looked up, only to find an even better shocked face than before. I really needed to invest in a camera.
"You may leave Miss Salazar." He dismissed me, and this time I ran out before he could call me back.
I got into the commons room, and there were no free seats. I could have just sat in the floor, but that would be no fun. I walked over to Jaelah and Draco on the couch, and laid across them, my feet dangling off the side Draco was on, and my head hanging off of the side Jaelah was on. "Why is it, detentions are always more than just making up what you missed?"
They laughed at me, and Jaelah answered, "You have to learn your lesson. And by lesson, I mean you have to learn how to get away with whatever you did wrong next time. I hear that Snape always does strange things for detentions afterwards, and the student never gets the same detention again." We laughed at that.
"It sounds like Uncle Sev." Draco added in.
We all sat there and chatter and talked for half an hour, before Jaelah pushed me off of her, and I fell in the floor. I sat up and glared at her, causing her and Draco to laugh, "You were getting heavy and putting my legs to sleep."
Shortly then after, we said our good nights, and went to our dorms. I wonderful trio of people.
For now.
THE END OF 15! It would have been posted yesterday, but as I'm trying to do better things with grammar and spelling, I don't have time to post it until today. Sooooo yeah
Review :D
