Chapter 19 of procrastination/Celebration!
I'm sorry this chapter took so long to submit, and it definitely isn't even the best chapter I've done before. I've been uber busy with college and what not, and was typing this when I was procrastinating on other things. But it's done now, because I finished my exams for my first semester of college!
Without further ado:
I don't own Harry Potter or its characters. I do own Vespera, and puppet over Jaelah: 3
Enjoy!
I went and sat in the sitting room, next to Draco. Lucius and Narcissa were sitting across from us. Draco and I were drinking hot cocoa, while the adults were drinking coffee.
I had already finished my hot cocoa, because I had no patience. Why savor something that tasted so amazing?
I was bouncing up and down, and Draco glared at me, "Vespera, will you please calm down. What's got you so excited anyways?"
Narcissa glanced at Lucius, and the smiled, as if they knew a secret that someone else in the room didn't.
"It's nothing Draco. Well, it is something I guess, but nothing too important. I mean, it is kind of important. I mean just ignore me." I smiled at him, innocently. I looked at Narcissa, "Can I go to my room now Mu- Cissy."
She looked at me, in a slight awe, but with a touch of gladness. "I would have hoped you would stay in here long enough for us to tell Draco some news." I grinned, "Also, you may call me whatever you see fit to."
"Thank you." I said softly, glad that they were so willing to accept me into their family.
"What is it you need to tell me Mother?" Draco asked, trying to seem all sophisticated.
"You see Draco, in Mid-November we received some pleasing news." Lucius started.
Draco rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah. I know already. Vespera is spending the Winter Break with us. Obviously, as she's sitting right here."
I spoke up, "Not just Winter Break Draco, every break."
He looked at me, "Seriously? That's fantastic! Imagine all the stuff we could do!"
"Draco." Narcissa stopped him, and he grinned sweetly at her. "Your father wasn't finished yet."
"As I was saying," Lucius continued, "In Mid-November, we received some pleasing news. We have went through with that news, and would like to announce that you have a sister."
Draco looked confused, "I have a sister? What did you two go and have another child before me, but decide she wasn't good enough and got rid of her, but decided to bring her back into your good graces?"
I smacked my forehead, "Draco you're a big idiot. I'm your sister."
He looked at me, as if I had grown an extra two heads. "So they had another kid after me and gave you away? But I thought you said you were a Salazar?"
This time, I hit Draco in the back of the head, "There are more than one type of sister you idiot. I'm your adoptive sister. For all intents and purposes I am your sister, just without having the same blood as you."
Draco shrugged, "As if you weren't like that already. Now it's just official that you're here to stay." He grinned mischievously, "You know what this means? I'm your older brother! I get say in who you can and can't date and I get to threaten them if they hurt you. I can't wait to get Weasley!"
I glared at Draco for bringing up Fred, meanwhile Narcissa looked at me with raised eyebrows, "You are with a Weasley? We have much to discuss."
I continued glaring at Draco, "Honestly, I'm not dating Fred. He likes me, and I like him. That's it. I have made it clear that I will not have any romantics with him until I am older. He acknowledged this, and we are simply friends."
Draco laughed, "Friends that kiss each other's cheeks?"
I leaned over and kissed Draco's cheek, then went over and kissed Lucius's and Narcissa's cheeks. "See Draco, completely friendly. May I be excused?" I asked Narcissa, she nodded, and I left up to my room.
Draco followed me and saw my name on my room changed. "Vespera A. Salazar-Malfoy. I like it. What's the A stand for?"
"Think of names with the letter A starting them, and one that relates to when you first saw me dressed up." I told him mysteriously.
He immediately said, "Azalea. The flower you had in your hair or was it on your dress? You had an Azalea."
I nodded, "There's your answer. Good Night now Draco." I paused, "When is Jaelah and her family coming over?"
"Tomorrow actually, Jaelah's family is leaving her here when they leave, because they're traveling to America for a few months, and she can't miss school."
I jumped for joy, "Yes! I need to give her the potion bottles back that I put in the fire."
"Aren't you going to tell her about your last name too? She'd be more excited about that I would think." Draco raised his eyebrow.
I looked at him shyly and started closing my door, "She already knows." I then slammed my door and yelled "Good night Draco!" I then got ready for bed and got under my covers. Tomorrow. Would be a great day.
I woke up the next morning, at the time I had gotten used to, 6. I took a shower, like usual, and put on a green dress with a silver belt, it was Christmas and Slytherin, a perfect combination (I wanted to wear my red dress with a gold belt, obviously, that wouldn't have gone well.).
I braided my hair, then looped it into a bun. I then locked my wand in a drawer, because I saw no need to carry it around the Malfoy house.
I walked into the kitchen and saw Jaelah there already. "Hi Jaelah! I told you we'd see each other soon." I smiled at her.
She glared at me, and didn't talk to me. I shrugged, and sat down for breakfast. Of course, Draco wasn't there yet. "Jaelah, aren't you going to introduce us to your friend?" Jaelah's mom asked her.
Narcissa saw Jaelah trying to ignore me, and helped her before her parents could start harassing her. "I'll introduce her. This is my daughter, Vespera Salazar-Malfoy." She wrapped her arm around my shoulders, and I smiled at her. "This, Vespera, is Mr. Stefan Faymore and Mrs. Leah Faymore." She then looked at me, "You'll learn though, when at completely pureblood functions you are to address them by Phantomhive. Understand?"
I nodded, "Yes ma'am." I smiled at them, "It's a pleasure to officially meet you. Jaelah talks about your travels all the time at school."
Mr. Phantomhive looked at me, "A Salazar? From the line of Salazar Slytherin?"
I nodded, "That's what I've been told. Really though, I have no proof of where I come from. My family was very protective about our documents, and we kept them in our Manor, until it caught on fire, and the papers were destroyed along with the rest of my family." I looked down and twiddled my thumbs.
"Aw poor dear!" Replied Jaelah's mother. "At least now you have more options in the ways of the wizarding world." She smiled at me, and I smiled back.
Draco came down the stairs, "Hello Mother, Mr. and Mrs. Phantomhive, Jaelah, and Vespera. Such a crowd for breakfast this morning!" He smiled then sat down next to me, kissing me on the cheek, completely friendly, and a few moments later food appeared in front of us.
We began placing food on our plates, pancakes and fruit, while listening to the 'adults' talk. Suddenly, another girl came running into the room, "Sorry I'm late! I lost track of time, I was reading the most fascinating book. You wouldn't believe the great ways of torture they had in the 17th century! They could boil a person, or even mutilate them. Oh so fascinating. Imagine how the world would behave if we still threatened them with these kinds of things! Maybe I'll be able to find more about it during the break..." This girl continued on and on, and I began to zone her out.
I whispered to Draco, "Jaelah's older sister?"
He nodded, "Yeah that would be Harmony Phantomhive. Emphasis on the Harm part of her name. She's a complete nut-case."
I looked at him, "How have I not met her? She doesn't look old enough not to be in school, and the entire family is in Slytherin according to you?"
Harmony stopped talking, "Who's this? A guest? A girl friend of yours Draco?" She grinned evilly, "Oh imagine all the fun things we could do with her. She hasn't even begun to see the fun we have over Christmas."
Draco shuddered, "One year she tied me to my bedroom wall, and she just left me there, she supposedly forgot." He glared at her, "I was stuck there until dinner time."
She waved her hand, dismissing it, "That was years ago Draco, stop acting so childish." She sat down across the table from me, and began piling food on her plate, "So tell me about yourself, little miss Draco's girl."
I rolled my eyes, "My name is Vespera Salazar-Malfoy. I am a first year Slytherin at Hogwarts, and quite frankly even with being young, I've realized I really don't like you. You're a pain in the butt, probably because you're always given what you want, a new book on torture, or anything of that sort. You're the older sibling, of course you get everything brand new, a spoiled brat probably. If I had to guess, I'd say you either attended a mental institution for the majority of the year, or Durmstrang. I plan on spending as much of my break away from you and your supposed fun." I then cut off a piece of my pancake and bit into and swallowed it, "The pancakes are amazing."
The entire time I spoke Harmony was gaping at me, but she never said a word to me at breakfast. Draco started laughing, "I've never heard Harmony be so quiet. I would be afraid for your life Vespera. Although, I have no doubt that you'll protect yourself."
I grinned, "Of course I will. I'm just awesome that way."
The Phantomhives stood up, and began saying their goodbyes to us. We were polite, until they had left and then, the fun started.
Jaelah spoke up, "Can I go up to my room?" Cissy nodded, and Jaelah left.
"I'll be in the library." Harmony glared at me. I stared into her eyes, and heard, 'I'm going to kill that little brat.'
I smiled at her, "Have fun Harmony. Don't read anything too dangerous, we all know that you wouldn't possibly try to hurt me." I waved and laughed at her face, then she walked off.
Draco looked at me, "Do you want to play some Quidditch?"
Cissy looked at him and glared, "There will be no such thing such as Vespera getting on a broom Draco. She is forbidden from them, and you perfectly well know that. Why don't you two start your winter homework, so you can enjoy your break later on?"
Draco sighed, but reluctantly followed me, because I had gotten up to go into my room to get my school books. We worked on homework for hours, but were interrupted for lunch.
Harmony didn't join us, and neither did Jaelah. Draco asked Cissy, "After lunch, can we go play in the snow?"
Cissy rolled her eyes, "Fine, but make sure you have a warming spell cast on your first. I don't want you to get frostbite or anything."
He grinned, and quickly finished eating, while I took my time.
After lunch I went and knocked on Jaelah's door, "Hey Jaelah, do you want to build a snowman?"
I stood there and waited for a reply, then Draco came up and told me, "Come on! Let's go and play!"
I knocked on Jaelah's door again, "I never see you anymore, come out the door, it's like you've gone away."
Draco rolled his eyes, he just wanted to leave, "We used to be friends, but now we're not. I wish you would tell me why." He paused, "Seriously, I just want to go outside and play in the snow."
"Come on Jaelah! Do you want to build a snowman?"
She yelled, in a harsh voice, "Go away Vespera! I don't want to see you!"
I frowned and pouted, "Okay, bye..." Then Draco and I bundled up, and cast warming spells on each other, and ran outside to play in the snow.
Of course, we built a snow witch and wizard, they even had a pet owl. Then, we destroyed said snow people, casting spells at each other. To say the least, it was the best day of snow I had ever had, I never wanted this fun to end. We ran inside, and drank hot chocolate, and just talked about everything. I had a long talk with Cissy and Lucius, while Draco was missing.
We then sat down for dinner, Jaelah sat the farthest she possibly could from me, which was only across the table, and to the left of me, her sister sat directly across from me, Draco next to me, Lucius at the head of the table, and Cissy at the other end.
We ate in silence, and the entire time Harmony was glaring at me, and Jaelah was ignoring me. If this was how the rest of my break was going to be, it was going to be a long boring time.
Twelve days passed like this, following the exact pattern. Everyone was safe so far, and yet no progress had been made on Jaelah talking to me.
Today was Christmas Eve though, and there was, of course, a ball for the pureblood wizards. I had written Fred several times over the break already, however, I burned them as soon as they were written. I wouldn't keep in contact with him, I wouldn't break his heart.
I sat in my room, and stepped into a Christmas red dress, one that had little butterflies on it. I slid on my white flats, and then Cissy walked into the room, and spelled my hair into loose curls. She then slid the Azalea flower into my hair, and I smiled up at her, this all felt so familiar, but yet so different.
"Come along Vespera, we have much to do. Tonight, will be the first time you are introduced as one of our family to the rest of the wizarding world." She smiled down at me, and my smile grew to a giant grin across my face.
I ran out the door, and knocked on Jaelah's door, "Come on Jaelah! I know you're in there! Are you ready?" She opened the door, and glared at me. She then pushed past me without saying anything.
Then Harmony came out her door, and wrapped her arm around my shoulder, "Oh look at you, all grown up and pretty for tonight. You better be careful, wouldn't want you to get hurt, now would we?" I glared up at her, and she walked away laughing. I then walked down the stairs, next to Cissy. When we got to the bottom of the stairs, I took Draco's arm, and we all apparated to the ball.
The man waiting smiled at us, then pointed his wand to his throat, "Now presenting," came out in a loud voice, "Mr. Lucius Malfoy, Mrs. Narcissa Malfoy, Mr. Draco Malfoy, Miss Vespera Salazar-Malfoy, Miss Harmony Phantomhive, Miss Jaelah Phantomhive." Everyone looked up at us, but once we hit the third step, everyone went back to mingling.
"I don't understand Draco, what's the point of announcing us, if no one is going to watch us descend the stairs? I mean, we might as well just show up, and the people who care will find us anyways." I whispered all of this to Draco, trying not to be disrespectful.
"Its old traditions Vespera, an old blood kind of thing. I don't question it." He shook his head at me, as we got to the bottom of the stairs.
"Draco, it's so nice to see you! And you Vespera, you're officially a Malfoy now, isn't it just lovely. Jaelah!" Jaelah glared at Pansy, then walked away, talking to Harmony. "Since when were they best friends again?"
I rolled my eyes, "I made Harmony mad at me when she first arrived. I believe it was somewhere along the lines of calling her a spoiled brat. Jaelah has hated all Slytherins ever since that one day in the dorm. I've just gotten used to it at this point."
Pansy nodded, "They'll both get over it, and you're just too nice not to love. Come on Draco, let's find somewhere to chat at." She pointed at me, "You're not allowed to come. I have secret things to discuss here." Then, she dragged Draco away with her.
I shrugged, and wandered around to find another kid to talk to, the adults were all talk about politics. I finally gave up, and just went to stand next to Cissy. "Vespera, why aren't you with Draco?"
"Pansy stole him saying she had important secret things to discuss with him, and they ran off, and Jaelah still isn't talking to me, so I came to you instead of just wandering around alone."
She took my hand, "Come along then, we'll find you some company so you don't have to listen to us old people talk."
"You're not old, you're still so young. You just happen to be a bit older than I am." I smiled at her, and she chuckled at me, as we reached a table with Pansy, Draco, and Jaelah all leaning really close to each other.
"Draco, I hope your plotting is over, because you three are the only young ones here at the moment, and you really should keep Vespera Company. Plus, I don't trust you three together at Christmas." She pulled my hand in from of her, and I let go, sitting next to Pansy, across from Draco. "Behave. All of you Slytherins." Then she smiled and walked away.
"Am I allowed to know what you were planning?" I asked the trio of trouble makers.
They shook their heads, "Top secret Vespera. You'll figure it out when we get back to school." Pansy answered me.
I shrugged, then pulled out a tiny package from my pocket, that was hidden inside of my dress, and handed it to Pansy, "Merry Christmas Pansy. I didn't want to owl it, since I knew I'd see you today anyways."
"Thanks Vespera! I'll open it tomorrow." Pansy smiled at me, then stuck the package inside of her bag.
Jaelah held out her hand, "What about my present Vespera?"
I laughed, "You're living in the same house as me, and haven't spoken to me the entire break. You have to wait until tomorrow for all the other presents to be opened before I'm nice enough to think about giving you your present Jaelah."
She glared at me and stuck her tongue out, "Meanie." When she said that, the plates of food appeared on the table, "Don't drink anything Vespera, Harmony has done something to the drink, and has been plotting it for a while. Not everyone's drink, just yours."
I sighed, "Thanks Jaelah. I GUESS that you can open your present tomorrow morning." I smiled at her, and was thankful that our friendship wasn't completely ruined.
I was also thankful that the entire night went fairly well, and no one had been injured.
So I don't own "Do you want to build a snowman?" Which was mentioned in this chapter. Christmas day itself should be in the next chapter!
I think, so you guys won't be tortured much longer, waiting for me to post, that I'll post Christmas, her going back to school, and then the final chapters that are already written.
Reviews make me post quicker. Usually.
