Chapter 11: Ears

Am I dead? Lena slowly opened her eyes and groaned slightly. Why does my head hurt so badly? Her vision was slightly blurry and all she could hear was an annoying screech in her ear. Lena saw that she was buried under rock and cement; she couldn't see a thing through the rubble. Lena tried to push away the rocks at her feet, but failed only to make her head hurt more and her muscles weaker. Am I going to die here? Lena closed her eyes and tried to sleep. How long has it been? Was it worth it to blow up the building? What was that dream about? Why was it so dark? Why am I so hungry? What did I even have for breakfast? Where is Leonardo? Lena's eyes quickly opened at the thought of Leo; he had been with her when the building crumbled. Was he mad at me? Is he looking for me? Where is he? Lena finally brought up strength to yell out. When she opened her mouth, nothing came out. Her throat was scratchy and dry.

She brought up the strength to lift the little rocks that pinned her arms down. She rolled her shoulders and cracked her elbows. She saw her jacket she wore out to the building was ripped in some places and were showing dried up blood. Lena began to push some of the rocks away from her feet. As she lifted herself onto her knees, she pushed the cement block that was on top of her. Unfortunately, she didn't have enough strength to lift it. Lena sighed and rubbed her arms. It was so cold; she could swear she saw snowflakes in the air

Lena began to lose hope as time passed by. She thought she had been laying there for hours. Lena stretched and shifted herself among the rocks. She finally got all of the feeling back into her legs and arms. As she lay back down, Lena saw something sparkle. She squinted at the light and moved towards it. She could see a lamp post though a little hole. Lena yelped and scrambled to the opening. The rocks around the hole were loose when she scratched at it. They fell around her as she poked her hand out of the hole. It was cool outside and from what she could see, it was night time. As Lena pushed away the rocks frantically, she was able to stick her entire arm through. Just a little bit longer, she thought.

Lena heard a crash and the rocks infront of her tumbled forward making the opening large enough for her to get out. She frantically scrambled through the opening and lay down on the cement. Lena breathed out a shaky laugh as she watched the rock she was buried under collapse, sending out a cloud of dust. Her laughter got louder and louder until she inhaled some of the dust and started to cough.

Lena sat on her knees as her laughter subsided. She slowly got to her feet holding onto the lamp post for support. Her vision got blurry as she let go of the pole. She grasped the pole for her life as she took another small step. She let go of the lamp post when her wooziness in her head subsided. Lena felt unbearable pain everywhere on her body, plus she really had to pee. She ignored her needs and wandered around the building she clew up for evidence of her parents.

Unfortunately, everything around her was ether burnt or broken. Thought, she did find her Yumi and Ya still in one piece, but not her arrows. Lena slung her bow around her chest and continued her way back to the turtles' lair. She didn't even know if they thought she was dead or not. Actually, she didn't even know how long she was out for. Continuing her search for the turtles, she encountered one of Leo's katanas, but it was bent so badly it was unusable.

Lena felt a chill in the air as she crossed her arms for warmth. She turned and left Leo's weapon where it was. She kept walking down the abandoned street shivering at the thought of the Kraang. They did this, she thought, it's their fault. I can't even find my parents, she continued, I bet they are hiding them. As she stomped down the street, Lena stepped in a deep puddle and got her left pant leg wet. She grumbled and started shaking the water off.

"Lena?" an innocent voice called from in front of her. She looked up quickly and started pulling out her weapon. Len reached for an arrow, but she only grabbed air. Shit.

"Lena?" the voice called out again, but from one of the roofs. Lena tried to answer, but all the came out was a croak and a fit of coughs. She felt a breeze behind her as her coughing fit subsided. Lena turned slowly to reveal the youngest of the turtles' brothers behind her. Lena cried and hugged Mikey that found her. She felt Mikey's hands wrap around her hesitantly but soon gripped her tightly.

"Lena, where were you!" Mikey's voice was full of concern as he continued to hug her as if he would never let go.

"Under some rubble. How long was I gone?"

"A week," Mikey's voice cracked as he began to pull back.

"What happened? Leo won't tell us anyth-" Mikey stopped and started at Lena. She noticed that he looked at her as if she was an alien.

"What's wrong?" Lena's voice cracked as she burst into another fit of coughs. She saw Mikey's eyes widen as he backed away from her.

"How-" Mikey stared at Lena uneasily and reached towards her head. Lena thought he was going to ruffle her hair and crack a joke like he was acting this entire time. But she felt him stroke her ear, but it wasn't like a human's ear. Lena felt him put her ear down on top of her head as she reached up for it.

It was fuzzy on the outside and warm like skin on the other side. It felt like, a rabbit ear. Lena looked down at the puddle beneath her and shrieked. Her face and body was covered in fur. She had ears like a rabbit and a muzzle too. She had a brown spot on her eye and a pink nose.

Lena began to hyperventilate as she walked away from the puddle. She tripped on a twig and fell on her butt. She held her face in her hand as she began to cry. She was her dream. She was a rabbit. She was a mutant.
