Chapter 6:

Light rolled into the tinted window shortly with the shimmer of light spheres that continuously flickered.

Kyo stirred, opening a jaded eye as he scanned around. It was quiet. And apparently in the middle of nowhere. The car, still in motion, pulled to an abrupt stop which forced him to grab the near armrest.

"We've arrived"

Crazy old man.

The driver shuffled out, slowly reaching towards the handle until Kyo rushed out. Taking the average suitcase from the trunk and mumbling a quick 'thank you'. Now staring directly at the front metallic gates he took the moment to admire the craftsmanship then paced past, to leave the now bewildered driver.

"So much for meeting at the bridge."

He rummaged through his pockets glancing at the note, 'bridge', where exactly was that damned cross walk! He had been walking for half an hour and had yet to come across any buildings.

"Kyonkichi!~"

Suddenly he felt a chill in the air, taking to the looming forest he ran. Stopping to rest near a large Pine. Ahead laid a lake. Kyo gasped. The lake brimmed with a translucence, was that ice? It was true that it the wind had picked up but never enough to physically affect the area. Not yet at least.

Kyo sighed. It was nice he reluctantly admitted, maybe, just maybe he could learn to like the school.

"As long as though damn vampires don't cause any trouble." His lukewarm digits combed his orange strands.

"Trouble? What ever do you mean?"

For a second time that day Kyo felt a chill. "Hmph!" Groaning he felt himself being pulled into a bear hug. The arms encircled him tighter.

"Kyonkichi! What a pleasant surprise! I looked everywhere when the driver told me you ran off, after all your speciality never was direction. If you missed papa that much you should have said so!" The man demonstrated rotating the hunter in circles.

"You...damn dog! I'm not your son!" Kyo, eyes blazed, brought a free arm down crashing it above the other.

Thunk.

"Ouch! Kyonkichi how could you do that to your father!" The said other whinnied cradling the back of his head. The said dog feigned hurt his face holding a teary pout. He dusted his already clean ensemble which depicted an evergreen kimono. His cropped dark hair was tied in a white ribbon, a few strands sloppily sticking out.

"Fine. If that's how you want to be I won't show you the way to our home." The elder held his facade through pouting. Waiting for a form of repentance that would never come.

Kyo grit his teeth. Sharp grinding heard. "Shig-... Papa. Would you please lead the way."

A sly expression stamped onto the elder's face. Kyo hid under his overgrown bangs. Heat spread across his face.

"Of course! Why didn't you just say so!"

Kyo growled under his breath allowing the dog to drag him towards the cobblestone road. One day he would get that dog.

"So Kyo, what have you've been up too?"

Kyo tilted his head to the side leaning on nearby bench, he had expected a mess of an office but was awestruck with the decor. Now he was impressed. A furnished office- full of who knows where antiquity- plush arm chairs, polished tables, and an oriental rug that felt incredibly soft. Not bad, for Shigure, not bad at all. Warm light descended from the chandelier shaping the two figures.

"Not much. I'm working with the association completing assignments. You know, then and there." He demonstrated shrugging his shoulders. Not taking his eyes from the ceiling.

"Hmm. Well to get you informed you'll be attending school here. You know homework, other kids, classes, conveniently placed for the benefits of the students." Shigure wiggled his brows at this. Kyo rolled his eyes.

"And the vampires." Kyo responded.

Shigure crossed his hands together resting his arms on the wide rosewood desk. His face hardened.

"This school is a place where both humans and vampires can coexist. I wanted to create an environment for both beings. I did. Don't misunderstand, there are rules I created for both groups in order to protect the students."

It took all of Kyo's self control to not break any furniture, for that matter attack the dog, he waved a hand.

"And."

"Human students are placed in the Day Class. Each have their separate classes. Their rooms are located across the lake near our quarters. The other group, the Night Class have their own residence and take classes at night."

"So. What's the catch?" Shigure stared at Kyo anxiously.

"The school is shared, because the school lies at the center of the campus they take turns and are escorted to and from the building. The students all have a curfew. This also applies to the vampires." Shigure leaned back into the large wing chair.

"The drinking of blood is strictly forbidden. The Night Class president has other regulations set up as well." Shigure then began to fidget with nimble fingers.

"Well...Ineedyoutobeaguardian." Flusteredly, Shigure hid behind the chair, knowing well that his son's reaction would not be good. The air now held a thickness that could only be described as delicate. Kyo turned, ever so slowly, a dark glint in his eyes. Shigure gulped.

"A what?"

"W-well, like I said the students need an escort every transition...so we designate students to fill the role. They're called guardians.."

"So?"

"That's where you come in. Guardians have a specific role. They are the only students, other than the night class, who know the existence of vampires. I'm assuming by now you can see their purpose is to protect the students. I currently have one student and need an-"

Kyo's red eyes widened. Shigure had gone mad! Not only did he want him to serve regular students but vampire students. Blood suckers! I'll be damned! He thought.

The door swung almost instantaneously as Kyo had moved closer to the dog, nearly as quickly shaking the chandelier.

"Chairman! Hey Chairman! Did the new guar-... I mean student come in yet!?"

"Kagura! What a delightful surprise? Did you finish your patrol?" He gestured comically to a stack of papers warningly.

"P-papa please don't be that way.." The trembling girl stood beside the said chairman, compared to the wing chair she was five inches shorter. She was fit with a black school uniform, strange with its white stripes and button-up shirt. Was that a...ribbon? That perverted dog. Kyo thought. Her shoulder length brown hair falling to the side.

"Oh, that's right! Kyo, this is Kagura Tenpouin, don't be fooled by her cuteness she's actually very strong! She'll be your partner." Shigure exclaimed chuckling at Kyo's stunned expression.

"Don't worry about a thing Kyo, Kagura will explain the rest." He took a big yawn frowning slightly. He pushed a sleeve up focusing on the watch. Moving to twirl at the spot.

"Its getting late, sorry Kyo I lost track of time. Your room is upstairs down the hall. Kagura's room is a few doors across but if you have any questions my room is on this floor and Kagura will help you." He stopped to stifle a yawn.

"Your uniform is on your bed as well as your schedule and guardian band."

"Wait but-"

"Tomorrow~ I need my beauty sleep!"

Kyo glared menacingly at the dog who scurried to the door. His raised hand raked in the air transforming into a crushing fist. Kagura fidgeted her eyes raw on the ground as she fiddled with the hem of her skirt.

"Kyo, I know this is all new but if you need a shoulder...I hope to work with you!" The doed eyed girl bowed. "Come on!" Kagura exclaimed grabbing a tan wrist hauling him away.

He wordlessly managed to stray away from her self acclaimed 'tour' and found his room. Locking it he paused to look at the moon hung high. His room was fairly decent. It even included it's own bathroom. Kyo flopped himself on the mattress and glanced on the uniform.

Kyo felt his hand twitch, draping an arm over, he found himself gazing at an unfamiliar ceiling. Shuffling to place a silver pistol on the night stand.

Cross Academy. It's been awhile since i've had to say this but, I really don't want to go to school tomorrow.
